Government has signed two road reconstruction and upgrading contracts worth KR187.6 million (K187.6 billion) for selected roads in Ndola and Kitwe.

Local Government and Housing Permanent Secretary Bernard Namachila said the contracts have been signed with Bicon Zambia Limited and Ng’andu Consulting Limited to carry out designs and construction of 24 selected roads in Ndola and Kitwe at a cost of KR69.3 million (K69.3 billion) and KR 118.3 million (K118.3 billion) respectively.

Mr. Namachila told ZANIS in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday that Bicon has engaged Jizan Construction Limited and Copperfield Mining Service as main contractors and Crocodile Construction as sub-contractors while Ng’andu Limited has engaged China Geo-Engineering Corporation as the contractor.

He revealed that 12 selected roads of 20.9 kilometres (km) in length will be upgraded in Ndola and another 12 roads of 20 km will be rehabilitated and upgraded in Kitwe.

He said the works on these roads will include construction of drainage systems and concrete slabs on household access roads and road junctions.

The Permanent Secretary said government decided to work on the urban roads in the two cities because the roads had deteriorated to unacceptable levels while in some cases road designs needed to be upgraded to meet modern standards.

He disclosed that the consultants and contractors would be on site within 28 days adding that the ongoing works were part of the 8000 Link-Zambia project that was launched by President Michael Sata late last year.

Among the roads to be worked on in Ndola are Ndeke North Boundary, Mwasumina, Chikola Crescent, Dola Hill, Chilubi, Kaloko, Nyerere/Kanu, Chilyamitondo, Luapula, Ndibu/Mitengo/Mwata Kazembe, Fintente and Chinyika/Shinde roads.

In Kitwe the roads to be worked on are Dury-Lumumba, Chandamali, Emmanuel Mulemena, Lufunsa, Nachibungulubwe, Lima clinic, Chishimba, Kaunda Square, Kalondeteka, Nkana east –Ndeke, Government and Kawama.

  1. thats a good idea i hope this time they will make a completly roads not the way they left stones here in chifubu it means nothing to us although to u its roads to us its nothing

  2. As much as this is a very good develoment by the government, I feel that the number of roads being rehabilitated in Ndola is not enough. There are other worse off roads in Ndola which need serious works, especially in Northrise such as Macha, Kafupi, Mwatiyamvo to name a few.
Lets hope the government will consider doing all the roads in Ndola and Kitwe as they have done in Lusaka.

  3. Message to the Kitwe City council: You dont need Central government help to decongest the town and make traffic flow more easily.

    • Especially near shoprite, riverside station and that chisokone road, never take your car that side rather just go on foot

  4. Mr Shamenda now that u in Ndola please check on the roads. Tanzania and Fiyesu rds are really bad in nothrise and Luangwa, AnoyaZulu and Kabompo are very bad rds. Am wondering why there ve been ignored. Ba LT please send this to the Minister

  5. But what about the roads in Chingola, coz currently the road development in Kitwe and Ndola is much more advanced than in Chingola. Our two MP’s are so sleepy. Whilst their counterparts are busy signing road contracts they are busy doing what we don’t know.
Since PF came into Power they have not done a single road in Chingola, the two-three roads that have been done were worked on by KCM. I can assure the two MP’s that they will not be given the second chance to be MP’s coz they have shown us how stuck they brains are.

    • Yoyo you are right. Here in Solwezi its worse. Thers no road to talk about. All feeder roads are impassable. Before the rains the council had put heeps of red soil on some roads which has made them mudy and impassable. We need a deliberate policy to develop road infra structure in Solwezi with urgency. We can’t have a town contributing billions of money in the nation coffers but detoriarating at an alarming rate

  6. In Ndola we need Lowenthal, Kaloko/mushili commando, Petauke, James Phiri, Macha, Tanzania, Fitente, Lupili, Ndeke road, Kariba and especially many township roads in Northrise, Itawa and Kansenshi. Even Mitengo or Mufulira road is baaaad!
Afterall Ndola is the best planned town in Zambia and very easy to maintain. good muv PF, credit should be given where it is….

  7. It’s true what YOYO is saying. Ba Simuusa promised us that before the on set of the rains most roads will done, he further said he had reserved K50 billion for the roads in Nchanga but the only thing K50billion has done is to dig potholes along MPHAKA Drive. Can this MP of ours show us some kindness and committment and not just planting tress everyday. Awe kwene niba Dull man.

  8. Ok thats good news but there is need to extend the next project to Mufulira and other parts of copala. These ends roadwise have been neglected. development has always gone to LSk yet cash mane ifuma kuno…. Nomba batuminepo chi ‘RB Junction’ naifwe

  9. Good move, but the Kitwe City council should also consider relocating those police houses between Oxford road and Matuka avenue so that they can construct a modern local bus station around that area. This help to decongest the traffic in the central business centre of the town. The Kitwe city council can built houses in the riverside and Nkana east police camps respectively to accommodate the family that will be affected. There is enough space particularly in Riverside police-senior camp area that can accommodate affected families. And the council will be generating revenue from the ultra modern bus station that will built. As the situation stands at the moment one should think twice to drive his/her vehicle through the congested Kitwe town centre roads.Let us add built to the lovely town .

  10. This is good indeed. PF don’t just announce but do the real job bane. Also not those useless roads RB did but we want strong roads which are tared properly and not painting as RB and MMD were doing. Again PF listen good, don’t steal our money in the manner MMD and RB did, otherwise we will jail you after 2016.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  11. Iam sure we all know that its not possible to do everything at once! Lets give PF time and space to bring back our infrastructure to life! This culture of condeming just for the sake of condeming will not take us anywhere! Lets go PF! Shame your critics!!!!!

  12. This is a good start in Ndola, however, I would like to say all the roads in Northrise are bad, they need to be worked on. If Fitente is being considered then all the artery roads such as Katutwa should be paved because a number of people use this route to get into town Center. In addition, it will help to decongest traffic leading to city Centre.

  13. For the roads to reach the kind of deterioration they are in now means we have had no govt, central or local for the past 30 years. All the copperbelt towns roads which Welensky left in very good condition are now decayed. Noone did any maintenance and we the people tolerated such useless govt!

  14. Kaloko road ku Kansengu yena mwalosha mwe, you actually got a lot of votes from Bwana Mkubwa contituency because people wanted the New MP to tar Kaloko Road, it is such a vital road for Mushili Kansengu residents, let them enjoy their share of the national cake. VIVA PF

  15. If there is an area which badly needs attention in Ndola where roads are concerned, it’s surely Northrise!

Its a disaster in those parts, i hate going there actually,…but i have in – laws who i have to check on once in a while,….!

Yes, i would have also loved to see them do the roads like the way Lusaka is been done,…!

So much work needs to be done,… this is just a drop! But better than nothing!

  16. somebody pliz hurry and see what is being constructed between nkana east and ndeke,it is being done right inside the ditch, expand the stretch between mukuba house and nkana east traffic lights so as to make it a double lane and pliz put robots or roundabout at kazembe road junction.

  17. Good news about reconstruction of the roads in Copperbelt region.
