The Zambia Postal Services (ZAMPOST) and Trust Company of Japan will next week officially launch an online sales agency for buyers of second hand vehicles.
ZAMPOST Postmaster General Mcpherson Chanda revealed this in an interview Ndola yesterday.
Mr Chanda said ZAMPOST will effective June 3, 2013 start offering a convenient, cheaper and fast mode of payments for buyers of second hand vehicles from Trust company of Nagoya, Japan.
Mr Chanda said following clearance by the Bank of Zambia and successful negotiations held between ZAMPOST and Trust Company of Japan, ZAMPOST will be a sales and collecting agent.
Mr Chanda explained that this is an added financial service offered by ZAMPOST apart from local and international money transfer services under the Postal Services Act.
He said in the next few months ZAMPOST envisages to sign up similar sales agency agreements with other international reputable car dealers.
“With this solution, customers will therefore have an option between paying to the car dealers through the commercial banking channels or to come to ZAMPOST as the designated sales agent,” Mr Chanda said.
He explained that with the value proposition customers will pay 40% for fees paid through ZAMPOST in comparison to bank fees.
He explained that currently it takes a customer about five days to get confirmation of payment of receipt of funds by car dealers but that under ZAMPOST sales arrangement the customer will get confirmation from Trust Japan within two hours.
Mr Chanda also noted that the arrangement will further reduce on the number of Zambians being swindled of their money when clearing vehicles at border posts.
Good initiative zampost. Hoping it will be as convenient as you have put it
BUFI
Good move Zampost
Sounds good.I like it.
40% fees? This sounds good to you? I would rather wait the 5 days!
And risk being swindled ? Cheap things are expensive.
Ba “What?!”, you missed the point (not your fault though, I guess its chizungu chaba LT which mislead u).. Fact is Zampost will only be charging 40% of the transfer fees you currently pay commercial banks when wiring money to Trust Company to buy that corolla mudala! i.e if u pay KR700 surcharge to ZANACO to wire US$1300 to NAGOYE for your corolla, you will now only need to pay KR280 (which is 40% of KR700).
Kalebalika!
Kalebalika? Embarasing indeed. Mind you, this is only wth Trust Company. So, if the car you like is on Tradecarview this doesnt apply. This is rabbish.
Right step in the right direction!!
Sounds good! also bring on board other dealers from Japan. As you may be aware, Trust Company is on the Expensive side if you compare with Tradecarview or Beforward.
Trust Company vehicles inspected and cleaned before being shipped unlike Befoward and most sellers found on tradecarview.
For example if you buy a grade 4 vehicle on trust company, it is in very good condition.
I bought a Toyota Carib from trust i ve never repaired it for the past 3 yrs except for normal service, the cresta that came from trade carview developed engine problem after running for months. The Toyota Noah from Befoward failed to start in Dar and i had to look for an automehanic and we had to buy spares for it start
All of you saying this is good remember they are charging 40% fees! Unless its a typo, I dont see anything good about such a ridiculous service fee. Better to wait the 5 days.If you buy a car for $1500, they will charge you $600 just to make a payment.Either this article is riddled with errors, or they havent properly articulated whats in this deal.
You would pay 40% of the fees charged by banks. You will actually be saving money.
Yaba! Chizungu chi kubuta mudala! So you just saw 40% and made such a conclusion. I see no difference between you and ba kaponya who thought maize subsidy is a chemical millers add to maize when processing into wunga. Zoona education standards mu zed have gone bad!
You pay 40% less
ZAMPOST QUICKLY RECTIFY THE 40% ISSUE – MAY BE YOU MEANT 4% AS COMMISSION ?? IF IT IS INDEED 40% AS FEES OR COMMISSION GOODBYE
you pay 40% less than the charges you pay at the banks
Its amazing how finance and economics are foreign languages in Zambia..
Somebody says they will charge you 40% fee for waiting for 2 hours instead of 5 days and you say what a good deal
No wonder Ukwa is president
How did you pass that English text to go to Australia. Zampost said 40% of what you are currently paying the banks when send money to Japan. If the you bank charges you KR400, Zampost will only charge you 40% of KR400 which comes to KR160. Mu Zed muli masilu zoona!
Have you seen it written anywhere… ? The must have told YOU
LT writes, “customers will pay 40% for fees paid through ZAMPOST in comparison to bank fees”
Problem: syntax error in grammatical structuring of the sentence
suggested solution:revise sentence
Deductive Translation:
Key phrases:value proposition; customer pays 40 %; for fees paid through ZAMPOST, comparison to bank fees.
Since it is a value proposition, we assume the goal is to increase market share and bench mark the transaction fees(for fees paid through ZAMPOST) 40%(customer pays 40 %) of the current bank fees charged(comparison to bank fees) to wire money by potential car importers
Hence one pay 40% of current bank fees ie
ZAMPOST fess = ( Bank Fees)*0.40…..”for fees paid through ZAMPOST in comparison to bank fees.”
But zoona you are a dull man. I guess you are Bemba. Too much chibemba. You mean you never did comprehension in grade 3. Read this again and again. “He explained that with value proposition customers will pay 40% FOR FEES PAID THROUGH ZAMPOST IN COMPARISION TO BANK FEES.”
I phoned Zampost. They say it is 40% less transmittance costs or money remittance costs when u use ZAMPOST than the other Banks.
So it is a saving on the buyer.
Is it 40% less or 40% of the bank fees?
If it is 40% less Bank Fees then one is expected to pay ~ (Bank Fees)/1.40 compared to
40% of Bank Fees then one is expected to pay ~ (Bank Fees)*0.40.
So which is which?
All of u saying 40% is expensive blah..bla..bla are missing the point (not your fault though, I guess its chizungu chaba LT which mislead u)..
Nvetsetsani!
40%, okey before i can make a comment either way, i do think think zampost always being the considerate ones in fees and commissions will explain this away. for 40% they will deliver the car to your doorstep!!!!
Zambia gets better and better everyday with PF at the helm!
There is something quite progressive about ZAMPOST these days!!
Also heard something about a possible micro finance services as well…..!!
WAY TO GO!
Tradecarview & Beforward the quality of vehicle they are rakes.
Zampost hope you workers who used to stealing parcels from overseas will not start stealing money from customers.Personally i can not use them ,they are thieves .They must sort out the mail sorting first it is very annoying that whenever a small parcel is sent from overseas it does not reach the recipient ,you all have long fingers at Zampost.Zedians in the diaspora are spending a lot of money on courier services like DHL,FEDEX and the like just to ensure that parcels get delivered to their friends and relatives.Improve before you start over services please.
Of late I have liked managerial skills of post master general. He is taking Zampost to higher heights. He is bringing in skills and expertise in Zampost. He is very innovative.
My friend, you call someone advocating for Second Hand cars an expert? We can think better than this. May be you need to travel to know the benefits of new cars. Companies must start engaging companies selling new cars so that you can start buying new cars not these things you are talking about.
Best news today
I do not think this is best news at all.
Anyway, we think differently but I dont think this is good news at all. Stop burying yourselves gents! Travel and you will see that we are way behind. Travel and see a new Corolla, BMW, Merc etc and you will be wondering why we are so cursed. Lets leave this mentality.
Zambians please read and understand before posting and look damn. This is what Lusaka Times wrote… With the value proposition customers will pay 40% for fees paid THROUGH ZAMPOST IN COPARISON TO THE BANK FEE.
Even after Sekuja explained like he is teaching a first grader…. no, you still come back and make yourself look stupid….indeed YO CAN’T FIX STUPID
Can someone explain to me in simpler terms? Thank you
These are the inter-company relationships we should be encouraging to give our consumers a better deal who have been ripped off for far too long. I can bet you if we did more research we could clinch an even better deal than this 40%…I mean the kind of low competitive charges our colleagues in Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria are enjoying at the moment. The banks will always rip people off if there is no competition from outside.
What Zampost are saying is that the Banks charge US$30 or kwacha equivalent to send the funds but them will charge 40% of the US$30. But Zambian be careful as Zampost may use a high exchange rate to convert Kwacha to US dollars or Yen as the case may be. It sounds nice if you have never imported a car from Japan. Also beware of Trust company they swap vehicles. You can buy a Rosa and receive a Nissan. They are also very arrongant. All companies in Japan stock good quality and poor quality cars. What matters is your budget. A Cheap car will require give you problems within a short period. Expensive car will not give you issues. Remember you also have to withdraw alot of cash from your Bank to take to Zampost which can be risk. It is better to deal with the Bank and wait for five days
Quite right my bro. If you want to buy a 2006 RAV4 for 15,000 USD (80,000ZMW), you have to withdraw all this to take to ZAMPOST. Thieves will start mapping out strategies. And who says everyone wants to buy from Trust?
Spot on…I wonder why we buy those cheap cars (sedans) from Japan when you can get better deals in England.
You can pay to Zampost using your Visa card. Why carry the cash. When depositing cash in my Zanaco account,I do that by swiping at Zampost, there are no queues.
I thought Zampost were trying to introduce credit cards in conjunction with the banks!
We all need cars, but I think we should start discouraging these used cars. Government and its parastatals must start finding ways of empowering citizens to own new cars by making sure more and more car assembly companies come into the country e.g. VW, Merc, BMW, Toyota (have been around just selling and no initiative). Lets discourage these used vehicles by offering credit facilities that can enable citizens buy new cars like the way it is in Botswana and South Africa. Unfortunately, most of these used cars are abandoned within 2 or 3 years and no recycling is in place. All the scarp is sent to South Africa or other countries. I also have a used car but I dont think this should be encouraged.
So what are saying? Are used cars here to stay? We should be thinking of leaving this trend as a people. Ba Macpherson, thats cheap thinking by a CEO. You can do better than this crap!
Ba Importer
how many people can afford a brand car in Zambia? The cheapest brand new car costs £7,250+ and this is a small 1200 cc engine, the 1800cc to 2L cost £14,000+. You are the selfsame people who complain about why we don’t manufacture actual brand vehicles in plants based in Zambia not knowing what it entails.
I agree. We cannot start immediately to buy brand new cars but we should be seen to be making efforts to start doing so. There is no way companies can be encouraging this. We cannot continue to be a dumping place. We dont even have recycling policies in place.
So what are we saying? Are used cars here to stay? We should be thinking of leaving this trend as a people. Ba Macpherson, thats cheap thinking by a CEO. You can do better than this crap!
JAY JAY, tell me….What is better making efforts to have more used cars here or making efforts to move away from them? Even the longest trip starts with one step…
Zambians, we should not be rejoicing about 2nd hand cars some of them are even 3rd or 4th hand… Government should consider extending the initiative they are giving bus drivers to ordinary Zambians who can afford to buy a brand new cars where it will be you removing those plastics. There is nothing exciting about a used car, lets change our mindsets as a nation and give ourselves a target say 5 years… no more used cars from outside. its so demeaning to continue thinking that this is okay. NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!
the longest distance starts with one step indeed..
This sounds good .promise to be very efficient and reliable and this will reduce a lot of thefts during the whole process.kindly send me more information on the whole process in full.
Good idea
Things are happening at ZAMPOST! Good initiative! Big ups to management, I think we have a great team at Zampost, Great minds! Great ideas! Keep it up!!
