The Electoral Commission of Zambia Chairperson Justice Ireen Mambilima has met the 2011 presidential candidates with a call for issue based campaigns.
Justice Mambilima said that the commission would like to see a change in the way political parties conduct their campaigns this year.
She has told Presidential candidates to avoid dwelling on personalities and instead concentrate on issues affecting people whose votes they will be seeking on the Election Day.
Justice Mambilima was speaking in Lusaka on Wednesday when she officially opened an Electoral Commission meeting with aspiring Presidential candidates on the 2011 tripartite elections.
The meeting was called to brief all presidential candidates on the requirements for lodging of nomination papers.
About 12 Presidential candidates were in attendance at the meeting.
President Banda who is the MMD Presidential candidate arrived for the meeting at about 10.05 hours in the company of MMD chairperson for elections, Gabriel Namulambe.
Opposition Patriotic Front leader Michael Sata was also present at the meeting along with UPND President Hakainde Hichilema National Movement Progress President Ng’andu Magande, UNIP President Tilyenji Kaunda.
Others were Forum Democracy and Development, Edith Nawakwi, National Restoration Party President, Elias Chipimo, New Generation Party President Humphrey Siulapwa, Alliance for Democracy and Development President Charles Milupi and Heritage Party President, Godfrey Miyanda among others.
Meanwhile, Justice Mambilima says the Commission will go ahead and print ballot papers from South Africa.
She says the commission will also invite all participating political parties to send representatives to South Africa to witness the printing ballot papers at the Electoral Commissions expense.
ZNBC
Am told there was drama when Mr sata was advised to stop acting frivolous.Lt give us the details
…..and the least goes on
It appears Cobra Njoka was upset at being told he was being frivolous by HH! This was even an understatement by HH!
On the other hand, it is not even possible to assassinate someone’s character when they have none. Why is Sata not asking the courts to give him an injunction restraining Chanda Chimba? Chanda Chimba only reproduces what was written of sata by his newfound buddies who won all the court cases that sata ever commenced for defamation. What is offensive about what Chanda reports? Maybe we can start there and help this old ngoshe.
I will vote for the General. He is the only Presidential material at least amongst the 12 listed. The rest are just commedians and time wasters if not space. Let us be serious! Zambia needs development not just selfish, grampy old time wasters with colonial mentality. Viva Miyanda but too late no followers! One man army!
The General is always the best choice I do agree.
I know it’s democracy; but 12 aspiring presidential canditates is too much guys…! good idea to sent political parties reps. to go and monitor printing of ballot papers but this should not be hijacked by RB and his MMD fraud-stars!
I’m too wise to start experimenting with mentally sick presidential candidates. My favourite is Charles Milupi, but his party is too small yet and I wish he could team up with HH, but HH is also just beginning to gain a national profile which will only be fully national in readiness for the next elections in 2016. That is why for this election I want to see RB retained as president for another 5 years. People are talking about corruption and stealing as the problems with RB, BUT look at Sata the person they are recommending to replace RB: Sata has already started selling land to foreign countries even before he is in power, what more when he takes over? Secondly, Sata does not have a convincing team. GBM to be minister????? My foot!! RB chabe!!
Please please please, let the aspiring candidates talk about real issues. People in government hospitals are dying all because of selfishness and lack of vision for this country. Visit any government hospital/clinic, it very sad that patients can be subjected to such conditions.I can NEVER vote for MMD but not decided on which other candidate i can vote for. i want someone who will help this country to develop. Those of us who are lucky that our companies can afford to pay for us at any hospital of our choice should always thank God, but that does not mean that we should stop talking for the voiceless and the hopeless.
this guy is truly so talk cheap and cares less about what to say…we need serious minds to run Zambia..tats the way to go 20HH nangu RB11..Sata should not think we owe him but he’s begging form us ..!
12 presidential candidates for a small democracy like Zambia?….eish…we are just going round in circle like in 2001 and you all know what happened.
Thats includes Siulapwa, Of the 12 there only 2 serious contenders PF President and outgoing MMD President
12!!!
HH is a foreigner, I have evidence, both his parents are from Angola. We need to investigate this matter. Only SATA is a true Zambian with traceable roots.
Pabwato…………………….Mwamukolo…………….
What made HH to call Sata of been furvilous instead of Justice Ireen Mambilima. HH grow up. Why didnt Miyanda say that Sata
NI PABWATO ZYAAAAAAAAAAA RB. WE HAVE ALREAD MADE UP OUR MINDS
ha ha ha zambian politics. i do not care who wins.My only concern is linyungambo.Long live Linyungaddambo.
SATAIS FROM TZ A HARDCORE MWACHUSA :-?
Good idea of sending monitors to Durban to monitor ballot printing, hope it will help this time.
VIVA RB he is wining again
I believe as a nation we have all sorts of low life scam bags trying to be leaders, i have always prayed to God to give us a leader with a human heart. I don’t know why we have 12 candidates when only about 5 million people will cast their vote. why can’t we have at least 3 and see how we move, if we don’t put our interest aside we shall see RB winning?
Every one of them expects 417 000 votes? Hmmmmm……….awe pa Zed ndimwe ma gong’a
No sata, no zambia, no election, no peace, no justice. Pabwatooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I place a curse o VJ in the name of Jesus if rigs the elections this year he will face the wrath of the Lord
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in Vain!:-w
The lecture sounds good and hopes these Presidential candidates will change to issue based campaigns FOR A CHANGE
We must have higher qaulifications for one to qaulify as presidential candidate. That way we wont have 12. Maybe 3. 1.Must be a Zambian National. 2 Must be a University graduate 3. Must be above 35 years of age. 4. Must produce 50 supporters from each of the 10 provinces – 500 registerd supporting voters.. That way we will reduce qualifying candidates.
please lets try to be brief those with long easys u will b reading yo selves.
Sata will be our president on 21 September 2001
sense of pride in zambians is ‘power to young people’ NOT to the old.. forward with HH. !ayouth tiye, tilipamodzi ndi mutima umo.. KK days, he was youthful at the time of this song..
It’s true, HH comes from Zaire. His mother is the one from Angola near north westrn province thats why NW is supporting him. We are now left with Sata.
WHO DOTHE FOLLOWING PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE? HH, MIYANDA, MILUPI….AMONG OTHERS?????’ THE RACE IS BETWEEN PF AND MMD, OF WHICH RUPIAH IS NOT A FACTOR BECAUSE UNDER THE CURRENT CONSTITUTION, HE CANNOT STAND. UNLESS THE CHIEF JUSTICE BECOMES SILLY AND ACCEPTS HIS NOMINATIONS WITHOUT PROVING WHETHER HIS PARENTS ARE TRULY ZAMBIANS. PF IS CARRYING THE DAY THIS TIME AROUND. MOST LT BLOGGER ARE VERY DULL INDEED
most bloggers are dull like you

Let Sata show his birth certificate or register from any Zambian hospital or mission proving HE WAS BORN IN MPIKA before this goes any further.
He can show us his PHD at the same time if he has the balls
If the ballot will not change government, I am sure Soldiers are more resolved to change things for us. Normality will come after confusion; though it you ask me, its not the prefered way to change things. Such is the frustration oen can glean from ordinary Zambians. Yes a few generals live very well, but hey the majority are as poor as me; so careful tu educated tuk*l*
There were no birth certs at the time President Sata was born bane; stop wasting time. Precendene has been set; Kaunda was not allowed to stand as president because of the constitution; so Banda afwaye fye ama paper. Else no chance!!
Please read thru what you have written so that you first understand before you expose your ignorance to the wide world. You say there were no birth certificates when Sata was born that is in the 1930’s, so don’t ask him. Â And then Banda should look for his papers, also in the 1930’s, if he is allowed to stand as president. Are you ok mune?
I WAS FOR HH,BUT IT IS LIKE HE HAS LOST IT.OPOSITION PART WORK US ONE AND NOT FIGHT EACH OTHER IN THE EYES OF THE MMD.SUCH WORDS OF HE IS ACTIING LIKE FRIVOLOUS SHOULD HAVE COME FROM THE MMD AND NOT UPND.SAD FOR HH.
#21 Kas – Yes, you are very right Sata will be your president on 21 September 2001!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry I meant #26 – sorry Popopo.
General Miyanda, aha ha ha, I cannot understand certain people, maybe he has some sponsors of his party who dishes him some millions and he enjoys it with his family, by the way, how does he survive? did he steal enough to last him until the end of the world.
u re thats true,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
President Rupiah Banda has continued with his chain of corrupt activities since assuming office three years ago with the latest being the awarding of a K5 trillion housing project to an insignificant company to construct housing units in North Western province.
President Banda, working with one of his sons, has awarded the US$1bn contract to Savenda Management Services. Savenda, owned by a Zambian national, has a track record in providing corporate branded ware such as t-shirts to local companies.
This is the second huge and dubious deal involving State House and the first family in a space of four months following the awarding of a US$98 million contract to some Kenyan business people to refurbish Zambia National Building Society in Lusaka.
My vote is on New Generation Party’s Humphrey Siulapwa.Go HS Go
The General always upsets me and his next move might be to join Siulapwa. Why should he sleep for 5 years and wakes up when there is nomination. I think you can do better than this.
I agree the general should awaken early. He is the best candidate but his advisers leave me wondering. May God bless us in all in Zambia and Abroad. All the time.
I THINK IT SHOLD BE 11 NOT 12 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES
RB CHABE, PERRENTALORIGIN MADNESS HOLDS NO WATER.
12 presidential candidates? R.u.b.b.i.s.h. Most of those presidential candidates are paid by the MMD government to split votes. How sad.
PABWATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, COME RAIN COME SUN SHINE.:)>-
@33, Don’t show your ignorance here. In 1996 Mr Sata organised the same citizenship thing and influenced Dr Chiluba to try and bar Dr Kaunda from standing. Out of frustration Dr Kaunda led UNIP to boycott the elections. However, the matter went to court and the Supreme Court of Zambia ruled that Dr Kaunda was Zambian, was eligible to stand for President of Zambia, and his nomination papers would have been accepted had he lodged them. That is the Zambian constitution as it stands. So when Mr Sata was in government he did not succeed to legally bar Dr Kaunda from standing, what about now with RB?
For the first time in the political career of Mr Sata, he has read the political mood correctly, that he will lose miserably this time.
#1, HH aka anda 5 how can you call SATA frivolous? we know u and MMD ARE ONE
But how did Miyanda get it so wrong as to even deny Zambia the good president in him? His composure, maturity and upright nature is unequalled(by his opponents). We should choose presidents that we can be proud of in terms of:
1. Presentation (general outlook), 2.
Composure and respectability, 3. Respect for the Law, resources and assets of all Zambian people 4. Practical knowledge of the most workable economic, food security, health, education, job creation and public security policies that would best benefit Zambians, AND NOT BASED ON THE NUMBER OF CHITENGES DISTRIBUTED OR HOW BADLY THEY INSULT THEIR OPPONENTS!!
For the sake of those in the rurals, pliz let’s get rid of MMD.clinics are run by cleaners and someone calls that development
General Miyanda for Speaker. Whoever wins must consider this seriously if we want Zambia to progress in its parliamentary service.
SERIOUSLY THERE WERE ONLY 3 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES,THE REST WERE JUST WALKING STICKS OR ESCORTS.MIYANDA DOESN’T KNOW WHAT HE WANTS,FILING NOMINATIONS HAS BECOME A HOBBY FOR HIM.MILUPI,MAGANDE,CHIPIMO,THESE ARE PEOPLE WITH INFLATED EGOS AND HAVE BELIEVED IN THEIR OWN LIES.NO GUESSING FOR SIULAPWAA,WASTE OF SPACE.
BUT SATA IS THE MAIN MAN,RB THE FOOLISH CONMAN AND HH THE VILLAGE LAUGHING STOCK
Twelve!!! Not healthy. We should be having primary elections so that we end up with 2 or 3 candidates in the final round. With 12, it means someone only needs less than 10% votes!! (if others spread the rest of the votes). Then where is the legitimacy of being elected? Zambia, let’s wise up. Constitutional change is key!!!
Sata has screwed pf by accepting a bribe to mess up the opposition. So sad!
The student @ 52, I agree with you, no need for 12 presidential candidates, I also think that for one to aspire for the presidency they should first go through as parliamentary candidates. Some people don’t have a following and are not choosen by the people.
Come on guys we all know that the game is between RB and Sata the rest 10 presidential candidates are useless and will never ever make it to plot one, we all know this. Dont just waste our time.
WE DID NOT NEED TO WATCH ‘STAND UP FOR ZAMBIA’ LAST NIGHT BY CHANDA CHIMB…WE HAD STAND UP COMEDY EXTRAODIARE BY THE STARRING HIMSELF AT MULUNGUSHI!!!!!!!!
Hahahahaha….. the battle is between 2 as usual but this time Ni donchi kubeba……
SataNA u’re no presidential material, just a comedian. Viva Gen. Miyanda, Zambians wake up choose leaders with sober character.
12, Eish! This gives RB to win as it shows confusion from the start. We have said from the beginning that unless our Political Parties unite it will be difficulty to remove MMD from Power. Sorry, I am not a supporter of RB but with such a long list, he is going to win, mark my words!
I have always told the nation and world that Mr Sata MC is an Undereducated man and that is why he could not understand HH’s simple words which he took for an insult. I hope Zambians now understand why HH and UPND could not torelate the nonsense that PF was causing in the Defunct PF-UPND PACT since HH does not entertain the frivolous behaviour of the PF unelected leader MC Sata. It’s only a few days from now and HH is likely to make history that he weaken mr Sata and PF for good.
_
Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all things shall be added unto you.
Behaviour Ba Sata! If this man wins the elections we are in trouble, the man is a bully. How can a president behave like that in front of cameras? Shutting everyone up and the man couldn’t even wait for the question and answer session. LT give us full coverage of Sata’s outbursts please.
Ba Sata behaves like a call boy even in an executive meeting! The man was literally trivial and could not control his emotions…shame on all those who find him inspiring!
There are a lot of time wasters…ECZ should consider increasing the nomination fee to put off the quarks!:-?
No 60 Maestro that word means dont be silly or lacking in intellectual substance and not worth serious consideration so dont support HH for insulting his coleague try to use the dictionary you will see what i mean. English is just a language it has nothing to do with education anyone can speak it.
