   I was wondering are we more intrested in establishing guilt or making sure that justice is done? It seems to me and I’m no exception, that most of us are already convinced that FTJ is guilty. This is wrong, as much as we are frastrated we should let the case be played out in court. By law we all have the prevalage of the presumption of inoccence!
   The court of public oppinion is held in contept,in this case. High profile cases are always bound to draw a broad range of oppinions and rightly so, the message is to our court system “justice delayed is justice denied” guilty or not.
   Except in this case the acussed ,FTJ’s, health seems to be part of the reason why things are stalling. All we want is Justice for all including FTJ.

5. In as much as this corruption crusade seem to be appreciated, I strongly feel that a lot more needs to be done to ensure that its not selective. For instance, I find it strange that the Post has failed to dig deeper in the case that the Attorney General has sued Kennedy Sakeni for failure to complete the construction of the O.P buildings in Luapula province. Apparently, Mr Sakeni won this tender when he was its provincial minister. It raises a bit of suspicions especially that he had an influence in selecting the bidders for the said construction. Ladies and gentlemen, isn’t this corruption at the highest leve???

6. FTJ says that he is innocent, the government alleges that he is not. It is only the court relaying on evidence available which will give a Just verdict.

   If FTJ IS Found Innocent, his name will be cleared and respect and intergrity restored. It will be those in Government to lose face.FTJ can only be vindicated by the court.

   On the other hand if he is found guilty it will then be a plus for the Zambian government the eventual winners will be the Zambian Citizens who will have proved that regardless of how high the office is it is accountable to the Zambian people.

11. All the comments above make very good sense and therefore, positive contributions. The problem that I see is to let the President go before the Court when for the past seven years everybody has been made to believe that the President is guilty through a crusade of insolence and despondence led by a newspaper that lacks credibility, integrity and reliability. I have never seen such irresponsible journalism that no doubt shows immaturity and lack of objectivity in commentaries and has without doubt pre-empted the justice that we could have loved to see. Where as we do all believe in press freedom but the media should be self regulating and should avoid biasness and should be mature not like a bunch of kindergarten pupils learning how to write. The media should be objective and responsible. We pray and hope that the judiciary is really independent from the executive and will be impartial in their deliberations nor will they let the Smith judgment cloud over their perception and stand by their conviction of being free and fair. I would also love to see hundreds of those civil servants that the president has proof of their misappropriation of government funds stand in court as well. No sacred cows should be spared if justice has to be administered.

61. I am amazed at some disparaging messages on this blog targeted at FTJ. Many of us including LPM are not worthy even to ”polish the shoes of FTJ”. FTJ led a peaceful transition in 1991 after KK and UNIP were badly defeated in a landmark election. Prior to being President FTJ was Chairman General of ZCTU for 17 years, as you may know that in those days no one was allowed to call himself President of any club. He resisted being co-opted into the UNIP central committee. Timothy Walamba could not resist.
