Afrisports and Zambia midfielder Stophira Sunzu has moved  to French Ligue 2 club Chateauroux.

The teenage midfielder has signed a 1-year loan deal with the French Ligue 2 club until the end of the 2008/2009 season next May.

Afrisports confirmed the deal was completed yesterday and that Sunzu is already at Chateauroux preparing for his debut campaign in the French second tier club.

Sunzu joins Chateauroux after a successful trial spell at the club in July but the deal was delayed after Afrisports and the French club failed to agree on terms.

The 19-year-old midfielder has until his move to France been on loan to Zanaco from the Faz division 1 north club since the start of the season.

Sunzu was part of the Zambia Under-20 team at last years Fifa World Youth Championships in Canada after earlier making his international debut with the Under-23 team in their Olympic and All-Africa games qualifiers.

He will be the second Zambian and Afrisports player to join Chateauroux after striker Jacob Mulenga who has been at the French club since August 2004.

Meanwhile, Zambia Under-20 teams 10-day training camp to Australia has collapsed in unexplained circumstances.

The team was due to leave for Canberra on Wednesday but silence has engulfed the teams departure.

  1. Good news, pls make the best of dat opportunity Sunzu,

talent is one ting it’s de attitude that counts at the end of it

  2. But why did the trip to Australia fail. There is poor planning at FAZ even worse than the Teddy Mulonga executive.this information about Sunzu is good.the media should also be following these players’ plight after their moves instead of concentrating on the English league. No matter how small zambia is compared to English football we are stioll proud of our players as thats all we have got and we need to know how they are doing at their new clubs

I’m in France and I’m trying to follow every weekend stats and results of Zambian players in Europe and especially in France with Jacob Mulenga, Felix Katongo and now Sunzu, but also Chris Katongo in Arminia Bielefeld in Germany. Go Zambia your players have great skills they should be proud of themselves and sure of their strength.

  6. Well done to the young man but he should remember this is only the beginning, learn from Mbesuma’s time in Europe and try and from it.

His father was a long standing goalkeeper for Sharp Konkola Blades and can still be contacted in Chillis if anyone wants to make his nationality an issue now that he’s gotten an overseas contract. When he played for Afrisports,Zanaco,Blades and the U-20 non of this mattered, whats wrong with us Zambians kanshi na PHDS ( Pull him Down Syndrome) ?
