MMD allegedly diverted civil servant’s salaries to Mufumbwe, Milanzi by-election

Share

United Party for National Development (UPND) Spokesperson has alleged that the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) government diverted the May salary for civil servants to Mufumbwe and Milanzi by-election.

Charles Kakoma told Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) on Wednesday that he had information that civil servants would get their salary on 15th May because government diverted for by-elections.

Mr. Kakoma said the situation has resulted into starvation among civil servants.

He said despite diverting their money to Mufumbwe by-election, the MMD lost the seat that it previously held to the UPND/PF pact.

However, Works and Supply Minister Mike Mulongoti said the civil servants salaries have been delayed because the accountants failed to do their job on time adding that it was not true that they would get their salaries on 15th May.

  1. The accountants failed to do their job on time . Lame excuse . Government ought to be a bit more serious.

  2. Has our hard working chief Government spokesman got answers to the following mysteries?

    1. How money meant to pay civil servants their April salaries temporarily vanish? The “delay” story can not be bought .

    2. What the two Kitwe senior police officers who perished (MTSRIP) were doing at a rail crossing and ran over by a train whilst in a private vehicle?

    3. How a huge Pontoon could vanish into thin air in full view of an armed police officer assigned to guard it at Kazungula ?

All sound like scripts from a “Super Story” soap opera!

  3. Deterioration in leadership : from feast to famine. The present administration is as useful to long-suffering civil servants as a third nostril. Mulongoti is too busy putting final touches to his mansion in Rockville (Chalala) to give a hoot about salaries.

  4. Can someone please track, i thought it is easy to look from the source, through the accounting chain and pinpoint where the diversion occured?
This is as important for the starving families as to the nation at large. Can father Bwalya please help, using the magical powers that killed his arresting policeman, if thats what it takes, please

  5. I bet chi Mulongoti got his salary on time. The MMD are taking Zambians for granted. They should ask KK what happened to him in 1991. Brains are there for a purpose Ba RB.

  6. What an allegation? Is he related to the former UNIP Youth and Sports minister Ben Kakoma? If he is, I can see that insanity runs in families or else they drank from the same well! How does a political party get government money to use in an election campaign? Is there no budget? He is MP so he could ask the question in parliament instead of lying to the Zambian people. Where is the law in Zambia? Such a serious allegation needs to be accounted for. If this is a lie, it poses a serious risk to peace and security and Mr Kakoma must be arrested!

  7. #7 Fr. Bwalya has no magical powers of his own. Christians are assured of the following :

“The Lord pays attention to the godly and hears their cry for help. But the Lord opposes evildoers and wipes out all memory of them from the earth.” (Psalms 34:15-16).

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12).

    AMEN !

  8. [-( I heard a doctor complain that they havent received salaries…maybe its a coincidence which seems to repeat itself whenever there is a bye election. Accountants didnt do there jobs??? This man thinks salaries are “politics”?

  9. Thats how things happen when a nation stop working. First most ministers are out of the country. Secondly why should salaries be delayed and you blame the accountants. That is not true I dispute that it is either a deliberate move to scare Zambians but in wrong way because hungry man is an angry man. This party has just hijacked itself out of government. Sometimes you wonder if they can finish this term.

  10. On april 30th the govt.knew May salaries will be delayed but they chose to be salient hoping the civil servants wont notice.Sad.Pathetic.

  11. I heard from the grapevine that they will be paid next week. How do they expect them to survive without money?

  12. Back in the day ZCTU would ve been in the forefront in bringing the issue to the public attention, but unfortunately Hikaumba and co. are too comfortable to be bothered by delayed salaries.Tragic.

  13. fire the accountants, chapwa. they can’t continue in the private sector.

  14. This happens everytime we have elections. Why should they wait until taxes for April are collectedf or them to pay civil servants.? No planning on part of our DEAD GOVERNMENT. The MMD Government is heartless.

  15. Hon Mulongoti, we thought that the issue of delayed salaries for civil servants was a thing of the past. Sometime back, salaries would be delayed for simple reasons like the authorising Permanent Secretary was out of the country, or out of station like inspecting projects in Serenje, or even attending a seminar in Siavonga at a time they well knew that they should be signing salary cheques. We should not allow that kind of insensitive indiscipline to creep back into the civil service, otherwise you will be fueling rumours by politicians. Some politicians know the truth but will twist it for their own ends so that we the hapless citizens will spend our lives debating what should be non-issues, while they enjoy undeserved praise. Best and more credible to prevent the rumours than react.

  16. It is true that salaries were diverted to fund the bye elections .The story kamulongoti is telling us is not true.Iam looking forward to hearing that he has been evacuated to mornigside clinic and never to come back

  17. Where is our Veep?im not safe to have this boy as acting Zed presido while ba RB is out on holiday as a tourist

  18. Dont deny it you MMD cadres. This information is from officers responsible for salaries, ba kabwa imwe.

  19. Hikaumba and # 11(MMD Cadre) are too comfotable to comment on this issue. The fact is that this delay is not happening for the first time in Zambia. # 11 how do you expect the politicians and civil servant to conclude on this delay? Don’t take Zambians for granted they deserve the truth, concern and care from those in Power.

  20. Things have improved a lot ever since I checked on civil servants salary. My father worked in Kaunda’s day. We did not start expecting the salary until way after the 16th of the next month. Then during Chiluba we will wait around the 7th when there are no bye elections. Not sure during Mwanawasa. But RB worked in the Kaunda times and he is a man of those days. I am sure the 15th is just fine.
Most civil servants do not survive on their salaries because it is not possible. I do not blame them for their late coming for work, long lunch breaks, bad attitude towards work. They need time to supplement their law late salaries. k1.8m after taxes ( 60,000 mealie meal, 1000,000 rent, 400,000 water plus electricity, 400,000 groceries) shachepa. A brother needs to send kids to school, transpot,…

  21. Am a senior accountant at the ministry of Finance and this so called Mulongoti is just vomiting nonsense. Does he expect us accountants to work on the money that is not available? Thats nonsense.Let this good for nothing chap stop yaping nonsense

  22. Mwema civil servants, ala chitenipo chimo. It’s unfair for a whole entire minister to lie about your salaries, when he himself lacks for nothing. Ala ni animal farm pa Zed!

  23. Being a non-believer, i know one thing: “God helps those who helps themselves”. Civil servants should go to this minister’s office and protest, especially the accountants!!
Bale mitolela sana imwe….. £300 a month and you are watching these people flying to SA for aids cure and wasting your money! Wake up…

  24. This mulongoti thing has no manners thats why pazedi you have to help ur self otherwise one can starve to death
