Three teachers at St Charles Lwanga Secondary School in Mansa have been arrested in connection with grade 12 examination paper leakages in Luapula province.
The named teachers who are also Catholic Priests were arrested over the weekend.
The teachers and some four pupils who were picked for being in possession of original copies of pre-written grade 12 examination papers would appear in court on 5th December after they pleaded not guilty at Mansa Magistrates court today.
They have been charged for an offence of unauthorized possession of examination papers or information contrary to Section 19 Sub-section 1 Chapter 137 of the laws of Zambia.
Over the past two weeks over 40 grade twelve pupils from different secondary schools in Luapula province have been arrested for being in possession of pre-written 2008 examination papers.
The pupils were arrested at St Charles Lwanga, St Clements, Kabunda Girls, Mansa High and Mansa Skills Secondary Schools while others were caught in Mwense and Kawambwa Districts.
The pupils were in possession of originals and photocopies of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Religious Education, Biology, Literature in English and Geography papers.
Meanwhile, all the arrested pupils have been banished from writing the examination for two years in accordance with the Guidelines for the Administration and Management of Examinations in Zambia.
Provincial Education Officer Florence Kanchebele said if found guilty the teachers would be dismissed from the teaching service indefinitely.
And Police in Mpika have arrested three Grade 12 pupils of Chitulika High School for alleged examination malpractices.
Northern Province police commanding officer Charles Lungu confirmed the arrests of the pupils to ZANIS in Kasama today.
Mr. Lungu said the three pupils, who are all males, were picked up last Friday, after they were caught with a leaked Chemistry examination paper.
He said police were still investigating the matter in order to establish the source of the leakage.
Mr. Lungu further said the pupils would appear in court soon for being in possession of foreign materials in an examination room.
Recently, five pupils from Kasama Boys’ High School were picked by police for possessing leaked examination materials.
The pupils were found with multiple choice answers during a Geography paper two (2) examination, which does not have multiple choice questions.
Provincial Education Officer Selisho Chanda, who had confirmed the incident, also said disciplinary action was taken against the investigators of the same examination.
Meanwhile, concerned Kasama residents have appealed to Ministry of Education to dismiss teachers who are involved in examination malpractices because they were compromising the standard of education in the country.

The question i would want to ask is where did the teachers get these papers coz the examinations papers are suppose to be thoroughly guided by police officers or the like. strick measures need to be put in place to make sure that teachers and pupils do not have any means whatsoever of getting hold of these papers

What a shame. I feel ECZ needs to thouroughly review the process of exam delivery. This has dented the credibilty of our exam process and is unfair for the many hardworking pupils who end up being denied places at institutions of higher learning due to bogus 6 points from these unscroupolous individuals. The priests in question should be reprimanded to the greatest extent of the law!

Can the police leave priests alon am sure it was just a mistake that priests were found in possetion of papers. Why did they fail to arrest the driver who was found with ballot papers at the airport. The ballot papers issue was more important to every Zambian than leakages issue. Am sure the pupils are just following their father’s foot steps (Bwezani) to do all what it takes just to win. ala bane yashani…..
I lost faith in these exams when, in 1996 after writing a bio paper, a friend boasted that he had the paper before hand. And he proved it by showing us his copy when we reached his place …. i was devastated.
Conlusion G12 exams are a sham.
Recommendation: the same security attached to ballot papers should be accrue to Exam papers as well.
PS. the Minister responsible should be taken to task and a resignation should follow if they cant arrest the situation.

The neglect in condemning atrocities perpetrated by RCC and yet condemning GRZ? Bwalya is under oath to serve the RCC at whatever cost. He will never raise a finger to condemn the doings of his fellow priests. This information will be part of the court submissions. Chiluba introduced all forms of corruption in Zambia including leakages. Both Grade 9 and 12 exams are a sham everywhere in Zambia. And the priests are the worst corrupt but covered by the thin veil of serving God.
Recommendation: All colleges, including UNZA, should introduce pre selection examinations where all applicants for admission are subjected to examinations before being accepted. Currently, this system is applied in the School of Natural Sciences at UNZA although RB and his family and friends still bypass this exam.

I think if at all the priests were found with these examination papers it could be that they had confiscated it from pupils who were in possession of the papers but for the pupils sake they dicided not to tell the police as the pupil would have lost his life by getting into prison.It could have been having only one choice the lesser evil or the better good.

Passover is 7 days so it covers both death and ressurection . Easter is bogus and useless and only serves to please men not Yahweh.What these catholics don’t understand of passover’s importance is that passover was teh fulfilment of the prophecy Isaiah 53. He died on passover for a reason as that of a blood sacrifice to save mankind. So if you ignore passover you not only ignore yeshua’s word but also yahweh’s word.
