Post Newspapers Managing Editor Fred Mmembe has said that all former leaders who committed crimes should be made to answer for their actions. Mr. Mmembe said that the PF government should not in any way be seen to pardon criminal activities committed by former leaders even if there is friendship involved.

He said that The Post Newspaper is happy with the current leadership and will do all its best to support government so that it delivers in accordance with the promises it made to the people.

Mr. Mmembe said that his Newspaper’s support to government should not be seen as compromise because the paper is beyond compromise.

He was speaking at the opening of an in-house training course for Post Newspaper journalists in Lusaka on yesterday.

Mr M’membe said The Post will strive to work with government in its quest to develop the country. He was, however, quick to point out that the newspaper will not hesitate to criticise the PF government when necessary.

“We will support government to deliver development but we (Post newspaper) are beyond being compromised. No-one can buy our principles and values. If criticism is what will make government deliver, so be it,” he said.

And Information and Broadcasting Minister Fackson Shamenda praised the Post Newspaper for the role it has played in helping shape Zambian democracy.

He said that the Paper has over the years demonstrated its courage in ensuring that it stands on its principles.

The Minister also took time to thank Mr. Mmembe for encouraging him to join politics.

And Mr Shamenda said preparations towards the enactment of the Freedom of Information bill are progressing well. He said government is likely to table the bill in Parliament in the next few months.

“You may wish to know that with support from the United States government, a team of eight media and other professionals from the legal and civil society in Zambia is currently touring the United States of America to familiarise itself with freedom of information laws in that country.

“We believe the experience the team will bring back from this tour will be useful in our freedom of information process in Zambia,” Mr Shamenda said.

  1. Welcome to LT Member. People here have been anxiously waiting for to show up. Gentlemen and ladies, here you are.hahahahaha

  2. THE POST NEWSPAPER FOR YEARS NOW, HAS GAINED POPULARITY BECAUSE OF ITS FIRMNESS AND BOLDNESS IN DEALING WITH ISSUES. CONTINUE WITH THE SAME SPIRIT. KA ZAMBIAN WATCHDOG WEBSITE THINKS IT CAN REACH YOUR STANDARDS, POOR IT WITH ITS HH!

  3. This chap Mmembe is referring to his God father Sata over the Merzf flats scandals, his tendancy of putting ministry funds in personal accounts for months and moving of K2 billion kwacha he took on a ZAF chopper at then Mulungushi Rock of Authority convention at the pick of his campaign for the third term. Certainly these where criminal activities that have to be addressed first before Sata points fingers on others.

    • Your are right. Sata needs to look as his corrupt activities first before pointing fingers at others. He also stole a GRZ Hyundai car only to surrender it on the last day when Sondashi intsructed the Police to arrest him for theft of a GRZ car.

    • Its true. Sata is always under declaring his assets and hides in the name of family trusts. Now he has set a presidence of investigating the Mpundu trust. His family trust should also be investigated. Ba Meembe please shut up we know how much you are trying to hide the wrongs of PF, but for how long?

  4. Neither you should be forgiven over Zambian Airways saga. We badly need that money you chewed with your friend Nchito. But knowing this gvt, with the support you gave them and continue doing so they will drop your cases just like they dropped corruption cases against Nchito. No justice in Zambia, if there is it is selective. We know that the Post are prosecutors and the judges and they are above the law no one can touch them.

  5. # 4Based on what you have pointed out…i reckon the old man’s hands are tight, and FRED UNDERSTANDS THIS…WE THEN BEGIN ANEW is what Sata must be thinking,’from now onwards, no corruption!’…it still can work…new beginnings for Zambia—

  6. You guys stop making noise. RB kept cheating us that he was investigating Zambian Airways but found there was no crime at all, They kept saying investagations have reached an advanced stage. Bravo Mmembe bravo Post Newspapers

    • Where have you been? The matter has since been concluded since PF took office. You think those debates by MPs in Parliament were a fluke please don’t misguide Zambians. We know better. So where do you think that money for paying off the debt came from…you scratch my back I stretch yours. And the most crime that Ala Bee himself did was to refuse to repay the debt; now you will see him dance even where there is no proof. Man of Action your 90days are over. You can leave the net for a while to reboot!!!

    • The case is not yet over. Nchito was brought in to sought it out from inside. Monkey tricks you know. Sata the wise one.

  7. Who is this guy to instruct Zambians not to pardon former leaders. This same leader he is supporting today has a record of criminal activities.Just continue bootlicking baba.

    • HE IS A ZAMBIAN JUST LIKE YOU. MAKE AN ADVISORY STATEMENT AND ASK ANY MEDIA TO PUBLISH IT FOR YOU, THEY WILL. WHAT MATTERS IS HOW PEOPLE TAKE IT. NO ONE HAS DENIED YOU POPULARITY.

    • We need discipline in the country, and this should start with the leaders. If they stole, we are not going to forgive them. What they stole belongs to the people. We should not be afraid to enforce the law regardless of who is on the other side of it!

  8. Who is this chap yapping down our minister shamenda. His conduct is condescending to say the list. The post has no principles left. They owe banks and government institutions trillions of Kwacha. THe MAFIA PF are the protectors of membe. He cant dare criticise them or they will finish him. Sata is holding membe’s scrotam with a firm grip and if membe goes out of line, sata will sqeuze the yolk out of membe’s balls

  9. God the post shinda paper is pathetic nowadays…the watchdog is more informative. The post newspaper shinda has only one news item ..its all about RUPIAH BANDA  useless journalism.

  10. I have evidence that membe is a thief. If you want to know how a crocodile lives in water, ask the fish. Membe has built and owns several houses in Lusaka, but his salary can not enable him build such mansions. He needs to justify the source of funding for his plush life. Membe is a thief people and I have evidence. This chaps does not pay dividents to share holders to frustrate them to sell the shares to him. But the chap draws a lot of money for personal use by false claims. This guy is a worse thief than chiluba. He owes ZRA, NAPSA, NATIONAL AIRPORTS billions of kwacha because he stole the money. Membe must be investigated

  11. Jokes and wonders shall never end cause as far as iam concerned The Post and PF are tightly nit so you can pay lip service all u want that wont change what we know. And whats the Posts view on Gayism?

  12. its interesting indeed bt the POST ve come a long way.they should continue being objective &digging deeper, the pf govt shoudnt be spared.long live press freedom!

  13. yes. Rupiah, Emmanuel Mwamba, Katele Kalumba, Saviour Chungu, George Mpombo, GBM, George Kunda, Mangani should all go be fairly tried.

    • Diffused and you have the proof that they stole right?
Don’t speak without. Crime justice is about proof beyond any reasonable doubt and not writing or speaking convincingly. It is proof. There has been a COI for GK, what has it found? Oh my name is so and so I was the accountant and one day I signed for GK K100m and went and gave him? Hearsay! Any witnesses to that transaction; no bwana, It was only I and him and how do we prove that gk got the cash. My word bwana. Prove beyond reasonable doubt

  14. Fred is only trying to re-affirm his friendship with his Godfather Sata because he smells the relationship may be taking a turn against his interest. Corruption should be dealt with as it happens and not when people leave office. It’s costing us too much money chasing ghosts that end up with no convictions. Focus on the economy and development. The post should channel it’s energy on exposing areas that need developing rather than looking for character assassination all the time. RB may have been reckless with the taxpayers money but give him credit where it’s due, he also attracted big investment and sat on an economy that was performing well. This government is reversing all the good work started by Levy Mwanawasa. “It’s the economy stupid” that puts more money in peoples pockets.

  15. Mmembe is actually right.all those who stole in the previous administration must be held accountable.it buffles me why people here hate mmembe.maybe some of are relatives of these corrupt minions.90% of zambians are livin on less than a dollar a day because of people like RB and his sons, liato and his relatives, george kunda and his law firm.use your brains,if mmembe had criminal dealings wouldn’t he be in jail by now.

  16. I lost my belief in you and the post a long time ago. Too biased and personalised paper. Can’t waste my K3000 on your piece of junk. Local news is all about settling personal scores and international news is picked from the BBC, The Sun and other credible foreign papers. Editorials are pieces of junk indicating how you think and what you want Zambians to think. Only people without criticle analyisis who think anything in print is true like believe inyour paper.Unfortunately there isn’t much competion in the private print media.

  17. Is it the PF which can pardon or one has to be acquitted by the courts of law.In what capacity can the PF pardon somebody who plundered national resources, because that’s our money as taxe payers.

  18. Yes Zambians have not forgiven your Devil godfather Satana for the crimes he committed in Chawama compond. The blood of Paul Tembo and Ronald Penza is on his head.yes till the truth is told about all this and the other mentioned earlier on will he be relieved of the ghost of Paul Tembo and ronald Penza.RB is a clean man.

  19. Some times i equally think if i go back to Zambia and commit a crime such as corruption I cant be jailed ( tetibankake) because the laws in this country are so pourious. They are on paper and not practical, in short they protect people with connections not the poor people and i have connections with katele, BY, Mpombo, silwamba, mushili, mulongoti, E.sakala, Sangwa, Kambwili etc bonse aba banandi. what a country with fake laws?

  20. #18 Its not because people like RB and Liato that 90% of people are living on less than a dollar per day. Its because of Laziness, Lack of innovation and some still believe that any one rich is a satanist or used supernatural powers. Attitude to work is very bad. At the moment a lot of people are loiterning the streets and drinking alcohol without being productive. People don’t spend time to take advantage of their enviroment. Some are actually still waiting for more money in their pockets from the government. You can’t imagine that Zambia has a GDP of US$20 billion while a small country like South Korea has a GDP of US$ 1. 4 trillion.

  21. This message should have been directed at the courts not shamenda..mmembe is a lost animal….is shamenda under the judiciary

  22. hahahahahahahahahaha, people have issues with Mmembe. More missiles coming. Where is the famous Capitalist and MMD chief bootliker. We need your atomic bombs here.

  23. we need real diversity of newspapers in Zambia. When will someone persuade Mr Murdoch to invest in Zambia? He can rebalance democratic debates.

  24. Ba Mmembe you are wasting your time.

They are scared of the rule that says: Do unto others the way you would want them to do unto you.

  25. this boy is boastiful.. he thinks he owns zambia… one day God will surely show him that homosexual and hatrate is not Godliness.

  26. “And the core problem in Africa is not corruption but the lack of basic infrastructure and services. Like all poor regions (and rich nations like the U.S.), Africa has its corruption problems, but they do not explain its distinctively poor economic performance.” Sachs

  27. The Post has become the mouthpiece of PF and Sata. Its role now is merely to out-do all the PF and Sata praise-singers. It is just junk.

  28. Persue and urge PF politicians to fight corruption and nepotism which Sata is practising. It’s not all about brains but sheer tribalism compounded by nepotism talk about his appointments.Sata of PF and HH of UPNDare the character of the same breed the difference is HH is not in power but they are the same the fialure to work together. Each of themis for the promotion of his own tribe.
Meembe you are the unforeseen power behind PF and Sata be courageous to correct them if they go astray.

  29. Membe, we got used to you giving instructions to Govt thru your paper. Have you changed the approach that now its public knowledge that you give instructions directly to GVT? You have issues on your head. Zambian Always, NAC and ADB. For now its ok, we shall be patient. If I were Sata I would leave this chap in the woods, but I bet he is scared of him.

  30. willie nsanda is now board member for zamtel…grade seven drop out, excellent skill in mini bus driving buses with advanced skills in controlling ngwagwazi’s at bus stations.i think he has a powerful cv to be a board member at one of the powerful tecom service providers in zambia. thank you sata for identifying such a rare member to the task….more development in zambia coming.viva pf kaponya governance.

  31. The circus continues. Yes Mumembe you can prance and strut all you like but your day of reckoning will come. Who thought Unip or MMD would be out of power?

  32. No amount of prevarication or equivocation can hide Mr “cobra the2nd” Mmembe’s strident tone of anti MMD venom and his benign approach to anything PF.He is no editor or journalist but a raving mad, venom spewing “terrorist of the pen & paper” .He an crawl back to his trashy paper coz he has never been objective his whole life.

  33. Zambia has a rotten justice system where a newspaper editor and a crooked DPP virtually control the levers of justice. When power changes hands, this rubbish will be stopped irretrievably.

    • Terefe Fikru Posted on It is a great pleasure to upgarde my self so that i’ll make a significant contribution to my home country on my return. i do have bachelor’s degree in chemistry . Thanks for considering my application !!!

  34. He was speaking at the opening of an in-house training course for Post Newspaper journalists in Lusaka on yesterday.

Is the minister being referred to above on govt payroll or on Mmembe’s? How can an entire minister go to a small boardroom at The Post s*****t there the whole day? When does he serve the nation if he is serving Mmembe? Mmembe is the ruler of this nation, and Ba Sata is just a front. What a shame to PF, fighting so hard to rule only to be controlled by one Mmember.

  35. Guys, just something completely unrelated to help distract your ‘anger’ or happiness and channel it into a different direction.

Today I stumbled uopn a Kenya blog called MwakilishiDOTcom and I found something shocking there.

Apparently Kenya took out the Ugliest People in Africa award and it did thid by ‘dislodging Zambia’ who I infer had been winning the award but came second this time.

Surely with all our beautiful people, how can we take such an award? It made me wonder, was this award given to us based on our Presidents?
Check it out… just search for ‘Kenyans Voted Ugliest in Africa’ :(

  36. The political situation in our country now is not different from the way the nazi came to power. The civil society supported the party and the nazi party made sure that all influential organizations in the Germany republic, were controlled by the party cadres, parastatals, civil society, farmers cooperatives and alike. The nazi came to power and we know how they ended. the economy and war brought them down. The question is whether that type of politics used by the nazi would work or not in the 21st century. It worked with unip but the economy brought them down. We are seeing the same precepts being used in the PF manifesto which Zambians did not ready of course even other manifestos. We are yet to see how things will work out.

  37. Some of these PF Ministers are really jokers. Anybody heard of something commendable Shamenda has ever said or done since becoming Minister? From what he said here you would be forgiven for thinking he is Mmembe’s employee.

  38. I understand Mmembe is a lawyer of some sort. I believe the law stipulates that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. The law according to Mmembe seems to say the leaders he is alluding to are already guilty even before the courts rule otherwise. Now that is a dangerous and careless statement by Mmembe. I sense that he is, in a way, directing the judiciary to find the leaders he is alluding to guilty so that they are imprisoned. I have heard of cases where a court case is dismissed on a technicality. Again, that is the law, so why should Mmembe be so vengeful as to indirectly direct that the leaders he has in mind should be imprisoned. Well, if that is the case, we might as well go back to Unip times todate. Let’s see which leader can go scot-free, including himself.

  39. What’s this thug Mmembe talking about? You should be telling Zambians how you will be paying the money you stole with Mutembo Nchito. You actually received a windfall from Sata for the role you played in his campaign. All your minions are now part of the PF government.

  40. The Post Newspaper is too biased towards the ruling party what do we expect if Sata has cluelessly former directors to be his press advisers….more reason why Times and Daily Mail should cut loose, we need an alternative paper with a different view on current affairs.
Last week there was a debate about gay rights and they chose to ignore the whole thing …very interesting indeed!!

  41. There’s now room for an open and vibrant newspaper in Zambia. I wonder why it took so long to realize, the real Post died with the departure of the likes of late Jowie Mwiinga and Bright Mwape (RIP). The left people when they realized he was using them for his personal gain. The newspaper has struggled for several years to pay salaries. Mmembe was left with hangers-on like Malupenga who are unemployable anywhere. The political appointment by Sata was definitely a godsend for Malupenga.

    • Crossfit Endurance Team,I wanted to take a mnoemt to thank you for all you do! I strictly followed your endurance protocol and my Crossfit box’s strength and conditioning WOD while training for Ironman Arizona. I was able to complete my goal by finishing in 11 hours and 44 minutes. This was my first Ironman! I never wavered or was scared that I needed to mix in some LSD workouts. Thanks for all you do! I couldn’t of done it without your team. I look forward to continual improvement using crossfit endurance!

  42. There was a time when I used to look forward to reading the Post editorial online. Not any more…I just make a beeline to their business section and I’m out. I get the latest from online websites like LT and Social Network live forums!!

  43. This is a case when a kettle calls the pot black. It is strange that a real thief is calling for the punishment of innocent MMD leaders. Mmembe and Nchito must voluntarily submit themselves for a thorough investigation over the plunder of public finances during the mismanagement of the Zambian Airways. The investigative wings (ACC, DEC) have the support of the Law to carry out independent probes vigorously mount investigations to unravel where Mmembe and Nchito are hiding the plundered money in overseas accounts.

  44. The die is cast for Mmembe. His time of reckoning is coming. He will practice his vice properly kwa Chimbokaila. I am actually amazed at how a naked emperor this chap has become. Only a few clueless chaps are ranting about his perceived might. His glory days are long gone. His time is nigh for true reckoning. He actually knows it going by what this thread is saying if he has the guts and possible gusto to read it.

  45. those who stole should payback, the poor are languishing in poverty the rich keep their liveliwood that is wrong, every wrong doer must be brought to book

  46. #57 Mphangwe
innocent MMD leaders?? hahaha I just choked on my afternoon tea and custard creams biscuits after reading that…

  47. Known fact that Fred has a hard on for MMD, and RB in particular. News Flash this is just in!! Neither RB nor MMD are in power any more. This comes as a surprise because the Post no longer has anything to write about. The paper which sold millions of copies vilifying RB suddenly found itself with nothing to write about and PF’s landslide victory.
The Post and Mmembe spend their last few days scrounging around for unfounded nibbles of information and have recently become desperate; even falsely reporting that Henry Banda was hiding out in Kenya’s state house — a move that embarrassed the whole nation.

Get a life Fred. There is life after MMD.

  48. Freddie boy…true MMD & RB are gone mate or didnt you notice! We know how you fancy the old man RB and want to ask him out on a date, but I must tell you, he likes his girls!!!! We have never seen such obsession! I believe another of your targets FTJ alikukana fye, just own up dear. Anyway, what we want is ‘mo money in our pockets’ baba, which at the moment, we DONCHI have! As a self appointed crusader of corruption, I will give you a little hint… tribalism and nepotism are CORRUPTION and we have tonnes of evidence so lets start there boy, instead of your vindictive expensive wild goose chases with your buddy Mutembo! Spare us your rubbish s..t paper campaigns and find another soap box and cause. You are done and MCS saw you coming. You have met your match and he wont take your cr..p

  49. shhhhhhhhhhhit Freddie! He has always been …t to me.
@ Maxwell, not all former leaders are thieves and remember that one such former leader is MCS (10 good years with mmd) and beating people up over the 3rd term debate. Remember?

  50. Like Julius Malema of ANCYL in RSA, Mmembe has already dug his own grave and balancing by the sides, he just needs a nudge to fall in and we do the burying. I am sure of all this because that is how nature sorts out such characters.

  51. you people have you forgoten how Mmembe delivered you from third term and arogant MMD, indeed some one was right to say you zambians forget easily

  52. Monday, you got it wrong buddy. Zambians revolted on their own and Mmembe followed the wind. By the way, Sata was pretty much at the center of Chiluba’s third term. It is safe to say you’re the one (Monday) who has amnesia.

  53. People, can someone tell me why Fred Mmembe is normally accused of being gay by bloggers? When, where, how and why did these accusations start?

Sorry I have been living under a rock… I mean I have been away from Zambia for a while and I don’t know the gossip that much, rather than getting it from blogs.

It’s tru The Post never carried a story last week on the gay issue, whwich was a trending topic in the country at the moment (together with the BA’64).

  54. Hahahaha, you chaps are suffering. The MMD can only move forward when they bring in youthful leaders. Zambians will not vote for anyone standing for the presidency of that party right now.

  55. Media personnel and other professionals, lawyers, civil society groups touring the U.S right? Those are just the people you need to promote gay rights because they are influential in society. Not going to happen here. Unless our God is dead. Sick! Chi Mmembe we are not foolish, ifyakutomba kumatako uko kwine!

  56. Fantastic stuff, these are the article types that pave the way for budding bloggers. A great starter kit for times of writers block too.Nice resource Kim!
