United party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has urged voters not to base their choices of electing a president on tribal or party lines in the October 30 presidential election.
The UPND leader said all Zambians were created by one God and this makes every one equal.
Mr. Hichilema said voters should elect a leader to lead and unite the country as a best way of remembering the late president Levy Mwanawasa.
He urged people not to vote for leaders who are campaigning on tribal lines, saying such leaders are not capable of uniting the Country.
He was speaking yesterday at a public rally in Mufulira held at Chawama grounds in Kantanshi township.
He retaliated that his party will run independently in the forthcoming election and has no intention of going in a pact with Patriotic Front Party.
He said UPND is ready to look after all Zambians well when it forms the next government.
He appealed to the voters in the district to vigorously campaign for UPND so that he can win the presidential elections set October 30.
The UPND leader has also pledged to build more hydro power stations as a way of reducing the power supply shortages that the Country is facing.
Mr Hichikema said once elected into power, government will embark on investing in the hydro power generation so that the load shedding is stopped and also be able to export to neighboring Countries.
Mr. Hichilema stated that the load shedding programme that government has resorted to was more to do with poor management of the energy sector by government.
He said his government will take advantage of the abundance water resources that the country is endowed with and produce more electricity.
On education he said government will introduce policies that will promote free education from grade one to university so as to enable more people access education.
He said a country can  not run without knowledge and he is ready to pay back to the Zambian for the free education that he benefited from once elected as president.
Mr Hichilema also stated that his government will repair the run down road infrastructure in the district and provide clean and adequate drinking water supply to the residents.
He said he intends to restore the life style of the people in the boarder town to better levels by allowing them to own more shares in foreign companies.
Mr Hichilema was addressing a rally in Mufulira yesterday at Chawama grounds in Kantanshi Township.
Earlier Mr Hichilema visited markets in Kansuswa, Kawama East and Buteko.

#4, whoever wins now will only rule for 3 years upto 2011 – because the parliamentary term ends then. Then we will have the normal Presidential and General elections of which the Presidetn who will win will rule for 5 years. Now, since the Zambian Republican Constitution allows a person to be a Zambian President for only two terms it means that if HH/Sata wins all the two presidential elections, they will only be President of Zambia for 8 years.
Since HH is 46 years old, he can rule for 8 years upto the time he will be 54 years old and leave Presidential office at the normal retirement age for Zambian Civil/Public servants. With this youths/young people will take the lead in the nation
In quest for power, I find Hichilema in the habit of shooting himself all the way to the political graveyard. Now he detests Tribal politics forgetting that he is a first breed having subverted Sakwiba Sikota, Bob Sichinga and Patrick Chisanga in a coronation exercise by Mama Mtinta for Presidency under the disgraceful “Tonga only for Presidency” doctrine. Zambian political History has trails that those who emerged on the stage on a tribal stamp have never gotten away with it. HH is a by product of some clan’s vision. He has to get to get sanitized of that tribal demon and get baptized with our unitary Zambian spirit. Otherwise Zambians are unforgiving with the his type of tickets.

I have once met hh,The guy does not sound tribal himself.I was close to putting my vote on him last time but i was in a group of two tongas that shouted a slogan”SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TEAM”That made me feel out of place and made me vote for mmd out of disappoitment.

How is HH/Sata going to reach the rural areas where they did badly in 2006 in the remaining 39 days. I have already obersved that the Sata supportes hates the HH Camp and vice versa instead of working together to dislodge the MMD. I do not hate Sata and I have no problems with you voting for him. All I am stating are facts based on what I know about the man. He is a populist politician who cannot help shape up systems where people can work together. He enjoys giving orders to people instead of reasoning with them and systematically testing ideas to see how they work. That is why all the ministries he has worked never had lasting policies. Compare LG & Housing under Masebo to what it was under Sata. Just be objective and vote sincerely for a person who will help Zambia genuinely.

Abenamfula – I beg to disagree. Sata is not a leader but a boss type and a bully. If you want to bully people, then things won’t get done when you are not there. Sata cannot be president and believe you me, if voted into office there will be chaos in Zambia. Uniting that country as it has been was not an easy thing. Sata uses Bemba everywhere and his uncouth language will scare investors and Zimbabwe settling, then Zambia may turn out to be a pariah state. Do not vote for Sata because he cannot do the job of President. Trust me!!!
Nothing seems to have changed since 2006. Only difference is that more Luapula voters will mark on the MMD candidate thanks to Sata’s unbridled propensity for chaos. Even FTJ aint accompanying him there this time around. No need to guess who takes the presidency. The die is cast and come 5th November 2008 (taking into account the delay in announcing the Presidential results by ECZ for whatever reason), one of the candidates, RB, HH or Sata will ascend to become the 4th President for the Republic of Zambia. RB is favourite as difficult to unseat the ruling party with all advantages of Government machinery at their disposal. That aside HH and Sata will give it their best and by splitting the votes, effectively get RB in office with about 40% of the eligible voters.

No 50 I am from Luapula and know for a fact that the province which gave Sikota the second largest vote was Luapula. they were the first to pull out of UPND and demand for the formation of ULP. Talking about tribal voting does not mean he is denoucing those who picked him on tribal lines. Holding elections in an African setup is not easy. Africans are not used to competition hence they have a tendency of not accepting losing. This is the basis for major wars in Africa. This also explains the behaviour of Saki and Chisanga in the 2006 UPND elections. Sata is aware of this and that explains why he has not held any elections to date(For you PF supporters please you must realise that Sata exploited this issue and has left a mark in your mind that HH is tribal).

I am told HH bought 2 HELICOPTERS in 2006/7 to use for all future campaigns. So RB has only one competetor in this October 30, 2008 in the name of HH. That is why RB has also concentrated on issues based campaigns intead of RANTINGS like hon. Sata.

Sata was never presidential material in 2001. Chiluba repeated the same thing in 2006 when he (Chiluba) saw that the POST Newspaper people were going to put Zambia into ruins by openly campaigning for hon Sata – of which by virtue of doing so Zambian people who be scared to vote for hon Sata. The first time I went to Lusaka people spoke mainly Nyanja and the second time I travelled there I was being addressed in Bemba!I hear even in Botswana and SA the Zambian Community speaks more of Bemba than any other Zambian language.

I like HH as a politician. But his promises of FREE fertiliser to Zambian smallscale farmers, FREE education from grade one to University are surely out of touch with reality. Does he know the number of school going children? Does he also know how many smallscale farmers we have in this country. Imagine we have 2000,000 smallscale farmers, the cost of fertiliser is about K250,000. For top and Basal dressing fertiliser, it could cost us K1trillion. That is minus transport costs, support to the ministry of agriculture, veterinary services and fisheries. Now look at free education also. There was an extensive interview with Sata in the Post about a year ago which would serve as a very good CV (but I don’t know if you can access it from there). The thing is people don’t really care about his CV (even though it’s very impressive in terms of his experience if not certificates), they know he’s the man, it’s not an job application.
#4, the zambian constitution states that a person can only rule for two terms. so, when HH wins, his first term will be 3 years and if he goes for a second term in 2011, he’ll rule for another 5 years. so he’ll only be able to rule for 8 years!

My fellow I would like to give some friendly advise to the REAL TRIBALISTS in Zambia. THis advice is free. YOU SEE country men and women, when Sakwiba Sikota felt the Impact of HH before the UNPD elections at the CONVENTION, he started accusing HH’s group as tribal. What happened to Sakwiba and his camp, the lost terribly becuase they concentrated of accusing HH of tribalism instead of offering the UPND electorate some substance to allow them led! This is the same scenario we have today in this October 30th, 2008 election. Now that those who have always underrated HH has seen that he is winning, they are trying to paint him as TRIBAL.
Sikota did not have to try to destroy UPND. That was effectively done when HH and his people adopted the cry of it must be a Tonga. That UPND died is shown by the fact that HH reduced UPND from 49 MPs to a mere 22. Most of the officials even from other provinces were Tonga. All you have to do is to ask people who attended. So long as you bury your head in the sand you will not ressurect your party. No one is scared of HH we are merely amused at the excitement that will soon change to cries that things were rigged.

I visited both Sata and HH’s websites just to see for myself what positions they hold on the various issues afflicting our society. I was surprised to see just how vague their positions and “solutions” were. I burst out in laughter to see in the “agriculture” section, HH promising to provide “FREE” agriculture imputs for the first three years if he is elected president. LOL! Is this some sort of a joke? If not how does he plan to fund such a program and is it really necessary? We are sick and tired of a bunch of clowns in the political arena. Both HH and Sata need to provide concrete, tangible and practical solutions instead of political gimmicks and pointles campaign promises!!!

If you think it is the Bembas who are tribal then just compare the electoral results from Southern, Luapula and Northern Provinces and tell me which Provinces voted exclusively for their tribesmen.
