Second republican president Frederick Chiluba and wife Regina confer during the Africa Freedom Day celebrations

Late second Republican president Frederick Chiluba’s widow, Regina has said it was her husband’s wish that President Rupiah Banda wins this year’s elections so that he continues the programmes that his Government has started.

And the Chiluba family has thanked President Banda and the Government for the support rendered during the funeral and burial of Dr Chiluba.
In a letter to President Banda dated August 29, 2011, Ms Chiluba said the Chiluba family would continue to support his administration because only he could take the country forward.

“As you know, it was my husband’s wish that you would win this election and continue the great programmes you started in this nation. Only you can steer this nation to continued economic prosperity in peace and stability.

“Your Excellency, we remain behind you, we support your issue-based, violence-free election campaign,” reads the letter in part. She said she had no doubt that President Banda would win the September 20 elections.

Meanwhile, Ms Chiluba has thanked the Government and President Banda for according her husband a dignified funeral. “On my behalf and that of my late husband, Dr FTJ Chiluba’s family I wish to place on record our gratitude for all the material and spiritual support you rendered to us during our bereavement. I also thank you for the tribute you paid to my husband on the day of burial.

“You saw to it that my husband was put to rest in the most dignified manner possible. We are most grateful to you. Your kindness will not go unrewarded. God Almighty will bless you and reward you as it is said in his word,” Ms Chiluba said.

She said President Banda’s selfless acts had brought dignity to her family and the country in general. “Zambians were able to recall and recount the good deeds of my husband while he held the office of second Republican president. Your selfless act further unified this country to what it was known for in the region and in the world, a mature, and peaceful and God fearing nation,” she said.

She said right up to his death, Dr Chiluba appreciated the honour and dignity President Banda had given him. Ms Chiluba said Dr Chiluba was sure that Zambia would attain higher heights with President Banda’s stewardship as he was a visionary and true son of Africa. She also thanked First Lady Thandiwe for consoling her.

“Your visit and counsel consoled me, strengthened me and gave me hope at the time of my deepest sorrow and unhappiness,” she said. Ms Chiluba said the first lady was an inspiration to the women of Zambia.

  1. If wishes were horses even beggers would ride! Indeed, I wish even Chiluba was here (that would be Regina’s dream)! Even RB wishes he will win the elections 2011! Its what is on the ground, the people are saying its time to bow out and remove the ‘horse’ from the dream and wake up!

  2. ba Regina plz,we understand the favour u got from RB,but plz continue mourning ur husband in peace because u dont have any influence in this yr election at all.pipo are saying NO to RB boma.may Dr chiluba soul rest in peace

    • Regina is back with Eddy Mwanza, here former husband who was sacked by Indeni two months back. They together are putting up a very big house at a small holding on the Ndola Kapiri highway.

    • Levy promoted tribalism and nepotism. He was such a polarising president who did not promote national cohesion

  3. Regina has no credibility to talk as a member of Chiluba’s family. She is a Gold Digger and an opportunist. Vera and Chiluba’s 8 children are the ones who should speak. This woman should just go back to her former husband and not to hide in the Chiluba family.

  4. Chiluba would have have WISHED but what are the WISHES of the millions of Zambians who have suffered because of the MMD’s greed and plunder? What are the wishes of the people Chiluba stole from?

  5. May our late former President Chiluba rest in peace. it’s sad that his wish will never come true. We Zambians are saying “OUT BANDA in SATA. It’s time for change. Sorry mama Regina.

  6. Regina Ho, sit down. Your stunk husband had no right for any wishes in this country that he robbed blind.

Go and talk to Chiluba’s children about the Rolex he left you not about who should be Zambia’s president

  7. Chiluba stole alot of money from Zambians, which in turn contributed to the deaths of many of our fellow countrymen and women through his plunder of national resources. His posthumous endorsement of any candidate should therefore, in my opinion, not be celebrated by any well meaning Zambian. Infact, if I was contesting the elections, I would refuse to accept any association with a confirmed thief. I am sorry for the Chiluba family on the loss of FTJ but, it is also important that as a nation, we learn to accept that when the curtain comes down – it is time to leave the stage. The fate of Zambia should not be determined by the late Chiluba’s wishes.

  8. gentlemen she is now looking at RB to marry her when he leaves office on 20th september. Thandiwe you better watch out for regina and your husband movements.

  9. Rubbishmwe! Who really cares what FTJ wished for anyway? That is Regina and her family problem to solve. Chiluba was not Zambia and he did not represent the wishes of the Zambian people hence we do not care about his wishes, abana bakwe and abakashi should care, us we do not care. He wished for many things some of the bad things, so ba Regina stop being a spokes lady for the dead man, lest you mislead us or feed us with lies! Let FTJ rest in peace or else abantu balapontela abayashi! Epompelele nebo!

  10. Iwe Regina of cos yo ka thief husband was respected because he was president thats it….now we want to see your next move..we know u are a gold digger! Rabbish Bin has stolen enough already go get him after 20th September, his a rich bustard

  11. Iwe Regina of cos yo ka thief husband was put to rest with respect because he was president that’s it….now we want to see your next move..we know u are a gold digger! Rubbish Bin has stolen enough already go get him after 20th September, his a rich bustard

  12. This solemn message from Regina Chiluba carries more weight in as far as the people of Luapula have come to know the true nature of Sata. This Mwachusa has exhibited the worst form of cruelity which he has been harbaouring against the people of Luapula. Our culture compels us to attend the funeral of all neighbours, whether the dead were friendly or hostile. But Sata’s demonstration of his refusal to attend the funeral of FTJ, who gave him many Ministerial posts, is totally ALIEN in Zambia. Come 20th September, the people of Luapula will respond to Sata’s cruelity appropriately. He dare not float his boat in dangerous waters of Lakes Mweru and Bangweulu.

    • To all Zambians not only people living in Luapula. And Sata’s refusal comes solely from your mouth. No mention in the story. In the past b4 they become he Sata promised the peolpe of luapula to free Chiluba if elected as president. If u felt unhappy to what sata did, well it is up to you and those in Luapula.. BUT a republican president should be elected on merit and majority vote win, Accepted by many Zambians not only those in specificaly provinces.. Final Believe in our Motto One Zam One Nation :)

  13. Who is Regina to lecture on who to vote for? If you were the wishes of all Zambians, we would worry to our bone that Banda will continue after 20th. But alas, you are also looking at the possibility of you getting back to jail because the Zambian people in collaboration with Mutembo Nchito and Maxwell Nke have got a bone to chew with you after the 20th. Where on Earth did you see every tree in zambia with a flag or mmd chitenge? Not even in the Western World. Kabonde, Kayukwa and all thoz security chiefs who went on the TV for the first time in the history of the World denouncing in coming President, will go to jail. Bamambala imwe.

  14. All court cases that Rupiah presided on and over will be going back to Court in November this year after our able President Sata finish filling in all that cabinet and government positions. So watch bonse bakabwalala. Mutembo Nchito and Maxwell Nkole pliz be ready for your lost positions as we still need your services. PF nga yawina, nibwelela ku Zed so that I go and take up my rightful position in the Zambian politics.

  15. #17, Why should Sata attend Chiluba’s funeral? His own relatives refused to have a postmoterm so who knows what killed the lumpen? Whatever it was it could be very contegious and given the fragile state of Sata’s health Dr Kaseba rightly advised Zondwe to skip the funeral. As for Regina, who gives a damn about a dead thief’s wishes? The chaps is now frying in hell married to Chiwa, good!

  16. We all know that was his wish and thats why he campaigned for RB. I dont see why people should insult her for saying the obvious

  17. thieves always support another thief who cleared them…

but Time is running out and all of them are going to go to jail thanks to PF… :-)

Zambia court clears Regina Chiluba in corruption case

Zambia’s high court has overturned the corruption conviction of the wife of the country’s former president, Frederick Chiluba.
The judge said the state had failed to show that Regina Chiluba had illegally obtained state funds while her husband was in office.
She was found guilty last year by a lower court of receiving $300,000 (£200,000) of property and money.
It had sentenced her to three-and-an-half years in prison.
Her husband had said the charges were part of a witch hunt against him.

  18. continued

In August, a Zambian court refused to enforce the ruling of a British judge who had ordered Mr Chiluba to pay back $46m he allegedly stole during his 1991 to 2001 presidency.
He was also acquitted of criminal charges stating he had siphoned off nearly $500,000 of public funds.
The Zambian branch of the anti-corruption group Transparency International criticised the overturning of Mrs Chiluba’s conviction and questioned the government’s commitment to fighting corruption.
