It’s Govt’s desire to provide quality health services for all – Banda

Share

Central province Minister Ackimson Banda says it is government’s desire that all citizens accessed quality health care especially in the rural part of the country.

Speaking when he handed over a newly constructed maternity ward to the ministry of health at Serenje district hospital , Sunday, Mr. Banda who is also Serenje member of parliament said government would ensure that health services were delivered as close to the people as possible.

Mr. Banda told a gathering that included Central province permanent secretary Deny Lumbama that the MMD administration was committed to improving the social economic well being of the people of Zambia.

He said government through the provincial administration, has sourced K225 Million to construct the maternity ward in the district.

Mr. Banda urged the health management and people of Serenje to look after the building well so that it could benefit the community and particularly the expecting mothers.

And provincial Permanent Secretary Denny Lumbama said the provincial administration was striving to supplement the efforts of line ministries in social service delivery.

Mr. Lumbana said the maternity ward was one of the eight facilities the provincial administration attended to starting last year adding that at Chitambo hospital, water and sanitation was improved apart from expansion of Masansa clinic and Ipongo Clinic, in Mkushi and Chimbombo districts respectively.

In Kabwe, Mr. Lumbama said the Kabwe general hospital mortuary was expanded.

He also appealed to the health management to take care of the maternity wing and encouraged them to strive to equip the ward with facilities saying he was aware that the department received quite substantial amount of money every months.

Mr. Lumbama said from the funding, the department could be putting aside a bit to improve such facilities like the maternity ward instead of just waiting that other people could do it for them to try to do things at their level.

He said in Chitambo constituency, there was a lot of work which needed to be done.

He appealed to the district director of health Dr. Tiza Mfune, to ensure that work to complete Mulaushi and Yorum Mwanje clinics were done quickly.

He urged Dr. Mfune to start positioning staff to be sent to work in the clinics so that they can give service to the communities and asked the health management team to take particularly attention on the workmanship and materials which are being used at Chipungu and others to get there because the reports reaching his office were sad.

And district director of health, Tiza Mfune commended government for constructing a maternity wing at the hospital saying it will create and privacy for expecting mothers.

  3. I wish to know how much was spent on LPM’s funeral, just ended elections and how much we the people spend on running luxuries for ministers. I have a sister in hospital now and for over 4 months they could not determine what was wrong with. Now she is critical and they suspect pericarditis. This is a TB and she is not HIV positive. At first they concentrated on HIV and nothing led to that. On sunday last week she became so weak and was on O2. Today she was supoosed to be given saline and there was none in the entire hosiptal. We boought on our own and the nurse (male) was hesitant because he said they could find some tomorrow. So do we need promises or action?

  4. Hey Tracey. sorry that yo sis is sick. I know it hurts to hear such cheap talk when one is in such….. Just put all in God’s hands ok. come on guys, lets have atleast the basic medications in our hospitals, bushe when are we going to grow as a country? its a pity.

  5. WHEN HEALTH WORKERS MIGRATE TO EUROPE AND SA THEY SAY WE ARE NOT PATRIOTIC I KNOW IT HURTS WHEN YOU LEAVE YOUR COUNTRY TO GO AND RENDER SERVICES TO ANOTHER COUNTRY WHERE YOU DDNT TRAIN BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE SIDE WHERE THE BREAD IS BUTTERED WE ARE TIRED OF EATING CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE AND THIS CAINE MWEEMBA SAYS GOVT IS JUSTIFIED TO INCREASE ALLOWANCES FOR ITS SENIOR MEMBERS OF THE CABINET ITS A SHAME WE WILL NEVER DEVELOP AS A NATION

  6. GOOD HEALTH IS A RIGHT NOT A PRIVILEGE BY THE WAY IN CASE THEY ZED GOVT DONT KNOW ESPECIALLY FOR PREGNANT WOMEN WE SHD AVOID MATERNAL DEATH AT ALL COST THATS A UNIVERSAL DECLARATION BY WHO WHY SHD WOMEN DIE IN CHILD BIRTH DUE TO LACK OF FACILITIES AND INACCESIBILITY OF HEALTH CARE

  7. #6 Iwe Tracey That s Zambia. I complained about this on here when my mother needed an operation which could not be done in Zambia because of the risks involved. Dad went to see politicians who were not interested at all. Time was running out so we ended up putting our little monies together and sent her to SA. It cost us just above £10 000.

What was disheartening were comments like, well sad your mother is in hospital but she is not as important as the president! It hurts to think hospitals do not have basic stuff like Normal Saline.

Reason nshakabwelele! All the best though with your sister. AIDS or no AIDS if one is ill they are ill. That country stinks.

  8. #12 Contd. No wonder the i)d)i)o)t is saying it is government desire. He obviously doesn`t give it a monkeys because once AIDS starts in him, he knows he will be sent to SA. It is not government desire, it is their duty! If they do not want responsibility, let them do away with government hospitals and pay people enough so they can start medical insurance. What really hurts is to be given a prescription to go and buy drugs!

If your sister was a ministers daughter she would be in SA by now. How sad!
I wish her a quick recovery.

  9. You are right Mbuya Abanda, but you don’t stick to your words mweba mu goverment. My grandmother also died mu UTH coz the doctors couldn’t operate her coz they did not have the kits.what a shame.

  10. #6 Sorry my sister about you sister’s sickness. What can we do when we are 3rd rate citizens? When we are not related to high profile people? When we come from poor backgrounds and cannot afford to fly our sick relatives out of the country? What can we do apart from blog and depend on the mercies, or lack of, of the powers that be? Quickest recovery to your sister.

  11. HEALTHCARE IS NOT CHEAP. THROUGHOUT HISTORY HEALTHCARE FOR THE MASSES WAS OFFERED BY CHARITIES. THE OLDEST HOPITAL IN THE WORLD, ST BART’S IN LONDON WAS ONCE KNOWN AS ‘THE HOUSE OF THE POOR’ BECAUSE IT WAS FOUNDED AS A CHARITY. THERE IS NO GOVT IN THE WORLD THAT CAN ABLY PROVIDE HEALTHCARE TO THE HIGHEST STANDARD FOR THE PEOPLE FREE OF CHARGE, UNLESS IT IS SOCIALIST LIKE CUBA. THE BRITISH NHS HAS HAD MASSIVE INJECTION OF CASH TO BE WHERE IT IS TODAY, AND EVEN THAT, IS NOT KNOWN HOW LONG IT WILL BE SUSTAINED. EVEN IN OUR VILLAGES, THE WITCHDOCTOR WAS PAID FOR THE CONSULTATION BY THE PATIENT OR RELATIVES. UNIP LULLED US INTO SLEEP. HEALTH COMES AT A COST AND PREVENTION IS THE BEST WAY!

  12. ##17 WHEN SATA WAS MINSTER OF HEALTH HE INTRODUCED FEE PAYING WINGS THEY SAID HE WAS POLITISZING THE HEALTH CARE BY THAT TIME I USED TO WORK AT ONE OF THE CLINICS IN LUSAKA PPL WERE PAYING AT LEAST 1000K AS CONSULTATION THAT WENT A LONG WAY IN BUYING AT LEAST WASHING POWDER FOR THE LINEN AND DISFECTANT THE GOVT ONLY RESPONDS WHEN THERZ AN OUTBREAK OF DISESES LIKE CHORELA BUT MEANWHILE THERE ABLE TO BEBATE AND AWARD HEFTY INCREAMENTS
