Government says it will soon open up the airwaves to allow private radio stations expand their radius and cover the whole nation.

Information, Broadcasting and Labour Permanent Secretary, Amos Malupenga disclosed that government is willing to spread media coverage so that Zambians can have information about what is taking place in other parts of the country.

Mr. Malupenga says all community radio stations willing to
expand their coverage area should start preparing their equipment.

He said this is because government is in the process of putting in place the Independent Broadcasting Authority -IBA.

He says a well informed citizenry will make informed decisions which will help government serve them better.

And Mr. Malupenga has reassured media practitioners in the country that government will never interfere in their operations unless they go beyond what is allowed by law.

He says the Independent Broadcasting Authority -IBA and the Freedom of Information law might be in place before the end of the year.

He says the law will help enhance the operations of the media.

He was speaking on a special programme on Oblate Radio Liseli in Mongu.

  1. Long overdue. I see IBA is coming to Zed. Good move though if it allows itself to be politically influenced it will just become another waste of taxpayers money.

  2. Good news. But then, ministry of information, broadcasting and labour???? Guys, guys, guy!!!!

  3. Only those who will be singing “beasts of England” will get licenses. If you are not a PF mascott, you’re unlikely to get a license. These stations will be used in PF elections campaign.

  4. There we go, that is freedom. Wait for many many more wonderful items on the PF agenda. I know these guys mean well for the country. Six months only, we only have to wait when real development strides are rolled across the nation, in the various districts. The sky is not the limit. We limit ourselves because we don’t know beyond what we know, and there are better things beyond our thinking. Those who have been in RSA, Europe, Americas etc they will tell you that the best roads we have in Zambia are just tiny things. There are proper roads out there. Same goes with many things like hospitals, schools, etc. We have to think beyond our capacity of seeing the current level of development in Zambia. It can be far better, but with openness and hard work.

  5. Good move. This will provide the opposition with a definite victory come 2016. An informed citizenry cannot vote PF with its trial and error governing style.

  6. Well, we will wait and see. If people newly appointed in government can lose their tempers over a fly, these caps will lose it when radio stations begin to demand expansion licenses. These cadres being appointed as PS, DCs and all that will simply mess up the civil service. mark my word.

  7. Amos cikala if you think you can play with our bolls like MMD did you have another thing up your dirty A.S.S! This shit just needs to be implemented, period! Not everyday politicking! Umo tukamutula amafi bafikala! Mubeko serious nechalo! This is human life! – God’s creations for christs sake! People are dying everyday! If you have just become like those useless and out-of-touch technocrats in the ministries, then just take your ka Diploma back ku Post, and use it as shinda paper! IBA and FI are not negotiable! Just on with it! Theres no time to waste and f.u.ck. us around like shikapwasha.
