Patriotic Front leader Michael Sata launches a verbal protest against publication of certain periodicals
President Michael Sata

President Michael Sata has said that he is deeply embarrassed with immediate-past President Mr. Rupiah Bwezani Banda’s hyperbole over his lighted-hearted conversation with former United States president George W. Bush.

This is contained in a press statement released to the media his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations George Chellah

“It is very unfortunate that Mr. Banda has chosen to play very cheap politics on a matter that does not concern him. Mr. Banda is remotely connected if not totally disconnected to the matter at hand, as he does not understand the nature of the personal relationship that I have cultivated with former president Bush,” President Sata said in the statement.

“Therefore, my light-hearted conversation with former president Bush should not be an occasion for cheap political scoring by Mr. Banda. As a matter of fact, this is not the first time that I was hosting former president and Mrs. Bush. And I am very grateful that they chose to pay us two visits in a space of six months, which clearly indicates the cordial relations between the two countries and former president Bush’s personal commitment to our country.”

President Sata encouraged Mr. Banda to behave in a manner befitting a former Head of State.

“Mr. Banda spent his presidency doing wrong things for himself and his children. I therefore, understand his desperation and attempts to seek relevance, though in wrong places this time around. I would encourage my dear brother to come to terms with what has happened and subsequently behave as a mature adult, and leave the running of Government to the duly elected officers,” President Sata said.

“Let Mr. Banda prepare to answer for his own misdeeds. Trying to turn a light-hearted exchange between former president Bush and myself, which we normally do, will not help him to sort out his numerous problems.”

[pullquote]“Let Mr. Banda prepare to answer for his own misdeeds. Trying to turn a light-hearted exchange between former president Bush and myself, which we normally do, will not help him to sort out his numerous problems.”[/pullquote]

The President described Mr. Banda’s conduct as unbecoming and unprecedented for a self-respecting former Head of State.

“Notwithstanding the many wrongs that Mr. Banda committed against our people and us, we have restrained ourselves and tried to accord him full respect. Obviously, Mr. Banda is mistaking this for a weakness. We warn him not to push his luck too far. In fact, he is the least person that should cross paths with this administration,” President Sata said.

“Today, Mr. Banda can pretend to be a friend of the international community because he wants their support to defend the wrong things that he did during his tenure. But we have not forgotten that it is during his administration that he told donors to ‘pack and go’ when they questioned the corruption in his Government.”

The Head of State said that the Zambian Government continue to express its unreserved gratitude to former president and Mrs Bush’s works in the country.

  1. RB is a treasonous old dog who needs to account for the money he plundered and not kissing a.s.s with foreigners.

  2. Diplomacy shikulu matters. Jokes aside to a foreign former head of state. Ba George is still considered a great Leader.

  3. KEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKE I LIKE THIS “It is very unfortunate that Mr. Banda has chosen to play very cheap politics on a matter that does not concern him. Mr. Banda is remotely connected if not totally disconnected to the matter at hand, as he does not understand the nature of the personal relationship that I have cultivated with former president Bush,” President Sata said in the statement.

  4. Weather you like it or not what Sata said was very irresponsible especially coming from a Head of State and in public! He should be telling Bush such things when they are just the two of them, bcoz what ever Sata said has not sat well with most Americans!

    • The colonialists stole our resources and abused our people. Industrialisation was the next logical step after the mass production made possible by slavery, the backbone of America’s development into a major player in the modern world. This is basic history which even grade fives know about. So, what did Sata say which aint true? That they neglected us? Yes. They did and continue to do so. Look at how they responded when Eastern Europe collapsed after the fall of the Soviet Union. See how they are bailing out Greece. That aid we get is only about 10 percent of what they take out. A Head of State who can point these things out is what Africa needs. Mugabe went too far by chasing them and being extremely violent. Mr. Sata acknowledges their importance, but just points out some history.

  5. I see calls for lift RB’s immunity gaining momentum. It shall be headline in everyday pays from the POST to Times , Daily and ZNBC for the next one month.

If the remarks to Bush were unpresidential , this response even tramps that by miles. What a president we have in State House.

Clearly a reactionary response without any thought going into it , that is why he is now going into RB’s personal life instead of just focussing on the comments he made and echo the apology because all international media is running crazy that Sata dressed down George Bush.

Has Sata and George  Chellah  written to the ALL  international media to say he was just joking? How sad. leave RB alone.

    • well said by you,he should just apologise instead of attacking someone who is putting sense into the sad situation,he is unstable in all his ways.i could never vote for him.

    • Madea and Helen, this is very shallow. Writing to all the international media? You’re joking, right? The man stated a historical fact. Even Mr. Bush said, “No question about it”. Re-read your history, starting from grade five social studies. Pay attention to the “Great Trade Triangle” which is about slavery. Then, since you’re obviously familiar with the internet, google “how america benefitted from slavery”. Then, google how much aid comes to africa a year, and google the value of how much uranium, copper, gold, diamonds, oil…etc are going out of africa, per year, and if you still think Sata said something wrong then we need to start praying for you immediately.

  6. But ba Sata even in light hearted moments there’s a line you do not cross.I’ve seen many Whitehse correspondents dinners where jokes are the order of the day but still some jokes are judged to be in bad taste.Don’t mix your imagined wrongs by RB (which you should prove in court but haven’t) with your bad mouth, vengeful and short tempered character.

  7. Is he a president or a comedian to be joking all the time? Was he joking when he was chanting ZANU-PF slogans in Angola? We need a president and not a stand-up comedian!

  8. Sata is just unpolished. RB did save face in this situation. Does Sata know what a joke is? You dont joke about issues of colonisation, racism etc.

  9. Threats, threats, threats…..can’t wait to see this imbecile without his newly aquired power…………….. “We warn him not to push his luck too far. In fact, he is the least person that should cross paths with this administration”……..OR WHAT IWE CNP? OR WHAT??? SAY IT MR DICTATOR….OR WHAT????

  10. The truth is colonialists (bush inclussive) are still seriously undermining African countries. Look at HIPC, DOHA AGREEMENTS ON AGRICULTURE exports, Open markets (but close theirs) ,wars in countries that don’t manufacture guns &ammunition ,(who supplies them &why??) . It’s meddling in African affairs for their own interests as they cash in…But SATA used a wrong platform or fora to address colonialism, slavery, exploitation and outright theft in the way they impose conditions on african govts. what sata shud address ,are the practical foreign policy issues to address these realities not forgetting that the world is now a global village,no country can exist on its own. Sata needed to be as diplomatic as possible, while delivering these truths

  11. This wrangling and mudslinging between old men in their mid-70s is very unhealthy. However I think Mr Sata has a valid point by advising Mr Banda to shut up. What is Mr Banda trying to prove by being so nosy?

  12. Mr Banda is an intnationaly respected man,he respected the zambians and his subordinates, now this time around we are living in fear to xpress ourselvs, anyways we are voting in the next 4yrs no mater how far it is becoming,

    • you are re writing history -why did the donor community stop giving aid. This man RB was the epitome of greed

  13. Ukwa Ukwa hold your fire. What makes you think everyone is your mbuya? And please dont fuq with easterners.

  14. MCS tone down, swallow your pride and accept that you were wrong. 2 wrongs cannot make a right. This country can perish economically if you dont control your stinking mouth. Friendly advise, where is Gadafi, sadam, idiamin,… the list is endless. The same GWB you were mercing around with is deadly. Keep on keeping on we shall be watching. You dont loose anything by saying sorry. Zambian President cannot be even equalled to a state Governor in US. tONE DOWN sHIKULU, . reflect on your looses in l/stone and muchinga where you ve jusst come from insulting a widow

  15. Ninsoni chabe bamudaala am sure ba Kaseba nababakalipila ati mwansebanya ukulandalanda. This whole press statement is way out of line, draw a line with your jokes which even some well meaning Zambians do not enjoy. Bush tried it on the Queen and it did not go well and from then on he learnt his lesson that we all have different cultures. I just hope that the President has learnt that we are a world of diverse people and cultures and the same jokes that Zambians find light moments are not appreciated by some cultures.

  16. sata is an old egg i mean old dog,,,,,who likes talking abt  the personality….our mad dog always gives a dramma

  17. Countrymen, the President Sata in his press statement was merely apologising indirectly to GWB. He recognises the embarassment his joke caused

  18. The problem we have here is gutter and hateful journalism bent on demonising PF and the president at each and every turn. What we get from the independent media isn’t a true reflection of what really is transpiring in the country. We are fed malicious fabrications masquarading as objective reports about every little thing the president says or does.

  19. Just as much as The President may have sounded undiplomatic, what he said is true. But I only wish RB could have been diplomatic enough to chat with MCS in privacy. But this is embarrassing already. It is sad to see our leaders shoot each other in public. Did RB know it was a light moment? Is there any complaint from Bush’s office? I personally appreciate what Mr. Bush is doing. Mmmmmmm….May be our RB needs to be active like Bush – painting, doing some community works etc. MCS please give RB something to do unlike writing letters.

  20. MR RB SHOULD STOP PLAYING DIRTY POLITICS ,HE SHOLD BE THE LAST PERSON TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF OUR NATION .HE SHOULD NOT TRY TO APPEASE THE US AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES TO COVER UP HIS MISDEEDS WHILE IN OFFICE FOR 3 YEARS. A THIEF WHO HAS STOLEN BILLIONS OF USD SHOLD NOT TRY TO BECOME A SAINT AND THE GOVT MUST REMOVE HIS IMMUNITY WITH IMMIDIATE EFFECT AND MUST BE TOLD TO SHUT UP. FOR ONCE AND ALL..JUST BECAUSE HE HAS RECENTLY RETURNED BACK FROM USA HE SHOULD NOT BEND HIS HEAD AND BOW DOWN BEFORE THE SLAVE MASTERS.. DONT FORGET WHAT THEY DID TO KUNTA KINTE OR CHICKEN GEORGE DURING THE SLAVERY TIMES.GEORGE W BUSH SHOULD NOT BE A FACTOR FOR ZAMBIA AS HE IS NOW AN ORDINARY US CITIZEN AND DOES NOT REPRESENT AMERICA ANYMORE.BECAUSE ITS OBAMA HUSSAIN THAT IS IN WHITE HOUSE AND NOT BUSH

    • To me it is illogical for you and your so called president to connect the comments that RB made to the lifting of his immunity.

  21. 22. I JOKE I JOKE HAHAHA.,UKWA THE NAME FITS HIM THE MAN LIKES JOKING.HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH KEEP ON JOKING REMEMBER YOU HAVE A COUNTRY TO RUN.

  23. SATA, Bush was in Zambia on an official visit coordinated by the American embassy and the American government was aware of his visit, he did not come here for cheap Knock-Knock-Jokes. Learn to be diplomatic, you are embarrassing our country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • he came in a private capacity on behalf of his charity. When cameron visited obama obama joked about how the english wanted to burn the white house when america was fighting for its indepence from the crown

  24. If Rupiah feels strongly over what Sata said to Bush that he had to apologize on “behalf of Zambians” let him also apologize to the Zambian people, his real masters for his mediocrity, corruption, thuggery and the unprecedented levels of poverty and unemployment he created during his three years of misrule, then we will give him respect. Otherwise he deserves none

  25. Sata should have done his foolish jesting in private if he didn’t want it turned into a public affair. As. A seasoned, Sata is only fit for drama performances in compounds.

  26. Sata should have done his foolish jesting in private if he didn’t want it turned into a public affair. As a seasoned clown , Sata is only fit for drama performances in compounds.

  27. Look at all you shameless keyboard armchair lazy internet critics showing praise on this conniving sly former acting president Ala Bee, gullible people you are, its just a very very unpleasant sight.

  28. RB was right. So the man thinks he has another ‘tribal cousin’ in GW Bush!!! Those guys don’t recognise ‘chimbuya’ jokes. You messed up. Period.

    • You guys why all this fuss, “George Bushe” is from a village south of Mpika – He is his cousin, so he can joke as much as he likes!!!! LOL!!!!!

  29. I thought that is what Mr Sata intended to get that same message out there? Now he saying it was just a joke! Please stop embarrassing Zambian,we are and diplomatic.

    • I dont think Sata was joking it was “a light hearted” exchange not “a light moment”. He was putting a message across not harshly but in a way that looked like a joke. In a way we can say telling a fact in a diplomatic way.

  30. This photo ba LT … isn’t there one you can use of the President looking upset? Oh, wait … :((

  31. Comedy at its best, childs play at its best — this is the reason why I hate african politics, just nonsense day in and day out….LOL…

  32. What is light-hearted about telling a LIE that the US was a colonial power? That was not a joke but exposure of ignorance. Sata needs to apologise to the nation for misrepresenting us. Someone should also give him a crash-course in general knowledge

    • Sorry in that a human being like you can blog together with us dogs. The problem with patriotic fools is that when they fail to reason they insult. Just learn to accept wrong

  33. Proverbs 18 vs 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat the fruit of it.

  34. This strenghtens my belief that pushing for a minimum qualification for presidential candidate( a degree) in the contitution is right way forward. Zambia cannot afford another ‘mentally sick’ head of state. Sata should be reminded that is no longer in opposition every he utters resonate beyond sta house grounds. Sensitive topics like colonial misdeeds should not be taken as light hearted jokes. And in fact who is kidding, he thought by being direct towards Bush people who praise him for being fearless. What an………

  36. Ukutupatanya kubantu that is what i hurt most. I hope Mr Bush was not hurt, just a word of advise to our President, such issues are not supposed to be so directly attacking someone and in an open area for that matter. Zambia is still far from developing and we need advise from people like Bush if approached in a better way. We all understand his visit but its just too early to judge him that way.

  37. Bush was like Satawhen he was US president, watch youtube you will see alot of gaffes his made in the past, but above all he has got heart, God bless him and his family for the works atleast his work his has done in a week will help even if it a few hundrend women.

  38. am told this nickname ‘ Ukwa’ was muttered by one HH aka under 5 aka boko haram commander, aka hakaivotela heka aka chimbwi no strategy(cns) and all his puppies keep repeating the idiocy. When bush visits, all hh puppies conderm the visit. When the president (mcs) jokes with bush, all hh puppies suddenly are on bush’s side; what a crazy world bitter pipo live in.

  39. Ala Bee’s clearly wrote a “anikonde muzungu” letter, when his thieving corrupt ways are exposed let’s see if those chaps in the USA will come to his defence!

  40. It can on be a light-hearted moment if Bush agrees with you Ukwa. All indicators are that it was not because it began with you loudly making an issue of his slight delay of less than 15 minutes. have you forhotten about traffic jams and pot hole delays on Zambian roads?

  41. A Rupiah Banda kusupukila ndiye mwamene kulili. Sometimes there is wisdom is silence. George Bush is very big, that he can answer for himself is he felt aggrieved by President Sata.

  42. Another reason it is regrettable being Zambian low nonsensical and low IQ are the leaders and their subordinate, this embarrass all Zambia men who are inferior to any man I have met in Scotland

    Thanks

    • Why do you keep coming on this news website? There are better news websites in Scotland!

  43. If president Sata said those WORDS… Can you all mmd, upnd chaps POINT at any lie in the Statement… IT IS VERY TRUE , AMERICA AND THE WESTERN WORLD PLUNDERED OUR  NATURAL RESOURCES, ENRICHED THEIR NATIONS OUT OF IT AND CREATED IN EVERY BLACK PERSON’S MINDSET TO SEEM INFERIOR TO WHITE PEOPLE, THROUGH A DISCOURSE THEY HAVE PROMOTED PRE-COLONIALISM…
Congtrats Mr. President! Tell them NAFUTI NAFUTI….

    • Are you aware that more that 75 % of the ART program is funded by the US government? To me the donation that Bush made is far insignificant compared to the billions of kwacha that Zambia receives from USA year in HIV/AIDS fight? So what pay back is the president talking about?

  44. Funny how these press statements read like post newspaper editorials, same wording and same tone, full of threats. Very unprofessional coming from the highest office in the land.

  45. How can you cultivate a relationship with someone from meeting them only twice in 6 months and for less than an hour on boith occassions? Sata is clearly mad in the head, all he does is feed us on an unbalanced diet of embarrassment before the world. Apparently he thought George Bush was umuNyanja called George Banda so he cracked some jokes about the cows Ngonis store from Chiti Mukulu. Hardly realising Bush is while from America that had no colonies in Africa. Little education, it is bad sure!

  46. Things are changing in zambia. We’re starting to take our comedians seriously and politicians like Sata as a joke.

  47. When you make jokes make sure they are appropriate. Bush has not publicly complained because he is much more cultured than Sata.

  48. I have yet to hear anything of substance coming out of the mouth of our beloved President. Anything that he does or says is either not well thought out, confrontational or plain stupid. Can someone gag his mouth please. Atusebanya pafula. He should learn that jokes that would be appreciated at Kamwala market would not go well when addressing dignitaries such as Mr Bush. When praying and asking for leaders, be careful what you ask for. The prayer should be, let God’s will be done and not give us Sata.

  49. SATA JUST NEEDS TO RESIGN. THAT CANT BE A JOKE.EVEN IF IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A JOKE IT SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN IN PUBLIC.SATA HAS MISREPRESENTED US AS ZAMBIANS BY VOMITING HIS OWN PERSONAL STANCE AS OPPOSED TO THE NATIONAL ONE.HE IS AN EMBARRASSMENT TO US ALL.SHAME…SHAME

  51. For those in support of Pa Mafis’ CNP, do not think RB is such dull that he did not consult before writting the apology. Infact, he must have been compelled by well meaning and senior citizens includin KK to take such a stance.

Problem most of you chaps are just grade 12 drop outs who think like kaya. MCS is a disgrace, he started in Botswana, repeated it in Zimbabwe, Angola, UK and now with the US. This economy can shrink you *****s, have a life, lack of exposure and education thats why you were easily cheated by UKWA

  52. IWE CHILLS JUST CHILL MAN, WHY DO YOU WANT BASATA TO RESIGN OVER BUSH. ANYWAY WHO IS BUSH ? ISNT BUSH A BUTCHER ?AND WHO CARES IF HE WAS A FORMER USA PRESDENT.

  53. I don’t  know what President Sata smokes before he is speaks to foreigners or Zambians in the diaspora, he seems to be under some influence, can his close associates such as Guy Scott or ba Alexander Chikwanda restrain this man. ‘Chimbwi no plan’ (A.K.A CNP) is not an insult because the literal meaning in English is ‘the absence of coherent motive’. President  Sata needs to grow up quickly otherwise his Presidency will be wasted on silly jokes.Again the President can’t be seen to using the secret service or commandoes to silence, molest or attempt to castrate the opposition or those who don’t agree with his administration.

  54. Mr Bush reportedly interjected: “Mr President, I don’t wanna be argumentative, but America was never a colonial nation. France might have been a colonial nation, Britain might have been a colonial nation, but not the United States of America.”
Mr Sata fired back that the Americans’ role in the slave industry made them equally culpable: “The Americans did not physically colonise us, but at the same time, the Americans still have scars of slavery,” he said.
Amid nervous laughter from their assembled entourages, Mr Bush replied: “No question about it.”Source: Telegraph, UK

  55. “I cannot be waiting here. He Bush is former president; he is not the current president of the United States so I cannot be waiting for him. I’m not an American for me to be waiting for him, and I don’t intend to be an American,” President Sata told Hernandez as Bush’s security kept communicating with their colleagues who were with Bush on their way to State House.

“The young man is lucky that he is the first American leader to have brought money to Africa through his Millennium Challenge Account; that’s why I’m standing here. Otherwise if it was somebody else, I would have handed him over to one of my ministers to meet him.”

  56. I am sorry guys, that was NOT a ‘light-hearted conversation’ like i am trying desperetey to portray here. I meant what i was saying but my ignorance got in my way. very very sorry

Obviously, no one ever makes ‘light hearted conversations’ in a diplomatic public speech, just forget my attack on RB.

Infact this now creates another person i have to apologise to; RB.

  57. Tell them how we joke around Mike! Didn’t they hear me call you ‘useless old nigger’, ‘flea bitten babboon’, & what’s that new one your ministers call you behind your back? Oh! Yes! Chimbwi no plan!!! Rupiah must mind his own business if he doesn’t know how me and you play!

  58. UKWA of Zambia,i wonder why he gets annoyed when HH calls him UKWA, there he goes, everything is a JOKE to him….

  59. Ba RB joining other people’s jokes is likes asking or commenting on your friends way of tombaling…

  60. Mr President, learn one or two things from the French who are investigating their former President! If you allow a dog to much room to play around the chances are that it will turn around and bite you, the owner. Cage the fellow.

  61. President Ukwa, please spare us your shallow excuse. Sometimes it helps to say ‘sorry’ when you are wrong. As head of state you should know that whatever you say is taken seriously whether light hearted or not. Common sense dictates that you should never insult a visitor in front of your kids whether jokingly or not. As you have noticed your followers take whatever you say as gospel truth. Mr president, you do not know G W Bush that well for you to reach a level were you can joke in that way whether privately, let alone publicly. Instead of rebuking RB, you should actually thank him for saving your face or rather Zambia’s image. RB expressed that feeling of the majority of Zambians and we are grateful to him for taking such an initiative despite the risk of reprisals from your govt.

  62. The President’s reaction is justified if not long overdue. The fact that RB has been allowed to roam around in several countries does not make him a better statesman than KK. RB conducted the most expensive and corrupt campaigns in the history of our country. But he has been allowed to go around as an abserver and see how level the political campaigns playing fields are in other countries! KK was in power for almost 30 yrs and yet his children could not even afford to hire a cab to take them from one region to the other. But RB was in power barely 3 years but some of his children had already started chartering planes! How do you let a corrupt fellow like RB to roam around so freeely?

    • If that is your thinking concerning the Great RB, then take him to court and prove your case. that way it will make more sense

  63. When i read the article i thought LT misquoted the president. The statement was awkward and un Diplomatic.

  64. #2, BA ZAMBIANO TAMWAKWATA ILYA MUCI SUNGU BEBA ATI SENSE OF HUMOUR, KA? NE CISUNGU CINE BUSHE MULOMFWA? TAMWAISHIBA LIGHT MOMENT KA? I REALLY DONT EXPECT A MAN LIVING (IF AT ALL) IN THE US OF A WHERE SITCOM AND STANDUPS ARE HIGHLY COMMERCIALISED TO MISUNDERSTAND A JOKE. ITS SUPRISING, AMA ZAMBIANS ABEKALA UKO BALANDA ICISUNGU EBASHUMFWA NE CISUNGU SANA, KA.

  65. ON THE OTHER HAND WHAT SATA SAID WAS TRUE. THE WESTERN WORLD – AFTER RIPPING AFRICA’S WEALTH TO ENRICH THEMSELVES THEY FORGOT ABOUT AFRICA. NOT KNOWING THAT ACTUALLY, THEY DID NOT EVEN GET A THIRD OF WHAT MADE THEM RICH FROM AFRICA. AND WHETHER IT WAS A JOKE OR OTHERWISE, ITS ONLY SATA WHO CAN TELL IT THE WAY IT IS. OTHER AFRICAN LEADERS WILL BE SCARED TO SAY WHAT SATA SAID FOR FEAR OF AID WITHDRAWAL. VIVA SATA

  66. Abatonga na UKWA, balifilwa ukutucita convince ukutila Sata ni Ukwa. ifwe bonse fwe bena zambia twaishiba ati Basata ebakateeka weesu mwati niba under fimo fimo nangu ba R&B ababalefwaya ukulatulandilako……lekeni Sata ateeke namamistakes umwiine aipangile…..abeena zambia ukumona fye imbushi yamusungu balatutuma no kusuushishapo kateeka wabo be confident, I never voted for Sata but he is the one zambians voted for, period!!!!

  67. from#74. CURRENTLY, THE WESTERN WORLD HAVE JUST BEEN AWAKENED UP BY CHINA’S PURELY BUSINESS CONNECTION WITH AFRICA. WE MUST REMIND OURSELVES AS AFRICANS THAT THE WESTERN INCLUDING EASTERN WORLD WOULDN’T WISH FOR AFRICA’S INDUSTRIALISATION- WITH ALMOST ENDLESS RESOURCES AFRICAN CAN BE TOO POWERFUL FOR ANY CONTINENT TO CONTEND WITH. BUT THIS WORLD IS ONE. WE BETTER START WORKING TOGETHER IN ORDER TO DEFEAT OUR COMMON PROBLEMS REGARDLESS OF RACE, RELIGION, CREED, ETC.

  68. I am sorry guys but the president seriously gaffed on this one. The man is always “joking”. Is this what we are in for? Constant jokes when he should be representing us on an international level? I am beginning to think these “jokes” are just a way to hide his incompetence and dullness. Period

  69. Sata leave RB alone. You are corrupt too. How can you promote your secretary to be ambassador? How can you send a 23 yr old as deputy ambassador when mature qualified people are around. You will also leave state house, mind you. RB was right to apologies to Bush.  Did you tell Bush that you were joking? Were you jocking when he was late in coming because of the chaos on our roads.

  70. In as much as we support our President, I think on this one he went too far. Infact he could have apologised before RB even wrote a letter.

  71. @38,39 by stander, these useless forged degrees you get like sweets cant be the minimum qualification for presidency. This is the right man for the job only needs time.

  72. They say humor is the truth exaggerated ! Cobra meant what he said , but does not know that America was a colony as well ! Consatble at work

  73. I thought the Presidency is for serious minded people. If all that Sata can offer is comedy and drama, he is in the wrong trade. He should have joined the Zambia Comedy gang or Lusaka Theater and not woodwink the masses to highest job in the land. This president (Sata) is an ***** and mentally sick. It’s high Zambian stood up to remove this lunatic, save the country further embarassment and cut short this dark period in the Zambian history.

  74. I would guess Guam, the Phillipines, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana, Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Cuba, Nicaragua, Veracruz, Haiti, Dominican Islands, Wake Island, Marcus Island, Greenland, Iceland, Austria, West Berlin, Japan, South Korea, Green Zone Iraq and countless naval islands are called by other names like incorporated, unincorporated, occupied territories and share a common daddy caretaker at some point in history. Tap = faucet, soda = fizz kinda thing :) Diplomacy is key though so let’s politely ignore that there are some amongst these who felt they had a colonial master. None in Africa as Diego Garcia issue is a little red face for Brits even if they did hand it over to Uncle Sam to use :)

  75. Sara has just realized how serious his comments were and is now trying portray like he’s good friends with Bush. How do jock before camera’s ? Doesn’t he know that whenever he speaks the whole world is watching. Where are the advisors to president?

  76. Why become annoyed with RB instead of the POST who wrote everything that took place at state house? RB was not there. He only read in Post paper. Why joke with any one who visits you? Colonialism is long gone.

  77. I like Sata, he calls a spade a spade! These guys are responsible for most of our suffering, and yes even if it was a ‘joke’, IT SHOULD BE PAY BACK TIME!! Hands up to Sata kekekekekekekekeke, he should also tell David Cameron and his Queen

    • It is not the first time Mr Sata has bemoaned the waning role of the West in Africa. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph earlier this year, he said he was keen for his country’s former colonial master Britain to increase its influence to counterbalance a now heavy Chinese presence against which he campaigned so fiercely in previous elections. “Better the devil you know than one you don’t,” he added.
      Source: Telegraph

      Oops :)

  78. RB, READ THE PRESIDEDENT’S LIPS WHEN HE SAYS….”Let Mr. Banda prepare to answer for his own misdeeds…” I wish RB could start seeking Sakoyz’s lawyers for advice. IF RB’s felt unsettled, he, like KK might have done, should have expressed that thru a private phone call to seek explanation from the President rather than thru the media! That is protocol and respect of the presidency.

  79. Has George Chella read the Sata v Bush story in ‘the Telegraph’ and the comments from contributors?

  80. The Post did not think Ukwa’s remarks were light hearted. The headline and story were pure marxist hypabole, condemning the Ameircan fromer President for the colonialist that he was.
    RB was on copurse.

  81. Sata was completely “OUT OF BOUNDS” on this one! No matter how his henchmen try to sugarcoat his “pooh”.
The President should learn what he can and cannot say as a HEAD OF STATE! He should realize that his words matter. If it hasn’t sunk in yet, he should also know that he is no longer just the HEAD OF SOME OPPOSITION PARTY. He now has the power to declare war and send his fellow citizens to go and die in a war. This should remind him of the level of responsibility and maturity that is required of you!
If he does not take historical events about Zambia seriously, other nations may not be that “comedic” with their histories. Such monumental misrepresentations of history of other countries cannot be taken lightly. America a colonialist country! Slavery, YES, Colonialism, NO!

  82. As President, representing 13+ millions of us, Sata is our highest ranking ambassador and diplomat—he represents all of us—not the Sata clan. Therefore, buffoonery should never be part of his menu!

  83. In what capacity was RB apologizing on behalf on all Zambian…Is RB mandated to so…By the way did the American Embassy protect to Zambian Government… the answer is NO… RB has jumped the gun… I say ground this RB FOOL. Get his passport. He must not be allowed to travel abraod, he is a threat to national security.

  84. BA PA FWAKA (PF) PLEASE, SEND YOUR BIG MOUTHED PRESIDENT TO NIPA TO LEARN DIPLOMACY IN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS. ALEETUSEBANYA SANA. EVEN AKA KENE KA CHELLA, WHY DOES HE WANT TO COME UP WITH SOME DIFFERENT ARTICLE THIS TIME AROUND WHEN A DAMAGE HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE ? THE WAY YOU BEHAVEAND JOKE IN YOUR ZAMBIAN CULTURE IS NOT THE SAME WAY THEY DO IT IN OTHER COUNTRIES (OR CULTURES) SO YOU MAY END UP LOOKING A FOOL IN THE PUBLIC, SO ADVISE YOUR PRESIDENT. DON’ T JUST SUPPORT BECAUSE SATA IS YOUR ICON BUT CONSIDER THE EMBARRASSMENT HE HAS CAUSED TO YOU AND YOUR COUNTRY.

  85. Joking has its own place. If a person is not able to read the mood and just utters anything cooked by his little imagination, such a one needs to have their head examined. It is a shame that some Zambians can find something in this unfortunate situ to defend CNP on.

  86. A diplomatic source said the scene had been “awkward, but not really an incident”. “You never know what to expect from Michael Sata,” the source said.

    Now that’s what I call diplomacy :)

  87. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THE WAR IN CONGO IS NOT ENDING? IT IS BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE BUSH ? THEY ARE STILL PLUNDERING AND CAUSING SERIOUS CONFUSION IN THAT COUNTRY? THEY KILLED KABILA AND THEY HAVE NO REMOSE. THEY KILLED SADAAM FOR NO REASON. ONLY MUGABE HAS STOOD FIRMLY AGAINST THEM. AT LEAST NOW WE HAVE A SECONS VOICE AGAINST THESE BASTARDS!! WE DO NOT WANT ASS LEAKERS LIKE BANDA AND JOYCE!!!

    • Mugage has stood firm but is is to his personal benefit while the poeple of zimbabwe are suffering a great deal.

  88. Allow me to add a voice to this bitter speech from chellah! First and foremost this was not said or written by sata, but chellah and mumembe wrote this, just look the language used and relate it to bwinjimfumu,do not be duped blogers, sata never said this! Chellah is a liar.

  89. Ladies and Gentlemen we are in for a long haul of turbulence in diplomatic relationship. I do appreciate that what he was saying had an element of truth but should do not have said it and the fact that Bush interjected a normal man would have stopped right there. l have a feeling we are heading in the direction of Zimbabwe- mark my words, this is because Sata idolises Mugabe.

  90. #100 judgement day,

You have no brains at all! Mugabe has not stood against the West he actually submitted by his agreement to the Coalition government with Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai. Up to now Mugabe does not have any power to dictate in Zimbabwe.
What Mugabe has managed to do, is destroy Zimbabwean economy!

Surely you Moron Chimpanzee you do not want this Sata and his PF to destroy our economy and take Zambia the Zimbabwean way of running down the economy. We had enough with the One Party UNIP run down economy state!

George Bush has a good legacy of starting the Presidential The Millennium Challenge Account of which Zambia is one of the countries in Africa which has benefited a lot and right now this money will be used to develop Lusaka this year.

  91. It has happened.
Wheather bad or good from either parties.
Its bad it happened this way either.
    Lets now forgive one another.
Lets now learn from our past mistakes.
Lets now lern from our possible perceived weaknesses.
We all make mistakes without knowing perception of others.
When we do light moment, others perceive it as humiliation.
When we try to correct elders in public, that also is bad.
Lets not score public points on others perceived mistakes.
Its bad it happened this way.
    Lets forgive one aonther.
Lets show good example to young generation.
    We eanestly need American support.
Please America, forgive us. We need you.

  92. Does President Sata ever heard of cultural shock? That is what he did to George Bush when he passed his irresponsible comment in the presence of George Bush!

Sata and his PF missed an opportunity now he will go in the diplomatic circles and history like the way Idi Amin used to react to President and other governments:>ERRATIC person!

Surely what Sata and his PF should have done was to to learn about George Bush’s American culture background regarding jokes before passing jokes he claimed he was having a light moment!

Sata needs to know that he made President George Bush to have a cultural shock of his erratic behavior because Bush does not know Sata on a personal level so Sata should not have passed the irresponsible comments he said to George Bush!

  93. I totally agree with those saying that this statement was not dictated or even had any input from President  Sata. This is just pure reaction from George Chellah and Fred Mmembe because the language used and the picture portrayed in Zambia daily Mail is not something an over 70 year old man would find pride in.

I intensify my call. Mr President, can you fire that Kid called George Chellah as your press Aid and get somebody knowledgeable and befitting that office and there a lot of capable Zambians who can step in that position and execute silently brilliantly. Am sure Mr Chikwanda can advise appropriately on this matter

  94. It seems that anyone who criticises Sata’s despotic regime is guilty of plunder and is threatened with arrests. Zambia is a democracy and no devil will reverse that.

  95. What Micheal was purely a joke if you read between the lines and jokes make sense when done in PUBLIC .Micheal that was right time and Place SHAME to Ba Banda ………….SHAME

  96. Mr Sata and Chella this is a sad way of saving face. What you have done in the last ten months in power has never been done since independence. No head of state has chouted another country’s political slogans at an international meeting, no head of state has ever ever thought America did rule Africa and Zambia in particular. We have never at any one time be so embrassed as a people as you have done in the last ten months. For sure fili ekotuleya, kabucha uletatunji…

  97. Even if i walked down one end of Cairo Road to the other stark naked at peak hour i would not feel as ashamed as i do over Mr. Sata’s lack of tact and culture.

  98. ITS CHIMBUYA BETWEEN RB & KING COBRA.WHO DOES NOT KNOW THAT. WHEN KAYULA SATA DIED DURING CHURCH SERVICE SATA POINTED AT HENRY AND SAID THAT RB WAS HIS FRIEND AND HE DOES NOT HATE HIM BUT WHAT DIVIDES THEM IS JUST POLITICS.

  99. I feel ashamed to be called a Zambian under Mr Sata s leadership. No diplomacy at all,may be its lack of education, these are the side effects of having a president who is not educated.

  100. Well done Mr.President for answering back to Mr. former president Chintelelwe’s hallucinations. This is what we have been waiting for,I don’t see any wrong in your statements with Mr.Bush those are facts even my toddler chap knows it happened.Ta kalabwa kakunyelele bane….

  101. Zoona President uyu lishilu. I now agree with what Chief Bootlicker used to tell us. Bush is doing that out of love of Humanity and our Grade 4 president must start hurling insults on him. I feel embarrassed as a Zambian. 5 years is too far next polls, we don’t need such a person in State House. I now know why FTJ didn’t pick on him.

  102. IT WAS A LIGHT MOMENT INDEED .I HAVE BEEN ON A FUEL QUEUE FOR 2 HOURS NOW! INDEED WE NEED LIGHT MOMENTS TO LIGHTEN UP OUR HEAVY LOADS.

  103. You see, you people, it pays to read widely and get other people’s views and thinking.
Look at how people from other countries view this issue of BUSH vs SATA – the war of words. Here is a link to The Telegraph UK:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/zambia/9381583/George-W.-Bush-berated-by-Zambias-Michael-Sata-on-Africa-trip.html

Why is it that out of all places in the world which were colonised, including Singapore, Hongkong, malasia, canada, ireland, india, african countries, etc only African countries cry the blame game while the rest are developing?????????

    • Africans are good at the blame game. One would think that African countries were the only ones that were colonised. Other countries like India and China have moved on and are developing, here people still want to blame colonialists for their failures. Current Govts will blame the the previous govts for problems they fail to solve. Africans will never progress because they have a good excuse not to: colonialism, even after 40, 50 years. two hundred years from now they will still blame colonialism

  104. RB WAS NOT THE BEST PERSON TO APPOLOGISE FOR US OR INDEED THE PRESIDENT. IF HE FELT THE JOKE WAS OFFENSIVE,HE SHOULD HAVE CALLED THE PRESIDENT WHO WOULD HAVE ISSUED AN APPOLOGY TO GWB…BUT IT WAS NOT APPROPIATE FOR RB TO COME IN OR BETTER STILL HE COULD HAVE INVOLVED BA KK THROUGH THE FORMER PRESIDENTS OFFICE…PERIOD

  105. It is puzzling that Ba Sata can accuse George Bush of being a colonialist when history reveals that Ba Sata was never a freedom fighter, but a full-time shu shu shu who worked for the British colonialists. You just have to brouse all books that cover the history of Zambia, Central Africa and Southern Africa, you will be amazedd that Mr. Sata has not been documented as one of those that fought for independence in Africa. Sata thrives on lies and deception. Mmembe and Mugabe his friends know deep down that Sata worked for the colnialists. When you try to access unique papers of the 1950s and 1960s, such as “African Life” and “Central African Examiner” etc, Sata’s name does not feature anywhere. Living veteran writers such as Sikota Wina and Vernon Mwanga will confirm this observation.

  106. The truth always pains, WHY CANT BUSH APOLOGISE ALSO? This was a light Moment nothing to be blown out of proportion. When someone says the truth, people will always condemn, this is why we cannot develop because we are in a society of pretenders but doing bad in darkness. Tell it straight and move on.
RB is fo.olish and should learn to consult before passing silly statements on behalf of ZAMBIANS. WHY didn’t Kaunda do the same?? Is he the only Fmr Zambian President?? BOOT Leaker.

  107. Without going into whether what Sata said was appropriate or not, RB has no right whatsoever, to take it upon himself to purport to be speaking on behalf of Zambians. Where does he come in, in this equation? Regardless of what was said, RB has undermined the President’s authority. Even if the Americans had complained, it wouldn’t have been up to RB to issue a grovelling apology. In what capacity? Who does he think he is?

  108. If president Bush called Mr. Sata an “Ignorant Gorilla” and turned around to say he was just joking because of his special relationship with him, I’d take exceptional offense to such a joke. The president of Zambia should know what is and what is not appropriate. This kind of joking goes beyond the pale of what is deemed presidential. Worthy of being archived for future international studies on ‘How not to joke as a president.’

  109. The president should remember that he is a president and everyone listens when he speaks. As such he should ensure that what he says in not misinterpreted.or misunderstood by those listening to hear. A Communicator should ensure that the message sent is as clear, that the audience and context have been analysed. The problem is that people (leaders especially) say things without thinking about how what they say is going to be interpreted!!!!!!!!!!!!

  110. Why is it that every time someone comments or criticises PF or Sata threats start pouring all over the place? A public figure is at the mercy of the people and should have a thick skin and ignore some comments

  111. By: flatulent_emmissions ” I’m a keen reader of the African press. I’m heartened to see the rise in voices from Africans demanding an end to the blame game, tribal politics and cronyism.

On the flip side, there’s still an undercurrent of blame from many commentators and articles around the evils of the white man.

Ignoring the obvious racism, there’s a common language used to frame the argument. ‘The rape of Africa, the theft of natural resources, colonialism used to mean any kind of injustice, rather than the actual settlement of lands and the old favourite of ‘having a colonialist mindset’

Common language is also used toward any African who doesn’t agree with the blame game,

  112. Cont…..You’ll hear about kissing the white mans a**, sucking up to the master, worshipping the foreigner and so on.

The debate has festered through the social taboo of racism.

I’m not in the least bit worried about being called a racist, so I think we should move the debate on.

I’d like to understand exactly what was taken from Africa by way of mineral resources, human beings and transportable wealth, what was exchanged for it and with who.

Clearly the colonies created actual wealth from potential wealth, but was this inevitably exported, or was it retained in country?

  113. Cont…..I understand that many consider that the slave trade was the most damaging to Africa. A fair point. Do we know how many freed slaves took up the offer of travelling back to Africa, to Liberia or Sierra Leone Vs how many chose to remain where they were?

I’ve absolutely no doubt that Africas current poor situation is due to Africans, rather than what Europeans did years ago, and as I mentioned at the start, many Africans are also waking up to the potential rewards for taking responsibility for their future.

I’d like to see the numbers, facts and positioning of an argument that will help Africans fight off the lazy, racist arguments that excuses the failure of the continent to step in to the light.” I found this interesting analogy

  114. Pastor Mumba seems to have a very high and misguided oppinion of himself. Does he think we already forgotten how his ‘toxic’ corrupt party MMD bankrupted Zambia morally and economically. His personal image is under question. How about publishing the audit of his tenure at the Canadain embassy? Pastor Mumba, how about taking personal responsibility and corporate responsibility. We are were we are becaouse we have pastors such as Mumba. He needs to show a good example and kneel and ask for public forgiveness from Zambians. President Mwanawasa died trying to put Zambia on a path to progress.Give PF a chance you had twenty years of long nice english but zero results. You and President Banda are such a let down for Zambia. Your sense of wrong and right are warped.
