Southern Province Minister, Joseph Mulyata, has castigated a commercial radio station in the province for allegedly giving platform to some people to attack government and President Levy Mwanawasa.
Mr Mulyata says SKY Fm radio, which is based in Monze, has neglected its duties to afford government an opportunity to defend itself against the attacks by the opponents.ÂÂ
He said the radio station has been conducting live interviews featuring some individuals who have been attacking government and President Mwanawasa without affording government a similar opportunity to explain its position.
Addressing heads of government departments in Monze, Mr Mulyata said government is
unhappy with the radio station’s failure to give balanced reporting and fair coverage.
He said government did not give SKY FM an operating licence to air anti-government
programme but issues of development that are beneficial to the community.
Mr Mulyata stated that government does not stop the radio station from reporting on
anything but what was needed was to be professional so that people with hidden agenda do not use the facility to destroy others.
The minister said reports reaching his office about the alleged unprofessional conduct of the institution were a matter of serious concern especially that people were being given wrong information about government.
“When you invite a person who wants to attack government, why don’t you invited somebody from government to the same platform so that there is balance?”, Mr Mulyata
asked.
The minister was reacting to reports that oasis forum chairperson Bishop Paul Mususu
was featured on a live interview programme on SKY FM in which he castigated government over the constitution making process.
Mr Mulyata explained that government has not refused to enact a new constitution but
that it will not circumvent the process of doing so.
He said there is no need for anybody to attack President Mwanawasa over the constitution when he has shown willingness to give the country a new constitution.
Here we go again.Mulyata what you need to know is, people are really fedup with lies that are coming from you people closer to Levy. It will be you the same people who will run away from Levy when he leaves office especially if he fails to provide resources and support to enable the costitution making process a success. Today you can say good things about Levy because you are eating and sleeping well because of Levy. The radio station has got the right to invite anyone to express his/her views affecting the majority of Zambians and this is an integral part of freedom of expression in a democratic country especially this time when peoples’determination to have the new costitution has reached climax point. In order for freedom of expression to flourish the media has to play an important role by reporting what the government doesn’t what people to hear. It’s for this reason the government will be kept in balance. You have got no rights to decide what the media should report or who to invite

Come on should the whole nation be singing LPM’s praise songs..you have ZNBC, Times of Zambia, ZANA, Daily Mail, and all the ZNBC Radio stations in all languages ..are those not enough venues to defend yourself? Get real Southern Province Chief Bootlicker Mulyata..
Mr Minister Mulyata,i think you have gone off the line, what has sky fm done. You could have asked for air time and answer back what the Mususu has said then attcking an independent radio statio.this a sign that you have lost touch.you have failed to sort out your own messy at livingstone cabinet office.Your PS Mr Hakayobe has failed to account for Billions of Kwacha and you have failed to tell uas here that money went to.in choma at the DACO Office Money meant for FAO Project has just gone missing and you attack our pivotal bridge in developmet, shame to you.you were suppose to be asking your staff as what Government was doing and explain developmental projects you have intiated than attacking Sky FM.My Dear Miister,Sky FM is ours and if you want to leave this province fast than you came than contiune going off side.we shall sort ypu on the same radio station.we are disaappointed to your sour utterances,Please if you are a man go and apologise to the staff and station, or elese
i support the cabbage comment, sure znbc, times, daily and zana always carry headlines of Mwanawasa,so you think we are happy seeing his face ,we know he runs the state media on a remote control.please do not interfere the operations of the media.you are very disappointing because it is the same radio that has given you hundred percent coverage and to be known is becasue of sky fm,dont bit the finger that is feeding you, please apologise.
to sky fm staff please they was nothing bad the bishop said, Mulyata is just trying to make LPM happy.and mr President fire this man.he has failed to deliver.
Mulyata should be considered a danger to society and should be warned that your time is over shortly after LPM ‘s exit or even before as you have already demonstrated to be a liability to this nation’s development. I can assure you that you will not have everyone citizen singing songs of praise for yourself and LPM. Time is long gone when that was the case. Now we need delivery and when time is up you exit. Hence, the urgent need for the replacement of the existing constitution with a new one already in its framework through the Mung’omba CRC recommendations that came from the people themselves. Time is now for that new constitution.
Mr minister, why are you so much frustrated with the radio stadio? Have you forgotten that it is independent? Remember that it isnt Government property. Why should the whole media be singing songs of praise to the ineffective Government? We need developmental issues. So watch out!!!
If SKY FM is for the people, then they should not deny anybody chance to air their views. Be it government or any other. They should show a good example to ZNBC and Times who do not give fair time and space to others.
What I think should not be allowed is monopoly.
Let sky fm alone. We have enough government controlled media and its time that the people also heard from a voice that airs theri views. This is what is meant by freedom of expression.
Mulyata, if he’s man worth his balls, should give that advice to ZNBC. Zambia is suffering from a critical shortage of competent people to run govt. How many times has ZNBC failed to give the opposition a chance to give their side of the story while Mwaanga and Levy have been on air?
Filling positions with incompentents like Mulyata is not gonna take Zambian anywhere, because Mulyata and others in MMD have never known how life can be made better than the shuckles of poverty they see in Lusaka everyday.
EVEN IN THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES THERE ARE GRADES. LOOK AT OUR HDI INDEX, COUNTRYMEN.
Mr. Minister you have now become a laughing stock among the flocks, never play with the Media. I strongly remember that even the crocked VJ even being a Minister for years as Information Minister go and ask him has never attack the media so openly. The media can build and destroy you. you came with a very good reputation from Western and the Tonga respected you very much but it is like the honey has starting flowing down your trousers and you think you can become a bully, to tell you the truth, you are in a wrong place.
The best advise I can give you is go to sky fm and apology, to sky fm and the listeners who love sky fm,mr minister to tell you the truth you have injured us.
We are now hurting you so badly and we shall tell LPM to fire or transfer you. you are a disappointing.
Let me tell you, so cheaply and free information go the department of resettlement and find out, the department is abusing funds and some projects have stalled and people are busy buying fancy cars and properties.
It is disappointing that civil servants who are crying of low salaries are now buying cars, houses and going abroad for leisure.
The ministry of agriculture has a lot of scandals, so is the transport, health sure civil servants (us) buying cars on the expense of people money.
Am a civil servant if you think am wrong, we shall expose you too, for trying to protect Hakayobe.come and inspect this ministries, this is suppose to be your job, and not attacking Sky FM who are so innocent and have helped and partners in development.
Thank you.
A grieved civil servant
i think Mulyata should go to hell and wait for the judgement day when MMD and Levy will be called upon to be judged.Mr Minister you are a disgarce, leave the media alone, not only Sky fm but all of them.Simango almost started this fun circus where she could say if no znbc i wont delievr my statement but she was warn,i think you can go to hell,we are faded up this coment ba minister,Viav the media
Freedom of expression should never be suppressed. Call a spade a spade and nothing to hide. If govt is not doing anything why praise them? When govt is doing good the media is good tool for such. The politics of threats are long gone in UNIP era. The Wamayayaya slogan brought the down fall of KK and Chiluba.Watch out Minister before you threaten the media to which one day you wil run to to air yourviews once LPM fires you.
When are the whole Lot of you going to change
the way you report news even your site leaves much to
be desired i have been reading the same old
stories for more than a week, stories because it is nolonger news is it,We need to know what is going on back home every day thanks.
