Investor confidence exists despite Levy’s demise

Share

The Livingstone Tourism Association (LTA) says investor confidence in the country will not be disturbed after President Levy Mwanawasa’s untimely death.

LTA Secretary Fredrick Mwendapole who is also former Livingstone Mayor said the investor confidence would be maintained if peace prevails.

Mr Mwendapole said fears by sections of society that investors would withdraw following Dr Mwanawasa’s death had disappeared because investor confidence still exists especially in the tourism sector.

In an interview with ZANIS in Livingstone on Tuesday, Mr. Mwendapole said the late Pesident left a firm foundation of good policies that built investor confidence and it would take goodwill to continue where he left from.

He confirmed that LTA was initially worried like the rest of the country about Dr Mwanawasa’s demise but was later elated that investors were still willing to stay on as long as peace reigned in the country.

Mr. Mwendapole said Zambia had in the past few years managed to be on the top 10 list of preferred tourism destinations in the world saying investors had played a major role in achieving this.

He said Zambians had to continue working with foreign investors if the country was to sustain its development and maintain its status as a peaceful country even after Dr Mwanawasa’s death.

And Mr. Mwendapole disclosed that the LTA was working with government to ensure that tourism investment moved to Kazungula district.

He said it would be a great achievement for Kazungula to become a greater Livingstone because it had tremendous potential for business opportunities and tourism activities.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mwendapole advised the MMD to choose a credible leader with a good vision for the country to succeed President Mwanawasa.

He said the person would not need to be the same as the late President but be committed enough to ensure he achieved the vision the president had for the country.

He said the nation needed somebody with insight and a heart for the poor and underprivileged.

  1. Ba Zambian in Sydney… Comments from people like you who are not on the ground trying to make a difference are not welcome…. At least the marketeers are providing a service to zambians,… or maybe even employing 1 or 2… what are u doing to improve a zambians life all the way out there???!!!

  2. nabwinga ulicipuba saana.why are you telling zambia in sydney nonses.we are paying for our families in schools and employing more than two at home.am not in sydney but am hate coz you are implicating zambians abroad.you are just like levy who once insulted us coz of chirwa.stop it now otherwie you die of stroke too.

  3. Last time when Sata was leading some investors in L/stone had stopped taking their money to the bank, they were heard saying if that guy wins then we are flying back .

  4. “cofused” or “confused”?no matter was you say,if you are not on the ground,it is different.Have you followed the performance of the kwacha against major currencies of late?

  5. Confused (#4) YOU MEAN YOU HAVE FAILED TO LEARN HOW TO WRITE PROPERLY? IT APPEARS YOU STILL HAVE OBLIGATIONS WITH THE EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL OF ZAMBIA. “AM HATE” OR “I AM HURT”?? NONSES..

  6. On a serious note why should Sata be instructing the media on how they cover his story? I remeber a time when the post covered his campaignes so much that he was is love with them and today he says he will not give them any interviews but instead deal with the times because of the picture they showed of him in Chipata. We have media reforms that are in process with such attitude honestly what will become of it??????????

  7. Investors are not only the Chinese and Indian marketeers. Investors are those that come and create jobs, add value to the economy and bring wealth. So people, lets not brand every trader of Indian, Chinese, Lebanese origin an investor, they are merely traders! Investors actually get an Investment License.

  8. Very good #9 and #2 puting what both of you say makes the whole thing complete. There are foreign and local investors. And people like chineese there not bad they have come to do business.Better working conditions are to be adjusted by the government and the chinese and all will all adjust and heed to what government says.

  9. #8 What instructions did the big man ba Sata give to the Post? Plse kindly share..

#9 The Indians and Chinese came into Zambia in the name of investment. Dont you wonder why they are called investors when indeed they are just traders?

  10. To me its very important that the policy formulators relook at the FDI rule. To me this has a lot of loop holes and is very weak. If not is not done, then the Indians, Chinese and even South Africans will continue thriving in Zambia as Investors.

    FDI is Foreighn Direct Investment…..

  11. #14 you are right, there are big holes indeed in the system…but i thinking as foreign investor we are just waiting to see who the next president will be and the policies he’ll bring on board then people can talk about investor confidence rightly

  12. AS MUCH AS WE SAY THAT INVESTOR CONFIDENCE IS NOT BEEN DISTURBED WE NEED THE CENTRAL STATISTICS OFFICE AT THE MONTH END TO GIVE US THE TREADS IN THE ECONOMY!

  13. i shall post in a second the full story the post is behaving like a live stream i trying to catch the press breif that PF are holding around 9

  14. indians doing business in zambia from the early 50″s started as traders but that is the stepping stone for something big .later on venturing into industries and other services.a journey begins but with one step.so sydney australia start your journey instead of being xenophobic.

  15. Country men , we need to build our economy on a solid foundation and not on individuals who pleases the foreign investors one good example is Ng’andu Magande . we need to build capacity amongst ourselves and drive the economy ourselves.we can’t afford to surrender our bread and butter into foreign hands 100% the way we have done ,they have messed us up and they are still messing us up.lets open our eyes ,we are a rich people and country . All we need is good leadership and not the currently chaps who do not know to what to do. vote wisely.

  16. casinozambia.com and zambiacasino.com

If you have ever thought about operating an online casino (or being an affilate of an online casino, where you direct customers to casino sites and earn lots of $$$ doing so), I have casino / poker names that you will want to own. I have the names parked right now, so visit, for example, casinozambia.com and zambiacasino.com You will find links to casinos, etc., and get an idea what your website might look like.

An affiliate is a person who sets up a website and directs traffic to a casino website, and you…

  17. I concur with Blood Diamond – These cheap foreigners are coming into our Country and get well to do jobs i. e Chief executive while they were Farmers in South AFRICA. They make sure that theer work conditions are far much better than a poor Zambian.its unheard of a general Manager GETTING PAID K100M When the lowest worker is paid k300,000.
Guys lets work up botswana have done it why not us.

Vote wisely – Thats why they were scared when the opposition was leading in 2006.
This Govt has just failed us – Lanour laws are dead

  18. I hope that the new president will push the zccm-ih’s partner giving dividend to the big zambian holding

for exemple, kansanshi mining have a benefit more 1,3 billion US$ for the last 3 years but give no dividend to zccm-ih !! not only one US $ !!

the cost of this mining is only 700 M US$, where is the money ??

why FQM use it for his project in other country ?

20% of kansanshi mining is for the national holding zccm-ih !

the new president has to push a new law for take the majority in all mining !!

the confident for the canadians, indians, chinese group is strong because they do what they want !!

the futur government has to take this problem in consideration

  19. the earnings that zccm-ih has not received is 800 M US $ around! almost as much as the government budget

FQM and the other groups are not real partner !
