Forum for Democracy and Development spokesperson Antonio Mwanza stresses a point during the meeting to demand for the release of the draft Zambian constitution

The Forum for Democracy and Development says Wynter Kabimba will go down in the country’s history as the ” Arrogant Justice Minister who denied Zambians their constitution.”

FDD spokesperson Antonio Mwanza observed that Mr. Kabimba was a serious obstacle in the country’s quest for the new constitution and his firing should come with renewed hope in the fight for the release of the draft constitution.

Mr. Mwanza said the former Justice Minister arrogantly used his portfolio to block Zambians from having a meaning road map on the constitution making process and his sucking was long overdue.

“Honorable Wynter Kabimba has been a serious obstacle in our quest as the people of Zambia to have a people driven constitution.

“This the man who at every moment used his portfolio to block the people of Zambia from having a meaningful road map on the issue of the constitution and his firing is long overdue and we applaud president Michael Sata for removing Mr. Kabimba from his position,” Mr. Mwanza said.

Mr. Mwanza also said the firing of Mr. Kabimba should save as a timely warning to nominated MPs that they save as ministers at the preserve of Mr. Sata and that power should not get to their heads.

“This should save as a warning to those nominated MPs serving under president Michael Sata that they are saving at his preserve and that if they became as arrogant, that if they become as big headed like the way Wynter Kabimba was that their fate will be the same.

“People have to know and understand that power is temporal as a result we have to use power consciously and wisely.”

He added, “Honorable Wynter Kabimba will go down in our history as the most arrogant Minister the country has ever had but look at his ending; his ending has been very, very sad and shameful indeed.”

“Wynter’s fate should remind all of us never to put your life in the hands of another man. The mistake Wynter made was to put all his eggs in President Sata’s laps. Look, Wynter had no job apart from the jobs Sata gave him.

“He was a nominated MP, an appointed SG and appointed Minister. He had nothing of his own. Secondly, Wynter allowed the borrowed power to get to his head.

“He was all puffed up, arrogant and overzealous. In his drunkenness he saw himself as the next President from Sata,” Mr. Mwanza said.

  1. Winter Kabimba had a personal interest at stake. The new constitution would have made his quest for presidency through PF a nightmare.

    • The path Wynter took was clearly a return to a one party state. The abuse of office and citizens as cadres and abuse of government resources clearly points to a direction which was going to out PF on the path to the only party in parliament.

What he never realised is that the generation which could be monopolised is long way gone. This generation and the wind of change sweeping the worlds is beyond the fight for multipartysm, if they are fighting well tested democracies, you can be sure efforts to thwart voices of reason will finally give in. Zambians are very nice people but, can never be taken for granted forever.

  2. FDD should be able to direct their missiles accurately, surely you know that Sata is far much more arrogant and hooligan than Kabimba. The real culprit here is the president who has denied the Zambians their constitution. Please stop being such yellow cowards. The buck always stops at Sata.

  3. I fail to understand why you can foolishly believe that with Kabimba gone PF will give us the much awaited constitution. Who said we have a working constitution? It was Sata. Who talked about animal driven constitution? Sata. Nothing has changed in PF, we still have 1000 deputy ministers, you tell me what has changed, nothing. No policy change just one guy hated by the president and has been dropped the rest is the same.

  4. i am in a wonder country wondering why a number of zambian think that ‘the going of kabimba is guarantee t a new constitution…’.wait and see! ever heard of ‘power corrupts and blinds?’. the new justice minister, small as he, will sooner than later turn venomous after the hidden pipers start dectating the tunes

  5. Today’s Post editorial emphasises that Wynter has been 100% loyal to “Michael” and therefore should not have been dismissed in such a manner. The Post never ceases to amaze me! Don’t they know that failure to advise his president was an even bigger crime equal to treason? Look guys Wynter knew the human weaknesses of his president. The president requires courageous advisers and ministers to point out the follies of some of his impulsive decisions before he even carries them out. And Wynter simply encouraged him on! Look at “Michael’s” true advisors and loyal friends like Chikwanda, they guide the president away from danger. And the Post would like us to believe that loyalty is more important, ati King makers!!

  6. OK speaking of nominated MP, does it mean that his nomination to parliament has also been withdrawn? Can someone school me? The press release of his dismissal from Mr Chela didn’t say anything about the status of his nomination to parliament or is this implied or is by extension? I.e. because he is no longer a justice minister it means he is no longer a nominated MP?

  7. Stop putting words into government’s mouth. The official announcement did not state that Kabimba is being dropped because of the constitution. In any government, the leaders can come and then go. It is like listed companies at the Stock Exchange. Share can go up and shares can go down. The constitution is a national project. It requires fundamental agreement by key players on all the articles and sections to guarantee political stability and economic development. Certain key players raised questions about various issues, including minority rights, capital punishment, Christian Nation, etc. A conflict between English legal systems (Common Law) and European legal systems (Civil Law) was also apparent.

  8. Yes maverick. Just that. You are nominated as member of parliament because the president wants you to serve as minister. So you attend parliament to represent the ministerial portfolio for which you are appointed to. Elected MPs on the other hand need not necessarily be ministers because they come to parliament to represent their constituencies. It would be meaningless therefore for comrade (former honorable ) Winter Kabimba to remain in parliament when he represents no ministry and no constituency. I rest my case Maverick. I do hope this explanation gets into your thick head.
