Kunda is Africa’s most incompetent lawyer – Sata

Republican President Michael Sata has charged that former vice president George Kunda is the most incompetent lawyer on the Africa continent.

And President Sata has dared Mr Kunda to sue him over the appointment of Dr. Guy Scott as Republican Vice President.

Featuring on Radio Phoenix’s Let the People Talk programme in Lusaka this morning, Mr. Kunda questioned the legality of Dr. Scott as republican vice president if he cannot act as president in the absence of President Sata.

But President Sata says Mr. Kunda is welcome to petition the courts of law over the appointment of Dr. Scott.

“George Kunda is the dullest lawyer in the world. George is so dull he is biting his own tongue,” President Sata said. “If I had appointed Guy Scott as acting President what George Kunda is saying would have been valid.”

“But because he is so dull I can’t hire him, we are waiting for him, let him go to court…we will mince him,” Mr. Sata said.

The President was speaking to Journalists at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport shortly after arrival from South Africa where he had gone to attend the ruling African National Congress (ANC) centenary celebrations.

And President Sata charged that former government officials in the former ruling party MMD should not feel persecuted because the real fight against corruption has just begun.

President Sata said that he will soon swear in Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito so that “he can sort out” former leaders who plundered public resources in the MMD government.

Mr Sata was reacting to former Vice-president George Kunda’s complaint that the PF government’s fight against corruption amounts to persecuting the opposition. “We haven’t started. If they start burying money, we are going to dig up all the money they have buried. How can you expect a former minister of commerce to buy a plot for K2.8 billion? Don’t worry this is just the beginning…and very shortly I am going to swear in Mutembo Nchito, who knows them better, he will sort them out, including Dora Siliya. Let her recover quickly,” Mr Sata said.

The President has since wished former Transport and Communications Minister Dora Siliya a quick recovery so that she can face law enforcement agencies.

  19. The President’s utterances are undermining the Legal profession and passed President’s. How does such an incompetent Lawyer hold the following offices in addition to running a successful Legal firm;

    1. President of LAZ
    2. Attorney General
    3. Minister of Justice
    4. Vice President.

    The claim undermines the Legal fraternity of the time who had confidence in GK to lead LAZ and it also undermines the appointing authorities who appointed him the subsequent positions and if you ask me who is more incompetent in their roles between GK and Sata, I would firmly say Sata.

    As for his wishes to Dora I would like to remind him that he is a staunch Catholic who mustn’t mock with people’s illness and pain. 
    Last the vindictiveness in his wishes to Dora proves the level on which PF is fighting corruption.

  23. Since when did President Sata know what a competent lawyer looks like? His best choice Wynter Kabimba lost case after case before elections. On the other hand, I would NOT support anybody wasting our time by taking Guy Scott to court. Guy Scott is also Zambian and there is no need of embarrassing him like that. GK must learn to choose his battles properly – that’s why MMD lost elections because of such levels of dullness. However, if I wanted to identify the most incompetent lawyer in Africa, I would not consult Michael Sata even if he was the only person to talk to. Sata is among the least competent presidents in the world.. Let’s focus on more important things: people are dying from typhoid in Mufulira and farmers in Serenje need to be paid for their produce. What the fu*ck!

  26. Let the president calm down over national issues, his age and health is sensitive to emotional out bursts to trigger other healthy conditions that may be of concern. We respect his rating of lawyer Kunda in Africa except its source. However, Kunda raises a vexing issue in a democratic state such as ours. The question raised is based on PF party constitution about the vice president’s role. Mr Sata has been out of the country not only once but twice. On both occassions Mr Chikwanda the minister of Finance has been appointed to act in Mr Sata’s absence. We dont want to be forced to believe that because Mr Alexander Chikwanda is direct cousin of Mr Sata small wonder overlooking what PF constitution says about who runs the affairs of the nation in the absence or sickness of president.

  29. Let President Sata tell the nation and PF members about this strange and peculiar arrangement in a democratic evironment. Let PF members speak out to defend this trend or dennounce this action by their president. Without prejudice its unfair to Dr Guy Scott. Its not about Kunda sueing Mr Sata with legal action, but proving the openness and PF being a govt of the people, by the people and for the people.

    (1) Whenever the President is absent from Zambia or considers it desirable so to do by 
    reason of illness or for any other cause, he may by direction in writing, authorize the 
    Vice-President, or where the Vice-President is absent from Zambia or incapable of 
    discharging the functions of the office of President, any other person, to discharge 
    such functions of the office of President as he may specify, and the Vice-President or 
    such other person may discharge those functions until his authority is revoked by the 
    President.

    • Right! Guy Scott was both available in the country and capable of discharging the duties of the office of president, so why wasn’t he appointed as acting President as per requirements of the constitution? I think Sata needs to answer this question for the benefit of us citizens.

And the presidio wishing Siliya a quick recovery seem to imply that the judiciary is being given undue pressure in the event that Siliya is tried in the courts, because it appears presidio’s mind on her is predetermined. Imagine what would happen if Siliya, were it to happen that she is found not guilty on, say, a technicality, i wouldn’t know what would be said of the presiding judge. It would go like this, ” What kind of Inspector General, sorry, I meant, judge are you?” Hahaha!

If it’s true, then that is really sad because, look, he’s the lawyer who enlightened us and stood up in defence of the office of Secretary to the Treasury. The position which had been scrapped as not necessary and just a duplication, was retained. And he is the same lawyer who wants the nation to be told why Scott could not act as Veep and Chikwanda acted. It’s as simple as that, and a mere clarification from the presidency is all that is required. Incompetent? Nay,I call it checks and balances.

  84. In Zambia, we always forget. I believe records are there somewhere. At the time maybe the LAZ President was either Sakwiba Sikota or George Kunda. And both were very critical of the then Govt.General Miyanda was the Vice President. President Chiluba went out of the country. It was Ben Mwila who remained as the acting President. While acting, Ben order security personnel to search Dr Kaunda or some UNIP guys. I believe this is not the first time it has happened. Unfortunely Mr Kunda has nothing to say and offer to Zambia now, He is an would hopeless soldier who is now shooting anywhere thinking he will survive.

  103. Dr GUY SCOTT, THE CONSTITUTION & VICE PRESIDENCY: Article 45 (1) provides for office of Vice President in the Republic of Zambia. Article 45 (2) says Vice President to be appointed by President from among MPs. There is no clause which says a Vice President should have both parents born as Zambians but it refers to qualification of a Vice President to Article 64 which outlines qualification of an MP, eg: literate, Zambian citizen, etc. These are facts guys, lets research if we are to argue further.

If Sata refers to Kunda as the most incompetent Lawyer, this will attract a chain of assessments. It is safe to advise people to invest and seek legal defence with George Kunda’s Legal Firm than waste time to consult Wynter Kabimba -Sebastian Zulu- Musa Mwenye. However, on which side of the scale would President Sata locate himself in terms of competence among the Presidents of Africa? Ba Sata has no Grade 12 Certificate either.
