Share

Inspector General of Police Ephraim Mateyo has condemned police officers who are alleged to have shared money recovered from an aggravated robbery.

Mr Mateyo said an undisclosed amount of money was stolen during the same theft in
which an  Armcor driver was shot dead.

Mr. Mateyo pointed out that he wished to reiterate his earlier message that he would
not condone criminal activities by his officers whom he expected to act as role
models in the community both on and off their line of duty.

He said this in a statement released to ZANIS in lusaka today.

Mr. Mateyo has since warned all police officers indulging in crimes to be ready to
face the wrath of the law irrespective of their rank and status.

Mr. Mateyo said the 10 police officers have since been nabbed while investigations
have continued.

Mr Mateyo expressed disappointment at such police officers  who want to turn the
police service into a laughing stock because of their unacceptable.

  1. Mateyo should not react as if it is the first time police men has acted in this ways. There are so many incidents in which this men in the uniform share stolen money or worst still accident victims monies are share always. You talk to much and act less Mr IG. Pls be emulate Wasakasa (MHSIP) – the man in uniform with action oriented.

  2. It is sad off-course for police to had acted in that manner but, how do you expect one who has been living on a packet of peanuts for years to have self-control when there is an abundance? The police cannot show any example to anybody. They are poor, they are hustlers, they reap where they do not sow etc. Are they bad people? A big NO. Government has given the police a very bad reputation. They are poorly paid although they deserve more remuneration so that they cannot be tempted when on duty. Typical example, look at state house, and look at police housing. These people are supposed to be working at state house police. They live in a village type of set-up. They dry stinky, urinated on blankets in the sun.Where? Next door to state house. Meanwhile, they see trucks of outside catering going into state house to provide for free pwandos. Let’s be realistic. The police will always loot, even from dead people if their conditions are not upgraded. Our government must be a working government not just a Lisalisa (talking)

  3. Mr. IG, do not be disappointed with your boys! They just showed the nation there true colours. Who knows? They may be the ones who plot the robbery and shot dead the Armcor innocent driver (MHSRIP). Let this poor chaps be tried in the courts of the land. Officers please be role models in the community! AKWENDENI PANSHI MWALIBELELA. Mwanawasa tamusakamana. Mr. IG talk time yobe e salary yakwakapokola, kuti alupanya?Fifwele fyali ikata ifipondo elyo bafilishamo, lelo mwalya neshamulopa!
