Vice President Rupiah Banda is next month in July expected to officiate at the Nyawunda traditional ceremony of the Lunda people of Mwinilunga district in the North western province.
Senior chief Sailunga of the Lunda people of Mwinilunga confirmed the development
in an interview with ZANIS at his palace in Mwinilunga.
Senior chief Sailunga said the ceremony will take place on July 6 to 8 at his royal
capital in Samutemba area, about 40 kilometres south of Mwinilunga boma.
He said his brother, senior chief Kanongesha of the same area, senior chief Ndungu
and senior Ishindi, senior chief Kasempa and other traditional rulers across the
country have also been invited to the ceremony.
Nyawunda traditional ceremony is the first of its kind to be held this year.
The ceremony signifies the role the ancestors played in preserving the Lunda
traditional heritage.
Meanwhile, Nyawunda traditional ceremony national chairperson Stuart Katuuka has
called for unity among traditional rulers in the area.
Mr Katuuka said traditional ceremonies are non partisan and are meant to foster
unity in diversity.
