Share

lpm.JPGPresident Levy Mwanawasa has donated two ambulances to Mkushi District hospital in Central province and Arthur Davies Children’s Hospital in Ndola on the Copperbelt. The two ambulances are valued at US$50,000.

Health Minister, Brian Chituwo, who received the donation on behalf of the two health institutions thanked President Mwanawasa for the donation.

He said the gesture would positively impact on efforts of enhancing the quality of health service in the two districts and the nation in general.

He said the ministry of health through the National Health Strategic Plan has developed strategies aimed at addressing the transport challenges in the health sector.

The health minister cautioned the recipients to guard the ambulances jealously. “On behalf of the recipients, the rest of the Zambian public and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to express appreciation to the President.

I say we are very thankful for your heartfelt gesture, ” Dr. Chituwo said. Mkushi District Director of Health Dr. Rosemary Mwanza commended President Mwanawasa for the gesture. Dr. Mwanza assured Mr. Mwanawasa that the facility would be utilized to meet the intended purpose.

  1. Sounds good! Is it from the Government or LPM’s personal fund? Hope it extend to other provinces as well. It looks like the so-called gesture is unbalanced. Be fair.

  2. We are counting,$50,000 off, source unknown.Keep it up? Or is it from the mid gratuity of K600m? Oaky go on Ba Levy donate one to Kasama. You are just following FTJ’s footsteps but when you are caught dont complain.

  3. This is all useless, this is exactly what FTJ used to do,as kuku has mentioned, stealing money through donations to churches and other institution’s. What people must understand is that politican’s do not steal tax payer’s money, but they inflate and divert project’s fund and donated money. The tax payer’s money is handled by ZRA, therefore we would have seen heads rolling there too. i also condemn the donation because it’s not the president’s duty to make donation, but his duty to provide such procurement through his ministry of works and supply. Shame on LPM and all con men.

  4. Give LPM a hand of aplouse, He has atleast done something human. There only question is can we truck the source of the funds used to buy these ambulances. However, its a good start. I know for some of you guys there is nothing LPM can do to please you. Lets try to be objective and give a credit where its is due.

  5. I fail to understand what SAGE’s point is here. The President cannot donate to mainstream public depts (unless am unaware Zambia/MOH has declared bankruptcy). This is no rocket science, SAGE. If it were from their own pocket they would have told you so. They take public resources and turn them into a personalised transfer with an obvious goal- cheap political mileage. Its laughable to suggest any credit is due to Levy for this disgraceful act.

  6. He’s at the top of a govt that has failed to run public services effectively. Now he must turn into a donor to a health system he has helped impoverish.

Is this an astonishing show of no confidence in works and supply and/or MOH? Or is it an arrogant show of a leader touting more ‘excess’ resources than govt. Either way, the buck starts and stops at his feet.

  7. I think as much as we condemn governments, and their usual misdeeds, we should also be seen to be giving credit where its due. Levy seems to have done far much better than chiluba … all chiluba did was give out his slash fund to churches etc… atleast levy rarely gives out such funds, if anything he even abolished it…… . wELL DONE LEVY !
Atleast we can talk about corruption, something that was never even mentioned in chiluba’s.
I guess we all have illusions how the governments should operate, but we should not be wholy negative to the point of not even seeing a positive score!
I trust and believe most of the points and views you guys express in medias like this one, as much as i would agree with you when you are right, i beleive i should be able to point out your oversight too.So lets give levy a small star here!

  8. Kalonda, before you start showering praises on LPM , try and establish where the funds came from. Was 50 G’s from his pocket or was it tax payer’s money?

  9. Kalonda, running a govt is not an illusion. There is a scientific or systems approach throught which things happen. FTJ may have done it but thats not our standard, Kalonda. In how many civilised societies have you heard a President or prime minister donating to govt depts. Its flat wrong!

On the corruption point, we have no evidence that there’s less corruption now than before. Many people believe little has changed. So, to suggest we can be content with merely talking about corruption is wholly inadequate.

  10. I didin’t know one could comment on this. A president who donates? How much does this man have in his account? I counldn’t believe it when I read this a president donating to one of the ministries he is suppose to be taking care of ACHOSA KUTI NDALAMA? Politions are not there to change our way of life the are there to push forward an agenda they are all trick stars. They are all gabbage and please people of Zambia don’t forget that these people are there to serve us and not the opposite. These guys think that public funds are their’s. Mwanawasa is diverting attention to the left while he is busy doing what Chiluba did on the right.Recognise the game plan people you have the right to know it’s Democracy or is it just an illusion that Zambia is a Democracy.

  11. Kalonda, are you sure you are in USA?You are so backwards, have you ever seen George Bush donating a tractor to Florida where Katrina struck?MOH thru Ministry of Works and supply are the legitimate corporate bodies entrusted with procurement of ambulances ,anything short of that is purely window dressing. Its in bad taste that such things happen.African leaders are the most stupid leaders the world has, they dont put the interest of the country first but their own and their relatives.Look at our developed world, you never see them spend billions on escort cars or executive cars but will spend billions on country programs including good salary for SMith so that he can happily prosecute FTJ and donate some to you chaps who are so lavish. Its only when you reliase that the citizens are what politics is all about shall we start behaving like servants.LPM is panicking, he knows people in Ndola love FTJ and he wont have a better field day there.
    He is bribing the electorate,

  12. Imwe bantu ni madness ya mtundu bwanji yagwila Mwanawasa imwe sure…………. He’s even got the courage to address people the people about this, does the president have advisors? I think they should be fired. DONATION AH AH AH.When it’s time to buy ama benzi ni gulani 10 and they share among them selves. Bose ni bakelenka.

  13. Kazana, u may be a little detached from real things. What the hell is 2 ambulances being donated to a clinic by the entire Presidency? Other contributors have tried to enlighten u that we have Min. of Works/MOH to do that. Has he instituted measures to repair those ambulances when they break down. Kalonda, we need an efficable system in place which will empower rural clinic directors to buy a simple piece of equipment as an ambulance. Don’t u see the inadequacies of this system u are following blindly?

  14. The President donating ambulances? Where exactly is the source of funds. Did he purchase them from his own resources. And how a president afford to buy ambulances when his govt and the MOH in particular cannot. Are we missing something?

  15. I am impressed with your minds of inquiry in wanting to know tha source of funds for such collosal sums of $$$ from LPM. I thought he canceled the slash funds two days he came in to the office.May be he has a new one. Govt is obligated to provide such services and they should never be considered donations.I believe a donation can never come form tax payers then that is different. Can some one who is an economics from MOF OR BOZ help us to uderstand donation in this contexts.

  16. LPM told FTJ that if he brings back 75% of the stolen money he will be forgiven and the 25% LPM and FTJ will share and thus some of it is what LPM is buying and donating those ambulances.People this is a circus we are being taken on roller coaster. Here is what LPM should do let FTJ bring back all the stolen ndalama and instead of throwing FTJ in prison for 20 years LPM should forgive FTJ or not LPM should pardon FTJ but the Zambian people who can’t even afford a bag of mealie meal should decide to pardon him or not or proberbly hammer FTJ 10 years imprisonment with hard labour. BAKAWALALA !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. What a donation, maybe these are the ambulances the Task force got from Tamba bashila or Chani fisheries belonging to Soliano Katoto (Moses Katumbi). No one knows where those items confiscated went to. Source of funds is needed to be disclosed and Know exactly how this donation was made. Ba Kalonde be quiet because you detached from real issues.

  18. LPM, what’s MOH there for? Small things like this should be for the Minister’s desk. Yours is to make national policy and to lead the country to prosperity.

Careful, don’t fall into the same trap as Chiluba!
