Zambians have continued to lay wreaths on tomb of President Mwanawasa at Embassy Park.
Rural Electrification Authority Chief Executive Officer Winfred Serenje led staff members in laying wreaths on Dr. Mwanawasa’s tomb.
And speaking after laying wreaths on the tomb, Mr. Serenje said the late president Dr. Mwanawasa played a pivotal role in supporting the Rural Electrification Authority.
He disclosed that over eight districts in Zambia have benefited from the projects initiated by the Rural Electrification Authority.
Mr. Serenje further said most electricity projects that started last year have since been completed while more projects have since been initiated.
He said among the projects that have since been completed are the electrification of Moomba and Kayosha in Chibombo District, Chipapa in Kafue District and the connection of electricity from Ngoma Basic School to Lunchinze in Sinazongwe.
Mr. Serenje said others include Undi area in Chipata and Mwanse in Lundazi district which are still being worked on.
It is very sad to note that this so called Rural Electrification is very bias in excuting their jobs. I think the people involed such as Mr. Serenje are very tribalistic. Can you imagine, in the Great North western, the only province with Econnomical musle in Zambia, has no proper Electricity, and here comes this Stupid Serenje bosting that his organisation is working.
To hell with your Rural Electrification, i guess your relatives can appreciate your efforts simply because you are doing the Job in your respective Districts and Provinces.

Stop being ignorant and please present facts to support your argument.
You are talking as if you have done anything for your village. Please shut it and let the govt do its job.
I think that the Rural Electrification is a very good thing.
Zambia needs to open up remote areas for development.
There is a lot of untapped resource in the outskirts of our country wich need to be accessed, and exploited in the interest of the development of our great nation. Electricity is key to economic activity.
With the limited resources at the moment you can not start such projects everywhere at once. I think that one step at a time is the way to go, and there may not be ‘best place’ to start from but a start is extremly cardinal.
Zambia needs to concentrate on electricity production and not distribution. We already dont have enough power to go round why distribute whats not there?
What a joke kwena guys so far zesco can`t even power the places which are connected so far and if they power the whole nation they will be load shading for atleast six days in every week.
Well done GRZ, but you scare me a million times, i mean more projects initiated by the Rural Electrification Authority, then the worst of the worst load shedding right? 2015 as your MDG then you are liers,I do not support you guys. But thanks again to GRZ, grandie papa and my cousines will have power in the village and will stop using diesel or paraffin lamps, instead will be using 100watts bulbs and will be using electrical stove and no more burning cow dang, and cold water from the fridge? this is cool.Lastly they will have clean water thru an electrical pump as long as they will have power. Please do not forget to send grandie and my cousines a time table for load shedding.
#4, #5 and #6,
Great observation guys, very objective analysis.
However, while what you have said stands undisputedly true, we must also remember that rural electrification means more than just switching on power to the rural areas. It involves contruction of infrastructure that will still be necessary when more power generation stations have been constructed.
It is also important to understand the overal program of rural electrification. Not every project involves connecting to the existing grid(s). It involves construction of mini genearting plants, some hydro and others thermal. these are not connected to the main grid. So we must look at a wider scope.
Just as much as we can understand that in any country its not easy to supply electricty, ZESCO you still have an obligation to explain to the zedian what have we benefited from the chines contract of KARIBA expansion? the country with so much water falls, in the northern ( musonda falls en others) southern( victoria) luapula( mambilima) for sure with all our degrees in physics we have failed to deliver. who is to blame? we have plenty of sun rays how about sollar? please MMD you boast of a good economy en justify on it for your salaries when there are so many problesms. the outside world who praise you are in for business. work en let zedian praise you. then you can have acces to the coffers
NO ONE SEEM TO CARE HERE. WE HAVE BEEN QUITE ABOUT UNZA. DR CHONGWE YOU SUPPORT MMD, EN YOU A DEGREE BUT YOUR SONS EN DOUGHTERS ARE DELAYED. CAN YOU COME OUT EN HELP. RB PLIZ WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT THE SITUATION? MWANAWASA DID HIS PART BY GIVING OUT K20 BILLION OUT OF 40 WHICH HE PROMISED. SO IF YOU ARE FOLLOWING HIS STEPS WHY ARE YOU SKIPPING OTHERS WHICH INVOLVE PAYING THE REST BUT YOU ARE APROVING SALARY INCREAMENTS FOR YOURSELVES. PROFESSOR LUNGWANGWA, THESE STUDENTS WANT TO BE LIKE YOU BUT YOU ARE CHANGING THEIR COUSE, IF YOU DONT KNOW WHERE THESE STUDENT S COME FROM LET ME TELL YOU I KNOW. IT WERE ONE LIVE TO SURVIVE. I CAN ASSURE YOU THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS WHO WILL RETURN WILL DROP.
UNZA needs to be commercialized.
Chibombo district is Mwanawasa’s home and back yard. What rural electrification?
You deleted my coments is this a Mwanawasa family blog?
NO 11, that is madness. By the way, what is the lattest on UNZA?
Yes Mr Serenje very well done, but what about load shedding? I think it will only get worse.
Thanx Brother Mwinilunga #1 for your wise coments on this the so called Mr Serenje Kalindula.
What is the Govt doing about Loading shedding in the country. I think it is really important to tackle the current electricity problem in the towns before embacking on new projects because they are surely bound to fail!
I SUPPORT MWINI. # 1. NW IS CONTRIBUTING ENORMOUSLY TO THE COFFERS OF THE COUNTRY AND PRIORITIZATION MUST BE IN THOSE AREAS WHICH ENHANCE GENERATION OF MORE CASH WHICH WILL BE RECHANNELED INTO OTHER AREAS OF ECONOMIC SUCCESS. MUFUMBWE-CHAVUMA RD HAS NEVER BEEN TARRED AND IT HAS BEEN MORE THAN 40 YRS OF SINGING ABOUT IT SINCE THE KAUNDA ERA.RAIL LINE FROM SOLWEZI TO THE GAS,OIL, GOLD-RICH ANGOLA WILL STILL REMAIN A PIPE DREAM AND YET OPENING UP THIS CORRIDOR WILL INCREASE ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES TO BENEFIT ZEDIANS THAN ANY OTHER CURRENT BORDER ACTIVITIES. MYOPIC WE SHOULD AVOID BEING!!!!
Chinese firm to invest $2 billion
A Chinese mining company plans to invest $2 billion in new mines which will be the biggest investment by a private Company in the history of Zambia.
Zhonghui Mining Industry Zambia Limited plans to open new mines in Luapula and North Western Provinces, complete with a hydropower station and water supply system.
Company President, Chalres Shi said the firm also plans to set up a new city in the North-Western Province.
He however appealed to government for a prospecting licence before embarking on the project.
Mr. Shi was speaking at the headquarters of Zhonghui International Mining Group in Beijing when he met Commerce Minister, Felix Mutati.
It is a pitty that there can be this level of tribalism and greed being echoed by some of the comments. Places like Mwase in Lundazi have never had anything from the government and yet they have always been power-houses in terms of agricultural production and gemstones. What is wrong with taking electricity there? Am sure the Rural Electrification Authority has a timetable and when time comes, they will go to NW province. Besides Solwezi is already booming; Kasempa which has little strategic importance has a perfectly tarred road and there is a contractor working on the road as u go to Kabompo
Aya mano ya ma politics and job protection/seeking,
what rural electrification is SERENJE talking about, eeh?? or is it RURAL AND URBAN LOAD SHADING PROGRAMME? Nonscence
#18 Anonymous. When are you gonna stop beating a horse? Or do you not know when to stop beating a horse? When the horse dies you stop beating it because it can no longer gallop. Its dead. MMD/UNIP is dead. Stop campaigning for them. As long as there will be a high demand for copper and other mineral (and zambia continues to sleep) by china and india they will even start building pyramids in Zambia.
Electricity for all parts of Zambia is a good and laudable plan. However how many costly quangos will it take for the government to achieve other essential developmental objectives?
THESE GUYS ARE JUST WORSTING THE GOVENMENT’S MONEY, OTHERWISE THEY ARE DOING NOTHING. FOOLS SHAME UPN THEM
Honestly speaking I think in Zambia we can have a lot of things if we had electricity in all places in the rural area. Iwouldlike to know where this office is. Iwould like to make a personal visit to this office. Please let me have the directions or call my personal number 0978316346. Iam a Rural Developer by profession. THE PEOPLE’S SUFFERING BY THE YEAR 2013 MUST BE A THING OF THE PAST. Food security, Lighting in schools, INTERNET CONNECTIVITY in the rural area is not impossible. Mr Serenje I need to come to your office.
