State threatens to repossess Mansa Batteries

Share

Government has threatened to repossess Mansa Batteries if the new owners, Zamanita, formerly Amanita – Zambia, continues delaying resumption of operations at the factory.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Mansa yesterday, Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Jazzman Chikwakwa said government and the nation were concerned that the factory had remained non-operational following its privatization.

Mr. Chikwakwa said the new owners have not fulfilled their obligations of resuming operations at the battery factory hence it has become a white elephant.

He pointed out that as a result unscrupulous people were looting the raw material, manganese, which they were selling to suspected foreigners.

And on the closed Mununshi Banana Scheme in Nchelenge area, the Permanent Secretary said President Rupiah Banda has issued a directive to his provincial administration to look for a new investor.

Mr. Chikwakwa told ZANIS that the current investor, a named prominent Lusaka-based businessman, had proved incapable of running the factory.

  1. LT how come./ These stories are coming with already with comments. shame! even before you post it already has five comments!

  2. For what I know, a lot of these factories were stripped of assets. How can they run. Who would buy empty buildings. mansa batteries has been shut for over 10yrs. Has Mr Chikwakwa been inside to see what is left.

Many privatised companies were stripped of their asserts. Look at Zamhort, Kapiri Glass Factory, Mansa Batteries, Pineaple company, Motor Assemblies, Bicycle company, Ndola refinery etc etc. I bet you will not find these factories intact.

  4. our govt is just not serious.most of these companies are running down due to lack of matainance and as #8 has put. if these people cant run it reposses and run it.but the problem is,the company will join zesco in financing MMD.

  5. Lady chiza’s legs

How are you today? How is my niece/nephew? my regards to her/him.

  8. This is sad. Why is LT becoming like Daily Mail, Times of Zambia and ZNBC? Please it is the GOVERNMENT that wants to repossess Mansa Batteries. There is a difference between the STATE and GOVERNMENT. And the two are not interchageable.

  9. Jam@co

Thanks man! Not ukumbwenamo mudala wandi. In those days when we were growing up we only knew how to catch birds with uwulimbo. These computers elo twafishiba. :-j:-j:-j

  10. Why threaten??? I thought he should have investigated by now and found out the reason why it is not operational before issueing empty threats!!!The other day he was snapped slashing grass, it has gone to his head. Does he know the agreement nor the legal implications of repossesing something you carelessly sold??? We are sick and tired of this charade by thess cadres turned civil servants. baleikalafye. We feel pity for the workers but whose fault anyway that it hasnt started production?? The MMD for fo*lish sale binding contracts they signed with the infestors..

  11. IN THE FIRST PLACE ,IT WAS PRIVATISED BECAUSE THE GOVT FAILED TO RUN IT .NOW WHAT MAKES THEM SO SURE THAT THEY LL RUN IT THIS TIME AROUND.THEY VE FAILED TO RUN ZAMTEL ETC HISTORY HAS IT`S ARCHIVES

  12. This is what is wrong with governance in Zambia. Jazzman is a PS and therefore a civil servant. How can he be making political statements? Where is his political boss? ie Provincial minister. What are we doing to the Country?

  13. Chikwakwa, MMD cadre, who used to sleep on the ground before Mwanawasa can come today to make this cheap political threat.

Chikwakwa, can you just shut up you stinking mounth.

  14. :o:o:o:o name the business man and we will know wat he wanted ina dilapidated battery factory, he must like the other anyandule who got kapiri glass so they can vanalize it themselves, we know u guys:^o:^o:^o

  15. Repossess it and then do what with it Mr. Chikwakwa? Turn it into a achibuku tarven? Think before you open your trap!

  16. Mansa batteries, Kawambwa tea, Mwinilunga Apple Factory, Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia, Refined Oile Products (ROP) etc – all these were once state enterprises which you failed to run. Now that someone else has bought them off you, you want to appear smart by making ridiculous threats. Unless there was a caveat to that sale that stipulated that the buyer produce according to your timetable and dictate, you should just shut up Chikwakwa and wait for your free salary from Nyama Soya, who similarly failed to run Namboard!

  17. Does Mr. Chikwakwa know what he is talking about? When did Mansa Batteries come to a stand still? Now you want to show that you are in a hurry to revamp it! Give me a break. 😮

  18. Guys what do you think would become of state owned enterprises in this era where we have qualified local manpower to run them and also drawing from the experience of failed parastatals?

  19. Mr Jazzman Cikwakwa is lamenting a futile song. What does he mean by such a statement? govt has failed to rescue the entire Luanshya Mines.

Ba Baillif basenda imyotoka uko ku Luanshya Mines.

What makes him think govt will perform miracles at Mansa Batteries?

Jazzman Chikakwa is in dreamland|-)|-)|-)|-)|-please wake him up<):)

  20. Management problem in Zed! Huge Management problem!

Thats why, we privatise everything because we cannot manage. If we where able to manage, we would’nt be privatising Zamtel! Now, the worst thing is we cannot even manage the privatisation process itself! Mansa batteries is a good example.

Hey, Maybe Niggaz just need to be managed by MUZUNGUS!

  21. Bring Mansa battery factory to Livingstone Museum, you are welcome.I remember the factory in social studies that it was one of the leading factories in Zed.:o
Go! GRZ GO! you have failed :((:((

  22. One of the sons of Ruphia Banda has the interest in Mansa battery factory. He had a meeting with a mugungu in South Africa so that he can influence his father and offer them the factory. 😮

  23. One of the sons of Ruphia Banda has the interest in Mansa battery factory. He had a meeting with a muzungu in South Africa so that he can influence his father and offer them the factory. 😮

  24. Why is GRZ threatening to reposes from Zamanita Mansa Batteries? One should look at the background how its acquired. Amanita jumped on everything that was being privatised such as Premier Oils, Lenco and all they failed to run such entities. What Amanita then did was to get information using underhand methods from then ZPA and then put in a bid. If those guys have failed to run Mansa Batteries,GRZ has got an obligations to reposses it and engage serious investors if there any. There is ready market for batteries thts why our shops are stocked with Chines batteries which are inferior to Spark.Jazzyman we need action not mere talk. Mununshi same why look for an investor outside to run banana’s

  25. Continued:
There is absolutely no need to call for foreign investors to run a banana plantation. Does one need sophiscated technology like one used in mining to run a plantation. Given incentives the locals can manage that plantation. Even the so called investors come with little but exploit the local pipo to the maximum and after making much profit they take off. The list is endless. Pipo are growing bananas in Lower Zambezi and the same could be done in Luapula Province.Medical doctors have done it at UTH, Soldiers on UN/AU operations etc. you mean men and women at NRDC, UNZA, GATT etc can fail to provide solutions. We have to look around ourselves for solutions nobody will ever develop Z

  26. When Privatization at full speed Jazzyman Chikwakwala was a minister of some sort. You contributed nothing so stopping plunder of parastatals. Now you are rewarded for having campaigned badly on Copperbelt. Mwishi two years remaining is not enough you will join us street adults on Katondwe Street.Jazzyman Chikwakwala don’r be in a hurry like Dorika Sahakaliya. We are watchful this days whether iwth the Post or not. We have enough connections to know who has done what and that in GRZ.
