MINISTER of Defence Geoffrey Mwamba has called on Zambians to guard against tribalism and other forms of discrimination.

Mr Mwamba said Zambians should learn to co-exist and promote peace and unity.

“The foundation of our country rests on the principle of one Zambia, one nation in which all people are free regardless of tribe and colour,” Mr Mwamba said.

Speaking when he officiated at the Nsakwa Yaba Kaonde traditional ceremony in Kasempa yesterday, Mr Mwamba said culture and tradition must be preserved as it is a mode of identification.

Mr Mwamba said Government attaches great importance to traditional ceremonies because they are vital to national development.

He said a country that ignores traditional values and culture is as good as dead.

Mr Mwamba said Zambia is what it is today because of the long preserved values that ancestors have passed on through traditional ceremonies.

He said Government values traditional leaders and sees them as partners in development hence the creation of the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs.

The minister also called on people to guard against early marriages and ensure that boys and girls have equal access to education.

He said gender-based violence has remained a major problem in Zambia and there is need for concerted efforts to address the problem.

And Mr Mwamba said North-Western Province has potential to develop economically in sectors such as agriculture, mining, tourism and forestry.

He said the province is poised to become a major economic zone due to its location.

“Government will construct 74 health posts in the province as a way of increasing health service delivery. Government is also determined to develop a viable road network in the province,” Mr Mwamba said.

Earlier, the ceremony was almost abandoned after fire gutted the kitchen at Chief Kaponda’s palace burning all utensils.

People scampered for safety and only returned after realising that the fire was not as bad as it seemed in the beginning.

It is believed that people at Chief Kaponda’s palace had deserted their cooking to witness the ceremony proceedings.

  1. The bembas really know how to hide their tribalism under the words…….spare us from your foolishness mr GBM we are not blind but can see the naked tribalism you and your minions are practising

    • @ King fisher,
i could have given you thumbs up had you not mentioned a certain tribe in your comment, just that is evident enough to suspect you as a tribalist, my dear there is every tribalist, racist in every human, what escalates or suppresses it is the evironment and current situations in our lives.
Some people are able to remain neutral what ever the circumstances, i just believe that mostly those who fell to deal with this sickness have bigger personal issues they cant face or deal with, tribalism is just as equal to such emotional conditions as jealous, anger issues, pathological lying, Alcholism etc, the best solution is to counsel people and make sure you keep them far from the temptations. I doubt it can be solved in Zambias case were poverty influence everything.

    • Why is it that politicians seem to be used to characterize the whole lot of people? There are about 6 million Bembas in Zambia and about 60 of them in government. How does this relatively small group of people become a reasonable representation of a whole lot of people?

  2. Hahahahaha. Tell that to your boss. The most tribalistic president alongside his tribesman Chiluba (May his soul burn in hell)

  3. Is this not the same man who said that only a Bemba should be MP for Kasama? I guess when he looks in the mirror he sees a slim defined body!

  4. That advise is just like a thief pretending he cares about herder’s keeping their cows yet he’s running the worst thieving mafioso.

  5. It is worrisome when we see only one tribe speak against tribalism and other tribes if at all are their in PF party are quiet and reluctant. Most of the advocates of chasing of chasing others from the party and beating up drum sport for SATA 2016 presidential preference are one tribe. I have not heard such names like Mbewe, Musole, Habwande, Malisopo, Kankomba, Mubyana, Shakalima, Mukosha and alike to say we hate tribalism but why it is that names like Musonda, Chanda, and Chishimba are the only outspoken and spokes persons of tribalism, and when it comes to violence they are the same names who are upfront? It clears indicate that one tribe is bigger than others.

  6. GBM is SHAMELESS LIAR. He said Mugala could not stand in Kasama because he was not Bemba. His fellow tribes men and women believed hin and he got that TRIBAL vote. What nosense is this coming from the ENDORSER? Saka yaunga

  7. This fat monkey is an irritant like his president, isn’t he the one who was alarming the nation that there was a group called tongas under oath killing bembas? your govt is the worst tribal gov’t in the history of our country!!

  8. That’s cheap coming from one of the most tribal demagog serving the most tribal party led by the most tribal president ever.
Don’t insult our intelligence Fat Albert. Like Bob Marley said once “you can fool some people some time but you can’t fool all the people all the time”.

  9. I sense that some ZWD bloggers, who blog on tribal lines, have invaded this site and are slowly trying to take hold. What is wrong with GBM’s message? Come on guys lets not criticize based on our political affiliations,GBM is speaking as a government official, not as a PF member and he is calling for unity but some people find that offensive. What then, did you want him to say to please you, lets start killing one another on tribal lines?

    • @Zamcab You are an amazing I.diot! The PF is practising the worst TRIBALISM this country has ever witnessed. Check appointments to PS, Cabinet Ministers, Foreign Service, Parastatals its all Bemba!!! This tribalism STINKS!!

  10. But why ar bembas pretenders? Atleast their heavy handed tribalism hs bin laid bare nw even my little boy knows that the cobra can only appoint bembas.
Only bembas can get favourable coverage frm znbc. And fat albert says no trabalism. Shame!

  11. It appears in Zed now perception is everything. Some of you will end up killing your mothers simply because they are not your father’s tribe (whose rich sister told you how evil your mother’s tribe is). Kupusa bati!

  12. But, GBM uses tribalism to hold on to his Parliamentary seat! Bembas use tribe/language to dominate other tribes in Zambia. Other tribes are colonised by Bembas in Zambia. Some tribes even feel shy to speak their own languages in public, while Bemba is spoken even in Government offices, very freely!

Other tribes in Zambia should not allow themselves to be oppressed and suppressed in their fatherlands. All should wake up and be proud of their heritage and not allow some squaters to subjugate them, even in their local territories and backyard gardens. Let all speak proudly and freely!

  13. See who is talking!!!!!!!!!!! wrong person in totality. GBM is a FOOLISH Tribalist number one in Zambia and does not deserve to talk about Tribalism and Wife Battering

  14. The Chief Tribalist is criticizing those who speak about the dangers of practising tribalism. You will never hear FAT Albert criticize those who practice tribalism Never!!

    • Mike learn to use you brains and apply your faculties to issues not tissues at hand, @ Cindy has clearly stated that everyone has a propensity to gravity towards tribal inclinations.
what is bad is to exaggerate small issues to profound proportions and call people names. Not all Bembas are tribalist like wise not all individuals be it Tonga, Lozi, Luvali Ngoni etc are tribalists. In trying to put up a point don’t dilute your argument to the point of sounding like ”Tribal Maneuvers Defender”. Tribalism is Deadly and in Zambia the peddlers of tribalism are Politicians both in Govt and in opposition. Take a look at our Churches there is not tribalism even most marriages are across tribes.
Tribalism is a Cancel! Practiced by Cheep minds with no love for Mother Zambia!

  15. I am lost in terms of my children’s tribe. I was born on the copper belt and my children were born in Lusaka.my parents were born up north and I have never been there and all my parents are dead what tribe do my children belong to.

  16. Do we have tribalism in all our churches, communities, work places and businesses as so many comments make me feel there is only one tribe (bembas) making others hell on earth? Let us be sober minded on this issue becuase some boys comment in the street the same way.
