  1. God have mercy on our president, have mercy for zambia,God we leave everything in your Holy hands.visit our nation at this particular time, let Your Holy Spirit be within zambia right now, amen.

  2. Thank you very much Mr RP but we expected more details as well as what happens now to the leadership.Obviously he is gathering as much information as possible and this being the first time in Zambian politics where a President is taken ill will require a lot of consultations.
Would have been better if he were to be more informative like the leaders in Israel when Sharon was taken ill.I understand that it a bit of a taboo in Zambia to speak of a way forward but it is only reality.

  3. The vice president must be joking how can he say his condition is stable when the president is in ICU. The president was in a coma in the Egyptian ICU and now he has been flown to France where he is also attended to in the ICU, so what is the difference and how can the vice president say he is stable? If that’s true we give GOD all the praise and Glory.

  4. #2 My friend, this is Africa and Zanbia is the real Africa, talking about the way forward is like wishing LPM dead and that is taboo. We still want to be taken by surprise and overtaken by events. It’s our culture and lets us just live the experience. Not nice but that is what it is. Let him first recover and we shall discuss those issues. I can bet the shushus have their hears open and anybody alluding to the way forward story will be fired as soon as the president recovers.

  5. The whole Nation is anxious and the best way to tackle this would be to explain to the nation what really is going on and what temporary measures are to be taken.
The pres does need time to recover quietly somewhere with less hustle.A place where he can wake up in the morning to the sounds of birds singing and not having to deal Mugabe’s madness.

  6. According to the Egyptians, AP, reuters and others he has suffered Cerebral hemorrhage and was in a semi coma. This does not look good. He will probably pull through but not enough to govern adequately. He should step aside and let the Veepee take over.

  7. Guys,Its not new for a head of state to be ill.He has a cabinet which should be fully functional currently. Its better for us to be notified as to whether his condition is life threatening or whether he can never ever recover then yes the constitution is very clear on that if not it should. Its only three days since he has been unwell and we seem to demand for a replacement.I think we need to educate ourselves with what the law of the land says in such situations

  8. #3 I think Zambians are really in the dark about the condition of the president. No one is giving a full detailed facts. I don’t know if the president is really in a comma or is in the ICU because they drugged him to stabilize the situation, I don’t know just speculating. One thing I know is people who are conscious don’t go to the ICU. Doctors on this blog where are you, please unpack this for us. Time to show your expertise now on this strike/stroke/straka(depending on who taught you)

  9. #4 I do understand where you are coming from but nowadays it is about planning and not just 1 day or 1 week or 1 year but 5 to 10 years from now, what next .If you have ever taken a life insurance policy you will understand that.
Suffering a cerebral bleed is a medical emergency and recovery can be long. The state of the nation is at stake. We have had a leader who has been taken ill.

  10. Article 39 states in part…
    (2) If the President is incapable by reason of physical or mental infirmity of discharging the functions of his office and the infirmity is of such a nature that the President is unable to authorize another person under this Article to perform those
functions: (a) the Vice-President; or (b) during any period when the Vice-President is absent from Zambia or is himself, by reason of physical or mental infirmity, unable to
perform the functions of his office, such member of the Cabinet as the Cabinet shall elect; shall perform the functions of the office of President.

  11. God’s Will will be done, fellow Zambians. The Republican President Mr LP Mwanawasa is in safe hands.

To all of us Zambian, “[Deuteronomy 31:6 + KJV Bible] Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he [it is] that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”

  12. Provided that any person performing the functions of the office of President under this clause shall not dissolve the National Assembly nor, except on the advice of the Cabinet, revoke any
appointment made by the President. (3) Any person performing the functions of the office of President by virtue of clause (2) shall cease to perform those functions if he is notified by the President that the President is about to resume those functions or if another person is elected as, and assumes the office of, President. (4) For the purpose of sub clause (2), a certificate of the Chief Justice that (a) the President is incapable by reason of physical or mental infirmity of discharging the functions.

  13. #9 Only unconscious patients are admmited into ITU otherwise if conscious he could be on the High Dependancy Unit.

  14. #10, Hola, I guess you are not Zambian and I understand where you are coming from. You make a lot of sense, but as I said this is Africa and all those life insurance polices u r on about, how many Zambians know that on the street. There is something about life in Africa that we respect. You can’t be talking about looking for a second wife & marriage in the name of planning when your wife is in a coma. Come on man. That is being unafrican. Don’t you get it. When for the right moment. We have a functioning cabinet, Perm secs and a VP. Just chill out & pray man. Mugabe is not invading Zambia tomorrow

  15. Dante, why do you forget article 38???

The country would need to go to the polls within 90 days….

  16. Egyptian doctor: ZAMBIAN LEADER IN SEMI-COMA BUT ‘STILL ALIVE’

SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt (AP) — Head of the Egyptian hospital that treated Zambia’s president after he fell ill during the African Union summit here, says the Zambian leader was in a semi-coma but “still alive” when evacuated to Paris.
Saeed Abdel Fattah Essa says the Zambian president had a “brain hemorrhage” which Egyptian doctors managed to stop. Essa also says that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak visited the Zambian at the hospital before he was flow to France at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

  17. wish the president a quick recovery, people can you stop discussing whether the president should step down or not cos he is the only leader we got at the momment who is capable of doing the job,do u expect HH to be next president or finished people like miyanda or sata?

  18. HAEMORRHAGIC STROKE OR INTRACRANIAL BLEED LEADING TO STROKE IS AN EMMERGENCY AND DEPENDING ON THE PART OF THE BRAIN INVOVED AND THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE,INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (ICU) BECOMES INNEVITABLE.YOU DO NOT NECESSARIRY NEED TO BE UNCONSCIOUS TO BE IN ICU,RATHER DEPENDS ON THE VITAL SIGNS OF THE PATIENT,AND WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS NEED FOR CLOSE MONITORING WITH ICU EQUIPMENT OR NEED FOR VENTILATORY SUPPORT ETC.OTHERWISE ICU Mx IN THIS CASE IS IDEAL.GOD TOURCH OUR LEADER!

  19. #17 thank you for the advise but let me also clarify my point on planning. If you were running a large corp were to be taken ill you wouldn’t let the company to be on stand still but will have put measures in place just in case.
It might be in your view unafrican not to prepare for disasters but let us face reality.LPM has a vision for Zambia and that dream should live on despite what happens.
also the analogy used in terms of a husband looking for wife does not tally with this.A man can do without a new wife but the nation needs a navigator.

  20. #16 within 90 days,

note that the constitution bars him from undoing things that the incapacited President put in place without cabinet’s approval. So he can’t fire ministers without their approval, which forces him to seek a mandate from the people if he really wants to govern.

I have always told my friends that the VP should be appointed from parliament, right now we are being ruled by someone (RP) who nonone voted for!

  21. Sincerely, my heart at this time goes out to the Mwanawasas. I join them and every Zambian in wishing HE The President a speedy recovery.

However, I also want to make an open plea to the first family to advise the president to call it a day by taking early retirement. We appreciate his contribution thus far and we believe it’s time he passed on the batton to someone else.

    God bless mother Zambia.

  22. Dante,

The other issue is that this really is Mwanawasa’s making. He abolished the post of VP in MMD. So not only will the country have no one to replace him, the party will have no one. We are entering a significant period of uncertainty for the MMD and the country as a whole.

So MMD would have to elect someone and then contest within 90 days. When would they be able to introduce the new candidate to the nation?

  23. RB is lying to us, word is:

LPM in coma. Talk of moving him to Germany. Looks like bad health caught up w/him this time. Chief Justice to make decision on new election date on cabinet’s advice. In addition, word is that he had a nasty paralysis. NY and London have been dumping the Kwacha today – watch end of week exchange rate. Talk of Sata upsetting the applecart already?

  24. Hola is right – just look at Bill Gates steping down…he know whether or not he kicks the bucket, his dream/vision will live on. Unfortunately the African has yet a distance to travel before he learns this. Mwanawasa, l wish you all the best and a quick recovery.

  25. LPM is at Val-de-Grace hospital. He’s condition remains un clear. People visiting him, including politicians, are not saying anything. The French medical personel speaking are doing it on condition of anonymity. Aparently, France has very strict guidelines governing medical privacy. Even the French Foreign Ministry is not confirming anything. I’m surfing French TV channels and not getting much from there either.

    Things are not looking good.

  26. From reliable sources. With sadness and a heavy heart – Sorry country men and women – PRESIDENT MWANAWASHA IS DEAD – 2hrs 30min ago.

  27. This will give the NCC an eye opener to stop politiking and look at the constitution seriously.in UK ,USA and most first world nations the vice president can become president and finish off the term or the party can choose some one to finish the term. But we dont have a system. You first gonna have CJ become presida and then go fo polls in 90 days. All this bull crap can be avoided. Human beings can fall ill or die anytime. We have no control over that. But we can plan for such eventualities. Alot of you seem suprised well i’m not. LPM is a heart attack waiting to happen. The man weighes a ton. Folks the days when getting FAT was a sign of wealth are over. We eat GMO okey…..

  28. I visited Zambia online and find the entry below insightful. It gives one a picture in prayers and prepares the mind.

Name: Bwembya | Country of residence: Zambia | Written: Wednesday, 2 July 2008 (16:03)

As already aware, His Excellency President Mwanawasa is now in a specialist clinic in France in company of his physician among the medical professionals. His condition is medically being described as “stable” but concerns are still high.It will probably be a few days before more realistic assessment is arrived at which the VP His Honor Rupiah Banda will update the nation with details.

  29. You dont have to eat whatever is served. I know there is alot of food in the dog house but hey, its a choice. Remember at one poit it was even fashionable to have BP. LPM’s misfortune is a wake up call. Take care of yourselves. Cut on Mosi and ‘heinekken’. develop some workout routing to burn of that bulging belly. LPM can do very little to fix his problem right now but you can….’Again i know nothing’.

  30. also nshima was introduced as a “cheap slave food”. Europeans feed it to their horses. Maybe it made sense back in the day but today and our stressful jobs its a killer. Nshima with rice and deep fried fish (in a pool of boiling oil) may go down, however its a death sentence!

  31. Unfortunately, #31 we share the same bad news, also got something like that 3hrs ago,but everything in God’s hands, hope its not true.

  32. It is amazing how the baroste fanatics try to use every opportunity to promote their useless ideas like this line

“Royal Highness the Litunga Lubosi Imwiko the II , the Kuta and the entire people of Barotseland”

Imwiko should be reminded that there is no such thing as barotseland, were does it start and end? This is not a time to use someone else’s tragedy to promote useless and outdated tribal agendas. What a load of nonsense. Get well soon LPM.

  33. Easy # 33,

Thanks for that excerpt from Zambia online. I take it as a clear psychological preparation. We should bless ourselves for any development God forbid.

“His condition is medically being described as “stable” but concerns are still high.It will probably be a few days before more realistic assessment is arrived at” Quote

  34. if the Lord was gracious enough to let Sata live, we can only hope his mercy will also be extended to the man who is responsible for Cobra still being alive!!!LPM’s time cannot be now…he still has the responsibility of overseeing a transition from his presidency to the next. May all available good fortune shine upon LPM in his time of need….ONCE AGAIN!!

  35. I got this from allafrica.com..
According to the Zambian constitution, which is being reviewed, should a serving president die in office or become incapacitated, the vice-president would immediately assume the presidency for the remainder of the five-year electoral term”

What does the constitution really say about succeeding the presida when incapaciteted or dies?
    somebody help us

  36. God intervene in the life of your son again we dearly need him to finish the transformation. Where you feel his mission is over, grant us unity and sustainable peace. According to the Zambian constitution, which is being reviewed, should a serving president die in office or become incapacitated, the vice-president would immediately assume the presidency for the remainder of the five-year electoral term.

  37. While wishing LPM a quick recovery do not misuse the word “stable”, the word simply means not getting worse or better.

So if he was in a semi-coma then he is in the same condition. It is different from “improving” or “detoriating”.

  38. Socrates,

The constitution is clear as its been put by the UN Integrated Regional Information Networks on allAfrica . com. “According to the Zambian constitution, which is being reviewed, should a serving president die in office or become incapacitated, the vice-president would immediately assume the presidency for the remainder of the five-year electoral term”

  39. Life and death are in the hands of the Creator. Let us give thanks to Him for sustaining our head of state. Hallelujah!

  40. # 45, what happens, as in this case, where the VP is a nominated MP? Do we confer an elective position to an non elected person? Thsi will be a wake-up call to NCC – the Vice Presidencey should be elected as a running mate to the President. This will also bring to an end, the firing of a VP over trivial issues.

  41. Magogofacts – USA,
The serving VP will still serve for the remaining years of the dead President’s tenure. That is the period of consolidation and divisions.

  42. One thing negative about our constitution is that there are a lot of “ifs’. Examine the part about delegating power, it ultimately always points back to the President himself. Cabinet should meet and decide the best way forward for the sake of the country, even the Chinese investors don’t like uncertainty in leadership.

  43. The Interational community is already predicting political turmoil. Why do they think Africa always resorts to violence?Zambia is a peace loving Nation and we hope this will be a peaceful moment.
Yes some people will capitalise on the fact that RB is a nominated VP and the some opposition parties might use this as a weapon but at the end of the day this is what goes in all political parties in the world.

  44. #31, Shame on you! That’s not even a joke, you’re simply putting a curse on yourself and your children. Repent!
#35, Your cranium must be diluted. I can’t allow you to dis our national dish like that, chi mwaiche! Who told you such rubbish? Nshima has been the real African food for years, standing in a class of it’s own and it has no contestants. How could Africa ever produce sportsmen of outstanding stamina if the diet was as bad as you say? It don’t make sense.

  45. I suggest the runner-up of the prior presidential election should take office if the current president is incapacitated

  46. In our culture, when one is persimistic about other peoples illnesses, even if the reality may suggest so, he would be suspected to be a witch. Let’s be opmtistic people and join other Zambians of good will in kpraying for our president’s recuperation. Let’s be patriotic as proud Zambians. May God Bless Zambia and it’s leadership!

  47. I believe the constitution states that elections have to be called for and held within 90 days and not that the vp serves the remaining term. The quorte on allAfrica.com is wrong. Let me come back with the correct clauses on this issue.

  48. #51 no need to insult your colleague over Nshima. He has a point.Ever wondered why Idians have high cholesterol,Diabetes and Hypertention?Check their diet. Most illnesses in the world are diet related. Why are heart diseases rampant in the UK?The traditional Fried Fish and chips.Few people eat shima in moderation and what do they eat it with?Fried Kapenta and oily vegetables.
I don’t agree about Nshima being food for slaves/horses bit but who knows?Rape vegetable is grown purely for oil and horse feed.Do I care?Absolutely no.

  49. Let the President get a rest and quick recovery in Paris. However we need to start thinking about reality especially role of vice presidents in Zambia. It is not good that the president handpicks a person to be president..We deserve a democratically elected vice president. Please let us amend this in the next constitution that two people be on the ballot for president and vice president. This is to safeguard the intergrity of the office of the presidency sadden vacancy. We wish Dr. President quick recovery in Paris…but lets not fear talk about reality.

  50. #51, If only I could put it any other way. Unfortunately, this info. came from reliable sources at the Ministry of Home Affairs, and I am hoping that this is not true.

I am miles away here in the USA but I have my heart for Zambia. Boy, I wished you knew me before you go accusing like that.

  51. Magogofacts – USA # 31,

Just as you have chosen to be overzelous in a wrong way, you could choose to be mature and true to yourself. The Nation and its people of good will around the Globe are united in faith for the best. No one is immortal but exhibiting the zeal and passion for any human being especially a national institution which has leaved for the common good is a null. The command in place has been sincerely true to the task that you peddling your wishes is nothing but a personal diservice.

  52. lets pray for our leader. The v p may be trying to avoid a national alarm.May Jehova God heal our president. lets pray for our leader. The v p may be trying to avoid a national alarm.May Jehova God heal our president.

    kabotolo

  53. No one is immortal but exhibiting the zeal and passion for death of any human being especially a national institution which has lived for the common good is a null. The command in place has been sincerely true to the task that peddling your those hilarious wishes is nothing but a personal diservice.

  54. just got a text msg like 33 from USA.Can someone tell us the truth.#33 is not cursing he just wants to know the truth.

  55. No harm intended but if the president can attain his nick name, then there must have been a serious problem in the beginning. Lets not pretend that all has been well with the president. A year ago I was asked by a Nigerian collegue what was wrong with Zambians to subject an already ill looking man to the stress of presidency? She went on to let me know that we were putting the man on public gallows and killing him slowly. I have watched the president and he exibited dilligence and love for mother Zambia but this was taking a toll on his life. Sorry to the Madame and Children but she should could have done better as a person who knew her hubby’s health files.

Sorry for the lengthy article. I hope it brings to an end or gives a clear idea of our contitution.

  62. spectator,
Get to the core of our constitutional democracy and implied powers of VP in advent of demise of a seating President God forbid. It is very clear that all instruments of the Executive office and statecraft shifts to the VP.

  63. #38 i think it’s you who is pushing some tribal agenda.how can you turn a general statement of well-wishing into something more than what it was? i think, my friend, it is you who is tribalizing a situation/statement that is in no way asserting any tribalism. in fact, IF the litunga meant to be tribal his statement would have only cited the well-wishes as coming from the Lozi people alone…. BUT what he ACTUALLY said was that ALL the PEOPLES of barotseland (which is in its contemporary usage more of a geographical term) wish LPM well — and by that he means all the tribes, including the luvale, nkoya, shanjo, subiya, mbunda, etc. so i think perhaps you should visit a mirror before firing

  64. The VP assumes all implied powers of the Executive office on resolution of cabinet in line with the constitution.

  65. #73 it is only for six months and elections shall be held. Anyone who wants that whole constitution can post their email address and i can forward it to them. I think I have the whole 1991 document.

  66. The president is dead imwe mwebantu..!!!! Remember when Kabila died, we were kept in the same darknes. The same thing happened when Pope John Paul II died. The thing is they ant us to prepare our minds and government is busy moving power into other hands. We are going thru the same vacuume right now as zambians. When they announce they would have already setup replacements in various positions that will have to change. To cut the long story I can rest assure you Mwanawasa is gone. MHSRIP.

  67. # 79 This is a fact. Get it from me. I have inside information. The announcement will come by EOD Thursday.

  68. Chintomfwa, France,

Slow down brother, Government has set up a communication Command center headed and chaired by the Vice President. Some things are better handled through established structures than laymen fillers. The issue of the President is very sensitive Government has the mandate to timely communicate and offer its people assurance that all instruments of power are intact and in control under any scenario. You cannot hide death God forbid. The nation is already in distress and wisdom must prevail as much as you want to make look like you have access to one of so line people. It would create unnecessary panic or kafwafwa to approach this quagmire with such a loose mind.

  69. No news is better news than hearing that the president is well.I know yo enermies are slowly getting happy but they are rest assured that the coruption fight will never be stopped.GET WELL SOON LPM

  70. What is it with our vice and “ichipuba” george Mpombo shedding crocodile tears over LPM ‘s recovery service? it is sad that we never saw banda shed tears for his own mother? these fortune seekers will sure do anything to please their master. Mpombo chipuba sana, i pity his wife and children? He is what we call the “how high” men? if requested to jump by LPM he would simply ask ” how high” instead asking for the why/motive? Anyway i wish our LPM well as so far he has done something towards empowering our country folks that are in the non employment sector. As for Banda and Mpombo wipe your crocdile tears…the nation is watching you?

  71. number 63 can you please stop using my alias each time you post a comment. continue with muchende wachitonga and stop including “Tonga Bull” in brackets. No offense, my fellow bull?

  72. Imwe bama Prastic # 81, stop assuring the casualties. Chitomfwa # 80 is right. His H.E.L.P is no more.

  73. Chintomfwa, France,

Its not very professional or ethical for whatever level of access to the command one has to keep flaunting in blogs that “I have inside information, I have inside information, I have inside information” the President is dead. This is an issue beyond simplicity for yourself, me and all our country folks.Whatever happens, Government has the mandate to make sure all is in place for any development.

  74. #84 i include tonga bull to explain to people what muchende wachitonga means in english as you know someone might misinterpret it.At least people can tell we are two different people as the other tonga bull is in brackets. The are main tonga bulls out there and iam one of them.bakwesu no offence.

  75. The other fundamental reason why the command should handle any news updates atleast for now is the fact that they are the ones with the duty to make sure that all instruments are activated for any new development the nation may find itself in.If anything state security wings are more involved in his detail but observe such protocol for same reasons.

Peace and blessing to our land

  76. My our president recover. We pray that God bless him with healing. We still need his services and direction my countrymen. God should intervene in his health.

  77. fellow blogers, there is no good news at all,we need to pray for zed,its pipo, and more importantly the LPM’s family.

  78. My prayers goes out to poor Zambian patients dying in our hospital who can’t afford to be evacuted abroad.

  79. When things like this happen, the family, friends, and anyone close to someone who is sick, this is a very hard time to deal with. But as a very peaceful country, lets pray for our leader and his family and the nation that he returns back home well, i know when someone in his position he’s very sick, no one tells or inform the nation the condition of the leader. So as a Zambian, we want our peaceful country to deal with his illness and pray that we unite on every corner. We don’t want Ruwanda, Mozanique, Angola, Zimbabwe, Somali, Sudan, Liberia, Dr Congo or any of those bad countries. Zambia loves our leaders and our elders and kids. Long live Zambia.

  80. whats really going on, because all you guys don’t seem to have factual information. Does anyone really knows whats up?

  81. naikosa pa zed, u guys on the ground, give us data as we are thousand of miles away from zed. leteni data guys.

  82. I will wait a little bit coz even last time there were rumours that FTJ died in south africa but the guy is still ndindindi.

  83. If it is true that LPM is dead, MHSRIP alongside Anderson Mazoka.

Sad that all our leaders are dying in foreign lands due to poor development strategies that place health facilities at the mercy of those with deep pockets.

LPM caused his own death needlessly. Too much fatty foods, a sedentary lifestyle ( he could not be seen exercising or loving soccer), an unloving wife with deep ambitions enough to drown a crocodile, and economic policies that ensured continued enslavement of our people. I guess LPM will be mourned more in China and India where our exploiters enjoy our resources.

  84. Stop misleading people, LPM is not dead. He is recovering and his condition is stable. Stop thriving on rumours, get facts.
Lets pray for his speed recovery, coz we need him.
    Quick recovery LPM.

  85. People don’t base you opnion on rumours. This blog is NOT the official and credible channel.

Lets continue praying for speeedy recovery for our Presido. It is common practise to pray for anyone sick in intenstive care or not.

  86. #104 mashabe, its you alarming the masses with falsehood. Uli namashabe. There is no better alarmist as a shushushu.

  87. #108 i agree with u. Only when the credible sources announce shall we know the truth. other wise let God take control as he is the designer and sustainer of life. No best medical facility will save a life if God says its time up. To the critics like “Doctor”, its a matter of time and you know that GOD exists because no medical or scientific discovery has competed and found the principle of creation to be at fault. GOD exists wether you believe in him or not, he still exists and thats why he made a complex creature like you. The problem with medical doctors, is that they think they own patients lives. In the first place, they(doctors) themselves dont know much about themselves.

  88. Pease stop the fuss, you can’t exite yourselves in seeing our head of state die just like that. God’s time is not your time. Stop speculating death. Let our president rest. Why was he not flown to Britain where they have the case history? God help our president..

  89. I do not think he is dead. We can always be informed officialy by the state if that has happened. However, he must be very ill reading the comment by the Egyptian minister of health when he talked of the evacuation to France. He said LPM was in semi coma condition and secondly there was bleeding in the brain which had to be stopped by doctors in Eqypt. That is a vey bad sign my brothers and sisters.

  90. After reading today’s post newspaper online and seeing Rupiah Banda and George Mpombo wiping their tears in church, i cant help to ask WHAT THE F@#K IS GOING ON? Why are two grown men crying over a man who is not dead? Are these the kind of men we want to lead us. WE CANT HAVE CRY babies as our leaders. Nawakwi( a woman) is not crying but these moth#$$$ng *****s are all tears

  91. France is nearer to Egypt than England. so for an air ambulance to opt for France that should tell us a story. LPM must have been critical.

  92. #113 grow up. Whats wrong with people expressing their emotions? Some of you think that crying is a sign of weakness. You are mistaken and you seem to be someone who is not well informed about life. Grow up young.

  93. Its sad,One thing for sure is that, he can not make it to rule again his condition is not good, thats why they had to take him to france.health minister of Egypt was right.

  94. #113 i have just seen that picture in the post. What sort of men would cry in public over a man who is not even dead. How can they console women iff they are in the fore front crying. Crying in public is for women. I am scared for my country. Nawakwi is amased at what she is seeing also.

  95. We seem to be getting mixed messages from all corners. After 48 hours he is still in a coma which means that he is on life support.Depending on what sort of response he is making (neurologiacally) the Medical Team will will have to decide whether to contiue with the support and for how long.I have seen body organs pack one by one during this time.I have also encountered cases were patients suddenly wake up.
A cerebral bleed is life threatening and prognosis is poor in most cases.Medically speakig he seems to be in a critical situation. He could just be holding with the support of drugs to as well as other machines.

  96. HAHAHA the picture in the post is worth a millions words, are these the kind of leaders we expect

  97. Confirmed reports from a reliable source say the President is no more. Two radio stations in the US have just broadcast the news

  98. Sorry to say, but i strongly feel the President is dead, there is a reason why he was flown to a Military Hospital in France, secrecy. Am sure the cabinet knows whats going on. For now i wont say much. All the best to mother Zambia.

  99. #113& #117 the answer for RB and Mpomdo crying in church instead of being progressive is that they are just crocodiles hungry for power, those two *****s! Levy should dismiss them instantly on his hospital bed because they are alarming the nation. They were praying hard inside so that a bad thing happens but gosh God forbids!! Its not time for Levy to go. They will pay for their sins for crying in church and Long live to our president in hospital or out of hospital!!

  100. i have just received a call from a brother in America that the radio just announced the death of LPM.My sister in France is frantically trying to get a response from the Embassy in France and going by the reaction there it is almost a confirmation

  101. RB AND GM ARE CRYING PROBABLY BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE ACTUAL CONDITION OF LPM. MEN DON’T JUST CRY LIKE THAT. THERE MAYBE SOMETHING THEY KNOW.

  102. A radio station in RSA just announced the death of LPM although it is claiming un confirmed reports.

  103. There is no smoke without fire goes the saying. By end of day today a charttered aircraft will bring the body home. As mean and bad as it soundfs hey, thats just what we have right now. MHSRIP. This “secret” is public knowledge ladies and gentemen.

  104. R. Banda and G. Mpompo are crying NOT for LPM but for themselves. The thought of suddenly becoming jobless could not hold back the tears.

The rumors of LPM’s passing seem to be getting strong but let’s wait for the official news.

  105. You citizens that have brought God into LPM’s illness, leave God out of this. He (God) loves us all, but by our free choice, we have decided to eat junk food, abandon our wives and get diseases elsewhere, drink too much wine (alcohol), take in in cigarettes, let our wives embark on crusades that raise stress levels in our lives, enact policies that grow poverty at all levels and still smile when foreigners praise us for dishing out resources to them, and finally, win all national presidential elections by rigging them in our favour. Tell me, who would not have a sick heart after all these tricks and poor choices?

  106. After seeing that picture, i am worried. Something is fishy why is Rupiah Banda making announcements and not Mulongoti. Then he goes in Church and weeps like a baby. I would bet my bottom dollar LPM is either dead or seriously incapacitated. LPM is not coming back. Lets not lie to our selves the signs are there lets not bury our heads in the sands.

  107. I hope its not true that our loving president is dead. Lets just put everything in the hands of God.

  108. # 126 Ba Chintomfwa you are in France try and get us as much info as possible you are the closest thing we have to our situation.

  109. Number 24.

I’m with you. Men are not easily moved to tears. Hope their tactic to remain mum if LPM is really no more is to allow for proper planning regarding leadership. I am praying that he is still alive though because eish…6months would probably not be enough for us to make wise decisions on who vote in next

  110. If it were in Developed world that vice President of yours would have been grilled by the media for acting like a fool in public. Whatever information they may have, thats not the way leaders behave.

  111. Quick recovery to a president that cares about other people other than just Zambians. Mr. Mwanawasa is the only president who has been brave enough to condemn Mugabe. he cares about porr Zimbabweans too. God be with you, Mr. President. We pray for your quick recovery.

  112. can someone confirm this rumour. too many calls are coming thru we need to know the truth. those of you in france what is the situatuiton? i know America has announced but they are saying unconfirmed reports.the way Rupiah is crying we cant help to imagine the worst

  113. Is it true that the president passed away an hour ago or this is just an unfortunate rumour? Someone please confirm. Otherwise we are all praying for God’s hand in LPM’s recovery. Sad situation.

  114. Much as I dont want to believe #78 it could be true why was the VP crying during prayers yesterday. I thought it is taboo/unzambian to hold a funeral before one dies. Pls plse tell the truth our hearts are in ours hands!

  115. A chinyeke tembo mwachedwa. Confirmed reports on 702 talk radio show has said LPM passed away last nite. The confirmation was made by French foreign affairs and was communicated to BBC.

  116. R Banda is crying for the disaster that will follow the nation for rigging elections in favour of a sick fellow who could not even campaign on his own but whose campaign was by his wife. Maureen has killed LPM. She wanted to be in State House for good and subjected LPM to such stress levels by her involvement in matters that were not her preserve.

LPM will not be missed by the vast majority of us who have been neglected. He insulted us not to have many kids as we were poor. He let foreigners use us as slaves in their businesses and he did not care what happened to us. May the Indians and Chinese mourn him till they are blue. Not forgetting the Rhodies in Mkushi against Mugabe!

  117. it is official ladies and gentlemen we have lost our leader. the confirmation has just been made by Al jazeera. And A l jazeera really confirms its source. What a sad day for Zambia. Those that can switch to Aljazeera . it is not speculation anymore. Goodbye to our comander in chief.

  118. Iwe #140 can you please show some maturity or at least africaness at this sad time. Im sure even your irrelevant mother who made the mistake to giving birth to a stupid like you will be mourned when she dies (which I hope is soon).

    Sad day for zambia indeed.

  119. Again and Again, rumour mongers pls stop. It does mean if you stay in France you always know where Nicholas Sarkozy is!!??.

I really don’t care where you are and who you are, I will be watching the official channels being ZNBC, Zambia Daily mail and times, post..including other credible media entities.

Colleagues CALM DOWN. Which ever way we will be officially be updated by our GRZ.

  120. yes Just heard from a friend of mine from the ministry of foregn affairs that our president has left us.

  121. This is no joke. Can u stop posting rubbish on this blog and alarm everyone. If you dont know keep quiet. How do you wish our leader dead.

  122. Checking for latest news on LPM. Sad that Zambia has not developed its medical institutions even when its first president happened to be a university graduate of its national university! Rational people and systems all over the world really expected him to do his best to make our country a better place for all its citizens.

We do not even have a national burial ground for our top former leaders. He will be buried mixed with those he neglected to uplift. Sad that his legacy will be more of his nepotistic practices and incompetence at all levels of governance. His reliance on the IMF/WB showed how narrowly read he was as these institutions never create winning nations from their policies!!

  123. # 145 What Al jazeera do you know. This is news time can you check THE NEWS before you make a fool of yourself. Do you think i am speakink from without. Let us see who the idoit is between you and me. You owe me an apology

  124. I have checked on aljeezara website. Nothing on our Presido. So that is one rumour out of the window!!

  125. jeez you guys…Can we get a bit serious in here? Before we think of him as our president, try and remember he is also a father/family man and any rumours should first be validated before posting. You don’t know who you could be hurting

  126. #142 Are you sure? if so MHSIP! #140 Pls my brother let this death not divide us but should unity the zedian pipo bcoz it was the last wish LPM.

  127. # 148 BALULA where are you getting your facts from? And what gives you the right to insult pipo with facts. dont be in denial. indeed if LPM has died you owe # 141 an apology.

  128. THIS IS THE TIME AM SEEING STUPIDITY IN THE EYES OF#141 AND #140. God have mercy on our President. You fools u left zambia to stay abroad and pok your noses while disseminating false news on our President.NO citizenship for you guys, you come to Z, you will be foreigners. Abash

  129. Too many brain hemoraeges can lead to death or incapacitation.LPM is either of the two, which puts him in an unfit situation to lead this nation.Tuvote bwangu its time to progress.LET LPM and his policies be no more.Zedians are good at holding state funerals and burying countrymen who die in foreign lands.MHRIP.

  130. Mashabe:

Please post the al jazeera link for all to read on their own.

I am still checking your facts. I hope that LPM is recovering so that we can have some time to plan a better replacement for him as president. We also need time to do a better job to ensure that there is a good working team for country and town planning in Zambia. We need a national burial ground so that those leaders that die like LPM can be buried at this national site.

  131. Ba Banda and Mpombo was crying that they will soongo back to their poverty sticken village in Chipata and Mpongwe. Ba Banda was crying for his prestige job? Too bad Mbuya but you are going to the village and your sweet sixteen wife will run away from you!

  132. Thank God LPM is alive. We need him to come and reverse his many bad policies so that the people of Zambia can be respected by the beggers who come here for our resources.

  133. Chabipa ba levy Bakaamba, but why are some pipo getting angry? Kwati ba Panafricanist,Balula,All keep quiet,Anonymous, etc ala ba Levy nabafwa nifi fine abantu bafwa. Dont be in denial pips.

  134. Now fellas, lets not lose our cool and start calling each other unprintables.Whatever truth lies behind the president’s condition,it will surely come out.In times such as these, where a govt cannot come out in the open to deal with such rumours,i can just say that we need to be men and act as such. Go back to work or carry on with your business.Eventually the facts will come out.

  135. Mashabe indeed has Mashabe coz al jazeera has nothing on LPM could you be more specific. This is no joking matter you know!
Maybe you are praying that he dies, which is not too good.

Please do not alarm the nation like this. And please LT am not posting too quickly. I just have a quick typing skill.

  136. Mwelesa, Posheni ba chilolo, kanabesa, ba kateka ba chalo chesu. Long Live The King. Long Live Your Excellency LPM SC.

  137. anybody with solid infor on this, not wishing him dead but hey….let bantu know
By the way Lusaka Times, what is this story of one sending messeges fast?

  138. You chaps in France confirm the death of our Presz. If its true that he is dead then too bad for us cause the remaining leaders are incapable of leading others.

  139. Guys you can say what you want to say but #11 has guided us to what possibilities are in place to deal with this issue.Yes queries have also been raised where the V is nominated andis not an MP. Can someone please elaborate more on this.I thought the VP is an MP.
However there is concern also on the delay to finalise the constitution.Leaders must refrain to put their own interests ahead of national interests on consitution issues.Do you recal Chiluba tried to change the constitution in order to accommodate his third term run.Lets be careful with greedy leaders. Our nation should be paramount rather than personal gains in leadership

  140. Nothing on Aljazeera website or Tv news.Nothing on 702 Radio(S.A) like #139 Claims. We need confirmed reports with sources guys not just rumours.Ba Born Rich kale!

  141. Just checked several news websites and the latest reported (as at 16 minutes ago) is that Levy is in a stable condition in Paris. Let us wait and see what official announcements will be made before jumping to any conclusions. Zambians let us unit at this time.

  142. This blog has gone to the dogs. No, the dogs have come to the blog. No wonder we lack in development coz we concetrate on non-issues. Pls desist from such uncouth blog mannerisms. It does not help us at all. All you dogs (u know urselves) back to your kennels, you do not belong here. Let sanity prevail!!

  143. Ala kwena some pipo can really wish for someone’s death. LPM should be prayed for his recovery or otherwise but the way some pipo are bringing this whole issue, it is so surprising. The truth shall eventually come out but whatever the case – wishing for his recovery. Patience pays.

  144. Kanjumbe has said it well. Let us not wish anyone dead. Let us wait and get all the facts before concluding.

  145. why are you not telling the truth? we want to know how our president levy is . don’t just leave comments that are not making sense. please be honest

  146. Oh,heavenly father, you the creator of all that has been, you to whom we owe our very existance, whose rays of light makes us see your glory;oh God,i see presudent Mwanawasa as an innocent being though not without mistakes like all of us.I have oberved that his presidence is not stained with misterious deaths like happened in the first and second republic. He is not stained with blood like most presidents around the world. But yet he sufers so much.Though president, every facet of his life seems to be in every measure a misery as i see it.Preserve him and grant him peace.I ask on his behalf because i too am human and impure. However may your will be done for you know best about our lot Amen.

  148. Bishop Imakando who read the scripture from the book of second Kings Chapter 20 verses one to six said there comes a time in life when people are faced with difficult encounters but God was always in control.
He said the country had learnt with great sadness the news that the president had suffered a stroke.
He said just as Hezekiah was healed in the scripture read, God would also heal President Mwanawasa.
“We want to refuse to accept the situation as it is not final. God can intervene. God is merciful, compassionate and heals all kinds of diseases.

  149. am actually streaming al-jazeera right now. not a single mention of the words levy or mwanawasa or president of zambia. what al-jazeera report are u chaps talkin bout

  150. with all the rumours n uncouth language no wonder the african press is highly censored.ps what u post on this sight can n will influence not only the population but the economy aswell ve u checked out the kwacha?n ur words can also amount to sedition

  151. The problem with the media in the West is that they only cover news that promote their agenda. We would have been listening to their breaking news every 5 mins had it been Mugabe or someone else.I wonder if Sarkozy is aware that a head of state is admitted in one of his hospitals.
Let us all unite in supporting one another during this time.He is in our hearts every moment of the day as we hope for the best.

  152. LT IS OK . you should try nairaland.com. that is when you will appreciate what an advaced online publication we have.

  153. My heart bleeds for my beloved country losing a President who was doing so well. I pray that our almight will guide us in selecting a new leader

  154. People please Let us Pray for our President and not wish him dead. This man was meant on leading this country to better heights so let us pray that he does. May God grant him more life even if he doesnt come to lead but to sit with his family, HE IS A GOOD MAN WE MUST ADMIT. Despite the way people make fun of him

  155. The President of Zambia is in safe hands. Please, stop issuing unnecessary comments about him.

“Our greatness as a people will be judged by history in the way we unite as a people at this time of setback and adversity,” Mr Vernon Mwaanga.

  156. BBC News has just confirmed the death of President of Mwanawasa on BBC NEWS – If you can stream live World Update, the news will be repeated shortly.

  157. On a serious note, the man is dead. Lets all just unite and pray that we come out of this difficulty peacefully. Levy played his part in bringing some sanity and pushing the nation forward. The onus is now on us as a nation to pick up from where he’s left. May His Soul Rest in Peace

  158. Here is something I have just copied from France 24 website

    Wednesday 02 July 2008
    By Reuters
SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt – Zambian President Levy
Mwanawasa was transferred to France on Tuesday following
“successful surgery” in Egypt after he suffered a stroke at an
African summit, an Egyptian official said.

Mwanawasa, 59, was rushed to a hospital on Sunday ahead of
the African Union meeting in the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

“He had successful surgery and he was transferred today to
France to continue his treatment,” Egyptian Foreign Ministry
spokesman Hossam Zaki told reporters at the summit venue.

  159. Brothers and sisters, there are as many nights as days and the one is just as long as the other in the year’s course.. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness. ALLAH is the most high

    TOP STORY
BREAKING NEWS – Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa dies
The Zambian High Commission has confirmed that the country’s President Levy Mwanawasa has died.

Mwanawasa suffered a stroke just before the recent African Union summit in Egypt.

The head of the protocol at the Zambian High Commission Malone Zaza says he was transferred to a Paris hospital a few days ago where he was in intensive care.

  161. LPM is unwell but is alive.Stop talking nosense that is misleading people please. The information is there and its clear the president is in a stable condition. He is certainly unwell or in a bad stae.Just join us in praying for him and for the country to go through this difficult period

  162. the problem with our Zambian media is that it is too controlled so we cant get any info. Everybody is tuned to foreign media and naturally they cant treat LPM’s condition as priority. Someone just asked if Sarkosky even knows that LPM is in his country. That is Europe for you. The French dont even know who LPM is so they wont be pressurised to inform us of what is happening. it is amazing that to get access on info about our Presido we have to sniff the west’ asses to let them tell us. What is the min of foreign affairs doing about this and what is the presidency doing about it.Where is the family of Levy. Somebody say something this is frustrating

  163. man is mortal and i dont see anything wrong in the Nation to know and no one should hide that info

  164. BBC World News at 1100 hrs zambian time just said ‘its reported that the zambian presdo is dead more update to come when report we got more news’

  165. you people that may be listenning to the BBC, is it true that LPM is really gone? have problems logging in on the net

  166. IT IS REPORTED ON BBC 1100 HRS ZAMBIAN TIME THAT HE IS ACTUAL DEAD!
God bless Zambia and its pipo
    God bless his family
United we stand divided we fall!

LORD RECEIVED THE SOUL OF OUR BELOVED PRESIDENT
MAY THE SOUL OF OUR DEPARTED PRESDO REST IN INTERNAL PEACE

  167. Condolences to the Mwanawasa family and nation at large.

“It is not the burdens of life that weigh us down, it is how we handle them.”

Late us carry on and continue to foster the necessary development to our people.

  168. Its jusT sad that out of all the comments above, I have just been made even more confused coz now I dont realy know what is going on.Bane kwena na papata why can’t somebody with real news about LPM update us. Relieve me from overthinking please. If LPM is really alive Its my prayer to the Lord to heal my President.

  169. Bashikulu ba SATA dont even think of standing for presidency, we dont want another dead president on our hands. God rest LPM’s soul in peace. Just like all of us, he was not perfect but he did the best he could for zambia. I ask God to touch the hearts of those who hated him so that they may find your mercy duirng this terrible time. God bless Zambia

  170. The bbc world service has just withdrawn this news saying they relied on radio 702 in RSA but it has been denied by ministry of foreign affairs. I’m now confused which is which?

  171. Every one just stop it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LPM is not dead. All news websites are clear. Am sure when people of another nations read this blog site about your writings guys they will think there is nothing inbetween your ears.

  172. yaba, ok this is very confusing. Reuters got the info from South Africa’s 702 radio which said a Zambian High Commission confirmed that LPM died early today

  173. #226 This is not time to talk about elections its time to mourn our beloved leader!
If the LPM died about 0515 zedian time on Thursday as reported -Its means VP knew about the death during the time prayers were being conducted at Cathdral no wonder those tears. And yet he was urging zedian pipo to pray for LPM’s healing – liar. If he can lie over such important issues to zedian about their leader – do you think he can be trust him to lead this country – naa

  174. Ba Banda (VP pls go on Radio zambia and announce to nation the death of its leader dont just shade crocodile tears! Pipo in Rural areas wants to know afterrole they are the ones who voted to him

  175. Zambian President Mwanawasa has died – report

    July 3, 2008 11:14:13

Zambia’s President Levy Mwanawasa waits for other heads of state before start of the Southern African Development Community summit in Lusaka

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa died in a Paris hospital on Thursday after suffering a stroke earlier this week, South Africa’s Talk Radio 702 reported.

The radio quoted a Zambian High Commission spokesman as saying that Mwanawasa died earlier on Thursday morning. Mwanawasa was taken to hospital in Egypt just before an African Union summit on Monday and Tuesday and then transferred

  176. So Guys its really bad for our Country, we have really lost a true leader of our Country at a time when we needed him most.I know that my God the one who gives and the one who takes away will give us another leader like him..MHSRIP
    In tears

  177. hey am in the states and someone sent me a text to say the president is dead thou the internet say`s he`s not.plz keep us informed and wishin him a quick recovery

  178. LEVY LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHAME ON ALL THOSE WISHING FOR HIS DEATH. 179. God bless his family and all my felo zambian all over the worldl and remember that we morn 2getha

  180. It is good noting that President LP Mwanawasa is still alive. To this end, I withdraw my condolences message on #223:
“Condolences to the Mwanawasa family and nation at large…“It is not the burdens of life that weigh us down, it is how we handle them.”…Late us carry on and continue to foster the necessary development to our people.”

Thus, I am wishing him the dear President LP Mwanawasa, SC
    , quick recurperation.

To the nation and his family, God answers prayer and His (the good Lord God) Will be done.

  181. Well people – it appears LPM is clinically dead. We await official notification and pray for our beloved Zambia.

Every one is lamenting on the lack of a clear succession plan – its a hard lesson to learn. Our leadership must never think they are cloacked with immortality – and prepare for such events.

lets prepare for the worst – with the MMD leadership vacuum – God forbid!! Katele Kalumba might resurface

  182. Ladies and gentlemen – brace yourselves – the king cobra is lurking in the shadows. Much as we appreciate the fact that his energy is already spent – the illusion of state house and the power attached to it will blind even the purest visionary.

Rumour has it that call boys and marketeers in Lusaka are calling for an authority figure to address them – authority here is synonymous to Micheal Sata and PF!! God forbid!

  183. My opinion !!!! The brother is dead….. Do you think CNN, BBC, DWtv, SKYnews can all lie or be mistaken….. My main concern is If it is true, why is the government lying to us…… maybe he is clinically dead and is only being kept alive by machine. I think only Maureen can tell us the truth at this time. But if he is alive and speaking…. Knowing how stubborn our president is, dont you think he would have called for a short press conference to prove to his people that he is alive ??? Guys Mwanawasa is not one to hide in the shadows… unless is not the one making the decisions….. But we all hope he is alive… It would be nice to see him walking down the steps of the plane….

  184. Its funny to see how many doomsdayers we have in the country. Why do people suddenly claim authority over bad news. The government will tell us if Mwanawasa is dead not some blogger who wants to feel important about having foretold doom!

  185. I join hundreds of good wishers to pray for Levy Mwanawasa to get well soon in the name of OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. God we always know that to you everything is possible where we find a wall ahead of us you make a way for us, please make a way for Mwanawasa to get through on that situation and come back to Zambia because he is still needed by Zambaia People. Remember promised us to live 70yrs and if gifted 75 to 80yrs. Mwanawasa is yet to that promise.
I PRAY IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, AMEN.

  187. #72If Imwiko wants to wish the president well that is fine, but he should not use that as an opportunity to promote tribal nonsense of talking about a name that is not recognised by anybody but is fanatic relatives with no support from the rest of Zambia. The tribes you have mentioned have their own history, own traditional leaders and have their own way of communicating their views on national matters such as the illness of the President of Zambia. They don’t need spokespersons from late comers in the Western part of Zambia like Imwiko and his relatives. Like #38 said, what a load of nonsense.Tell Imwiko to keep his wishful thinking to himself, Zambia does not need such thinking in this age.

  188. at such a time as this i wish to urge all zambians and continue praying for our president and never forget that to everythiing under the sun there is time and a season.lets all put all political and ideological differences and carry the burden together with mwanawasa family. its not easy to go through what that family is going through. having a father, husband, uncle, brother..etc. in such a state is not very easy..

  189. good people.this is no time to think about whats next.Africans are peace lovers and God loves peace.Kneel down and pray for Levi.Ask the Good lord to hover around zambians and instill in them the strengh and wisdom to only wait for Levi to come back and live together with his brothers and sisters happily again.

Malawians are joining you in prayers for the Doctors to do their job amicably.GOD BLESS.
