Senior Chief Puta of the Bwile people in Chienge district in Luapula province has accused government of belittling his chiefdomship.
The chief said this at his palace during the Builile traditional ceremony following the alleged failure by government to officiate at this year’s ceremony.
Senior Chief Puta told Luapula Province acting Permanent Secretary, Clement Siame, that he was disappointed by government’s alleged failure to send a cabinet minister to grace the ceremony.
Mines and Minerals Development Minister, Kalombo Mwansa, was expected to officiate at the ceremony which took place over the weekend.
Mr. Siame apologized to the chief over government’s failure to send a cabinet minister to officiate at the ceremony but the chief refused to accept the apology and sent the Permanent Secretary away.
Chief Puta also refused to accept government gifts which the Permanent Secretary, Chienge District Commissioner, Goodluck Chisabi and other senior government officiate presented to him.
The traditional leader consequently refused Mr. Siame from officiating on behalf of Dr. Mwansa and immediately appointed Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people in Eastern Province to be guest of honor at the traditional ceremony.
“Your telling us this late that the guest of honour could not make it is a sign that you have belittled my importance. My chiefdom has tried to cooperate with government but not in this manner,” the chief said.
“I don’t want to have anything to do with government. Paramount chief Mpezeni will be our guest of honour for the traditional ceremony this year. You can as well take all your gifts, I don’t want them,” senior chief Puta said.
He ordered Mr. Siame, who was flanked by Chienge District Commissioner Goodluck Chisabi and other senior government officials to keep their gifts which were supposed to be presented to him at the main arena.
And in his speech, Paramount Chief Mpezeni challenged the people in Luapula to harness the abundant water resource and engage in irrigation farming.
The paramount chief noted that the province could assume the position of national food security if it utilized its vast land and water resources.
“We don’t have such water and fertile soils back home so utilize it and produce food for the entire country,” Paramount chief Mpezeni said.

Very childish little chief no wonder you being belittling, how do you refuse the apology and not take even the free gifts given. You are being stuborn for nothing, I thought we all get forgiveness when we forgive others, you are a jake/fake chief!!
tell them chief. they should have sent you bigger presents and not the whisky wich was heavily wrapped in a khaki paper
You did so well musankwa !these chaps are jokers now!how do they tell you the guest of honour couldn’t make it?they were busy working in the dark corners about their allowances!!!that’s very sad…I however, commend you for the good reasoning …next time they will realise you are equally importatnt and especially that there will be a by-elections soon!!
Mwamva mungoni ve alabila. Ndi eukali uyu. Yebo Nkosi,Pezulu.
if you dont know ngoni just zeep it because you are going to unleash an insult. inkosi pezulu means lesa kumulu. i assume you are not comparing a mpezeni to that statement…
Govt cant afford to be sending ministers to every traditional ceremony which are becoming a weekly events these days.
ewe kamudala ufuna chabe recognition yaupuba.
As a matter of fact I heard somewhere that the House of Cheifs was asked by MLGH to submit a list of ceremonies that Government should support and be obliged to attend, so Chief Puta keep your ears to the ground, that is my advice, for a start this is a bad sign.

Teach me Ngoni then. The original Ngoni baba. Iam a proud Ngoni ka.
Ka mudala aka kwena ka fisela!
He really has issues.
There are always better ways of airing one’s displeasure in important matters rather than throwing himslef to the ground like a kid who has been refused candy. He is such a CHILD!
these events are also taking so much time and government resources. we have too many tribes and if the the govt has to send more cabinet ministers to these events, then we are somehow misusing our resources. the govt and tribal leaders must somehow come up with a different solution. on the hand, it isn’t really fair that the govt sends cabinet ministers to some ceremonies. tho the truth is also that they are bigger than this chiefdom. but all chiefs want to be treated fairly. sending a late apology isn’t a good solution either.
talking about original ngoni??? how many people can truly speak original ngoni?? i guess even some chiefs just master a sentence or so… what the ngoni are speaking nowaday in eastern province is a mixture of mostly nyanja and nsenga. its just like few people can truly speak chewa. so stop arguing about original ngoni or whatever. just embrace yourselves as one zambia, one nation. period
Original Ngoni is Zulu my friend. Obviously, you are not Ngoni.
#7. Thanks Mwiinga. That indeed is the official govt position.
Do you know that Zulu is spoken in Southafrica, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi.
This Ka Chief Puta…who the hell does he think he is? Doesn’t he know that there are emergencies? What if Dr Kalombo Mwansa has an emergency? He should appreciate that atleast the permanent secretary was sent there.
Next time he should celebrate his ceremonies with his people. He does not deserve respect becoz he is so disrespectful.

To be honest the ka ceremony for puta was recently introduced. Why does he want to elevate it to the level of mutomboko and others. He has a complex. A stupid one for that matter
ONE ZAMBIA, ONE NATION, ONE PEOPLE
ladies and gentlemen i think we can do away with tribal thing and focus our eyes on developing our country. no one will develop it while we are busy pointing out the tribal issues of who is who. Also lets learn to appreciate our elders and stop critics of insults please.

#14, there is no Zulu language spoken in Zambia today you fool. Decendants of Zulu speaking people in Zambia today live in Chipata district under the leadership of their catankerous paramount chief Mpezeni and the language they speak today is Nsenga which bears just a little semblance to Zulu as spoken in Kwazulu. In Zimbabwe, Mzilikazi’s people, Ndebeles as they are known, still speak a language 90% similar to Zulu currentls spoken in Kwazulu. The only Zambian language similar to South African laguages is Lozi which is basically the same as Southern Sotho spoken in Bloemfontein and Lesotho.
#22 Koswe, imbwa, Chimbwi like whoever gave you that data

Patila akantu ………….
Akashimi kapwa!!
I agree with #20. Hows is all these tribal arguments gonna help us.
country men and women, most of these traditional ceremonies have just been revamped, as africans have now woken up from slumber to respect its tradition and culture. Government should give due respect to all traditional ceremonies irrespective of how big or small period.
