Women’s club appeal for equipment

Kitwe District Commissioner, Macdonald Mtine, has appealed to Heifer International to consider assisting the Shakalabe Women’s Club of Kitwe’s Kafinsa Mission acquire modern  equipment.

The women’s club requires equipment to o make the milk  production project more
economically viable.

Mr Mtine said the group is currently producing milk products such as Ice cream,
cheese and vanilla chocolate.

Mr Mtine told ZANIS in an Interview in Kitwe today that the group has received 66
cattle from Heifer International that are being used in milk production.

He said Heifer international has been distributing livestock to women groups and
families engaged in farming in Kitwe’s Kafinsa area as a way of empowering them
economically.

He noted that the group, which is doing very fine, requires proper equipment and
financial help  if the project is to grow.

And Shakalabe Women’s Club Secretary, Grace Tembo said her group received 66 cattle
from Heifer International to enable them produce milk products.

Mrs Tembo said, however, the women lacked electrical appliances and modern equipment to enable them produce more milk products.

She  urged other women not to sit idle  but join other groups and copperatives if
poverty is to be alleviated.
