Musokotwane cautions Zambians over PF

Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane has warned Zambians that they would grapple with huge supplementary budgets if they voted for opposition parties such as Patriotic Front (PF) that had promised to give cash to the people and undertake development projects within 90 days.

Dr. Musokotwane said such parties would leave chaos in the country because they would mismanage the economy and cause high levels of poverty since there was no example of a place where such promises had been fulfilled anywhere in the world.

The minister said this in Parliament on Tuesday evening after Kabwata PF Member of Parliament (MP) Given Lubinda submitted that the K1.4 trillion supplementary budget the Government was asking for showed lack of control and was contrary to the promise the Government made in 2003 not to overspend by more than two per cent of the budget.

This was when the House debated the Supplementary Appropriation Bill for 2009.

Mr. Lubinda said the K1.4 trillion represented about eight per cent of the national Budget and called on the minister to assemble measures that would curb over-expenditure by permanent secretaries.

But Dr Musokotwane said Mr Lubinda debated from a point of ignorance because the supplementary budget resulted from the global economic crisis when the buying power of the Zambian people went down and affected the taxation system because of uncertainty about their jobs.

The minister said as such, the Government had to spend more to cushion the impact of the crisis and also protect Zambians from losing their jobs.

He also told the House that the lack of controls had resulted from the failure by the opposition MPs to support the Constitution Amendment Bill that sought to implement the draft Constitution where progressive provisions on controlling budgets were contained.

Dr. Musokotwane said instead of supporting the progressive law, the opposition MPs from the PF walked out of the House and wondered why they were not steadfast on national matters.

[pullquote]He also told the House that the lack of controls had resulted from the failure by the opposition MPs to support the Constitution Amendment Bill that sought to implement the draft Constitution where progressive provisions on controlling budgets were contained[/pullquote]

He challenged Mr Lubinda to ask if he did not understand matters and also explained that the United States of America, China and other developed countries spent more to stem losses of economic activity.

Dr. Musokotwane told the House that economics were not just about figures on how one spent more but were about explaining contexts which Mr Lubinda failed to do when he accused Government of overspending.

Bweengwa MP Highvie Hamududu urged the Government to provide a ceiling of supplementary expenditure beyond which controlling officers should not exceed.

And Foreign Affairs Minister Kabinga Pande said the Government was in the process of training officials working at Zambian missions abroad to improve their skills in promoting the country’s economic and political interests internationally.

Mr. Pande said the embassies had a lot of work for Zambia, resulting in the Zambia Development Agency approving US$2.4 billion by September last year and $7.6 billion from the Asian market between 2007 and 2010.

  1. Never believe in Sata’s 90 day economic miracles, it has never happened anywhere in the world. This man just talks too much, it takes years to develop a country.
Sata’s thinking that he can develop Zambia in 3 months is also a clear indication of his ignorance and lack of knowledge on basic economics.

    • mashimba you are just as ignorant as the minister. it really shows that u do not know why zambia is poor and what we should do change things. Zambia has the potential to be the best country in the world if we only had good leaders. otherwise we have everything.

  2. Here we goo….!!! PF….Too much ignorance from PF…….!!!!! Even SATA siad, he wants credible memmbers of parliament now….not these rubish MP including SATA himself…

  3. Musokotwane is confusing himself. Injecting money in the economy to stimulate growth is not the same as overspending on fancy and electioneering projects. So lubinda is right. Uncontrolled expenditure such as RB is doing is what will leave us bunkraft.

    • =))LUBINDA is right.government need to be spending money on tangible projects that will inturn creat jobs.we don t want to be cought in a debt trap again.hand to mouth kind of borrowing is long gone.So musokotwane must also prove his intelligence by caming up with better policies that will resustate our fragile n polous economy.he must not reduce his calibre to that of a cadre,he shouldnt just be releasing unguarded n uneconomical statements. So MMD shoud stat parking their KA-TUUNDU-n pave way for PF.Viva MWA-MUKOOLO.SATA 4life**==

  4. The only reason will vote for sata is to see RB and friends arrested. Good Year for defence lawyers.

  5. Supplemental budgets are far much better than the chaotic and haphazard way bwezani and his cronies are current misusing money without proper disclosure of sources.

  6. We want Situmbeko Musokotwane and the rest to be sent to prison! That is why we are voting for Sata. He will come with guns blazing and that is why you are running scared!

  7. Economics is not about creating paper tigers its interpreting real activities and their results to benefit people. We all aware even if Sata became a President he woould not achieve anything within 90 days the period is too short. There are many factors to take into consideration. It will be like when you take possession of a furnished house you look around at the furniture arrangement etc and you came up with your arrangement. In short the changes that Sata promises to effect within 90 days will be job distribution to cadres, relatives and friends. There are procedures to follow. Zambians can longer be atken for granted.Even if HH made he cant effect changes and expect results within 90 days. The gestation period is too short. This is as bad project as giving out free geysers to residents

  8. Ofcourse he will say that, because he is enjoying his time in the office. This man is a desperate man, who has both african names I cant even pronounce them properly. I know a lot of people claim to be Doctors when they are not, and I would not be surprised If this man falls in that category. Ignore this man, go out there and vote with your heart.
The country is corrupt, deceipt, greed and desperations are the order of the day. Learn to be cautious of any man in the current regime that whispers anything. Campaign for someone who will change the landscape of the country, someone who will bring back the British to take over the offices and governments, someone who will ensure that when a man hits a woman they go to prison, jail thieves, legalise homosexuality, and educate the poor Thks

    • you DEVIL,musokotwane is more and far much better than you in your life and academic papers,IS MUSHOTA an english name, take your evil thots to the devil the one you dinner with

  9. Empty tins make the loudest noise, so the saying goes. Some people always have something to say about anything. This tells you the calibre of people who want to form government. Change should always be for the better. Vote wisely!

  10. He challenged Mr Lubinda to ask if he did not understand matters,

Dr. Musokotwane told the House that economics were not just about figures on how one spent more but were about explaining contexts which Mr Lubinda failed to do when he accused Government of overspending….I wonder what PF is made of,this man is well educated am proud of this fellow lozi,iv heard his debates in parliament, always with reference in attacking this midiocre party(PF),let lubinda not follow these thugs in PF he will end look as if he is dull when not, thats why we have given zambians to give chance to someone who is skillfull enough to run this crippled economy, vote HHHHH 20HH

  11. @# 9
could you hear your own voice Mushota.
Zambia is a sovereign country and its population is mature enough to run its own affairs. If you worship the British, support sex marriages, and believe in 90 days miracle, not everyone is blind to such fantasies. Please save us your insinuations and unrealistic imaginery policies.

    Thank you Dr Musokotwane.

  12. #9 Mushota

I think I somehow like Mushota’s off the wall comments. So unpredictable and independent and fresh from the usual expected comments from the usual trained minds that think in an expected way. I think she is truly free , liberated and creative and fears no one and just expresses herself. And that is a mark of a truly creative person with leadership quality able to challenge the established norms without fear of  being hacked down.

    Keep it up lady.

I think Sata will legalize homosexuality. I just don’t know if he will send his chief financier Madumbo Maliketi Kapompa Saladi (GMB) to jail if he hits his wife. That will be asking too much in a single candidate.

  13. #9,Mushota you are very shallow minded and dull. There is nothing wrong with having African names. I have African names and i love them and i don’t need you to be able to pronouns them.

And stop talking about Doctorates because you are just a grade 12 failure married to a very old white man. You need to be very intelligent a get a PhD. Situmbeko Musokotwane is very educated and know economics than you and Sata put together.

  14. Thus the fate of some politicians they want to argue some issues just to be heard or to appeal to their blind supporters. You can imagine when Sata first used the 90days campaign message, unfortunately, i believed, and i cant blame myself as i was young still at university but now with the experience that i have working in the community pleease to hell with 90 days. i personally dont support politicians who would perpetuate “SOCIAL WELFARE”that failed in kaunda days. we need attitutide change to hard work period!

  15. @9 the more you write your thought on this blog, the more you expose your ignorance and inferiority complex, deeply entreched in colonial era mindset, “AGREE TO EVERY NOSENSE WHAT YOUR COLONIAL MASTERS HAVE TO SAY”, please we are 40+ years down after independence. We harding working Zambians will look to the future with hope even in difficult times.
By the way some European countries are still facing serous financial crisis, but look at Zambia, most statistics whether you like it or not show that the govt is doing a good job. Learn to live with it shaaaa

  16. @9 Mushota your debating lacks information, and is not issue based, lets be objective in our comments and not get personal whats african names got to do with this?
comming to the 90 days theory the old man sata sings about is an imposibility that has never worked anywhere and will probably never work even giant economies like japan,USA,germany etc cant archieve such claims in 90 days vote for a party that does things accordingly and in order, even if one wants a vote do u have to lie to the people?

  17. What controls has he put in place because the Auditor-General’s reports are forever stating the senseless financial bleeding going on in all government departments?

This man is a fake, and must be made to answer for the massive fraud going on in the mineral taxation area.

  18. i have not yet decided who to vote for, let Sata come up with another convincing message not 90days and more money in your pocket,it will not work, he will nevr convince on that one. otherwise i might feel comfortable with the status quo

  19. Zambia is a small country, with only 12million people. With smart leadership you can begin to change in Zambia within 90 days. You dont need 20 years to change a country.

  20. JIMBO THE REAL POWER BEHIND RB AND THE FORCE BEHIND THE NEW CORRUPTION

Once upon a time, there was James Banda, a non-descript benign “not so confident” typical boy next door who was trying to become a businessman in the harsh Lusaka Jungle.

He tried his luck at several business ventures starting from Salaula, fish, maize; you name it he tried it all but it wasn’t working.

He even tried to become a soccer promoter like his new hero, the estranged Congolese tycoon Moise Katumbi (T. P Mazembe FC owner) who made his money under highly questionable circumstances in Zambia. He is now Katanga Governor.

For some reason, every door he ever knocked was locked and every gun he ever tried went off.

  21. 13 No you do not be to very educated to get a PHD you sound a little backwards.almost anyone can obtain a PhD with enough money and time, and most of them have no future in academia. For me I have worked hard and never took a shortcut in obtaining my 2 Masters, ACCA and CIMA. So stop belittling me.
A Ph.D. shows persistence more than anything else, that does not mean you are smart nope. As for African names what I was trying to say when you have ambigous names such as the man above, you could do yourself a favour by shorteneing them. My fiance is Nicholas but he calls himself Nick. Michael for Mick. Benjamin for Ben. Cant he shorten his name the man above? We let purselves so badly It is quiete staggering and laughable If you ask me. Learn to try things, its called learning Thanks

  22. Another sleeping pill article! Mr minister sir, which US is ‘spending more’ (whatever this means) ,not the one I know! jst few months ago the US govt was almost shut because of akanono. Also china is not a developed nation (as far as I care) and is also not ‘spending more’, unless you prove it. dont speak like you’re speaking to your laborers at your farm, some of ur audiences are much more informed than you are (if at all you are).

Yes, mr Donchi kubeba’s 90-day development can only be understood by his cadres, otherwise its posible, not even the US can develop in a year!

    • Are you not seeing the replica of the 90 days development plan by Rubbish Bin in the country. It is possible or are we being screwed?.

  23. How many PF MP’s debate effectively or atleast contribute to motions in Parliament ai? Its only Given & Simuusa thats all, where are the rest,I expect fellow PF MP’s to come to the aid of Lubinda but eish bonse ni dont kubeba…..The party lacks intellectual depth from the top, what a shame

  24. This mushota  is a lunatic. Does she know that zambia is one of the best performing economies in africa? Aside with political retoric lets face it: Where on earth can one put more money in peoples pocket in 90 days? Just how rationale is this premise and what economic model would these noise for nothing pf chaps like Fiven Lubinda and the chief kaponyas like nsanda and the other moron who claims to own 8 companies and yet he his only interested in dividents and not management of his establishments. Please save us the embarrassment and keep quiet if you have nothing sensible to contribute. Any rational and sane person would expect the pf to expounge more on their policy on how they will perfome better than the current government policy which in my case seems to have surprised  the PF.

  25. #26 BaMwine
Who told you , that Zambia is this performing African country. 3 Things

    1. Your benchmark is other African countries, and I am sure Zimbabwe is one of them?
2.If you google or read reports on poorest countriesin the world zambia is in the tope 50!! Infoplease.com supports my claim
    3. You talking about Zambia , where It is now being proven that when you embezzle funds of close to a $1bn dollars you cant be jailed and the rest of people implicated will be set free, and any organisation (task Force) trying the vice will be disbanded. A country who live on $1 a day. A country whose Litreacy rate is seen as 68% Life expectancy is no more than 40, 14.1 % of people live with HIV (knowingly or not knowingly) .
Stop defending the Indefensible and wake up to reality!! Thanks

  26. Go Sata go……yateka dance….wapya Sata ayisa…MMD ni Zwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,time up time up guys,,pack your bags.tubombeko.Bwato cabe Do’nt kubeba..Change is coming.

  27. Guys stop terrorising Mushota, she is just expressing her opinions and lets stick to the subject at hand. Is what Situ saying about PF right or wrong period.

  28. Ba Mushota…I have noticed that despite your bitterness over Zambian men for ditching you, you have good interest over what is happening back home and that is why you blog on LT…that is good. By the way, those that did not know the real brains behind Magande, it is Musokotwane, him and a few others were the tecnocrats behind what ever successess Magade could have scored. Suplimentary bugdets are inevitable in uncertain times because they indicate unforseen circumstances, but if the Government is overspending on wrong priorities…mwapya….we will hount you at the right moment. I am an Economist and I am keenly following.

  29. @20 so what does jame’s personal busines life got to do with this debate?and this is what am toking about issue based debating guys we like to get too personal in zambia those are his personal issues and have nothing to do with us,which leads me to nbr 22 ba mushota your being petty is so amazing irritating if you asked me,how can someone’s names become an issue and who on earth is interested in your fiance?i see that you are lacking in information your responce to 26 lacks info, hilary clinton just recently in ethopia said zambia is among the top 3 economies in africa that includes Rwanda and ghana, zambia was on 2nd march 2011 lashed a credit rating of B+ by fitch ratings(hope you understand what that means knowing well you have ur masters) with the economy growing at over 6% vote RB

  30. Within less than 90 days RB has launched so many programmes such as Distributing free geazers, construction of roads in Lusaka and copperbelt etc.The 90 days Sata talked about which I totally agree with is that the Zambian economy will be re-directed towards achievable goals. The Zambian Economy is small and if write people are put in office you will see alot of changes within a short period of time.We have the money and we have skilled manpower, what we lucking are systems and discipline.I like this commitment of turning Zambia upside down with 90 days. With a responsible GVT, it is possible. Go for it Sata, you have our support.

  31. Mushota, I like it when you come out positive, irrespective of the fact that we may not agree on some things. Your comments will be of value because people will read and appreciate them even in disagreement. We will turn arround Zambia, we will not run away, we face the challenge of changing things right here at home. I have Engineer friends who decided to list boxes in shops in America and they are thinking of coming back home now. I now have property that I have worked hard for and I am proud. Invest back home and change things!

  32. 1. Cash to the people = Mines pay more taxes, government enables indigenous Zambians to invest locally, more employment, less pressure on a few paying tax

    2. Undertake development projects within 90 days = stop useless trips, avoid useless expenditures like mobile hospitals and for once to the practical and simple things. Everyone will be involved. If roads can be graded (just fuel needed) in Kabwata 90 days from election, what makes it impossible to do other simple things PEOPLE, NOT some few peoples pockets, appreciate?

    Yaba

  33. Sata is in History of achieving goals which a lot of people initially disagree with, I remember when he was governor of Lusaka, he lobbied for support to build the only fly bridges we have in Lusaka. He echeived alot resistance from the GVT because some thought it was a waste of money. He then came up with the issue of not urinating and spiting in public, again many thought it is not achievable. Now it is a BIG one of 90 days. WARNING: SATA THINKS BIG,that is why out performs the most Educated. No matter how many Doctorate Degrees you can posses, you cant much SATA.His leadership qualities are not acquired in a lecture room but  inborn.

  34. I admit, I am biased towards RB simply because I personally feel of the people trying to sell themselves this year, he may be the more sincere man. He is certainly not my envisioned typical leader, but I have painfully no other choice. For the first time, I have considered what no. 35 has said and it makes a lot of sence. Here we are not just blogging for the sake of blogging. If within the few months RB has shown so much energy it means that it can be done and I strongly believe Zambia is not as poor as it is potrayed. Look at the human resource, we literaly prop up the Southern Africa region and beyond, and don’t even mention natural reasources.

  35. @ 36 thats the way to go gud shot, coming back home to invest in ur own nation,@ 29 chipulu sata yes i agree i was a stonch suppoter of michael sata in 2006 and am proud to say his 90 days theory didnt make sence to me and so many other issues like money in my pocket, lets be objective even as we campaign

  36. What are you saying you farty ***** Situmbeko! Your rantings won’t change the mind of the citizenry, your time is up and you know it f/ool. It’s time for you to fuocking pack up your bags and go id/iot swine scum bags. Pieces of crap sh/iiiit!
Don’t overspend and leave us in debt, you filthy maggot slugs!

  37. 33# ZyamboHillary was going to say that, what do you expect, of someone who comes in your house, do you expect them to say your food was bad, your house is dirty. For sanity sake If I did that I am sure you would put your filthy, dirty hands on me.
The Fitch rating proves nothing, It is the ability to attract credit, and thus creditworthy and that should not be surprising should it? The rating will show that Greece and Portugal are worse off than Zambia It dos not mean their economy is better off that Zambia. If a bank refuses me to get a mortgage It dos not mean I am poor, but rather my activities of recent times or I fail their ‘test’ Zambia in football being ranked better than Scotland does not mean you can even come close to scoring a goal against Craig Gordon…

  38. …..
That just means that your past , and In most cases the recent past
Reflects that people have confidence in you.
The USA, China, the West love Zambia. In case of China they love your country because you are naïve, they build a road and give you second hand computers and
You give them the mines right?

The statistics show the country is poor, and the mortality rate, life expectancy, theft, naiveness prove this conclusively

My fiancé Nick thinks It will take years to recover from this
    Thanks

  39. Mushota i like your comments, you are so straight when it comes to some critical isues,i enjoy every comment you post, you are intelliget. Can i have your contact details so that we can start communicating even out of here.

  40. MMD manifesto on Education-in the last 5 years gvt has; increase enrolment at G1-7 by 108% from 1.6 m pupils in 2000 to 3.33 m in 2008; improved quality of education by making learning mater…ials such as books widely available; embarked on an infrastructure contruction program to address the imbalance in the provision of schools particularly in rural areas; made improvements in the pupil-teacher ratio through increased training and recruitment ;increased access to tetiary education with the opening of the mulungushi Uni and several private Uniz; can someone pliz tell me what the PF manifesto says on education
and 37 and 35 for all you know RB has been working since 2008 some even accuse him of having starting early bcoz 3 yrs to election time was short, the man did not start wrking now

  41. Mwebantu, Musokotwane just like all MMD crooks are in a confused state because time has run out for them and soon and very soon they shall face the Zambians in the courts of Law. What we are seeing today under this corrupt and senseless regime is worse than what UNIP was doing and this is why all men and women should voice their disgust on the ballot. MMD should concede defeat just after the results from the sixth Province has been announced. All YOUTHS should also know that waht MMD is doing to Zambians is what led to 1991 revolution. MMD is worse than UNIP. ENOGH IS ENOUGH. Viva Ubwatoooooooooooooooooooooo, Sata

  42. #27 Mushota. You claim to have two masters, CIMA and ACCA, but suprisingly your reasoning and construction of sentences leaves much to be desired. Firstly, we all know that zambia is a poor country, but does that stop the country from performing well  economically especially in the last 10 years? The fact is, the economy is on the right truck, stable exchange rate, 5% average GDP, EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES, IMPROVED HEALTH FACILITIES ETC.are all positive indicators that soon the levels of poverty will improve. You don’t expect to eradicate poverty completely, even in the US there are poor people. Shame on you and your fake qualifications.BY THE WAY WHICH CO. DO YOU WORK FOR?

  43. and this f/ool still wonders why the draft constitution failed to go through? That draft was a piece of alien dog sh/it! there was no way the people were going to accept a draft document in which the initial aspirations of the Zambian people were left out.
You are a bunch of lazy and selfish frogs. The only thing you can you can liken to your brains in nature is a pile of decomposing cow dung.
You MMD id/iots have no other life line once your parliament sessions end. You are so insecure to the point of stupidity that you would support that fat upside-down topsy-turvy piece of clown sh/it Rupiah Bozo Banda the biggest living humpty-dumpty on the planet, a mere maggot ape from outer space with nothing more than horse piss for a medulla oblangata.

  44. Ka Mushota iwe, #48, Zambia has brainy studded citizens and all they need is tested and focused leadership. I for one does not subscribe to this nosense that Zambia is poor but rather it has let poor leadership take control of its affairs. Let Sata come into power and all intelligent learned Zambians will help his Government realise his vision for this rich and powerful country. Zambia for me and Sata in Sate House I will surely help him exceed the Zambian expectations. For instance can anyone in MMD explain the Kwacha has consistently struggled against major currencies in the midst of “development?’ DONT KUBEBA we are prepared for real change, its too much ………..Viva Sata

  45. Iwe ka MUSHOTA, stop boza, in your empty shallow mind, you wish you had 2 masters degrees. Just continues cleaning old peoples’ bottoms in Scotland. You cant tell me anything on how to get a PhD because i know much on that.

To hell with you Dick or Nick, whatever you call him, i will keep my full African name, i love it.

You have all your information twisted, the life expectancy for Zambia is  51.13 years for men and  53.63 years for women and these figures are constantly adjusting upwards as health care is becoming more reachable by the majority os Zambians.
Literacy rates in Zambia are at 80.6%, and if you don’t know what this means, it means that 80.6% of the people above the age of 15 can read and write.

Get your facts right before you expose your ignorance

  46. now in the next 5yr mandate that the zambian people will give the MMD govt will; provide free education for every boy n girl up to G9;expand and improve early childhood care education, especiually for the most disadvantaged; eliminate gender disparities in access to and performance in education; expand education training opportunities at tetiary and vocational training levels; and there is more by bro..now the MMD is in the next 5yrs going to provide free education to all children up to grade 9.so I ASK AGAIN-Y CHANGE,and yet more i ask whats the PF plan on education RB has been working since 2008 ba chipulu en all have you heard

  47. #50Zyambo
Stop yelling, at least that is my understanding of capital letters. Interesting you have failed to answer any of my points and you resort to question my education. Bottom-line is, I am as educated as I have stated above period, sad you have a problem with that, oops, I forgot I am in Glasgow and I have a man who is twice the man you are in many ways. Stop making me feel debased just for knowing you exist.
If you will judge me by your dilapidated corrupt mind, when I post that’s all ok to me, I will judge you by what comes out of you, and they were lies that I have quickly thrown out of the window.
Stop proving to be a putrescent mass, or a walking vomit. Trying to be a spineless little worm deserving nothing but the profoundest contempt is not what I am here to talk of
    . ..

    • Iwe who care if you are in Glasgow? We all know that you are not educated, you only wish you had 2 master degrees, to me, you sound like a high school girl.

  48. and for your own info Mushota, cinton did not say that about zambia in zambia she said it in Ethopia(obviously so that the zed oposition shud not say she is campaigning for RB which she wasnt anyway) waht ever her reasons zambia’s economy is growing.i dont need a masters to understand that or even the GDP,this economic growth that zambia is experiencing is so vital for development without which you never develop, china for instance some good 50 yrs ago was growing at almost the same rate as our nation but was not as developed as it is now,a giant economy, for all u know its the fastest growing economy seconded by japan yet japan is more developed than the former, all am saying is the development we want to see may not hapen in a nyt or in 90 days as one puts it but it takes time all u need is

  49. . I usually don’t respond to weasels or cads but I did. You are trying to be a stench, revulsion or a big suck on a sour lemon.
If you continue being dull, mendacious, loathsome, despicable, belligerent I will ignore you. Grow up! Thanks

  50. Big up Lubinda for raising these questions. That’s what an opposition party is for. I am a great fun of Dr. Musokotwane as a technocrat cum politician. Who is his PF shadow? Not Ludinda, I guess. He did not have to be condescending though.
With regards to this year’s budget there is additional tax revenue from the mining companies that was not in the original budget, isn’t there? So, I am guessing GRZ just wants to accelerate the spending and as long as it’s on investment, and not consumption, there is nothing to complain about. What’s the hoohah?

  51. Pliz, ladies and gentlemen, the topic is Musokotwane cautions Zambian over PF. This Mushota does not know what is going on in Zambia. Piece of advise, pliz, concentrate on Nickkk;;

  52. 1&2 should be ashamed of themselves. 1 for you in simple terms, Sata has promised to show Zambia the progressive way to develop in 90 days. You wait and you will see what the man is made of. Situmbeko is lying for RB and covering up with his useless economics PHD. He fails to resist RB with his knowledge and chooses to call Given Lubinda ignorant simply because he doesn’t have a PHD.
2, shame on you for being issueless, for even a fatherless child has better better brains than you and is also a Zambian with full rights like you. SHAME!!!!!!!

  53. The man just wants to keep his job, which no doubt he has been trying to enjoy, and can’t imagine being without it.

  54. Trade and the economy (RB since 2008)

•economic growth predicted at 6.6% or stronger
•inflation falling to 8% by the end of the year
•mineral export earnings of US$4.2 billion in the last year
•other export earnings of US$1.4 billion in the last year
•investment of over US$2 billion with 18,000 new businesses being registered in the last year
•copper production forecast to rise 10% to new high of 900,000 tonnes in 2011
•one of the ten most-improved economies in the World Bank ease of doing business ranking 2011
•a B+ sovereign credit rating by international ratings agencies Fitch and Standard & Poors

    • Now, this is what i call progress, Zambia is destined for serious development. Thanks for feeding this information to PF cadres

  55. I am tired of being attacked by people on this blog
People who don’t have as much money as I have,
Some of you I can see you are not as educated. Most of you the only thing worse than your logic is your manners. I have snipped away most of what you wrote, because, well… it didn’t really say anything. Your attempt at constructing a creative flame was pitiful. I mean, really, stringing together a bunch of insults among a load of babbling was hardly effective… Maybe later in life, after you have learned to read, write, spell, and count, you will have more success. True, these are rudimentary skills that many of us “normal” people take for granted that everyone has an easy time of mastering.

    • People are attacking you because you are dull and shallow. When you say you have a lot of money you, you mean in your pocket right now….ka? People with money don’t brag.

  56. But we sometimes forget that there are “challenged” persons in this world who find these things more difficult. If I had known, that this was your case then I would have never read your posts. It just wouldn’t have been “right”. Sort of like parking in a handicap space. I wish you the best of luck in the emotional, and social struggles that seem to be placing such a demand on any of you that attack me. I cannot believe how incredibly stupid you are. I mean rock-hard stupid. Dehydrated-rock-hard stupid. Stupid so stupid that it goes way beyond the stupid we know into a whole different dimension of stupid. You are trans-stupid stupid. Meta-stupid. Stupid collapsed on itself so far that even the neutrons have collapsed. Stupid gotten so dense that no intellect can escape. Thanks

  57. This is the first time I am on the blog and my tears have come out
.You are a waste of flesh. You have no rhythm. You are ridiculous and obnoxious. You are the moral equivalent of a leech. You are a living emptiness, a meaningless void. You are sour and senile. You are a disease, you puerile one-handed slack-jawed drooling meatslapper.
On a good day you’re a half-wit. You remind me of drool. You are deficient in all that lends character. You have the personality of wallpaper. You are dank and filthy. You are asinine and benighted. You are the source of all unpleasantness. You spread misery and sorrow wherever you go.

I am so sad and upset, no one attacks me and calls me these names :(( Thanks

  58. #58 iwe mushota, shut up what do you know about zambia it seems snow has frozen your brains wherever u are try to look at this angle so simple,in your house you have everything able to send your children ton school support your families extended for that matter what can u call that is it not improvement.now i bring u back to zambia see here hitachi in zambia,BARRICK GOLD in zambia,BHP biliton honestly your eyes i dont know if they are blind, even a lay man would see for himself talk real issues no just barking ……………..whatever govt zambia is on the right track God bless zambia

  59. Mushota, finally you have snapped out. You think you can just be insulting Zambians and we will just let you do that. If you want you can stop comment on this blog and no one will miss you.
Go and kiss Nick’s dick, you will feel better. To hell with you, how dare do you insult Zambians.

  60. @68 no one calls you those names coz evryone is above that who cares is you have money LT I took it for granted that everyone is mature here but hey i was wrong, people lets concentrate on the motion which is Mr musokotwane’s statement, some people think being abroad is so much an achievment, father forgive them for the know not what they do

  61. Mushota, Seems like you lost it this time. A person who claims to be so educated should  not use such disgraceful language, no matter how upset you might be. Or  has hell broke loose that you claim of masters, ACCA and CIMA brought shame on you. Indeed you are not fit to be on this blog because you an empty shell, hell bent on exposing you ignorance.

  62. Easy Mushota, change your ways and you will die a happier more satisfied individual. We are happy in Zambia by the way, we have our straggles but we shall overcome. If we all runaway with some white man or woman who will change things for Zambia?. Your children, if you will have any, might one day want to know where their mother comes from and they will come to Zambia, which hopefully will be better than it is now. Don’t boast about what you have adopted yourself to, you are what you are. No matter how much fat a pig has, it can never become an elephant.

  63. Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! Mushota is on fire!! B.I.T.C.H!

  64. …and # 68 Mushota, I am very disappointed with you,an intelectual does not behave like that. This somehow shows the difference between people with “professional qualifications without academic qualifications and those with both or just an academic qualification”. Levels of analysis and tolerance of divergent views differ. By the way come back home and help develop this beautiful nation. With your qualifications you can get a better paying job here and Nick can gladly follow you. Please hold your temper! Stay blessed!

  65. Agriculture:

an unprecedented 3 million tonne maize harvest in 2011, bringing self-sufficiency in food and increased exports without risk to Zambian food security ,exports of maize following a surplus of 1.7 million tonnes ,500,000 farmers benefitting from the highly successful Farmer Input Support Programme, which is being expanded ,increased production in most major crops ,the establishment of a new Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries ,the provision of K37 billion to build dams for irrigation and water supply to livestock

  66. -in the last 5yrs mmd gvt has; facilitated the creation of competitive agriculture sector that assures food security at national level and hsehold levels and maximise the sectors contribution to the GDP; ensure input sup…port for the vulnerable communities in rural areas through the farmer input support program which benefited close to 1m small scale farmer; promote irrigation for all yr round agriculture; etc..n also zero rated tax on agric equipment my brother..the smale scale farmer contributes to the bumper harvests recorded and the gvt has been committed to purchasing the maize from all farmers at a price of ZMK65,000, what a government

  67. 58 Mushota###### MY SISTER MUSHOTA WHY ARE SO BITTER WITH ZAMBIAN MEN? I DONT THINK YOUR SPIRIT IS A SPIRIT OF SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN SAVED BY THE LORD. I LOVE YOU BUT YOUR LANGUAGE IS TOO STRONG FOR A NICE LADY LIKE YOU.

  68. Ka Mushota is just a whorl in the cold lands. Lets focus on campaigning for our candidates for we know Zambia is better than where she is and more reason we want ACTION MAN to take charge. Ignore this slut, we have work to do, campaign till Zambia is freed form corruption byMMD. Viva Sata….

  69. If all those impessive economic statistics can not be translated in meaningful improvement in the lives of ordinary zambians then they are useless. Sata has got a history of practical achievements, he is saying something significant will be seen in his first 90 days in office. The socalled educated with PHDs and Masters degrees have failed us. Mugabe with his nine degrees in various fields managed to bring down a once vibrant economy to its knees with a record 1000% inlation rate.

  70. Mushota ‘we gero’ as they would call you in Scotland, you have such a low esteem. You look down upon yourself in such a way, nobody can really help you. (you confessed this yourself) I am wondering how your small white’god’ relates with somebody like you who regards oneself as scum. I have reason to believe that your man has issues of his own just like you….an end scum of that society to accept a scum of your kind.

  71. Mr Zyambo Anrew , no. 65 , all those impressive staistics are nothing if the life of the average zambian in shangombo, kaputa, lundazi or zambezi has not improved but has since worsened.

  72. In all honesty I think Zambia is on the move. Yes we still have a long way to go but the question is which route we decide to take as individuals. We have two categories of people in Zambia. The ambitious and enterprising young men and women that have decided to embrace these opportunities and are actually making major strides, this group tends to be non-political, if they are, it is with very little emotional attachment. The second category are the ones that are sitting and complaining about everything, politicizing every single thing that happens in the country, this group will continue waiting for their messiah, saying “Nga ba teka fyonse fikaba bwino.”

  73. Zyambo, #65 is just a corrupt and lazy MMD carder. He thinks all of us depend on hand outs back stabbing. PF colleagues let’s do the right thing now till the voting day, that is, CAMPAIGN HARD and VIGOROUS EVERYWHERE HIGHLIGHTING THE MANY ATROCITIES THAT HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THIS MMD REGIME WHICH MORE DAMAGING THAN UNIP. TILL VICTORY TO PF IS DELIVERED, WE GOT WORK TO DO GUYS, SO LETS NOT TIRE FOR GLORY IS SOON APPROACHING. UBWATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAS DOCKED.

  74. #82 Have you been to all those areas to back up your claim that their lives have worsened? How can that be true given the fact that they have food security which is the first priority for all of us? They can sell their surpluses which allows them to spend money on other things that make life a little bit easier. Dont forget that the rural populace are the ones who have also benefited the most from the universal fuel price which has seen the price of fuel fall in rural areas. The fact that most people in rural areas vote for MMD is testament to the fact that as far as they are concerned the govt has been delivering. If you continue to bury your head in the sand my friend, expect to be disappointed when the election results are announced.

  75. You people dont understand,We are saying Banda is going with MMD ,it doesnt matter he does.MYSRIP

  76. # 85, I would have loved for you to mention what you will do that MMD is not doing instead. Move away from criticising without giving solutions or alternatives.

  77. The calibre of pf parliametarians leaves much to be desired .i dont know hw they will run zed.PF is full of kaponyas

  78. ” Dr. Musokotwane said such parties would leave chaos in the country because they would mismanage the economy and cause high levels of poverty ”

You mean they would form competition to the MMD? Message to the dozy, dull brained minister – THERE ALREADY ARE HIGH LEVELS OF POVERTY IN THE COUNTRY. YOU YOURSELF STATED THAT FOLLOWING THE MMD’S POLICIES, THERE WOULD BE NO SIGNIFICANT DENT MADE IN POVERTY FOR AT LEAST 30 YEARS!

What a moron. We have already seen what mismanagement (non-management) of the economy looks like, and it is called neoliberal economics.

  79. The fair and down to earth thing to do is admit that Zambia is heading in the right direction. To begin to consider that Sata’s 90 day magical theories could transform Zambia into a better nation is too depressing an assumption. In Sata we have been offered no evidence of the sheerest prospect of change. In fact, in Sata we have an individual who that this nation can not call to order.

  80. Interesting that Mushota has finally been broken. I feel sorry for her because she is indeed troubled and needs a lot of help. I have said before that she continues to expose herself with every contribution and anybody can tell that these are the tell tell signs of a life of frustrations and disappointments. As the saying goes “you can take a monkey out of the jungle but you cannot take the jungle out of him”. The conclusion is that she misses home and is too proud to come out in the open and admit it. Education, Marks and Spender , Tesco e.tc. cannot replace Kunganda.

  81. Dr. Musokotwane (BA,MA, PHD) has explained everything very well. It just seems that the explanation is too advanced for PF MPs to understand. This is the same party that does not see the significance of inflation control and currency stability on which Dr. Fundanga (BA,MA,PHD) has done exceptionally well on.

One wonders the kind of leaders Zambia could have under a PF govt. They have already mismanaged the councils. The economy would be mismanaged out of control with their 90 day utopia.

The good thing though, is that PF will never rule Zambia.

  82. What those that embrace Sata and what he offers, in the first place entails overlooking the principle flaws he represents. What ever niceties he may tickle his ardent admirers with, it must never be removed from him what his past has represented.

This is a man who will without hesitation turn this country into a slave plantation, and no one will hold him to account. To elevate him as an assurer of vengence upon tpercieved enemies is as myopic as is distressing. No one will be spared from his distructive tendencies.

  83. can sombody tell me why Michael sata left the MMD,i know that nawakwi, miyanda and the others left because of chilubaa’s third term bid which MS supported to the bone.

  84. Where some people see progress others see failure, when you are in leadership you must not see failure and you will make it,, zambia has alot of money which has been misplaced eg Chiluba is keeping billions but people are languishing in poverty we need some one to help solve this problem

  85. @98 which billions is chiluba keeping do you have proof?and that is what we are advocating for issue based politics not finger pointing for all u know michael sata too was aquited by the courts of law the very court that found chiluba inncocent aswell

  86. When he talks about cushion jobs, what jobs is he talking about? Many jobs were lost in the C/belt and many mines closed and he and RB were quiet about it. Because of poor leadership, we missed the opportunity of taking back some mines which were abandoned. The government should have recapitalised the mines and should be enjoying the good metal prices prevailing at the moment. The US government took control of GM motors and look at what has happened to GM, and America is a pure capitalist, that’s good leadership. We need good shares in the mines as a country and this cannot happen with this MMD government and it’s greed leadership

  87. Ba MMD, your panic mode is amazing! You claim no developmental direction can be seen in 90 days. Your own Rubbish Bin was flying around like a butterfly for more than 2 years, until he realised elections are in a few months. Then he started to corruptly implement infrastructure developments of all hues without evaluating the human resource requirement to operate them when they are finished. Due to this position, intelligent people like his royal highness Chief Nkomeshya Mukamambo II have refered to these structures as white elephants. We asked RB to tax the mines using windfall tax, but he resisted so that he can go back and get campaign money untransparently, corruptly and like a real mafia! In addition to this we have seen dirty deals like ZAMTEL, Meanwood land, NAPSA/ZNBS. VIVA MCS!

  88. There was a time when I used to think this man was intelligent. Alas, my confidence was incredibly misplaced as every time he opens his mouth, only rubbish comes out!

  89. Just a word of caution to the people, please we should be weary of percentages which the learned politicians like to throw at us. You see, Percentages offer a fertile field for confusion. A percentage is always a percentage of something and that something is called the base. If they tell you the base of a calculation it can make a big difference and most politicians just like to quote percentages without giving the base. The trick for most politicians is to choose from many possible measures the one which is most favourable to their argument.

  90. Kapotwe @ 83 I Think your contribution is one of the most intelligent contributions on this blog. While some have let hatred and bias blind them to opportunies that are there, others especially foreigners are busy taking advantages of the opportunities. When the rest of the world is woowed by the economic strides Zambia has made in the recent past, Zambians are just criticising and still looking for a messiah. Likaomba koma kuothelathu (enjoy the sun while it is still shinning”

  91. No 107 i personally know of many Zambian who are making a good living and making good money due to the good economic policies the government has put in place. I have also personally invested in two ventures being run by Zambian even if am in Australia and yes am making good money..
Many rural Zambian have seen improvements in their lives… they no long queue for government food or have to travel to Lusaka for medical treatment including my grand mother and guess what these are the people who are going to vote and they know who the are voting for… like the saying ” You do not kill the goose that lays your golden egg”

  92. Also do not forget that African elections are won and lost in the Rural areas… no amount of blogging will change that…

  93. In the minister’s own words (October 9, 2010):

” We can afford to borrow – Finance minister ”

” And Dr Musokotwane said *it might take over 30 years* for Zambia, which is this month celebrating 46 years of Independence, to accomplish *meaningful poverty reduction.* “

  94. Number 67, why ranting insults. Be civil, such strong and vulgar language is a bad way to vent anger or frustration. To be honest, may God save any man from marrying a lady with such a collection of insults punctuated by insults. Such , as Jesus said, don’t just go by praying alone. You need prayers and fasting. You need healing. Do so ASAP before you become irredeemable.

  95. #111

Peter I completely regret that. i lost my compsoure, I feel terrible looking back, please accept my forgiveness. I take those words back immediately, I am sorry. Thanks

  96. @ #108 The Engineer (Australia)

I absolutely agree with you. Foreigners are coming because they have seen the huge amounts of opportunities that exist in Zambia. During AGOA, everyone saw the large delegation of CEO’s Zambia received from the USA.

What people should know is there is growing interest in Africa. Wal-Mart (worlds largest retailer) has already started investing. There are many investors who regret not investing in China 30 years ago because they missed out on the opportunities.

In today’s age, who doesn’t want to invest in Africa. Africa has 52 countries, this gives investors opportunities to shop around for an investment destination. Zambia is predicted to be amongst the top 10 worlds fastest growing economies (2011-2015). It is attractive for investment.

  97. @ 108 great comment the problem with zambia is we blame govt for everything even if your michael sata won you would all be blaming govt for being broke i believe most of us are young pipo here lets emulate 107 business ideads our economy is favourable enough for that not all of us should be working i mean i personally lost my job because my firm was downsizing if i sat back and blamed the govt i’d die of starvation, but not trying to boast i enganged in a samll business web designing(contact me for one if u need,am on f.b) which happens to sustain me,what ever govt came into power you people will still blame even if obama himself came to rule us

  98. Mushota, what a wise decision to apologies. Bold and wise. We all make mistakes. The good thing is God forgives!!! I guess we can now contribute to this discussion in a cordial manner, no matter the diversity of views and opinions, we are all Zambians. Cheers.

  99. ALL of you who criticize PF on the blog, putting the numbers together, you cant even make a councillor win in a small ward. sp please stop giving yourselves false hopes. MMD on the ground kuyabebele. There is so much development that RB has brought which is microscopic

  100. 116 if you knew something about principles of war you would not have said that,as they say never under estimate your opponent you are better of over estimating,do you know any of these bloggers and there standing in politics, with pf there is only one thing that kills them, vote splitting this in my opinion is what is also going to kill them in this election, sadly it is nick named “rigging” in zambia they started well with the pact and screwed up but you know for sure that MMD we winning coz u spliting votes again

  101. Mushota your apology has been accepted, going forward, i look at the remarks by this minister as hypoceitical. K1.4 trillion is a huge sum to be spent on a supplimently budget. please remove a log in your eyes before you remove a speck in some one’s eyes.

  102. gearbox nyambe chikala its not about winning elections, but winning and delivering to the campaign promises. its not about becoming a ward councilor or MP and share 90% of the plots to yourselves and only give 10% to people with money at the expense of the poor, you ostrich brain with not only short but no memory.

  103. Were can we go with such a chief executive Elias Mpondela. He has worked at the following compnies all grounded,Phenix constrators yalipwa,Modani press yalipwa,Mutenda/Duly Motors yalipwa,ASRO Hondings Yalipwa National Housing Authority (NHA) workers have today staged a protest to press for the payment of over 3 months salary arrears.

The workers, who were contracted to construct houses at the Leopards Hill road NHA site, have accused their employer of breaching their employment contracts.

They have since vowed not return to work if management does not give them their salary arrears by the end of this week.

Meanwhile, National Housing Authority Corporate Affairs Executive, Bwalya Makasa has refuted the workers’ claims saying the workers are instead owed one month salary arrea

  104. Good evening

Our Finance Minister has raised some challenging arguments regarding Zambia’s economic future. It’s a pity that very few bloggers have taken time to analyse the lecture and debate on the contents. Most of them have joined a pointless quarrel and war of words.

And Mushota, you appear to be a nice person and I personally appreciate the fact that you participate so eagerly and contribute passionately to the topics on LT but sometimes you just let things carry you too far. You have offended many bloggers lately with your negative statements about Zambia and Zambians. I feel you should drop that offensive tone and show some respect to the community you blog with. I’ m not judging you, just giving you a tip.

  105. Mushota the deliquent(chintonfwa)..
there is no doubt beyond my reasonable thinking that mushota is sick and desperatly needs counselling.having folowed everything happing here, the girls need help serious.consult some social workers in glassgow and a psychatric who will be very happy to deal with ur problem my poor friend.having accepted ur apology,i would advice u to live LT for a least a week while u are undergoing treatment. then u will come back a good blogger. u have a low self esteem, inferiority complex, xenophobiaand fear of ur home country which u will eventual go to as ur mum and dad are still there in zambia.please Mushota take my serious advice. napapata…many thanks

  106. Hey people if mushota does not like Zambia and zambians,LT was going to be the last web page she will go to.if mushota hates African names like musokotwane etc she could have changed hers first to cheryl or Lisa etc.She is one of us.I only read and never blog but I’m worried how she has managed and succeeded in irritating the whole lot of you.Zambians we luck tolerance !!!!! If its true she is a lady then she just  pulls your pants ignore. She loves Zed that’s why she still knows about this site,Satan,HH etc.If you cannot ignore her please tolerate her. Those who have lived with disabled or mental sick family member knows what I’m talking about. We cannot change our sister online but we can live with her pls once again she needs help more than hate. Amen.

  107. Oh please sorry to PF members I meant to write Sata but the iPad thought I wanted to write Satan. Also “luck” should be lack.

  108. Musokotwane PF can’t be stopped by mmd to form next government. Zambians want to put a party with foresigh and that is PF, which knows that gysers don’t work without water and that there is no electricity for K21,000.00 anywhere in the world. You are just fooling yourselves (mmd) and not the people. Since when did you become the spokesman for the zambian people? Zambians know what is right and wrong. Stop wasting your time, by giving blind advice. Time is up for mmd to pack and go.

  109. #124.im glad a solution for our poor sister Mushota is within reach now.serious rehabilition of madam mushota is urgently needed.anybody who knows a social worker of psychatrist or should contact LT ASAP.she is a good girl ,just some of her bad habits should be eliminated by qualified and dedicaded personel.please help!!!!! urgent..

  110. But Mushota lelo wafitukana ifimasele, ulimukali. I thought all the gays are sober minded, really suprised!

    #112
“accept my forgiveness” (who is forgiving who, or is it just cizungu?)
    #122
my understanding is that friends (and enemies) on this blog are in different time zones, so may be that ‘good evening’ doest work well here (your evening might be my morning here). I thot u might just need to to go straight into comenting.

  111. While hate speech must not be condoned, Mushota must not be discouraged to speak out. She represents the views of many exposed Zambians. She calls a spade a spade which may hurt.
I was also hurt when i visited club 1-0 in blantyre now called club 2-0. I asked why the name change. They said Kaunda 1-0, now Rupiah 2-0 as the number of times Malawians have ruled the sleepest nation in the world. I was terribly hurt yet i realised it was the truth. That is who we are and we might do it again. Get exposure internationally and you begin to realise how lowly placed we are expect for being peaceful which might be confused with cowardice. Even struggling neighbours like ZIM or MAL have no respect for us. Nothing to admire about ZA except how sleepy we are.

  112. The realities that mushota is going through are experienced by many zambians as they travel abroad. It may just be that they dont speak out. Ask anyone abroad as from which country are people who do not like each other when abroad, the most obvious answer is Zambia. Ask anyone as in which country are people with the strongest respect for foreigners than themselves – the answer is Zambia.
Even the British ambassador had to question as to why such inferiority complex. Zambians believe anything foreign is better than themselves. These are facts that hurt. When you realise who Zambians are, you get answers to these questions. We have to change and wake up!!!

  113. I have heard of many suggestions to heal the Zambian situation such as the jokingly idea of slaughtering everyone and start afresh which i dont agree with. I think we first need to accept that there is a problem. Then we are half way done. If we keep pretending, we are not going anywhere especially in the face of facts that hurt. Then we can start the cleaning up process and making our people more informed to begin to realise the fundamental core values of life.

  114. #26 BAMWINE; Who told you that Zambia is performing well? Please check your facts properly. Mushota #27 has put it very well. Its you who is a lunatic for not seeing the poverty in Zambia. And who says you can’t put money in your pocket in 90 days? RB and his minions where able to put money in their pockets 1 month after being elected into office. Whats makes you think Sata can’t put money in our pockets in 90 days? Chiluba the thief was able to put more that US$60m in 10 years (US$500,000 per month) in his pocket; Please don’t be f.o.o.l.e.d by the MMD handouts you are getting.

  115. I just wonder how people think. How can you expect development overnight? Zambia was broke, busted and disgusted in 1991. The MMD did not start at ZERO, it started at MINUS $7 billion. We came to zero during Mwanawasa’s rule when our debt was FORGIVEN. We could no longer borrow to invest but only to consume. Remember the mealie meal coupons? ZCCM ground to a halt. Some mines were put on care and maintenance. To compound things further, we had a famine in 1994-6. In 1999 came El Nino! Development may be slow but it is sure and we should give credit where it is due. Whichever government comes next, will build on this and should, but we risk going backwards in time.

  116. As for the so called ‘abject poverty’, I do not know whether people just like the flow of these words or what? There is poverty EVERYWHERE in the west. In the UK, thanks to Lloyd George, they have welfare. They tax the rich in order to give handouts to the poor. Now, that is possible in a country where 60% of the population are above the age of 20 and earn good money. In Zambia, 60% of the population is below 21 and earn close to nothing! You will have to tax the minority until the pips squeak to support a welfare state! We need to create wealth as a nation as well as individuals to provide a larger tax pot to help the under-privileged.

  117. We criticise, criticise and criticise all the time, but no one is offering solutions to the problems the country is facing. My sister Mushota is disgusted, and rightly so, with the filth etc, but Scotland has not always be like this you know. The United Kingdom was built on the blood and sweat of our ancestors, trans located from their homeland and sent to the sugarcane and cottton fields of the west. Cecil Rhodes came to Kimberley as a sickly teenager, and by 30 he had become a millionaire plundering the diamonds and gold of the Xhosa and Tswana peoples. Now, you cry foul over the Chinese who are mining with our INFORMED consent! The British ruled and sacked Zambia for 60 years, and never built a university! Come on!

  118. Usually the negative minded individulas make the most noise. They are negative in everything they do. I am a proud educated Zambian, who has had an opportunity to see Many countries developed and non developed alike from America, asia and Africa through my job. I have also spent time in Scotland, where Mushota mistakes it for heaven. I can never stay anywhere else other than sweet Zambia, I want to make it big right here and I am on course. Zambians, don’t be cheated, Zambia is lovely, let us fight to make things even better for ourselves and not be negative all the time. Let us not tolerate any bad leaders who ever they can be. Viva Zambia!

  119. 133 u calling zambians sleepy,u shud know for sure that most of them are busy making money and if they had the time they too would go abroad but the questin is to do wat?u embarance me shud going abroad be such an achievment,i’ve had a chance of being in ,cleveland, cincinati and finally setled in columbus, you will be amazed at the kindo of jobs zambians have out there,so shody even pipo thiz ends are much happier its so stressing unless you are being kept or something, its amazing how we forget our roots, mwayamba chizungu cho slanger you even call ur own pipo sleepy, you cant compare zedians to those lazy white pipo out there, mushota knows why she apologised her sentiments were wrong, this is what i call slave mentality ba 133

  120. I am afraid the good doctor is being carried away with his anti-PF paranoia. My understanding of the PF slogan of “more money in your pockets” is that it refers to the increase in the purchasing power of consumers that would result if the PF government reduced the currently extortionate taxes we are all subjected to. I don’t think this means printing money and giving it to citizens like confetti or recklessly spending it like drunken sailors. On achieving certain development goals, Dr. Musokotwane is contradicting his own boss RB who has actually demonstrated that certain infrastructural projects can be completed in less than 90 days. Just look at the rapid rate roads in Kitwe, Ndola, and Lusaka are being rehabilitated in less than 90 days before the 2011 elections!

  121. Economic Shifts are real, the reason why china is growing fast is as a result of cheap labor. As its citizens build income and become more independent, labor cost will go up and what NEXT….. Manufacturers will run to Africa for cheap labor……… watch this unfold in the next decade or so. But what is Zambia doing about it? Can our leadership see this coming? I doubt it very much.

  122. 143 Max Mbizo,

” RB who has actually demonstrated that certain infrastructural projects can be completed in less than 90 days. Just look at the rapid rate roads in Kitwe, Ndola, and Lusaka are being rehabilitated in less than 90 days before the 2011 elections! ”

You have to wonder what is keeping them from building roads the rest of the year. Maybe we should have elections every 90 days. :)
