Nkana, Chambishi promoted to Faz Premier League

Share

Nkana are back in the Faz Premier League three seasons after their demotion when today they beat visiting Lime Hotspurs 2-0 at home at their adopted home ground of Kafubu Stadium in Lunashya.

Joining the record 11-time Zambia league champions back in the top-flight are Chambishi who avenged their 2-1 away defeat from Week 13 on May 19 to crush Mufulira Blackpool 5-0 this afternoon.

Division 1 north leaders Nkana and 2nd placed Chambishi are promoted after amassing an unassailable number of points on 62 and 61 points respectively with two games in hand before they complete their league season.

Nkana secured their return to the Faz Premier League thanks to goals from winger William Chinse and playmaker Mwila Kabwe who joined the team this season from Kitwe United and Afrisports.

Chambishi on the other hand swept aside Blackpool who troubled their hosts in the first half before Vancious Mapande scored a brace while Francis Chileshe, Claude Bwalya and Sanida Zulu got a goal each to complete a good 2007 season for Aggrey Chiyangi’s team.

Chambishi were relegated last year after four seasons in the top-flight and together with Nkana are the first teams to be promoted from division one.

Green Eagles, Nkwazi and Riflemen are all locked in a tight race for promotion in Division 1 south league.

And in Faz Premier League Week 28 action today, Green Buffaloes ousted Kabwe Warriors from second place after beating their visitors 1-0 at Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka.

Brian Chilando scored the games lone goal to see Buffaloes go two points clear of Warriors on 52 points and exchange places in the process.

Power Dynamos stayed 4th rising to 45 points after a 1-0 home win over 6th placed Lusaka Dynamos courtesy of a 46th minute goal from Francis Kombe.

Konkola Blades stayed 8th and City 9th after they scoreless draw at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka this afternoon.

2007 league champions Zesco United lost only for the fourth time this season when they went down 2-1 away to relegated Forest Rangers in a Ndola derby played at Dola Hill.

Rainford Kalaba scored his 20th competitive goal of the season via a penalty in the 12th minute.

However, Forest made sure they had the last laugh over the newly crowned league champions with goals from Sydney Mwelwa and Zambia Under-23 striker Christopher Musonda.

And here are the 2007 Mosi Cup 7th round draws.

“Ba Nkana, nalelo bawina Chipolopolo! Ba Nkana, nalelo bawina Chipolopolo! Ba Nkana iyee, Ba Nkana Chipolopolo! Ba Nkana iyee, Ba Nkana Chipolopolo!”

  2. I look forward to seeing Mighty back.I think Nkana will be in a shock in the premier. After playing division one soccer with their holigan supporters. Welcome and please behave other wise we shall be taught lesson more that what ZESCO taught you.

  3. The writing is on the wall, in clear black and white.
THE DREADED DEVILS, KALAMPA NKANA FC ARE BACK!!!!
    Iyeee Ba Nkana Chipolopolo
    Ba Nkana Iyeeee
    Ba Nkana Chipolopolo

  4. We are back. It was inevitable to be back to where we belong and it will take a miracle to go back to the doldrums of Zambian soccer.

Beston Chambeshi has always been a good coach and we hope to see more of him at national level.

I wish to see Mighty back so that we can revisit the great days of football in Zambia.

Meanwhile Bafana Bafana woes continue as they given a another beating(2-0) by the Azzuri boys (Italy.

We hope to inflict more agony on Pereirra when we meet them next week

  5. Well done Kalampa. We hope and pray that you are back to stay in the Super laegue. I also appeal to to Kalampa hard core disciples to rally behind the team becoz it will definately not be easy to adjust to the country’s top flight soccer. Nkana will be tested again on independence day when they meet Nchanga Rangers in the Mosi Cup 7th Round game. Congrats the Red Devils and Good Luck. Mr Born Rich am sure its all smiles.

  6. It has been a long wait. We have endured redicule from nonentities.
Kelvin “Malaza” Mutale (MHSRIP) and Eston “Yellowman” Mulenga would get a heart attack if they heard that ZESCO is the FAZ Premier League Champions! Anyway, we are now we are back to the zedian “Big League” with 2 games to spare!!!!!

Like kafupi said, “Twachula Pafula!”. By the way do you know that King Fred Kafupi is a die hard kalampa supporter?

Nalelo eeeeeeee Ba Nkana ba wina
Nalelo eeeeeeee Ba Devil ba wina

  7. RN Pretoria, I think we are capable of wacking Nchanga Rangers. So far we have beaten Kabwe warriors in two occassions and we have managed to beat Young Arrows. We have fallen to ZESCO and Konkola Blades.
Nchanga Rangers have had a bad patch this season, They had to hire Malitoli to survive religation. Last week they managed to survive religation without playing a game, meaning they relied on the misfortune of others.
Anyway, all things being equal we will wack Rangers.

  8. The revival of one of Zambian football greatest soccer rivalries is on the cards when Nkana meets Nchanga Rangers in the Mosi Cup.

I remember, as a small boy growing up in Chingola, how tense Nchanga/Nkana games used to be. I wish I were home to see this one. It will definitely be a classic

  9. #12 Ba Kemps this will be more than a soccer game.
In the last few years there has been a growing rivalry between Malitoli and Chambeshi on who is a better coach. On two occassions each one of them has ben fired in preference for the other as coach at Nkana. The success of Nkana this season is a matter of heated debate as both Malitoli an Beston have laid claim to it. Bubble is now coach at Nchanga.

  10. #13. Hats off to Malitoli, He is a parameter in Nkana’s Success Equation for their promotion to the Super League. So is Beston Chambeshi!!!
This will be a cracker of a game
Long Live Malitoli, Long Live Beston
    Long Live Kalampa.

  11. I told you that we are coming back nkana kalampa na tubwela watchout 4 good football we are forming zambia B GO GO NKANA.DIE HARD NKANA SUPPORTER 4 LIFE.

  12. WELL DONE NKANA BUT THE PRBLEM IS THAT I DONT KNOW WHICH TEAM YOU ARE GOING TO BEAT IN THE SUPA LEG. I DONT THINK YOU CAN BEAT AS AT SUNSET.ZANACO FOR LIFE LETS GO BOYS THE LEG BELONGS TO AS ZESCO ASHIMINEFYE.

  13. Nkana supporters, Congratulations on the promotion of your one time zambia’s great club- Nkana. May I also congratulate Malitoli, Chambeshi and Management for the hard work in ensuring Nkana got back where it rightly belongs. A word of caution however, is that, do not dwell so much on past successes thinking that Nkana will go on and lay hands on the Premier league trophy. Soccer has changed in Zambia and from the look of things, the reverse is happening, soccer is coming back to CB.

  14. Zesco has won the league, followed by GBFC, Kabwe Warriors nd Power Dynamoes. The latter is slowing reclaiming its position in the zambian football, despite struggling, it is on a respectable 4th finish. Fans are likely to see the old rivalries between Nkana vs GBFC, Nkana VS P/Dynamos etc to be rekindled. However, Nkana need to strengthen its squad and get a lot of quality players, kalaba is available, and others.Good luck in the premier league.

  15. Thanks #18 Chips. As I said before, I know it won’t be easy for Nkana as we know that before, every team in Zambian soccer always wants to beat Nkana to prove a point. Management at Nkana must be aware of this. They should out rightly enforce the striking force. Go rural and find unsung heroes such as Kelvin Mutale. Also go urban and find the likes Jack Chanda and others.

  16. Teams without history dont inspire business. Let Devil Devil, Mighty, Warriors and Buffaloes start meeting each other in FAZ premier league and soccer will be re-born in Zambia. Fans will watch players will play with their hearts and business will make some money. Come on Mighty get back where you belong!

  17. ctd. You definitely need to strengthen the squad before you get back into the waters to swim. Do not wait until you start drowning to do so. We congratulate you once again and wish you and your fans the best.

This is the time to build and develop from succes in to prosperity in the Zambian soccer fraternity both at loCAL and club levels. All the clubs are vital because they contribute to the national team.

  37. I agree with #40. It is true Nkana produced quality players unfortuntely time has its own fate. Let Nkana management and supporters focus on the future of this rejuvenated team so that it stays in the Premier League forever. It will be painful, not for Nkana die hard supporters only, but for the entire soccer loving Zedians to see Nkana return to Div one again. ‘Mighty’ should also fight hard to regain the lost glory.

  38. #46. RN Pretoria
In as much as we focus on the future, it is perfectly fine to talk about the “good old days”. It is part of our heritage.

Contrary to what #40 wants to make us believe we are NOT in any way “soothing a crying baby by declaring old successful harvest days”. There is NO baby crying. We have had a bumper harvest this year. This cannot be denied.

    Viva Kalampa Heritage!!
    Viva Kalampa Future Prospects!!!

Long Live Nkana FC ; You are Zambia’s Greates Team of ALL TIME!!!

  39. #46
I Agree with you. As a die hard Nkana fan we must begin to re-enforce the team with new players who are capable of withstanding Premier league action. The fibre of the current Nkana players is not sufficient to cope with Premier league action. The first objective of the Club should be to survive relegation and end up mid table next year. No illusions

  44. #45 Dick Shonga came from Malaiti Rangers and not ZESCO.
Malaiti was sponsored by ZESCO HQ in Lusaka, notable players at Malaiti were:
    Dick Shonga
    Dennis Kabwe
    Charles Katai
    Joseph Mwadila
    William Mtonga
    Stanley Kapasa
    Nelson Sakala
    Chris Gazza Tembo

  45. Nkana to up salaries, allowances
    By ELIZABETH SAKALA

NKANA Football Club chairman, Derrick Mpundu says the club will increase salaries and allowances to boost morale in the players as they prepare for the Super League next season.

And Chambishi secretary, Mubanga Chasaya said the club would extend Beston Chambeshi’s contract as a way of honouring him.

  46. Mpundu said in Kitwe yesterday that the club would increase salaries and allowances for the players to keep alive their hopes of staying in the super division.

He said the club was happy about the team’s achievement saying the executive was ready to do anything for the team to remain in the elite League.

Mpundu urged the players to be focused and never lose hope as there was nothing new except that they were promoted to the higher ranks.

  47. Citizen #43, great job. I did not know I could not recall all those Nkana names! I actually remember all of them now! # 40 Power, you are right in one sense but I feel that, It is important to know history to understand the present and to plan for the future.

  48. #49. RN Pretoria
The above two comments should be enough to convince u that pipo are not sleeping at Nkana. I’m sure the technical bench is also looking at ways of drafting in new players in the squad.

No one is saying things are going to be easy. Just like any other team, it will not be easy for Nkana.

All we are doing as supporters is what we know best: Cheering the team. There are people who are employed to strategise on the techinical and other aspects AND they are doing that!!!

  49. #43 CITIZEN, Reuben Sakala never played for Mindolo United. His career started at Sanctuary City (under Ba Abby – Abineli Zulu – founder and coach), a Chamboli base soccer recreation club. Was identified by Butler but became rooted in the team under Simwala. Stephen Mwansa became Goalkeeper when Ben was still playing under Simwala and could not have been promoted from B side by Ben (#45). This, I know well as a Chamboli Kid.

  50. #54 Ba Masu,
I admit my slip, the Name Malaiti had been lost somewhere in my memory I could only recall the sponsors. Yes Dick Shonga came with Dennis Kabwe. About the same time that Dominic Sikazwe arrived from Monze Swallows to Join Nkana.

  51. I remember one memorable match When Power played against NKana at Athur Davis stadium.Power were leading 2-1 at the time. Simwala substuted Obrian Shumbwa who was having a torrid time with power defender Charles Kafula and replaced him with Dennis Sikazwe Who recieved a perfect cross from Muselepete”Amalume” he beat the power keeper and with an empty goal shot over the bar. After this one touch he was immediatly substituted for Diman Chiboni new arrival from Mutondo stars.

  56. #33,Justice, thankyou for the preview if this soccer hsitory but you work is incomplete because you left the master dribbler… guess who?… Alex Chola and Godfrey Ucar Chitalu 107 goals in one single season. Ala twali na baume mwefyana! ninshiku shatucita fino.

  57. #59 Ba Chanda Kaunda my regards and repects..
We are both right. Nkana division withdrew sponsorship from Mindolo United and it become an amateur side under the kitwe league. I saw Reuben”strong body” Sakala playing for this team against Mindolo Rifles a police team.In the team were Lazzy, Biggie Mbasela who joined Big Coke,Assely who joined warriors,Enerst Kazika the young brother to Golden who went to Mutondo stars who later commited suicide and Able Kasempa who joined Kitwe united.

  58. #59 On Stephen Mwansa….

Ben Pabili who was related to Simwala become assistant coach at 29 years. Due to ill health Simwala was elevated to technical advisor and Ben took full Charge of the team.It was his influence which enabled Stephen to start featuring for the main team. You may wish to note that Fighton decided to run to South Africa because Ben was being favoured to become Nkana Coach over him although Fighton had a coaching certificate.

  59. The name KALAMPA was coined by a Slightly cripped vendor with short dreadlocks who used to go round the terraces during matches selling woolen paraphenelia in Red devils colours such as armbands/devils pocket tags and neck tags. His selling slogan was Devil kalampa, devil kalampa, devil kalampa.

  60. #66-69 Citizen

Can you reveal your true identity because all this info about Nkana drives me to think that I know you very well. Only die hard Nkana supporters can reveal so much about the team.

  61. I am really enjoying revisiting our rich soccer history and heritage.
KALAMPA FANS may you please gives us a probable lineup during kalampa`s unbeatten season.Hey guys I don`t even mind even those that were on the bench.
Ba POWER SUPPOTER,the only team that lifted the continental championship.POWER 90 give us some data.
Ba MIGHTY,CITY YAMOTO and obviously not forgeting my team BRAVE NCHANGA RANGERS supporters,it`s MBILI YAKALE!!!
    I really having fun.

  62. Ucar 11 goals in Kenya its only that professional football was not popular at that time. I remember Axel Chola had a short stint in Brazil. We used to call him our Zambian Zico. Those were great players. How about that guy from Kalomo who was coaching ZANACO in the mid 1990s a midfielder. There comes the ball to AShus Melu back to Jentile Kapapwe Mulenga all the way to Derby Mankinka to Chali Charles Musonda, On the left Kalusha Bwalya is waiting for the ball. He passes to Johnson Bwalya.

  63. oh mama rokana…
