Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has charged that the ministry of Finance is currently in wrong hands.

Commenting on Finance Minister’s Alexander Chikwanda remarks that the country is within sustainable growth and there is no possibility of failing in another debt trap, Ms Nawakwi says she is worried because President Michael Sata will have to bare the brunt of the country’s economic mismanagement.

Ms.Nawakwi said that by the time the Patriotic Front leave office, the country would have accumulated about 8.2 billion dollars in borrowing due to reckless expenditures.

Ms Nawakwi stated that it is only fair for President Michael Sata to persuade Mr. Chikwanda to retire and take into consideration that he is not relevant to the economic aspirations of the country.

Ms. Nawakwi has also challenged the ministry of Finance through the central bank to tell the nation how much is in the foreign reserves.

    • Nayo nayo na PF. At the moment each Zambian owes creditors $215. Once this figure doubles, then we’re done. It will be unsustainable!!

    • Nawakwi! Just shut your gob and go find Mulongoti, Mpombo and Shakafuswa and continue telling us how “terrible” MMD is….

      Shya!

  1. If Zambia’s debt becomes too high, Zambians should auction Mr. Sata’s and his entire family’s properties after he leaves office. This should include his presidential pension. It should be channeled towards servicing the external debt.

The other person who should not go Scot free is Alexander Bwalya Chikwanda. He messed up our lives when he was finance minister in the 1970s by borrowing carelessly. Now he is borrowing again. He and his family should be made to pay for his mistakes. These two old foooools do not care.

  2. How do u expect them to give us the amount in the Reserves when it all went to induced By Elections and Dr kaseba’s Tourist Flying

  3. I agree that Mr Chikwanda is irrelevant to the challenging economics of the 21st century. He is the one misleading the clueless Sata to say that there is nothing to worry about Zambia’s debt. Chikwanda should be reminded that he is in charge of the nation’s coffers not a family market vegetable stall. Let him retire now!

  4. It is generally unethical to attack predecessors in the media. Each government is free to do the best for the nation. New stadiums, new universities and new hospitals and new roads and many other new developments are causing panic in opposition ranks. Talk of new National Airlines, talk of a new look ZRL and ZamTel. Economic parastatal companies have a role to play in poor developing countries in a hurry to industrialize. PF is redefining the economic platforms and landscape with renewed vigor.

    • Talk about lack of transparency, single source tendering, un-recited expenditure, nepotism, financial misconduct, grand corruption……….

  5. Surely if people observe certain things that affects all Zambians, something should be done because if not then all the blame will be on the head of state, our dear President and his name will be tainted. It is high time Mr Chikwanda is removed from Finance ministry to give room for other new and vibrant minds to head that vital ministry. Our President will be spared to those unwarranted attacks fromgood for nothing fellows who are always bent on criticizing everything, including issues they don’t understand. Ms Nawakwi thank you Madam for your geniune thought.

  6. Don’ t worry ladies and gentlemen. What we are trying as PF government is ” try and error” scenario because we cannot meet all the monies and expenditures required to finance the various projects which came into being through pronouncement by the president. Whatever burden we are creating, you young ones will bear it because after all us old guards are about to go so you MUST pull up your socks.

  7. Edith, could you please tell us how we can develop infrastructure without borrowing and what achievements did you score as Minister of Finance then. As a Chinese proverb, The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.
We should not be ineffective for fear of borrowing, as MMD spent 20 good years with no record of proper infrastructure development. The Ndola- Kitwe dual carriage way, Provincial trades institutes, University of Zambia and Copperbelt were all built by Chikwanda and Unip.

    • She enriched her self bwana that’s all! Oh and brought fi ‘Nawakwi’ market lights. I wonder how her banana business is doing?

    • You forgot a few things: Chikwanda and UNIP left us with unbearable debt which MMD had to clear, also they left us with a dead economy while Chikwanda and KK amassed wealth.

    • Ba SK. Don’t lie to yourself MMD never cleared the debt but it was cancelled! Ever heard of Jubilee 2000 and others who lobbied for debt cancellation for HIPC countries?

    • Ba Chekov: I was trying to qualify what Ms Nawakwi said that “Ministry Of Finance is in wrong hands” its the same Chikwanda and team that lead us to collapsing of the economy and debt trap. Then the fact is that the debt was cancelled under the able hands of MMD administration. I have never liked MMD but you can put “Debt cancellation” under the list of 10 things MMD did to be proud of. Also you can talk about the exchange rate under Mwanawasa, MMD brought the exchange rate down. MMD also left us the development plans which they started implementing and PF is relying on it since they don’t have any strategy. My mother point is I agree with Ms Nawakwi that Chikwanda is a wrong one to handle Min. Of Finance

  8. yawn yawn….
But what did you Nawakwi and MMD do for Zambia? You were just busy stealing our money while the infrastructure was degrading at a lightening speed. Just give a pat on the PF GRZ period.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia

    • How can you know what MMD did when you were born 10 years ago. Ask your parents how they used to pond round sweets to use as sugar in their porridge. Ask them how they used to quee at Mwaisen Stores as early as 04:00 am with useless coupons in their hands just to buy wunga. Ask them how Lusaka used to look then. Its not Nawakwis job to teach you all these things. MMD did a lot for this country. Its just f.o.o.ls like you who won’t admit this fact.

    • How many Zambians managed to build themselves decent houses during UNIPs 27 years in power? It was only senior managers/directors of parastatals and ministers though under heavy scrutiny by KKs intelligence wing. Most Zambian workers used to live in dilapidated council/NHA houses till retirement. After retirement back to the village. Today a f.o.o.l like you can boast of owning a house in Makeni Villa compound.

    • J J well written. many are quick to forget that the first 100 % of our economic problems started with UNIP. the nest 100 % was Europe caused, but that God can easily help us solve. God can solve all those problems period. Now one can build their own house. Let us learn from our distorted history.

    • @J J. Please list 10 things that MMD did that makes you so proud of their time in government. What’s the point of having things on the shelves if you can’t afford to buy them? PS. I completed University during UNIP’s rule

    • Truth Hates: If they stole arrest them don’t just scandalise them. You have power as PF, unless you don’t what to do with it. I hate it when people are called thieves without reporting them to authorities. As for amassing wealth, everyone that has worked there as a Minister have made money for themselves, it is a lucrative ministry.

  9. Isnt this the lady who has been asking for a job from sata? I hear she wanted Sata to make her VP. I agree with her though on Chikwanda. The man has messed up his life and reputation by joining Sata. Sata cannot listen to anything or anyone unless it is Kabimba or Mmembe. So Nawakwi if you want the VP job go through Mmembe. The longer Chikwanda continues in PF, the more S.H.I.T he is sinking into. What a way to end.

  10. Nawakwi u went to sleep time u were Finance Minister. All these expenditures on infrastructure had risen from sleep and did only a quarter we wouldnt be punicking to day.But did we see in your time the same court proceedings from theft by your fellows that time far from investment but enrichment. And u cant mention all this coz u re shameless. Now PF is on punic to coverup our wasted time thru these projects & u u say carelees expenditure.Fooling who?Your failure & shame is haunting you surely!Check yourself.50 yrs poors roads, inadequate Schools, hospitals,no clean water supply, poor housing accommodation without power & rampant outbreaks of diseases? Can u keep quiet we want action not political insurbordination.Do u hear that?

  11. I am not a sympathizer of Panga Family but in all respects ABC is a lot better than Edith. Some of us were not kids when Edith was Finance Minister. She was a disaster. Edith can not be compared to ABC, politically, financially, business acumen, even morally. The woman is envious of ABC. Probably she had hopes of getting that job! No wonder the rantings.

  12. Let us borrow and borrow and develop our country. These debts will be written of some day. Let us emphasize accountability in our leaders that is all

  13. Nawakwi’s road to her farm is now tarred and her rickety truck is transporting her pigs in peace yet she has the audacity to insult the senior citizen for it, how ironic.

  14. I totally agree on knowing how much is in our reserves….. they never seem to give statistics fear of being checked…. EU commented the same

  15. “Ms Nawakwi stated that it is only fair for President Michael Sata to persuade Mr. Chikwanda to retire and take into consideration that he is not relevant to the economic aspirations of the country.” Like many have already stated, I too agree with Ms Nawakwi’s sentiments on ABC. I wonder, however, if Ms Nawakwi is also just as willing to acknowledge the reality that she is no longer relevant to the politics of the country, having failed both as Finance Minister and a leader if a political party?

  16. These I.d.I.ots know they will be DEAD the time we will reach the peak of struggling with these debts! The chaps don’t care! Their families are welloff!
