A stray Buffalo is reportedly terrorising people in Petauke’s Mbala Ward.

MMD Mbala Ward Councilor, Chipuku Longwe, said the wild beast has been terrorizing
people of Mbala ward and destroying property in the area.

Mr. Longwe told ZANIS in Petauke today that the Buffalo has allegedly injured two
people and has caused people in the area to live in fear.

Mr. Longwe appealed to the Zambia Wildlife Authority, ZAWA, to intervene and help
prevent the buffalo from causing more harm to the people and the crop fields.

“It is a worrying situation that Zambia wildlife authorities have kept on protecting
animals at the expense of the lives of citizens. “he said.

ZAWA Petauke District Officer, Sangulukani Phiri, confirmed the development adding
that officers are already on the ground to track the beast.

Mr. Phiri said the Buffalo, which first appeared at Mututa village in Chief
Kalindawalo’s area, was shot at and could not be killed.

He said it fled from Mututa village after causing problems to the local people and was later seen in Chimuchene village where it injured a Mr. Edward Lungu and his daughter Misozi Zulu.

He said the two have since been hospitalized in Petauke District hospital.

He, however, assured people that the situation will soon be brought to normal as the
district authority is working tirelessly to make sure that the animal does not inconvenience the people further.
