RB head to Kitwe to commission Urban Roads Rehabilitation Programme

President Rupiah Banda is welcomed by Kapiri Mposhi residents
President Rupiah Banda

President Rupiah Banda is today expected in Kitwe to commission a new Urban Roads Rehabilitation Programme which will cost about K1 trillion and officiate at a groundbreaking ceremony for a new $690 million copper and cobalt mine in Kalulushi.

More than 500 kilometres of road will be rehabilitated in Lusaka, Kafue, Kapiri Mposhi, Kabwe and the Copperbelt province.

President Banda notes that while Government through the Road Development Agency has embarked on major rehabilitation and upgrade of main and trunk roads countrywide, urban roads have so far not received the same urgent attention due to limited funding.

The President says he expects the programme road rehabilitation to alleviate hardships faced by road users owing to the poor state of the roads.

And President Banda says the new Ichimpe Mine which will be developed by Zhonghui Mining Group of China will be Kalulushi’s second mine.

He says the construction stage alone is expected to create 1700 jobs.

Mr Banda explains that the mine’s ore body forms part of the Mindolo ore body but could not be developed much earlier as it was seen to be uneconomical.

He since noted that that Chinese investment in Zambia continues to grow particularly in the mining industry.

President Banda will during his visit to the copperbelt take time to attend the funeral service of bus passengers who died when a minibus plunged into Kafubu stream in Ndola last weekend.

This contained in a statement released to QFM by the President’s special assistant for press and public relations Dickson Jere.

  1. Iwe mudala, 90 days to leave office, that’s when you are starting your own projects! I think you have been reading the PF manifesto- keep it up! However, please don’t give this project to the Chinese or your son, twapapata!

  2. Owe, sorry! I didnt know you have already given your friends ??????? the business! Leave some for us for God’s sake!

  3. Where was he all this time? just becoz its an election year and you think you will win in CB, ubepelefye. People are tired and you will see it ba tata ba RB. Worse more the works will be given to chinese pocket investors who will do ******* work and the next rain season the roads will become worse than they are. e.g Kafulafuta – Luashya road. MMD kuya bebele. VIVA opposition.

  4. Fantastic news. Whether election year or not, development must continue. This is great news Mr. President. Infrastructure development is important for the nation.

    Good News.

  5. RB, after you are done on the Copperbelt please come and commission the construction of my toilet

  6. Rupiah says urban roads havent been attended to due to limited funding, but last time he lied that it’s because PF MPs are not working.Liars must have good memories. The 1700 casual and donky jobs without windfall tax are not what Zambians need. This campaign gimmick will not work, copperbelt people are already decided about changing the government.
VOTE MICHAEL SATA FOR MEANINGFUL DEVELOPMENT.
BEWARE OF SMALL TRIBAL PARTIES WHICH SPLIT VOTES.
    PABWATOO MWAMUKOLOOOO PF COME 2011.

  7. I just wonder how many city projects RB would commission if he was a president in one of the western european countries!!!! thousands of Malls, Residential Flats, Bus and train stations, etc!

  8. A piece of Advice to MMD. No matter what you do in terms of campaigns on the copperbelt, people have arleady decided. Its change!!!!! I hope the OP guys are advising you correctly. Dora and Chanda Chimba’s programme has actually decampaigned the MMD. Its painfull to watch ZNBC. And for your information, the pact may not be dead entirely. Dont be surprised and wactch the space. People are geared for change at any cost. Twenty(20) years is too much and poverty has gone up. Kuya bebele!!!!!!

    • Kwendo Munjila has literally hijacked the tasks of Ministers.A great planner, otherwise called Master Mind, simply sits on his study table and design plans. He knows who to send to effectively and efficiently implement. Our dear Alaa Bee doesnt seem to be such a planner!!!!

  9. “Dora Siliya had a meeting with teachers and some heads of government departments at Mpika Boys Secondary School. And we are told that in one meeting she started saying that ‘if the Catholic priests want they can leave the Church and join politics so that they have money to start looking after the children they have produced’” Fr Besa said. “This is an insult to us as priests and as a human being teti utemwe umuntu ukulantuka mumusango uyo.
FR BESA YOU TALK AS IF THERE IS NO PRIEST WHO HAS A CHILD. WE KNOW THEY HAVE AND DORA IS PROBABLY CORRECT

    • If you have done any statistics or just simple math, read the numbers. 100% thumbs down. If it was at a public rally, people would boo you. You must be a very sad person seeing how people think about your thought process. Sometimes it is noble to stay quiet.

  10. i would love to see roads tarred on the copperbelt . its really a shame that the money hub for the country looks just like kapiri. something is wrong somewhere.i just hope the resources that are being usd to develop those roads are not borrowed beacuse CB can finance its own roads through its natural resources. so its not a big deal if u think about it

  11. OOhhhpps!!! ceremonial president, all the time commissioning this and that infant project. By the where has the money suddenly come from mr president????

  12. Great news! Yesterday H.E.R.B you delivered yet another bumper harvest, today you are delivering infrastructure development. You will be getting an ‘x’ nafuti from me.

  13. RB HEAD TO KITWE OR HEADS. Surely LT Editors. Nangu Tuli Ba bemba te fyo. pay attention Pleaseee.

  14. the only problem is that, the so called commissioning of roads is coming in an election year where was he and suddenly money has been sourced. surely one would say it’s a campaign gimmick.

  15. The mmd are saying and I quote: What can Mr. Sata do to develope this country when he failed to do anything when he served in all the past governments? My question is, before Mr.Banda became president, what did he do to develope this country? The answer is very simple, give Sata a chance at plot one and he will do many more things, just as Mr. banda is now warming up to do!

  16. But Zona ba LT, who writes these stories for you, it is not ”RB head to Kitwe to commission Urban Roads Rehabilitation Programme” but rather RB HEADS TO KITWE TO COMMISSION URBAN ROADS REHABILITATION PROGRAMME. Nice to know that Zambians are getting wise by the day and can see through this cheap propaganda by the MMD and even LT which seems to bend on their side on most issues. This year is indeed the year of change come rain come sunshine.Lets vote wisely for development which will last and not what we are being told through these media.Big up to you # 8, i will try and push it so that it can be put in the programme for RB be for this Year’s Election date……

  17. Copperbelt is already decided bwana, we all know why roads were not done and why they are being done now. After all we deserve better services whether with or without RB. For now, the writings on the wall are very clear. We ahve endured the heat and now it has been transfered to plot 1. Waloba ilyauma, ala ukala pitafye apakaba.

    • Walasa mudala # 27. Point. Teti batubepe bambala. We know why CB roads where not done n being done now. They where saying its the PF Councils mismanaging funds. CB was being punished for giving PF votes. Twalimishiba bamambala, kuya bebele.

  18. The man knows he has never done any project as he was just finishing off what LPM untimely left. He was busy looking for dubious deals for his sons to get commissions. Watch my word, some scandals will come out of these haste of commissioning after commissioning! As far as I am concerned, I have already made up my mind to ditch MMD, so all that is happening for the sake of elections has no impact over my decision as I am aware that once the tendam of these win this years tripartite elections, they will be unstoppable at the game of PLUNDER!

  19. Mr Banda, how about the permanent secretary in the ministry of works and supply commissioning those (hypothetical) projects and save us some money please? shikulu uyu alimpesha amano ine, commisioning every little projects (even a privately owned restaurant – in Chipata) – no vision bashikulu aba zoona.

  20. @Div Nafuti.

ZAMBIA has secured a concessional loan of US$ 1 billion from the government of China for investment in development projects in hydro power, housing, road infrastructure and other sectors.

Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Felix Mutati said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday, in addition to the US$ 1 billion, the government of China agreed to give Zambia a grant of US$10 million for use of whatever purpose needed for the completion of the Ndola stadium.

  21. This year is so hot for MMD! They know that Zambians can not be hoodwinked by the building of more schools and hospitals which will not have adequate staff. As much as we appreciate such development but we know that the timing has to do with wooing CB voters. We have been crying for rehabilitation of our roads for a long time. It is a little too late.

  22. LOL….Awwwww…..PF cadres are butt hurt that The RB administration is delivering development.

Yesterday, there was news of yet another unprecedented bumper harvest, today there is news of further infrastructure development….are you mad PF cadres???….lol…awww.

  25. R.b next just bring that herbalist man curing peope in Tanzania to come and cure all da children
with hiv.i here he is making wounders and more and more people are flocking to his village.who
knows you may just have a landslide victory.for yr visit afroditeworld.com

  26. ELCTIONS ARE A NICE THING. NOW RB HAS WAKEN UP TO THE REALIZATION THAT ZAMBIANS ARE GOING TO ASSESS HIS PERFORMANCE. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS KIND OF MAKE SHIFT PANIC DEVELOPMENT EFFORT IS THAT PEOPLE CAN SEE THROUGH IT. AND IN HIS USUAL ATTEMPT TO APPEASE PEOPLE THAT HE IS DELIVERING DEVELOPMENT HE SHOULD GO TO COMISSION COMMENCEMENT OF REHABILITATION. WHY NOT JUST GO TO COMMISSION WHEN IT IS COMPLETE?

  27. I hope these are not roads with political designs like chiwala road in kitwe where the road was rehabilitated not to the standard design but rather to smear butter on peoples faces and to win peoples favour. Such roads only last for 4 months and they give in like Chiwala which I use regulary. I wish these projects could commence just when the head of state takes office. I personally feel betrayed and mocked. We must see consistency in delivery of services

  28. I hope the electorates know th tricks and can reason appropriately. Please, kick these f….l out this year. They have plundered NAPSA, they wine and dine with criminals because they are themselves criminals, they have no direction what so ever. Use any trick, you are out this year. The only sad thing is some of your rotten friends are joining the opposition creating yet another cycle of recycled diarhoral stinking leadership. Shame

  29. Is this just another case of witch-hunt or does Zambia need this change that everyone is talking about. I fear that all these negative vibes about the government will even convince the President that himself that he is doing wrong and his cabinet and ministers will then be all over the place, God forbid. I hope these guys in govt can stand firm against all adversity. Guy carry on governing as if no one is saying anything.

  30. Late or not late its all development.RB has only been in government for two years & achieved a lot.I know in five years time he will do exceedingly better. For your own information will only hold elections on the 27th December 2011.Then 2nd january 2012 RB will sworn in.There after more development.

  31. Inside of two weeks this 74 years old man as in Turkey, Chipata and now Copperbelt. Honstly, when does he ever have time to preside over his cabinet? Maybe one former premier’s ghost is still haunting State House and Kakulu Munshila has to stay away from there as often as possible lest the ghost breaks his hand like it did someone we all know..

  32. yes you pipo who do not vote can do your verbal diarrhoea but the real voters on the ground will benefit greatly from this major road rehab and we do not need spectacles to see the good RB is doing. we are the voters and we will vote for development we will not be cheated by bums who make fake and hopeless promises. prophets of doom are doomed forever while MMD continues to rule. akalijo will choke you ba PF ama jealousy cheew cheew cheew cheww

  33. Great news GRZ….  a country moving towards development…
Roads on the copperbelt were last done in 1982. Well done my man we need more of this…

  34. shame imwe fipuba RB is doing a good job you can not appreciate.Whether you like it or not RB is winning this year.We dont want Satanism and Homoxuality in zambia

  35. Well. each and everybody above have expressed their views. I believe the majority are not in Zambia and may not vote. But for some of us who have seen what is happening and appreciate the many changes that have taken place and being wise enough not to be hoodwinked by the Post and other prophets of doom, will vote wisely not for pies in the air. “Ba tasha echo wamona”. “A bird in hand is worth two in the bush” so the old sayings go. “The devil you know is better than the angel you do not know”. My goodness this world is full of sayings the warn us of certain situations but we do not have ears hear.

  36. Its mopani working on central st, mindolo and chibulumba rds, CB its Donchi kubeba, minds are already set.!

  37. rubbish.. This is just politicking like all other announcements, I’ll only listen ahen i see equipment on site everywhere.. there’s no point in debating or discussing your empty plans on paper. We know there no such money sitting anywhere, except for NAPSA who seem to have a lot of loot to waste).. besides such projects take y

  38. I understand the Zambian Diaspora Business Group (Zambiadiaspora.com) is to make a subtantial investment in Zambia. This can only be good. This is entirely made of ordinary Zambians prepared to make a change. Not like some people only good at spouting from the roof tops.

  39. How i wish they could work on the road leading towards Kamwala South before the on set of the rains. Because i know immediately after the elections all these rehabilitation programmes will come to a stand still until in 2016 again. Pliz ba RDA bikeniko amano kuli uyu umusebo wa ku kamwala south. Mwi pelela pa ma robot. Mutwalilile m’kwai until kwa Jeke.

  40. RB HAS DONE WELL IN 2 YRS. ONE CAN BE TEMPTED TO GIVE HIM A FULL TERM THIS YR. HE WAS NEVER IN THE MMD WEN IT WAS DISAPOITNING FRM 1991 TO THE TIME LPM TOOK OVER AS PRESDO. SATA TO ME PROVED DIABOLICAL IN ADMINISTRATION BUT HARD WORKER IN IMPLEMENTATION. HE IS ONE PESON WHO DOES NOT WANT CHALLENGE LIKE RUPIAH ALSO SHOWED RECENTLY…SOMEHOW. THESE CHAPS ARE JUST BUT THE SAME. SATA WUD BE EVEN WORSE AS PRESDO ESP THAT ALL THE MMD CHAPS ARE RE-GROUPING AROUND HIM. NO SWEET CHANGE EXPECTED. RB LUKS LIKE HE WANTS TO DEVELP THE COUNTRY BUT ABIT TOO FAST IN BID TO IMPRESS. HE IS NOT BAD SO FAR. GOOD JOB RB. STILL ASSESSING ALL.

  41. lady gaga ulichipuba sana, this old chimudala has just brought harm to Zambians and this time he is going back to the farm

  42. This over a billion dollar concession loan from Chian will put us into deep debt entrapment. The Catholic Church helped Zambia through now Cardinal Merdado Mazombwe with Jubilee Zambia, but with this hatred for the Catholics, who is going to help the debt trap RB is putting us in? He was even given US$10m as mbasela, honestly Zambians, is this the type of leadership we want? RDA also got a loan of over US$700m for roadworks, and yet we have enough sources of money from where these amounts could have come from, like the windfall tax.

We are busy smiling when someone due to his selfishness is busy taking us deep into debts, and China using our money they are getting from our copper and other natural resources to push us into debts. My heart bleeds.

  43. The job of a Zambian presido indeed!!!, commissioning road repair, my foot !! that kind of work is routine maintainance work done by manuncipalities every year following the winter season in this part of the world, this would be pararell to each manuncipal council in Zambia having a yearly programme to repair and build roads after each rain season! if we have no capacity tot hink and plan for our own development, at least we can copy what others do!! it is so annoying, the roads are left to get so bad before any one starts thinking of repairing.

  44. Continue building the roads because after the elections they are the ones you’ll be using when going from prison to prison, hospital to hospital and finally kumbo takuyababwela.Donchi kubambila basa

  45. Apart from the projects that LPM started, how many projects have been done by RB? How many projects have been promised to electorates in all the areas that have had by elections? How many so far fulfilled? Zero, Zip, Nada, Ilini lyakwa namungwa. So, cadres, get excited and you will be disappointed. How many projects have been mentioned in the last 3 months? Over a hundred. How many have been commissioned? Over a hundred. How many so far do even have foundations or they have moved earth moving equipments to those locations? Zero, Zip, Nada.

Banda went to Chifubu Reformed Church. Did he reform himself? This guy is the waste joke God put on this earth. Even his own nephews, the KK’s sons have decided to throw him under the bus. Sorry, MMD cadres, but your leader is in trouble.

  46. Silence is the sign of wisdom some pipo shows their ingnorance by what say how long has) being president for PF member it looks he has done more than 5yrs its not fair if someone a good thing let’s thank them he is doing roads it good whoever come will not do these roads but something else stop PHDs zambian we a country without heros

  47. Had it been news that mwanawasa was coming I wud undstand coz he has rested in peace n maybe just resurected but iwe chi banda u never died but why come fix roads now.ur going .dnt fx any road

  48. DONCHI KUBEBA and NATIONAL MIRROR you are useless. I hope you dont do the same to your fathers. Any way RB is better than your fathers. Your language in public media is bad.

  49. Ama roads yena baesha ba bwana banda. You see, because of my program on ZNBC, the main is standing up for Zambia. Nut I think the man is tired of thinking so a vote for him is a waste of time. This plan won’t work for doing roads. Naba SATA bawameko mwe. MMD Kuya bebele. Kwendo on the same road you are making.

  50. I was in Kitwe last week, which roads was RB commissioning, I passed through the Chibuluma Road its in such a mess, I was worried that I might not make it to Chimwemwe, I passed thru Chimwemwe its impassable, passed thru parklands I was disgusted, the people of Zambia are being cheated? I wanted to stay longer in Kitwe, I had to drive back to Ndola.

  51. I’ve read some just right stuff here. Definitely price bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how so much effort you put to make any such fantastic informative site.
