Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED) President Fred Mutesa has observed that the Patriotic Front government’s fight against corruption will be in vain if the right channelS are not followed.

Dr. Mutesa said that the fight against corruption should not merely be a matter of accusing people of corruption without producing tangible evidence of the allegations.

He says the Patriotic Front government should fight corruption in a more professional manner by allowing investigative wings to carry out their functions freely rather than rushing to make unsubstantiated allegations in the media.

Dr. Mutesa says the PF government should fight corruption in a right way because Zambians believe in justice and fair play.

He tells QFM that being the head of State does not give President Michael Sata any powers to accuse people of wrongdoing without proper evidence.

The ZED president has since advised the PF government to let investigative wings in the country to investigate matters, and if there is enough evidence take the matters to court for the culprits to be prosecuted.

  1. Great points indeed. Checks and balances, let me put that out there before euphoria enfused bloggers arrive.

  2. Well said. How can we have a whistle-bower for a President? Imagine Obama having a briefing at White House and all hed does is accuse former republican officials of all sorts of allegations without substance. Can Americans take that lightly?Separation of powers pls.Only PF cadres can excited and I know just like everyone that this fight is going nowhere and even the donors know that its not genuine given the character of sata and that it is a copycat form LPM to win donor support. They(donors) are not dull.Thats why the International media does not cover the allegations cos they are baseless. They have reputations to preserve,

  3. This is exactly what all of us patriotic and democratic rational actors are lecturing to these lazy incensed job seeking PF cadres who resort to vacuous threats and insults without ability to intelligently defend the circus.

  4. Ba Citizen when RB accussed the post and mutembo nchito of stealling 30million USD what did you say apart from supporting RB? Double standards indeed

  5. Let me add my voice to what Dr. Mutesa has said. This is the kind of opposition that we need in this country not blind followers or job seekers. Offer constructive criticism and advise accordingly. well sais indeed Dr.

  6. The fight against corruption also needs to be about more than prosecution of wrongdoers.

To be effective in the long-run we need to see new procedures and stronger institutions that prevent corruption from rearing its ugly head again. It will be a good trick to pull this off, but is ultimately more important to improve the future than to correct the past.

  7. This is very true and must be supported. BUT, why is the author and other bloggers not supporting people who have gone thru the due process of the law and have been CLEARED of alleged corruption and have even been state witnesses helping the state to prosecute wrong, corrupt elements.

So I agree with #7. Mutembo Nchito and the Post were accused and people were blindly supporting RB. A case in point right now is that of Dr Simon Miti who for three years has gone thru the due process of the law and has been cleared. Why is the author and other bloggers not supporting his reinstatement as Ambassador, but instead doing the opposite! What type of Double Stardards are these?? Is that justice and fair play?  We must protect the integrity of people. Mutembo and Dr Miti are not exceptions!!

  8. So called intellectuals cant win an election pa Z coz they are just too theoretical….pipo on the street do not understand those macro or micro economic issues…be straight forward!

  9. ZED President will be next president in 2016, he is a very educated man and in the right field i remember at UNZA he taught me Development studies, very articulate and to the point not these Kaponya’s we have in the name of Cobra

  10. Thats right Dr Mutesa.Probably King Cobra needs to attend night school to learn basic things. For example, the cobra questioned Nevers Mumba’s stay at a hotel when it is general knowledge that any returning diplomat is supposed to be accomodated for a few days by the government. He also misled the nation that Dr Mumba was on the Copperbelt when infact the man was just a few kilometres from State House. Be professional, you can not fight corruption by engaging in careless talking.

  11. Ba #15 :Politics and education do not mix at all in zambia. Most of the educated men and women who have entered the political arena have ended up messing their lives too much theory sometimes can be dangerous, case in point Dr Katele Kalumba,Dr Kashiwa Bulaya very soon Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane will join them in the courts as well.Over the years i have been on earth have discovered alot of people who are good at theory are never good in practical work, this is what has lead to alot of our so called educated men and women always heading to the courts after coming out of office into the opposition.Just saying ,

  12. I find it oxymoron that some PFgovt argue the fight on corruption should be the centre stage above eveything else and at the core necessity of development in the country. As said before Mr Sata was part of corruption when MMD came into power. He once was the right hand man of Chiluba the architect of corruption. Zambians have moved on and are looking for development from their leaders. Mr Sata can not define development by spebding 100 days accusing former leaders and creating fatigue to people’s expectations. As Dr Mutesa states, we are all agreed that corruption should be fought with all the zeal in a professional manner through investigative wings. Let the president rely on these organs and give himself to spell out the vision of development and change Zambians voted for than news.

  13. Yes well said but you forgot one thing….let the law take its course for all who assumed plunderers. All thieves must face the law and those found wanting be jailed period.

  14. On the money. I totally agree with you Dr Mutesa. By the way your elder brother does not use the ‘U’ (Ambassador Love Mtesa) any reasons? Yes.

    • The spelling difference was Love Mtesa’s preference… he we went with how the name is pronounced…The U is ignored in pronounciation. He is the only one in the family that spells it that way. even Love Mtesa’s son Dr Chilao Mutesa spells it with the U. I am an insider.

  15. Right Mutesa.
But also not just accusations as in case of RB, but most important the way cases end. what happened with LIATO with his cash?

  16. Nobody would have invested anything in Zambia if they knew in advance that somebody(Sata) would expropriate his investments. If Sata and his colleagues  have decided to grab Zamtel, they will grab sun hotels because HH was involved in the privatisation.  Sata and his cabinet of illiterates are creating a system of expropriation of foreign capital, and I dare say that this direct expropriation will take Zambia back 30 years. Do these lunatics understand what they are doing?

  17. These words are a quote from a ministry of commerce website. Why Sata breaking the law on Zamtel?
“The Investment Act of 1993 states that investments may not be expropriated unless parliament has passed an act relating to the compulsory acquisition of that property, in which event full compensation at market value and free transfer to the funds is guaranteed. Investment in the stock market is protected by the Securities Act of 1993. Zambia is a member of MIGA. In case of disputes, arbitration may be sought through the Zambia High Court, ICSD or UNCITRAL.”

  18. What the Northern province task force has done should be replicated in all provinces. Arrest all corrupt senior civil servants not just politicians

  19. MMD cadres are the last to give us governance tutorial in Zambia. What do you expect to have red lipped Kunda & geriatric balls RB. Bitter losers.
