Zambia Police probe Koffi Olomide for allegedly assaulting a journalist

Congolese musician Kofi Olomide

THE Zambia police service has instituted investigations into Congolese rhumba musician Koffi Olomide alleged assault of a freelance journalist on Friday.

Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kajenla confirmed in Lusaka yesterday that police were on the ground to investigate the matter before they could make a move.

Olomide is alleged to have assaulted photojournalist Jean Ndayisenga commonly known as Mandela for allegedly kicking him in the face as he tried to take photographs of the musician after a live performance at Pamodzi hotel.

Ndayisenga reported Koffi for assault at Kabwata police station but the case has been transferred to Lusaka Central police.

But Ms Kanjela yesterday said in an interview that police has started probing the matter.

Koffi arrived in the country on Wednesday for two performances in Lusaka before moving to Kitwe for another show at Moba hotel today.

  1. This man is a known pervert and rapist in Paris. Why does Zambia continue to allow scam like this bleach skinned Congolese to enter the country?

The problem with Zambian mentality is that anything foreign is better. Lwenu

  2. Recently, Congolese burnt a Zambian truck driver to death, and now Koffi Olomide is alleged to have assaulted a journalist at Pamodzi hotel. Anyway, Zambians are docile.

  3. These so called freelance photo journalists, they only take pictures from musical shows of female underwear & sell to the POST. Koffi, you did well to kick the burger, ok!!!  I hope he lost some teeth too for trying take pictures of underwear of your dancing queens on behalf of the POST.

  4. he he he he Koffi in trouble. a jounalist trying to make economical capital out of Koffi.

Koffi welcome to the new Zambia under Ukwa.

That is One of Ukwas thugs u kicked.

  5. This diabolical thief needs 2 b caged, last tym it was rape, the other human trafficking ,tax evasion and now assault, wats so special abt this known satanist that u allow him 2 enter our christian nation.Dr jere shud lock up de scoundrel and swallow de keys.koffi my ass

    • They like his music not out of stage incidence… Just wait you will see the same people helping him leave the country without a case to answer :((

  6. Honestly Zambia why should koffi still allowed in the country? He is an old expired chap still fighting to collect the last coin. Why didn’t you celebrate with your locals than that world wide condermed thug? Zambia pls !

  7. this is useless and i dont even like his music, here we go again as Zambians supporting this criminal against our own, shame on you supporting this rapist.

  8. Zambians ! variety is always good, those that like him will go watch, others broke may see there local band in kalingalinga, there must be something wrong he did to be kicked, however just talk and get paid jean, good strategy enjoy the fastive season..

  9. I have an insatiable hatred for rumba music . Why listen to something some of you don’t even understand, atase. Most of you derive joy in those bottom-wriggling prostitutes called dancing queens. They stink like skunk because they sweat a lot. Send him back to Congo.

    • True, but remember that there are people who migrated from Luba-Lunda who understand the language. And there are those who have learnt French and understand what these guys sing. I have to say; I have an insatiable love for rhumba, and its the only music i listen to because its real african music; so one mans meat is …..

    • 17.2: Typical. Are you the benchmark for one to be multi-lingual? If you dont hear what they say, then dont assume everyone does not. I personnaly do. In fact I have plenty friends from Congo who can even inteprete anything i dont understand. Just like I would ask a Lozi speaking friend to do the same for a PK Chishala song “Nakulata” because i know no silozi at all except saying hello.

  10. It’s inconceivable and beyond comprehension that in one breathe, we are on a big fight against rapists and defilers, trying to keep our girls and women safe, strangely in the other breathe, we allow monsters like koffi, a proven rapist, human trafficker, etc into our country and even accord him a heroes welcome…. My foot!

What kind of people are we?
Don’t we have enough local music to listen and dance to the we have to bring criminals into the country? Who still listens to rhumba in Zambia anyway?
Bushe ubupuba bukapwa Lilali mu Zambia?

  11. HONESTLY,I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY WE ALWAYS BRING THIS GUY TO ZED CONSIDERING HIS NASTY RECORD. ANY MWINE MUSHI ‘LOOT CAUSE’? NO WONDER WE DONT APPRECIATE OUR MUSIC.

  12. The backwardness us Zambians show especially in dealing with foreigners is disgusting. This Koffi is a known sex thug who should not be allowed to perform in this country at the expense of our own musicians. Most Congolese generally have criminal genes. I dont trust them at all.

  13. Kick them for they are useless and will not take you anywhere. It is a pity how us Zambians get persecuted by foreigners in our own country. This issue with Koffi is nothing compared to what is happening in Kamwala shopping area. People ignore evils happening and want to pursue Koffi. Zambians are so disorganized and an be treated in any way one wishes, if they take you to police just offer them money and you are off the hook!

  14. Am glad Kofi can not travel to Europe where he is wanted for criminal charges. In Zambia under dictator Sata any thing goes. Hear some PF MPs patronise dancing clubs to boast of PF governance.

    • Koffi used to come to Zambia even before Sata became president and the MPs used to patronise dancing clubs. So don’t be petty mate.

  15. At one time this man was being pursued by Zambia Police as a result of a warrant issued by Interpol. What happened to the arrest warrant? Koffi and others must understand that journalists are only doing their work. As irritating as journalists may be, violence against them is acceptable. We should be proud of the fact that journalists can freely ply their trade in our country, unlike other countries where they arrest and murder journalists. Remember how exercised we all were when Chansa Kabwela of The Post was arrested by RB’s government for exposing the state of maternity services at the UTH?

  16. #1 YOU ARE SPOT-ON ON ANY OTHER SENTIMENTS. BUT YOU ARE WRONG ON “…ANYTHING FOREIGN…”. CONGOLESE ARE WORLD CLASS ARTISTS. THEY ARE HIGHLY TALENTED AND VERY INNOVATIVE MUSICIANS. IN FACT IF THIS WORLD WERE FAIR- THEY ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD, SERVE FOR BLUES AND JAZZ MUSICS. ON THE ZAMBIAN SCENE- ZAMBIAN MUSICIANS ARE CRAP. THEY ALWAYS WANT TO COMPLETELY IMITATE THE WEST AND IN A WRONG WAY. HAVING SAID THAT, THERE’S A HANDFUL OF ZAMBIAN MUSICIANS WHO ARE WORLD CLASS SUCH AS UNCLE REX, MUTINTA, ETC. SO, DEAL WITH KOFI’S ASSAULT CASE IN ISOLATION FROM THE CONGOLESE TALENT. OF COURSE HE MUST BE FULLY ANSWERABLE FOR ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTING SOME WHO WAS EVEN ON TOUR OF DUTY.

    • Well they have some talent but not necessarily world class. Why is it that when a Congolese produces a video, they have to do it in Paris and not Congo? Why is it that when a Congolese song is played in a night the majority of those who rush to the dance floor are prostitutes? Why is it that when a Congolese appears on a video they are overdressed and wear jewerly weighing 25kg? Zambian artists aim at passing a message to the audience whilst appropriately dressed and in home grown videos

    • Well said zambian music cannot be compared to rhumba. They perform live better than our artistes who just insert a disc and start to sing along. Our friends are so talented hence the jealousy by all those whose private parts itch each time they hear ‘bolingo’..congo music is the best in Africa. Koffi merely kicked that ***** because he wanted to capture naked images when they were changing backstage just to tarnish his already troubled reputation. LONG LIVE LE GRANDE MOPAO MOKONZI. Quadra kora man four kora awards not a joke. Those who don’t appreciate ni ndoshi.

  17. @24:Peter is very right; or shall I say i concur with his opinion. If Koffi kicked the guy let him face the law. But to discredit his music because of this one incident is unfair. In the western world, if you check stern’s music you will see that this man has sold out nearly each ulbum that he releases. The closest Zambian artist on the international scene was K’Millian or Salaka Brothers. Ok, call us congolese, and we shall accept because we know our roots are from there. But I cannot stand an imitation of 2Pac, R-Kelly or the like; sang by a Zambian, never. Amayenge cultural ansemble; Sakala brothers, Angela Nyirenda, yes I would buy. or Tswana traditional, Tuku music, yes; but hey thats my taste; and I would have paid to go see all his shows had I been home. Nga wafulwa lobe!!

  18. Kick him out of our country period……in France is banned simple no entering Zambian’s very good stupid pipo ati 250pin per ticket…in

  19. Kick him out of our country period……in France is banned simple no entering Zambian’s very good stupid pipo ati 250pin per ticket…in Congo there pay like 50pin to watch him if he is lucky?

  20. Koffi Olomide, I wish u killed that PF cadre. Next time aim for the throat. I enjoyed your dance and please come back soon, we you to instill some discipline in these gate crashing PF jonaulists.

  21. …I was once told off in 1991 by a Zairean Boarder guard at Kasumba-Lesa Post that; “Munthu wa-Zambi ali navintu vibili, “kukengela elyo nakutumpa”…. Little wonder therefore that we are seen to tolerate these so-called musicians. Indeed like one blogger has correctly observed; why do we take foreign crap as better? Guy Scott says it too about our Zambian Coffee…

  22. Bloggers don’t just lookn at one side of the coin. This photojournalist called Jean Ndayisenga, a refugee from Ruanda harassed Congolise musician by taking photographs backstage which Koffi thought was private.

  23. Just boycott his shows amd see how this bleached banyamulenga will fast leave the country,Zambian’s come on now we can do better than this loser….

  24. We dont know the truth. koffi will react if u push him against the wall. there more rapist in zambia than u can imagine. he is high profile musician and he is not going to be arrested for sure. zambians are addicted , love rumba like crazy and not ichiselema music.

  25. I was in zambia recently and went clubbing. dj played zambian music the dance floor was half full. when dj  played koff, the whole floor was full. the truth hates. you cannot beat quality. if you cannot beat them, join them. there malawian musicians living in zambia, so what.

  26. @Boko Aram. Precisely. A refuge from Rwanda, Jean… Probably in the pay or employ of some dubious character(s), or organization(s), out to gather material against Koffi. We know these things!

  27. Truth b told.fellow Zambians u r worse at hypocrise and self deniel. While kicking de brat was not right he should listened to wat he was told.Economical capital indeed! Wat music can u talk about with de current youth?PLASTICS,PLASTICS! IFYAKUKOPA !

  28. I advise ZP not to even issue any statements concerning this issue because anyway they always fail (they only arrest Nervous Mumba & HH). Mark my words. I do not recall any ZP success stories. Its free riding in ZED. I mean think of it in less than 2 years they had an Interpol warrant concerning Koffi nothing happened. They knew he was coming again nobody questioned his case be it current or previous. Libongani etc you should have at least gone to night school to learn at least the survival skills of the job. Its like our fire brigade service it is probably the waste in the world.\:d/

    • He left the country. Like wrote here. Libongani and the entire ZP bane who do you represent? I told you guys earlier that these guys only HH & Mumba. You guys are less than nothing.

    • Koffi left the country again. Like I wrote here earlier. Libongani and the entire ZP are crap. Bane who do you represent? I told you guys earlier that these guys can only arrest HH & Mumba. You guys are less than nothing.

  29. On the other hand journalism ya manje pa ZED ya ma gossip and character assassination. How can some 50 year plus old chap kick you in the face? Hard to believe. I mean is Jean whatever so old that he can’t open his eyelids? Was this a calculated capital move?

  30. People this is very disappointing. I just bought an old song of his which is a favorite mine. Had I read this article before I went on Amazon dot com, I wouldn’t have supported him with my ninety-nine cents. Now I won’t look for his music on either Amazon or You Tube. Good bye Fiko. I mean Koffie.

  31. this is grand mopao mukonzi kofi olomide,am coming to zambia for 3 big shows, slaping ,kicking and dancing. i love u all, zambia is my country and its in my heart
