Police in Lusaka are investigating Former Finance Minister, Situmbeko Musokotwane for allegedly using public funds to procure over one thousand bicycles.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ndandula Siamana says police have so far confiscated hundreds of bicycles from Dr Musokotwane’s residence in Lusaka west.

Ms Siamana has told ZNBC News in Lusaka that police suspect public funds could have been used to buy the bicycles.

Ms Siamana could not state what the bicycles were used for but says a statement is yet to be taken from the Former Finance Minister.

  2. apart from this, what else were these people enganged in?
please continue digging deeper cos i think the mmd govt is stained with corruption to its core. i trusted musokotwane, but with this……..

  3. I can but just shake my head…… How life can change overnight is really scary?  It is a lesson to all of us that the hand that protects you can prosecute you tomorrow?

  4. ama jinga? of all the things? what for? batata ba Situmbeko kanshi filya fine bamoneka balipwalala efyo bapwalala na mukutontonkaya. How coud we let these dull people rule us for 3 yrs mwe bantu mwe?

  5. THATS GREAT THE POLICE ARE NOW DOING THEIR JOB ,PLEASE IG BRING ALL THESE PLUNDERS TO BOOK AND CAGE THEM AS THEY HAVE STOLEN ENOUGH FROM THE POOR ZAMBIANS AND PLEASE BA IG ALSO PROBE SOFT BUTTOCKS, I MEAN DORA SILIYA AS THIS LADY HAS ALSO AQQUIRED A LOT OF WEALTH AND I BELIEVE SHE HAS BOUGHT A VERY BIG MANSION IN SOUTH AFRICA FROM THE MONEY SHE PLUNDERD FROM SELLING OF ZAMTEL AND ALSO FROM THE CONTRACT SHE MADE WITH SOME ITALIAN COMPANY FOR THE PURCHASE OF RADAR SYSTEM FOR K.K.INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AS WELL AS HARRY NKUMBULA AND SIMON KAPEPWE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. THERE ARE MANY MORE PLUNDERERS THATS NEEDS CAGING BWANA IG.

  6. I would like to pat the polic on the back, but I hasitate. This was common knowledge among junior civil servants and even some police officers knew that MMD were using public funds to procure campaign materials, including cars and bicycles. The police did nothing. Even now I am sure they are acting on orders from PF. Things will only change when the constitution makes it impossible for the president to sack the Inspector General of Police. The Police service should be broken up into regional forces and each force should be led by an elected Police Chief, who is only answerable to the electorate.

  7. arrest the bastard, these are the people who thought public money was theirs and they could do whatever they wanted with it.

  8. Had MMD won the elections, would you have done what you just did? Hypocrites and partisan police officers nowonder you failing the Zambian public immensely… Any way. good luck to you.

  9. Zambia Police please be professional in your dealings. Only a st.u.pi.d Police organisation like ZP goes public with what or who it is investigation. Dont forget people are presumed innocent till proven guilty. Your former colonial masters dont reveal the identity of the person who they are investigating until such a time a person is charged with a crime. You are too presumptious you people! Musokotwane has a 1000 bicycles at his home…..He therefore used public Funds! Taiwanese and Afghanis after all are also in the business of funding campaigns!

  10. Election year and the chap has just won as MP in Liuwa constituency and you still wonder what he was doing with bicycles. This should be interesting as the investigation reveals the extent to which the MMD went to in trying to buy back the vote. I see many byelections in the very near future

  11. Well done Siamana; this is what should be the job of the police. In fact, those are only a few of many thousand bicycles which were distributed to MMD supporters all over the country at the expense of the Zambian people. Keep on with the investigations and let them realise that we are tired of selfish leaders who always want to uplift their own lives at the expense of the Zambian majority. MMD leaders involved in any corrupt and theft issues need to be brought to book for having betrayed the Zambian people during their time in office whatsoever!! These people are put in public offices to work for the public and as such the law must take its course for any abuse of public resources.

  12. Hundreds of bicycles! From former finance Minister? Is that worth the headlines to be singing about when you claim there are high levels of corruption? We want to see more details on the K4 billion scandal that Mr President unearthed! That is the detail that will vindicate Sata’s actions….

  13. Sata is definitely taking Zambia forward despite the few mistakes he might be making – he is in fact human just like anyone else…Viva Sata – Viva PF

  14. Wait until the whole truth comes out. RBs sons were even appointing devotees and fans to Zambias overseas missions. The cost of recalling these unqualified creeps will be enormous to Zambia. I personally know of about 8 hangons in tanzania, malawi, ethopia, germany and uk.

  15. Maestro HheHheHhe………. and Nafuti Nafuti are quite these days. Anyone who knows their whereabout??? Why have they stopped blogging?? Come on guys continue blogging. I am sure you are mourning of under5 HH is unanimous defeat. Just encourage to work smarter this time around and who knows, may be 2021 could his?? Alias Chipimo Jnr is also coming hot! Plus don’t those from King Cobra Political Academy i.e. Given Lubinda, Wynter Kabinda, Kambwili, Miles Sampa etc. HH will have a mammoth battle to fight. By then he will be aged 60. And old fellow indeed. Viva pa Bwato. Fuel price has gone down within 90 days!!!

  16. @its a worry .Do not worry my friend.Do the math. The headline is worth it.Take for example, an eagle bike typical of a village bicycle costs about K200000 and a total of 5000 bikes where distributed all over. You have about K1000000000 which is worth to talk about if the source of funds is obscure.Have a good day

  17. #21,
    1) My advice to you is, forget the past and lets move on.Let’s support the govt. of the day.REMEMBER ,WHEN THE PF GOVT. SUCCEEDS ,THE ALL OF ZAMBIA WILL BENEFIT.
    2) 2016 is still very far, only the lord knows.NO ONE CAN SAY FOR SURE 100% WHO WILL BE PRESIDENT. WE CAN ONLY MAKE ASUMPTIONS.THATS FINE AND YOU ARE ENTITLED TO YOUR OWN OPINION.
GOD BLESS THIS GREAT NATION OF ZAMBIA!
    ONE ZAMBIA! ONE NATION!

  18. I’m just waiting for the police to arrest the chief Honcho the one and only BUFFOON RB…I will light up my favourite Cohiba Cuban Cigar when that day comes!!

  19. # 29 Jay Jay. ………and sip a nice Single Malt. Besides it is bought from OUR hard earned money not CORRUPTION.

  20. PF has not yet learnt lessons of embarassments on errors of lapses, ommission, commission, impulse and law breaking. this is really petty, petty, petty. PFgovt. will at some future date be a laughing and shamefull institution to be associated with. Establish truth, then tell it to the nation.

  21. MMD under Rupiah, the half-term disgraced former president has done immesurable damage to the countrty and the situation could have been a catastrophy had these MMD criminals succeded in rigging their way to victory in the just ended elections.
Let us remain calm and supprt the new GRZ as they work to clean up Zambia.

  22. BO MUSOKOTWANE BUSHE PHD MWAKWATA YA KWIBA AMAGINGA NEFYUMA FYA CHALO? BA MPOMBO BALIMWEBELE ATI MUKASHANA PELETE MWALETI KALIMO KWANGALA.

  23. It`s me today, it`s you tomorrow. Problem is the Police toll the line of the party in power. To be credible, they need to show  Professionalism and impartiality by commensurably  prosecuting  and persecuting culprits  both in the ruling and opposition parties.

  24. People keep saying MMD under Rupiah did massive damage! Where? Please show us? Because as far as the eye can see under RB the economy grew faster than its ever done! The country’s foreign reserves grew larger than they ever had. The country saw more investment coming in than ever. So the reality is quite the opposite. Where there flaws in that regime, of course. But lets use our language fairly. The recent MMD government did very well economically. Don’t just speak unless you’ve got empirical evidence like stats to back up your claims.

  25. Confiscating just on suspicion does not sound right, how sure is she that she will get to the bottom of the matter. otherwise just return ama jinga if you have nothing to implicate the man.

  26. #41 & #42, In his farewell speech RB said ”We never knowingly abused state funds” and 2 days later he said, ” I know I will be arrested and and sent to jail”. Last weeks dozens of vans used by the MMD were impounded by police who are investigating how they were acquired, now it’s bicycles. Now what evidence and statistics do you want and also remember that it is within the law for the police to confiscate what they believe has been acquired unlawfully. The MMD was corrupt and that’s the reason the people said enough was enough.

  27. Number 43, no one just takes something without solid evidence- not hearsay. If the police were doing this on merit they would follow proper leads and actually use evidence to confiscate these things. So far there has been zero evidence. Its clear that this is a witch hunt, in addition they want to cripple its ability to campaign in the next elections. This is 100% politically motivated. Also I wouldn’t trust anything the Post report, their recent managing editor is now a PS in the PF government, of course these guys have been working together to paint the worst possible picture.

  28. #43 Follow facts of #41 Thoughts. Solid points that hinge on justice. If any offence is established police, CIDs and courts are there under PF govt to determine course of acton. Not hearsay or what Banda said ( perhaps warning to Zambians of vindictiveness of Sata which been proved). MMD has registered growth of Zambian economy with evidence of up reserves. Here is a dose for you. Decision to return Finance bank back to Mahtani is not highly questionable but immoral. Mahtani finance bank in Malawi was closed up due to money laundering and blacklisted from doing business in that country. BOZ have all facts of money laundering by Mahtani to BOZ besides other things was economic sabotage to Zambia. Sata can’t be competent on bank issues but who can speak to him – Dictators don’t listen.

  29. Data data data imwe nizii. Let him tell the nation why he bought those bicycles using public funds. And thousand bicycles for what?

  30. Maybe he was trying to start a cycling club in Lusaka west. This guy is one of the dullest PhD’s out there. This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what is yet to be recovered. RB & Sons Ltd will have to account for all their misdeeds.

  31. You are my Choice of MMD President after Rupiah!
    why?
    1. Best performing Minister of Finance since MMD took over; Brains behind Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper and National Planning; Special Economic Advisor and Lecturer!
    2. Very courageous-spoke when others fearing-leadership is about going beyond personal interests
    3. First to be questioned by police-This is how the road/journey to the Throne is. You have to be given such lessons and Testing. I hope no one breaks your resolve to serve! This phase is not personal!

  32. Does dr. Musokotwane run a bicycle business? Or is he the Emelda Marcos of bicycles? Or, were these supposed to ferry around MMD members during the elections?

Inquiring minds want to know. :)

  33. If public funds were used to buy the bycycles let them be used as government property by the agriculture extension officers and the village health workers. Another topic LT please.

  34. RB DID A WONDERFUL JOB….Just look at how zambia has developed and if he stole so what. Dont hate the player hate the game.

  35. RB fan you are an *****.Zambians are suffering because of RB and company who only stole and did minor projects to deceive Zambians. President Sata well done!

  36. #51. You are right its the game that is dirty. RB and the dull former finance minister were just playing the dirty game by following its dirty rules. Its #9 who is talking about nyele and not #8. So ba #20 you have your target wrong. I think nyele is also good after all we all need nyele to produce improved Zambians who will be less corrupt than these bicycle thieves. Imwe banthu where is KaMushota. I hear she is good in bed; they say kalilowa sana. Ni pa internet apa ka, maybe Mushota is a kamonk.
Its amazing how someone with a PHD can be used in corrupt activities. The man has all the money and only to be embarrassed with RBs dirty bicycle tactics.
By the way I think RB cheated on Dora and Chipata Central votes. He made sure that Mangani was out of the race in Chipata. I end he

  37. Is it an offence /corruption for a Policeman/woman to own a Toyota canter? I do not think so especially that Policemen even go for UN assignments and creative ones run farms and business. Therefore, indicator of corruption as put it a certain editorial has failed in middle income nation. Abashi UNIP Poverty mentality!
Can a person buy hundred bicycles or more from gratuity at Deputy Bank of Zambia level? Yes! Take care you might be dealing with innocent people!

  38. @Thoughts. You amaze me .Do really know what drives Zambia’s economy. What export commodity contributes more to the GDP? When commodity price goes up for that how wlll be the reflection on the economy? Why do many investors take risks in investing in it in order to rip more as its price goes up? Imagine if we got more from it? How many projects in our country will complete? Say what it is and get back to me

  39. I am still in shock!!! Maestro Hehehehe can you help me with this?Usually when the culrpit is a Musonda then ALL Bembas are…???

  40. “Situmbis”, even if it is stealing in high office, why bicycles?? A fleet of Mercedes cars at least would define your tastes & desires, nomba nchinga, ala cha musebanya! ( bicycles?? it is really embarrassing!) Well, maybe, they were top of the range carbon-fibre core mountain bikes & road racers!!! Pa sopo, “Tour de France”, here we come!!!!

  41. There is no evidence that he used govt money, why do you judge him just because he was in the last government. Your story of the Taiwaneese is now quiet because you are in power, it will also come out when you leave power, so to those in PF who are in good health and live that long watch out, most of the high ranking will be dead anyway and they may not answer to such charges. Musokotwane and Fundanga had good international jobs, I wish they had not joined politics.

  42. Siulapwa should be the last person to talk about partnering with the current ruling party. He thought MMD would win the last elections to give him a job! Shame. He uttered alot of silly things against Mr. Sata together with Mumbi. Let him mute.

  43. I wonder why people are getting agitated, if the bicycles amongst others were procured in a straight forward manner, surely MMD etal have nothing to fear. The police are merely doing their jobs, if Musokotwane has a case to answer, then they will tell us. No one said he is a thief, he is merely a suspect as are all the others until proven guilty by a court of law, the law provides for the questioning of suspects and the law of evidence applies to every citizen, former politicians and current alike. We shall wait for that statement. Its not personal. Its business.

  44. IAM GREATLY EMBARASSED BY THIS DR MUSOKOTWANE.MWASEBENYA HILLCREST
TECHNICAL SECONDARY SCHOOL,THE SCHOOL I AND YOURSELF WENT TO.NINSHI KANSHI SINKING SO LOW?
