Konga claims Parliament bought his seized Hummer

Share

Kenneth Konga

MMD Chavuma Member of Parliament Kenneth Konga yesterday said that the Hummer police seized from his Kabulonga residence was acquired using the money Members of Parliament get from Parliament for car loans.

QFM News reports that Mr Konga revealed this in parliament today when asked vice president Guy Scott to tell the house whether the money the National Assembly gives MPs for car loans is stolen money for Police to seize his vehicle.

The vehicle was seized following a nine hours search police conducted at Mr Konga’s Kabulonga residence yesterday.

A combined team of investigators from the Zambia Police, Anti Corruption Commission and Drug Enforcement Commission also seized two motorcycles from the former minister’s residence.

  1. What limit is the loan for members?
Looks like when some ask to buy a car they need the best in a country where people starve others live in luxury

    • But whats wrong with someone buying the most expensive car if he has got the money…if you are poor, accept let those with money do want they feel like…its theirs.

  2. It is easy to think from the title of the article that after his hummer was seized, parliament bought it. The insertion of “money” after parliament could clarify things.

  3. Imwe its ze Mule who can drive around with 2 vehicles, the Police are waiting for instructions from H.E on whether they can seize the vehicles

  4. Police are not working professionally but have resorted to witch hunting. To avoid embarrasment just return the man’s vehicle if you have no evidence of any mischief he has committed.

  5. PF government is cheap. How can you impound a $20,000 worth vehicle from someone who was earning far much more than that amount. This is witch-hunt at its worst. Please find a life and stop harassing people. Is that all you can do in 90 days? Shame on you!

  6. Parliamentarians get a 5 year car loan of $65,000 which they may redeem for a duty free vehicle. The effect of this is that they may collect a car worth up to $130,000 from a showroom. Hence the Nissan Patrols, Range Rovers, Jeeps etc.

  7. Mwata Konga do not waste time talking about fools. Just inform chief Ndungu and others at home for that POWERFUL LIGHTENING or make them disappear for life. Many chaps with tuntemba are driving Hammers all over Zambia, why Mr Konga only? Mr Chilala has a plane, PF go and seize we see. UBUTUTU BWEKABWEKAFYE.

  8. Kwena ci country ici, awe mwe. Hospitals are like dump sites but we still find money to lavish these fat hyenas.

  9. Ladies d Gentlemen if you need a New Car a hummer,Austin Martin or Benz become a member of Parliament because you wont even pay to bring the Vehicle in the Country that is not enough the Loan you wont have to pay back free Money to jack the power.Zambia a Paradise for Politicians who raise from poverty to wealth.

  10. The story is incomplete. Anyway its ok i will never come back to zambia, the country is cursed. reason why Mushota apontela on this blogg.bye bye polio too much drama.

  11. Serves him right. Others that have embezzled should be brought to justice. National assembly surely didn’t issue a loan for an expensive vehicle like that. Besides if they spent that money on the roads they would then be driving ferraris no big 4x4s.

  12. konga chikala chobbe, how irresponsible and fuucked up u are, a hammer?????? how many times did you use the same to visit you constituency???? *****

  13. Konga don’t provoke people by getting a Hummer! Stupid decision especially with this government of Kaponyas who are mentally non stable and have infiriority complexes.

  14. @16 sorry, didn’t do my calculations right, actually its very affordable,  $40, 000 equivalent to 200 million kwachas, so stop the witch hunting ba PF!!!!

  15. I feel sorry for the police. They may want to do a professional job but then they have to appease their boss Sata. It is most likely that they do not enjoy what they are doing, for how else one can explain what has been gping on since the Cobra ascended to the political power? I think parliament should impeach this man. He does not look or act normal.

  16. With a base price that’s over $33,000 maybe upto around $42,000. The Hummer H3 is one of the most expensive SUVs in its class — even when compared to other off-road SUVs. However a second hand one you can get it even at around $23,000.00. I think any parliamentarian can afford buying a car of this nature. Its just people who have overrated a Hummer after all its not that expensive for an MP. What is $42,000 in Kwacha term; its just around K210m and parliamentarians have been giving themselves a lot of loans and hefty gratuities and they cannot fail to buy cars like Hummers. This is a problem when you have illiterate police service or should we say presidents who think a Hummer costs lifetime cash. I end here!

  17. Buying a hammer on a loan in Zambia with all those fuel prices and almost 100% interest rates is total waste of money…That car is pure consumption nothing else.Honestly, we are screwed as a country having people of this nature in leadership positions.

  18. This new word that some Zambians have just learned will cause problems. Expand your vocabulary. Witch-hunt is not such a big word of which one can be so proud of knowing. It is not symbolic of being highly learned. Witch-hunt witch-hunt. Which hunt? Is this the biggest word you have learned so far in English? Let me teach you a new word. Its not such a big word either, but for those fixated on “witch-hunt” its a great improvement. NEMESIS: 1) Classical Mythology . the goddess of divine retribution.
    2) an agent or act of retribution or punishment.

  19. By the way, this bugger is MP for Chavuma. What is he doing in Kabulonga? And then they blame PF and 90 days for under-development in North-Western province.

  20. Ok Konga can afford the Hummer as a politician. These vehicles are fuel guzzlers with most of them being 6 litre engines. The simple solution to stop importation of these vehicles is to introduce a massive road tax and MOT because these vehicles are causing heavy air pollution. These ministers should be setting good examples by driving small carbon friendly car such as hybrid electric cars. Do these wankers know anything about carbon foot print? Konga, it is not the question of being able to afford, but law makers should also be responsible for the environment.. This government should serious look at the use of luxury SUVs and limit their importation. If you need the use of SUV try the Land Rover 110. Affordable, reliable and very appropriate for rural use…. Not a LEXUS, or BMW X5!!!!

  21. What a joke.Hospiatals have no equipment, dying patients are asked to pay for treatment and doctors expenses.where does the money come from to buy Hammers?Zambians think before you vote. dont waste your vote on your tribes men.

  22. Thats why they lost elections, whether the Hummer is expensive or not, its about the morality of failing to get beds in hospitals, do roads, dress the uniformed civil servants and yet Ministers with fat diabetic stomachs are buying such vehicles and think we are stupid. May God deliver your selfihness and greedness – unequal distribution of wealth. We support the move let investigations be done. You buy Hummers and fail to buy ambulances to help people, no cars for police/prisons, no settling in allowances, you took people for granted, and you justfying the buying of such vehicles I know you dont work as civil servants and dont live in shanties, you dont know what levels of poverty was in Zambia amidist plenty. dont you wonder why the chaps lost miserably despite heavily funding their

  23. #28 It is not only the cost we are talking about, ba guy ba Captain Solo. It is the carbon foot print these huge engines leaves, especially in a resource poor country like Zambia. Even in Europe, owing petrol guzzlers is no longer fashionable, especially if you are a law maker. Is Konga a rock star or a footballer or a CEO of a big company? No he is a law maker dealing with laws such as protecting the environment from toxic fumes from a HUMMER SUV..Wake up Solo we are not all fools!!!

  24. Guy buys Hummer, the whole President and his gullible supporters start complaining. What a cheap country and its people, people need exposure.I just hope foreigners are not accessing this website otherwise they may change how they think of poor Zambia.

  25. Some bloggers are such disappointments, they want to praise the thieving hynas, a hummer si not cheap if you are using government money, its ok if he had used his hard earned money but the fools give themselves too much money and with no work at all, nothing to show, comeon guys, lets be fair people are suffering and dying.

  26. The question is; Did Konga steal to buy the hummer.. If he did not morality of buying a hummer is illerelevant. If he can afford what is your or police problem.. Guys we are being trivial…

  27. Its clear to see that most of the bloggers on here are unexpossed and most are stuck in foreign countries working junk jobs.. A Hummer is equivalent to junk as Africa is a dump-site because last time I checked General Motors stopped manufacturing the car, so get ur facts right before opening ur big gob and showing ur ignorance..

  28. The MPs get car loans from parliament every 5 years and the amounts are quite high. That is the reason you see those that have been MPs for more than 15 years have more cars . It is for this reason that most of them foght to be MPs, because it is almost free money. You can be a parliamenterian without even contributing to debates and still be entitled to most things. Ask Mwansa Kapeya and others, or ask Sylvia Masebo why she always wants to be an MP.Most MPs are failed businessmen who want to make a fast buck without working. Their gratuities are so high ,an equivalent to institutionalised theft.
By the way, I live two blocks from a motor dealer in Orlando and only yesterday I saw a Hummer 3 selling for $9 000. Those things are cheap now because they are guzzlers, no one wants them.

  29. here in the UK people do not like Hummers or any other ‘Chelsea tractors’ (4X4s because they are guzzlers) and infact the road tax for such cars is around £500 per year while you only pay £20/ year for fuel efficient cars like the new beema 3 series diesel.

  30.  i own a hummer They  are only 80  to 90 000 dollars. Very fuel guzzling very powerful  very good to drive very suitable for roadlless countries like DRC Zambia  etc

  31. Come on guys a hammer if you have the right connections you can get a h2 for about $15,000.00 or less shipping it will cost about $1,850 to $3,000 depending on the vessel and h3 can even be found for $10,0000 cast so whats all this talking like someone bought a Bantley give the dude back his hummer.

  32. They sale hummers here very cheap. They are no longer on the market. There is even a sale buy one hummer H3 and get one free. They are going at $12, 000 at GMC.

  33. This a standard procedure in Zambia. The price of Hummer is not different from other vehicles that ministers and MPs, including Sata, have driven since 1991. This is victimization… and dangerous, very dangerous. Sata should know that he will leave State House, if he will still be alive, very old. You don’t want someone to throw you in prison in your 80s, sir. You want to finish the opposition, but you’re destroying democracy sir.

  34. Its immoral to drive a hammer in Zambia in what ever position you look at it. Worse still to claim bought from govt money. Here in the UK which is more civilised with more wealthy people, those who drive a hammer have to account for it. Konga comes from the least developed areas in Zambia. He can’t blame govt for that and should look the people he represents as a servant to them. Voted for him to drive a hammer?, and show them that he is better off than them? Konga is really immoral to talk back to Zambians as he does. Let him account for his riches and sieze all he acquired if no satisfactory explaination offered. That is the duty of state and it applies to everyone found wanting. Well done PF govt.

  35. The matter here is not how much the Hummer is but how it was acquired. A poor country like Zambia should not condone stealing by anyone whether a politician or anyone. Everyone should be made to account for any ill-gotten wealth. If a rich country like Canada can make noise about a minister getting a lift on a helicopter, what about us?

  36. TAKE IT EASE KONGA MAN, UZAKAMBA KUSOGOLO!!! WHY TAKE THAT PERSONAL ISSUE TO PARLEY? YOU SHOULD TELL THAT TO THE PIPO INVESTIGATING YOU AND PROVE TO THEM THE SOURCE OF MONEY FOR YOUR LAVISH, POSH VEHICLE(s). NEITHER GUY SCOT NOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC IS INTERESTED IN YOUR UNNECESSARY JUSTIFICATIONS. IF THE MONEY CAME FROM THE ENERGY DEPT. WHERE YOU WERE IT WILL BE KNOWN. WE ARE WATCHING!!!!

  37. This country is haunted by kafupi and his evil deeds. Zambia is now a curse. We have inherited this curse of looting shamelessly and shamelessly forgot about the poor.

  38. Those whose relatives were in the MMD are crying for Konga here. Some Zambians with an  Inferiority complex don’t even know GM stopped making hummers. The problem is not Konga, it’s the 300% pay increment and $ 65 000 car loan with option to own that’s the issue that’s just wrong.

  39. Ba@14 Mwiponta Mukabwela you atre a full and a coward. Us maybe had better qualifications than you but have remained in this lovely country and enjoying its fruits. Iam a chartered certified accountant and nicely succeeding. This country needs everyone of you people who are economic refugees in other countries. THIS COUNTRY IS VERY WONDERFUL AND IT GIVES OPPORTUNITIES TO THOSE WHO CAN SEE THEM; BUT THE CORWARD ALWAYS RUN AWAY WHEN THEY ARE FACED WITH PROBLEMS. SO MR. MWIPONTA MUKABWELA DON’T PONTA BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING. WISHING YOU THE BEST CHRISMAS. I AM CURRENTLY HAVING A NICE WINE AFTER THE DAYS HARD AND INTERLLIGENT WORK.
