PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda has observed that countries that imported fertilizer early enough were able to procure it at a cheaper price. The president said the price of the commodity had risen by the time government had procured it.
He was speaking on a live radio program on radio Breeze FM in Chipata district.
Mr. Banda stated that it was not possible for all farmers to benefit the commodity at a subsidized price saying the population of Zambia was too high.
Mr. Banda explained that people would be required to buy fertilizer at the common market if the subsidized fertilizer was not adequate because the population of the country was high.
He also appealed to farmers not to sell subsidized farming inputs for monetary gains. He stated that the program was intended to improve food security in the country by assisting farmers to produce more food.
President Banda also noted that there was no need to regulate the media if they could operate responsibly.
Speaking on radio Breeze FM in Chipata district, Mr Banda said the media did not need to be regulated if they could write and publish the truth all the time.
He expressed concern that some sectors of the media did not cover the October elections very well. President Banda stated that the media required to be factual and objective in their coverage, in a manner which he referred to as professional.
President Banda said the K10 Billion required for the completion of the Chipata/Mchinji railway line may be considered in next year’s budget.
Mr. Banda stated that it was the intention of government to see the completion of the rail line, which was intended to boost economic activities in the province.
He stated that he was aware that people in the province were anxious to see the project completed.

THERE IS YOUR PRESIDENT WHO YOU ARE SWEATING TO DEFEND DAY IN AND OUT. IS THIS WHAT HE SAID DURING THE CAMPAIGNS. GUYS THIS MAN, IF HE WAS A VILLAGER WAS GOING TO HAVE A PROGRAMME LIKE, IN THE MORNING YOU PUT HIM ON A REED MAT TO GET DRIED BY THE SUN AND COME EVENING YOU TAKE OFF THE MAT AND LAY HIM ON A BED. HE IS OUT OF IDEAS AND NOT FIT TO BE LEADING. WORST OFF, HE IS PROBLEM LEFT BY ANOTHER PROBLEM LPM. A PROBLEM RESULTING FROM A PROBLEM IS DIFFICULT TO SOLVE. HIS ADVISORS ARE SWEATING TO PUT HIM INTO THE LEADERSHIP GROOVE.
This is sad. He makes this revelation after having lied to the electorate and promised that fertilizer will be 50 pin. He should be branded the liar that he is. People should be reminded of his dishonesty and treachery next election cycle. I hope someone has him on tape uttering the nonesense that he did during the last electection campaign. One again Zambians have gotten a “Raw Deal” or is it “Rotten Deal”?

This game is called politricks……cheap ones indeeed. Why not give people what you promised them?
Banda is unbelievable. he is a dramatist. never in a real world. the way he speaks as though he was not the one who talked of cheap fert. its like it was Sata or HH or Miyanda now he is trying to prove them wrong because they were not in govt and did not know that fert was not enough. this man was VP in charge of Food reserve. he knew. or was he just a shadow VP. what was he doing that he is so ignorant. We now question his credentials or education papers nivogula chabe or vopasiwa kubazungu in those days.
its embrassing to now listen to this man. at least LPM was sick but uyu is very normal. so no excuse. its just tha IQ is very low. You are doing a great job here. Big ups. There’s never been a party like CDP. For us young Zambians that is the only party which cares for the our future.
Cimoneni ifmilomo!!!!
dear man,
I would like contest the CDP Presidency.
Even though it may be a bit a problem because am just 36 years. my qualification will be put on this colum any time.
At times, people should just see the face and then have informed clues what is at stake! We need to do away with all these politicians who are still utilizing early stone age brains! He seems to have a rotten brain, including advisers!
What’s so difficult, when one can allocate money to reopen Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia & start producing fertilizers? This shows how animalistic MMD are, as they have plundered the resources of Zambia! It’s good that I have never supported these chaps even when FTJ & colleagues came to power! This is a Movement of Massive Distraction(MMD) and why should we continue on that path surely?
” Mr. Banda stated that it was not possible for all farmers to benefit the commodity at a subsidized price saying the population of Zambia was too high. “:o :((
What a MORON! He is blaming the failure of his and the previous MMD governments on the people?? Zambia has a very modest 12 million people – it also has 80% of arable land unused, and 97% of agriculture depends on rainfall, but the president thinks there are ‘too many people’.
The problem is the MMD and their slaving dependence on their IMF masters ideology of neoliberalism.
Neoliberalism is as DEAD as the people are going to be unless there is an immediate change in economic policy.
#67.MrK
Don’t forget that this Man has an Ancient Mind. When people are growing up, you expect them to have wisdom, but this is just INSANITY at its best!
I can’t believe what is coming out of RB’s mouth!!! A high population has prevented Zambian farmers from enjoying subsidized fertilizer????? 12 Million people is nothing close to having a large population!! Why do you think we belong to regional groupings like COMESA??? It is because we lack the necessary numbers in population to stimulate growth in our economies!!!!
I feel extremely dissapointed and short-changed by this leadership and not that I voted for them, but I had hoped to see RB putting his money where his mouth is. Instead, we only see him consuming nyamasoya and getting heavier by the day.
What does he stand for???? What are his policies????
Hundreds of miners have lost their jobs, mealie meal prices are sky high, fuel prices are sky high and yet even bloggers on LT try and justify a salary increment for public office holders (which is beyond my comprehension, when you consider that in countries like the US, the GM CEO has agreed to cut his salary to $1 a year in order to save jobs in the auto industry!!!!). Its only in a country like Zambia where we can tell ourselves that the increment is inconsequential when infact it is not!!!!
Where is the leadership in this administration??? Who is in charge????
Basically everyone who is not growing their own food is going to have a very hard time even surviving. Not only miners and their dependents who have lost their jobs are going to have a hard time buying food. Anyone is going to have a hard time buying anything, because the Kwacha is going to depreciate because the last economic lifeblood is going to be sucked out of the economy when those mines close. Anything imported and paid for in US dollars is going to be priced beyond anyone’s means to buy, because of massive dollar inflation. Get out of US dollars now and hold euros or if you can get hold of it, gold coins. But at one point, food is going to be much more valuable.
The Govt needs to know that there is a word called planning, they should have known better that prices can adjust whether up or low & they needed to have accomodated those risks when making those promises, but i guess they know very well that a majority of Zambians are sleeping, do not know their civic rights, would not hold the Govt accountable & they can promise them anything even if does not exist on this earth.Zambians it’s time to wake up and start exercising our civic rights. We need to advocate for a law that will ban politicians from giving handouts, making false promises and providing instant development to hoodwink voters during campaign time,so that leaders are elected on merit.
68. Geologist, Canada,
” Don’t forget that this Man has an Ancient Mind. When people are growing up, you expect them to have wisdom, but this is just INSANITY at its best! ”
Well he is old, but he isn’t ancient. However for someone coming out of UNIP, I would have at least hoped he hadn’t bought in to the elitist ideology of neoliberalism, or population control.
There has to be an immediate turning away of all thoughts of ‘free markets’, ‘privatisation’, ‘deregulation’, ‘comparative advantages’.
The mines have to be renationalized, there has to be an immediate securing of the food supply, and there has to be REAL development this time around – agriculture, infrastructure…
72. New Zambia,
” The Govt needs to know that there is a word called planning, ”
That is the problems with neoliberalism worldwide, they get into government to blanketly reduce the size of government, because ‘government is the problem’ and ‘the market will provide/correct itself/step in’. All this has brought is massive ‘market failure’, and a bunch of clueless politicians who do not know what to do if things go wrong.
” Zambians it’s time to wake up and start exercising our civic rights. ”
Well there are demonstrations planned. It is time to demand a drastic shift in economic policy. Old UNIP would be better than this bunch.
#64 Even if Chirwa vehemently denies it- I have heard that he’s somewhat part of CDP. My well placed friend in London tells me Chirwa goes for sinister meeting @ certain times of the night. CDP comprises mostly of lawyers in Zambia, some catholic bishops under ZEC. You in the towns may not know this but also they have paid some young UNZA and CBU students to start campaigning and recuriting members in the rural. Ask some Choma residents. Don’t ask where I got this infobut these CDP characters are very crafty.
70. Twachula Pafula,
” Where is the leadership in this administration??? Who is in charge???? ”
Or the question is – what is the problem? The problem is this damned ideology of neoliberalism. Dependence on ‘donor aid’ instead of taxes from the mines. Selling the mines for the sake of selling them. Hoping foreigners will come to Zambia and develop it instead of Zambians. Cutting back on government spending on healthcare and education. Importing maize instead of developing agriculture.
It is all part of the same problem. Neoliberalism has kept the Zambiane economy a neocolonial economy depending on the export of raw materials and getting ‘donor aid’ in return.
I think the chisamba MP is indeed 100% right about his analysis of RB. What kind of a parent would simply say we have no bread this morning because i forgot to buy last evening , and then do nothing. Fine mr President , the poor farmers need fertilizer what are you doing about IT? Please ACT, AND ACT NOW.
MrK you are spot on. As much as people may be against Sata and his planned demonstrations, he has been indirectly advocating that citizens demand for accountability from the Government and yet, people try to misconstrue this as kaponya behaviour, it is not. The Government owes it to the people to provide services and a decent living, and in the absence of such services, they owe them an explanation, at the very least, but most certainly action!!!
#74.MrK
I agree with you, and this is where Ancient comes in. He’s more Ancient than UNIP! Kaunda belt some infrastructure which was plundered by MMD. So, considering that this Man was being groomed by KK, then you would expect to have some changes, but not at all!!
And now the creaks are going to show. What happens when donor aid dries up? What happens when donor aid is no longer worth the paper it is written on, because it comes in US dollars? The Federal Reserve in just cut interest rates to near ZERO. That means MASSIVE inflation. That means a situation like Japan’s in the 1990s, except Japan always had a manufacturing base and it’s customers weren’t just as broke as they were – for a while.
The problem is the ideology.
79. Geologist, Canada,
” I agree with you, and this is where Ancient comes in. He’s more Ancient than UNIP! ”
Before I start venting about neoliberalism again, as a geologist, what do you think about local councils getting into mining? They would increase their budgets and keep the money local.
75. Intel from Washington.
So according to your logic, because the CDP supposedly partly comprises of lawyers, catholic bishops and CBU and UNZA students (involved in recruitment), then the CDP is crafty? I find that logic hard to swallow. Because Chirwa is “supposedly” attending CDP meetings they are somehow sinister? We really need to undo our brainwashing. What happened to judging anything by merit. The party has not even launched itself and you are using the word “sinister and crafty in the same paragraph as the CDP. Let us all wait and see what transpires and whether your assertions are valid.
RB is not very suitable but he is better than us having SATA anyway.
It is a tragedy to lose a president like Mwanawasa let us face it and get someone who had retired from politics to replace him. The job is not a garbage collection role. You need to be on top of things and the management of key resources. It would have been worse with Sata because he would have spent all his three years blaming the dead person. At least, on a positive note, RB has not blamed LPM at all in everything he has said or done. Maturity is there but of copurse age catches up with anyone. All of us will one day be wrinkled and irrelevant.
President Shrek is always complaining about running the country as though there`s anybody that forced him to get to plot one. This guy isn`t a natural leader but a follower. When LPM was in a coma,Shrek was the same one that was publicly crying instead of showing some strength and leadership. Now that we`re faced with this global economic crisis,he`s busy complaining instead of inspiring the nation to tackle this meltdown head on.
We need a vibrant leader who`s got a vision for the nation and not such recycled and tired politician.
The unpopular govt has no money for subsidised fertiliser for Zambians but the same govt has money for increments for politicians. This is a joke and a kick in the bum of villagers for their wasted votes on sleeping govt of Banda. This govt has to be very careful with pipo they are ruling. Arch and riots will be the talk of the day in Zambia. An hungry man is an angry man. Food has always been a source of violence in many countries through out the world. These politicians the best thing they can do is to cancel their increments for now to show the zambians that they understand the global financial crisis. Failure to do so they are in the rough ride.
78. Twachula Pafula,
” The Government owes it to the people to provide services and a decent living, and in the absence of such services, they owe them an explanation, at the very least, but most certainly action!!! ”
They had better be capable of the action necessary – and I mean ideologically, because they still have some of the tools to make things happen.
But they have to get some good advice and quickly too.
We need to secure the food supply for at least a year and create works projects to develop the country. We need to create on farm irrigation and get far more land under cultivation. We need to get the National Service and chiefs on board and mobilize the people to create farms and roads, ponds, swales for storing water in the soil for year around irrigation.
We need to create a class of medium sized organic farmers from the millions of subsistence farmers. 100 hectares per farm (present subsistence farmers work 2-3 hectares).
Enough to produce 100 tonnes of maize on half of it, leaving the other half for other staple crops and other farm enterprises like dairy, vegetables, meat production, poultry and agroferestry and greenhouses, which can be run by the farmers offspring, creating jobs and skills for generations to come.
This is how it works out. 50 hectares can yield 2 tonnes of maize per hectare, and maize is sold for $200 per hectare. That is (50 x 2 x $200 =) $20,000 per harvest. If half of that is spent on costs, that gives a farmer an income per harvest of $10,000.
#81.MrK
Spot on & a good idea you’ve put across. Right now if you go to Zambia & visit the Geological Survey, you’ll find that they only have less than 20 geologists the whole country, yet these same MMD chaps have been misleading you of opening up Oilfields. Why just have geologists in Lusaka? If Councils are well funded and have geologists & mining engineers, then you would expect them to do small scale mining of gemstones which would be processed & cut-polished at a Lapidary established in Ndola to add value before being exported. This would in a long run enable these councils to be self sufficient a lot of money would be raised to pay all its employees.
bwesha $ mambala!
it’s not zimbabwe where u were born
Contd from 89.
Most of the things need to be decentralized if we are to make progress in Zambia. Geologists are in Lusaka when they are supposed to produce maps in areas of Zambia. As things are now, about 40% of the Country hasn’t been mapped and we don’t know what resources are there, including myself who’s a geologist. Remember we had Co-operatives which operated independently & we had food, but all those are gone due to neolibralization!!
#88.MrK
You seem to be a well educated farmer who needs to plant even winter maize through irrigation & rotating of crops so that we reduce on the use of fertilizers! From my scant knowledge of Agriculture subject I did in Grade 8 to 9, if you plant legumes then they’ll fix nitrogen which will be needed by maize!
there is no place in the world where they do commercial farming without fertiliser!
91. Geologist, Canada,
” Most of the things need to be decentralized if we are to make progress in Zambia. Geologists are in Lusaka when they are supposed to produce maps in areas of Zambia. ”
Have you had chance visit my Manifesto (maravi.blogspot.com listed under My Take – it is a work in progress, but can act as a think piece for everyone)? I would like to see 50% of national revenues paid out directly by the ZRA to local councils, say about 350 nationwide with with 30,000 people each, and put basic services (education, healthcare, policing and utilities) in their hands. That would spread out the national budget over the country instead of concentrating money in the ministries.
” As things are now, about 40% of the Country hasn’t been mapped ”
That surprises me in a country so dependent on minerals. At least that is a small mercy, because the MMD have not been able to sell that off, excuse me, privatize it.
93. input
” there is no place in the world where they do commercial farming without fertiliser! ”
You make a good point, but there is no need to only rely on chemical fertilizer nationally. As an emergency measure ramping up chem fertilizer and liming would work because it would lower prices and get farmers to work more land now.
But in the long term, it makes farmers dependent on the corporation that delivers it to them. The company goes belly up, it has problems with operations, bad management, anything, and farmers don’t get fertilizer, crop production goes down, food prices go up and people starve again.
#95.MrK
I will try to visit the site you are stating. Oh yeah! When Zambia started mining copper, all exploration for other resources was abandoned & this is why we now have Lumwana Mine even in an area where people thought you wouldn’t find copper. It’s a very sad state of affairs to see how these politicians behave & run our country!
We need farm units/cooperatives that are 100% selfsufficient. Building redundancy into complex systems is extremely important.
Please check out Youtube /com and type in: organic fertilizer
There is a lot that can be done with blood meal (nitrogen), bone meal (phosphorus) and charcoal (potassium) (the infamous N-P-K).

The Zambian farmers should not suffer the conequenses of Zambian government adopting a inefficient system of purchasing fertiliser. The government is increassingly becoming a clientelistic type with more interest in revenue collection and little on the provision of public goods and services.
Its a pitty that Zambians can be manipulated so easily during elections. The reallity is now coming out. Fertilizer that RB promised to sell @ K50,000 is now expensive, honestly, what was he thinking Zambians are like when he made that promise?

# 107 Girly. How are you my dear? Did you have a peaceful rest?
You guys are blaming the financial crisis in the west for failure to hold on to your harvest. What type of nonsense is that? Soon Mugabe will be doing the same in Zimbambwe. When the govt fails, the prudent thing to do is move over or wait for their term to end. Let the people with solutions take over. Don’t lie about your ineptitude. Is IMF and the World Bank not loaning Zambia any more? Banda should acknowledge that he does not know what he is doing. He promise Fertilizer. People must demand what they were promised. If no fertilizer this time, be assured of worse conditions and poor harvest next year. All because of MMD and RB.
the story has now changed :-@,before elections he was quick announcing reduction of fertilizer prices. After discovering that the so-called reduced fertilizer is non existance in the shops he now twists the story ati not adequate.Muza vuta imwe mudala

Zambia, the real Africa. meaning of politics, poli – many, ticks – blood sucking animals, These champs in Government are just many blood sucking animals.
These guys in MMD are jokers. :((
Banda govt two major sectors already in a crisis, agric and mining. Give him the all term, Zambia will be at par with Zimbabwe. And the blame will be on financial crisis in America and Europe. Honestly, no relationship. Copper prices are not as bad as we have been made to believe. Corn was sold without considering that we need it too. NCZ is closed with preference to importation of the same stuff. If UNIP, ANC can crumble, what about MMD? Wait, give it a year.

Goodmorning Matworld-Nice guy!,Baby C,Chewe,Racheal,Babie,Ba Moze, Girly,Sarah jones, Sweet thang, Ba zambia, FMC and the rest. This government is very hopeless. Im tired of them and i dont know what to do with them anymore. if you are a business person like me, obvious you know what im talking about. Its terrible.
RB is right to say that it is not possible to have every farmer benefit from the fertilizer support scheme. The country has many other needs to attend to, and a good leader will always create an intelligent balance.
The plan Zambia had before the crisis which has seen copper prices drop from $9,000 to $3,000+ can not stand in the same fashion it did. This does not need any slight common sense, but merely being alive.
To just say that we were promissed before elections that things will improve so they must, is being like a young lady whom a young man has promissed to marry. But even after the youngman dies the lady says I want him to still marry me because he promissed me.

Goodmorning Rashid and Martworld!!! ;;)
Ba RB When you were making those political promises that the price of fertilizer was 50pin surely didnt you know the populas of the farming community?
This is what you get out of false promises they boomerang. we wont accept that issue just deliver on your fake promises.
Thats why in the urban areas you lost. People in urban Zambia are very clever and you cant deceive them.So the poor villagers that gave you a vote are waiting for the imputs its rainy season.
Good luck mr president hope you resign give up soon.
What a lie is he talking about now when he reduced the prices of fertilizer he didn’t realize that it was expensive, now that is when he has seen anyway villagers there no way out you have to live with it for the next 3 years.
Girly, Hi hope you had a luvly night. You guys what is wrong with this chap called Fine? this government saw all these problems coming and they were well advised by Magande but just because they wanted to win the elections, decided to ignore everything. Its everyone who is a farmer in Zambia and i consider this to be a lame excuse. Fine, we know that you can write good english but its not the english we are looking for but the truth about this confused government.
But where was government when they should have been buying fertiliser in advance?
If Brown made such a statement he wouldn`t survive a day in office!
Thank God RB you are president of a certain village called Zambia where villagers do not mind what you say-learned or not!
Ubupuba bwaifi kuli ba president sure? The muppet was VP, surely he should have known the population of Zambia. He was going round promising bakamushi ertiliser for 50pin. Villagers, and I mean all those Zambians who voted for MMD-You will die! Just what you wanted.
Can this man count guys?
Suddenly RB’s promises seem to have gone away…
And what a time to bring excuses…The GLOBAL meltdown :-w:-@:-@
What next…Global warming…?
PRESIDENT RB..We don’t to hear excuses , we want to know what your govt is going to do about it!
one zambia one nation **==**==**==**==**==**==**==
This chap called banda is a crook and liar. When Satat told you that this man brought down Namboard you did not believe him now you give him zambia and already the kwacha is at 5,300 the highest it has ever been. Kunda is justifying spending 400billion on a useless NCC instead of putting this into supporting agriculture what nonsense is this? wake up zambia these chaps are screwing you.
Why then did he tell the people of zambia that fertilizer will be available roughly K70,000 when in the actual sense he knew very well that satisfy the every farmer.
He is there to provide answers to the many cries of us zambians. Wake up RB and start working as a leader – president
#118. Fine Ulimpombo.
Wenkumbawe, All you will be doing the next few months is attend funerals for your relatives because they are all going to die of hunger.
That village called Zambia has a headman called RB who doesn`t know the population of the village he leads. Nice one!
#126. Rashid Jones,
It is like you are not in touch with what is happening in Zambia.
During the campaign period Magande was interviewed concerning the global and its impact. Magande stated in crystal clear terms that there would be no any significant impact on the Zambian economy. So what advice are you implying.
Don’t make a hero, though we appreciate his contribution, we know that he came at a good time; a time when copper prices sky-rocketed and the economy was on the pick. Magande was as fortunate as the Indians at KCM, so worshiping him is a misplaced perception though i cannot stop you if you want to.
Lundani Nyama Soya is a disgrace to Zambians. The chap is completely confused.
hellooo people! 😡
Simple laws of supply and demand a grade 9 understands wel. you can’t begin to procure fertilizers three months into the season of course the price rises, u should have been procuring as you were making the promises. Afterall even if you’d lost it was still for the benefit of the people. And what’s this Zambia’s population is high? u should say properly firstly relate it to what you mean because on standard population density in Zambia is 16p/p/Sqm which is no# 242/250.
Talk about farmers not general population because farmers are the ones involved in receiving fertilizers.
=))
When campagning why did he not the facts or statistics about how many Zambians are farmers? Why should he now want to move away from his promises prior to elections. People will die come next year becoz only a few farmers will plant their fields with fertilizer costing over K280,000. Can a peasant farmer in rural zambia afford that?
Iwe Fine,Do you know that Magande was against the idea of reducing the prices of fertilizer from k200,000 to k50,000? im not worshiping Magande but what im trying to tell you is that Banda ignored alot of things just to be elected and now those useless promises are now hauntint him. why should this global crisis affect Mealie meal prices and not other essential goods?
#132. Anonymous
If you are desiring that all your relatives die so that you can attended their funerals, I can’t stop you though I would advise you that there is no need to wish your family and relatives to die.
Even if you hate your family and relatives just pray for them not to die. May be you like funerals.
I want you to know that my relatives will live and not die. After you have attended the funerals of all your relatives, come back and ask me if my relatives are still living and I will tell you they are alive and kicking.
There is no need of failing to think and becoming emotional when dealing with national issues. Differing in opinion does not mean that anyone wishes Zambia ill
#140 You have a big mouth. Typical of card carrying members. :-@
#139. Rashid Jones,
It is very sad if you see only mealie meal being affected in prices.
I am shocked that out of everything on the market you have only observed the rise in price for mealie meal.
This is what makes me wonder whether people on this discussion board discuss in context or not because some of the statements makes me feel that most guys here want to talk because they have little to do.
For the wages of sin is death. Voting for RB was a great sin. For everybody knew that the man knows not a single thing, yet he came with the forbidden fruit of fertilizer are K50pin and Adam and Eve fell for it. God is really punishing us with RB. Sata might be a cobra as he is but at list we know that he is a snake. But RB is just a devil.
RB the >:)
Fine what do you do for your living? I can only see bamwine in you.
Typical African. All is well with me so why bother! You are a scumbag!
#140 fine government should subsidize the fertilizer in a way that people will benefit as much as possible.
fertilizer is K280,000 that’s ridiculous it doesn’t have to come down to K50,000 but at least they can find a figure which works and were more people can benefit. Anyway they brought this upon themselves.
FARMING IS THE SOLUTION TO CURRENT FOOD PRICES SO THE RB GOVT NEED TO SATISFY THE DEMAND
I guess now we realise that better the devil u know..(Sata) than the one u dont know..(RB) >:)
#145. Anonymous,
It is not the insulting you do to the government that will solve thge problems of our nation.
It is not demos you desire that will solve Zambia’s problems.
It is not the politicians you desire that will develop this country; some of them have been in politics since 1964, when most of us were not born and yet they claim they are the saviour. They ruined the economy in the past 10 years and yet they shift language and deceive the simple.
Let me tell you that, govt may not be right in everything but that does not mean we will criticise everything.
The FSP was meant not for all farmers but a section of them, and you do not improve everything at once.
:-wDuring Presidential bye-elections we were told that fertilizer will be 50 pin and Zambia will not be affected by the global economic recession. Now the situation is gloomy. The subsidized fertilizer is nowhere to be seen, and 800 KCM ,500 Chambeshi Metals,500 Prosec LCM site, 200 JVC Nkana and 107 JVC Mufulira employees will be either retrenched or put on recess owing to the suspension of operations. Where are we heading to? The retrenchees are likely not have opportunities of be Peasant Farmers bcoz fert yadula. Thus they are likely to face loss of income, hunger, abject poverty and subsequent death. Mwebuteko, suspend the NCC and channel the billions of Kwachas to our ailing economy:-w
Please young men and women have respect to your father/grand father. What you are talking is not good. The President has been democratically elected. If you want change, wait for 2011. Mulechindica abakalamba ngamukwate amapalo. Fine things are not ok but remember he is not alone in the system. He has advisors. Perhaps they are not advising him properly. Otherwise to me is a fine old man and still learning. Wait he is still observing. God have mercy upon diarear mouthed people. You do not know what you are talking about. It is not easy to please everyone.
i AM TIRED OF THIS. WHY CANT WE BE THE ONES INVESTING IN MANUFACTURING FERTILIZER SO WE CAN BE THE ONES SELLING TO OTHER COUNTRIES AND A HIGH PRICE. tHIS IS SOMETHING I DONT UNDER STAND. SHUT UP AND START ATTRACTING INVESTORS THAT WILL HELP WITH THINGS WE NEED AND NJOT JUST DIG OUR MINES AND SPEND MONEY ELSE WHERE.
SHUT UP!
Most NGO’s sponsored by USAID will be affected by the financial meltdown in the USA. SHREK has no solutions for this country except for complaints. The MMD should have found someone else to go for the presidency so that SHREK can continue sleeping & defiling his grand children. He suffers from Trypanosomiasis it appears.
#151.Mama E,I agree with you that we should have respect for the big man,but how can we respect him when he deprieved pipo of Zed during his campeigns.Do you know why pipo use titles like Ka chiluba, becoz kalikuluku,ci Sata becoz caume,ba Banda coz babufi, magande coz he is a smart guy.So we respected ba Banda, but he has disappointed us.mind you respect is earned not bought.Point of correction he was not voted democratically, but he rigged the election results,or he took advantange of the ignorance of the pipo from rural areas.

Fine, I think you are not what your name says. What is that Lundani has done for you to support his government so much? Look here fine, Banda is completely blank, he doesnt know what tomorrow hold for his. He is just governing like kwalola mwera eko fyalora

This thing of saying we are too many will not be accepted because some of us are even planning of having babies just like you who is still producing. Be a man learn to face the challenges as a man leading a great nation. what is 10 million people? Do you know the population of Cairo? its about 10 million if not more yet those fellow Africans are managing Mr President.

#156. Rashid Jones
You will realise that the current global economic crisis started in the west, primarily in the US.
The western govts are now busy trying to address the effects of the same.
Would you say that G. Bush and other western leaders are blank because they should have seen this problem before it happen, and so they should not have been reactive as we are seing, if you do see also?
Everyone wants this government to work, but the moment you say that RB is blank you are not being realistic, i.e. if you have some level of analysis.
There is always something to build on, other than to say ‘RB is blank’.
Rashid Jones, I am cool. Just worried about our Presdo who is complaining that we are too many. I think he should go and become a village headman in katete, so that he can manage a smaller population.
I think Baby C walanda bwino, Fine is heartless. I think its because his relatives are part of this useless government.
No. 167 Matworld-Nice guy, thanks bro. Is the Zambian President online? maybe he can benefit from the free advice on LT.
The Blackman’s Child, Banda is confused. Fine, stop camparing Zambia to developed nations like USA. Nothing has changed in terms of the economy of Zambia. Zambia is still getting the support from donor countries as before and we are still operating under the same budget, so why should things change so drastically. By the way do you know that its only the kwacha which is depreciating so much as compared to the other currencies? look @ the Botswana Pula or the RSA rand.
These are the results of poor campainging strategy. We told this old man to tell the masses the trut but he refused and followed advice from Ben and other related embiciles. wafwa walemana
#FINE## Why are you so concerned about demos….are people of Zambia demostrating for the first time?? Didnt they demostrate in Kaunda, in Chiluba and in LPM?? Those demos were not a danger to these presidents heey? Chiluba dropped his third term bid coz of us UNZA students that time..we demostrated for three consecutive days at the expense of our studies. We gave chiluba 24hrs in which to drop his third term bid. Chiluba yielded. Do you think chiluba would have dropped his third term bid without demos?? This shows how a great shushu you are. U have been planted there to protect the dull creacture. You are so senselesly defensive of RB ..why? :-w:-w
IT LOOKS AS THOUGH MOST OF THE ARMCHAIR CRITICS ON THIS BLOGG ARE NOT ANALYTICAL ABOUT THE ISSUES OF FERTILISER AND RISING COST OF LIVING IN ZAMBIA. MOST OF YOU ARE SO SHALLOW IN YOUR ANALYSIS.RASHID AND OTHERS ..YOU ARE SO SHALLOW! FINE YOU HAVE ANALYTICALMIND.COPPER THE MAIN REVENUE EARNER FOR ZAMBIA HAS GOT LOWER PRICES ON THE WORLD MARKET.WHAT IS THE RESULT TO THE VALUE OF KWACHA? WHAT IS THE IMPLICATION TO RESOURCE ALLOCATIONS TO OTHER SECTOR WHICH REQUIRE THE SAME RESOURCE? RB PROMISED TO INCREASE GOVT SUBSIDE SO AS TO BRING PRICE OF FERTILSER LOWER.IN THE EVENT THAT COPPER REVENUES HAVE STARTED PLUMETING, WHAT DO YOU DO YOU ARMCHAIR CRITICS?DONT EXPOSE YOUR IGNORANCE!
#172. Rashid Jones
Are you telling me that the logic for which i have brought in those countries is too hard for you.
I thought that was the simplest way i can put it for you.
You said Banda is blank because he should have seen these problems which are coming from the so called global crisis.
Now my question for you was simple; this crisis originated from the West, are you saying George Bush is blank because he should have seen the crisis? After all it sprang up primarily from his country.
So if this logic is hard for you, then there will be nothing simple for you, because this is the simplest analysis I can offer for you.
THE PROMBLEM WITH ALL OF YOU DISAGREEING WITH FINE IS THAT YOURS IS A CORRODED THINKING WHICH IS ALWAYS NEAGTIVE ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY AND ITS LEADERSHIP.NO PRIDE AND PATRIOTISM WHATSOEVER.GIVE US IDEAS ON HOW TO PUSH FOR FORWARD ZAMBAIA LIKE THE OTHERS ARE DOING.DONT JUST BE NEGATIVE BECAUSE AS PF YOU LOST..JUST CRITISING FOR NOTHING LIKE YOUR SATANA CHILUFYA MICHAEL AND YOUR FRIEND MMEMBE WHO IS A HYPOCRITE FAILING TO MANAGE HIS BUSINESS AND LOOKING AFTER HIS WORKERS AND WORST DICTATING BUT CLAIMING FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION! WHAT NONSENSE AND HYPOCRICY!
#176 Fine global crisis has been looming for one year and then by august it was already bad but RB was just waiting for LPM to die and just filling chair space. so the time between June and now the govt was doing very little, not even trying to come up with strategy thats why everything is crumbling down so fast and they can only do so much.
O ma labish pliz
Munatiuza kuti 50 pin bwana manje chani chabvuta?
175 ZAMBIANA, Do you know who is at the helm of the Zambian economy, or maybe do you know who is controlling the larger part of our economy? We have been signing about diversification from copper since KK was in power, LPM tried though he had his own short comings. The foreign direct investment is no longer cofident with our economy, why is it that just a few minutes of announcing the reduction of copper prices on London Metal Exchange, the Zambian Copper Industry is thinking of job cuts, kwacha bisec the rest is untold.
:)]The Blackman’s Child, gud day to you too. For putting us in your prayers, asante santa.=d>
Good morning Baby C and everyone :d
#174. Kambongolo,
Over the ‘third term’ people demonstrated because SATA and Chiluba had refused to listen.
People brought forward their views and recommendations as to why the third term was wrong but SATA and Chiluba would not listen.
All other means of discussion and sharing of ideas and dialogue would not make Chiluba and SATA listen.
At that point it became necesary to demonstrate, because the two were adumant.
Now, in this case SATA refuses to dialoge, he refuses to offer options to our economic issues, instead he says he wants demo because there is nothing to discuss. To if he had any ideas or options for steps to take to address the issues he would have something to discuss.
Here we go again.words without works.
RB HAS JUST GOTTEN INTO OFFICE AND THERE YOU ARE YOU WANT TO HEAP ON HIM FAILURE!WHAT NONSENSE!RUNNING A COUNTRY IS NOT LIKE BUYING GROCERIES IN YOUR HOUSE!RB FOUND LPM’S PROGRAMMES AND WE ARE AT THE END OF THE YEAR!NEXT YEAR’S BUDGET IS BEING WORKED OUT WITH NOW THE LEADERSHIP OF DR. MUSOKOTWANE WHO WAS THE BACKBONE OF MAGANDE,JUST WAIT AND SEE HOW RB WILL PUT MEASURES THROUGH A STIMULUS PLAN WHICH MUTATI HAS ALREADY TALKED ABOUT.FUNDAMENTAL CHANGES TO OUR ECONOMY GIVEN THE WORLD FINANCIAL CRISIS CANNOT HAPPEN OVERNIGHT!ZAMBIA RECORDED ECONOMIC GROWTH SO FAR AND YOU ARMCHAIR CTRITICS CANT SEE THAT.LPM’S ACHHIVEMENT HAVE NOT BEEN ERODED AND RB IS TAKING THE SAME ROUTE- ACCOMPLISH!
Anyway that’s it. Once a mistake has been done can be corrected. So what ever we voted for can not be turned back. Whether rigged or not rigged. What we need is support. But come 2011 we shall see. We shall need new blood. Even though I am in my middle fifties I want new blood. So please young men and women start from now showing us that you will be capable enough to come and rule us. Manje if you start manyozo this time, we wont have confidence in you. The earlier the better. Start asking for wisdom from your grandfather. Ask him how to rigg elections now, so that when you come to stand you will be in power not manyozo. you are not gaining anything from insults you a westng time
No. 182 The Zed Parrot, what are brothers for?^:)^[-o< God Bless, Jah Guide. hey whats your comment on the shoe and George Bush. Sorry its off topic.
# FINE# dont dodge my question….the question is why people cant demostrate in RB’s regime. How dagerous is it? How does it endagers you as fine? Answer me. You knnow very well as you are at state house how your bosses misused money and made false promises to Zambians. And you are saying dont chase Investors ..yes it is true but I hate the dependence desease of 100% depending on foreigners to build Zambia…cant you see dullness their of you and your bosses? Tax free for a foreign business man and heavy tax for a Zambian business man. And FSP fertilizer do you know where it goes?? Let me tell u.research has it that about 10% of the fert goes to the poor villager and 90% to u guys..
#172. Rashid Jones,
Your comparison is invalid because you are comparing countries whose economic back-bones are different.
Zambia’s economy is dependent on copper and i hope you are looking at the commodity prices on the international markets.
Copper is among the worst hit, while some other mineral like uranium are gaining value. Botswana and RSA are not dependent on copper. Diamond prices have not neen as much affected. I must also say that these countries have their economies not relying on minerals only. So instability in mineral prices will not create doom for them.
So when we make economic comparisons let us be fair to economic principles. Using emotions will not do.
Am collecting shoes for throwing, anyone else?
181 The Black Mans’s Child.WHO IS AT THE HELM OF OUR ECONOMY? I THINK YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT!WHO IS CONTROLLING OUR ECONOMY?THAT TOO U SHUD KNOW!DIVERSIFICATION OF THE ECONOMY WAY FROM COPPER STARTED SOME TIME BACK AND LPM ALSO PUT IN SOME MEASURES TOWARDS THAT!MAJOR DIRECT INVESTMENTS ATTRACTED SO FAR IS AND WILL CONTINUE INTO MINING.THATS OUR ADVANTAGE ACCORDING TO OUR EXPERIENCE.IN THE MEANTIME. AGRIC ,MANUFACTURING TOURISM ARE BEING PUSHED FORWARD.WE HAD TO DO THE LEGAL FRAME WORKS FIRST.THIS TAKES DEBATES AND LAWMAKING AND INDEED TAKES TIME! I MEAN REFORMS AND SELL PILICY TO ALL STAKEHOLDERS.REMEMBER THE VISION 2030 AND FNDP HAVE JUST BEEN DONE AND SO NOW IS IMPLEMENATION!READ THESE!
#175 am also MMD big time but my brother this is too much. i dont see us going anywahere with our plans 😕
#189. Kambongolo
You conclusion is wrong, but i dont blame you. Your level of analysis is to blame for all this.
I am not at state house as you visualise (I can’t say perceive because perception is more involving).
In the RB administration people can demonstrate, just like they did during third term. Everywhere, even in the past you are talking about demos have been the last resort. Not the way you want to do it with SATA, making demo the first option then other avenues later.
To me that is failure to understand the place of demonstration in society. It is also failure to know the purpose of demo. Exhaust all the first options if RB is adumant, then demonstrate and I will join you.
:-@:-@:-@:-@:-@:-@:-@:-@:-@:-@:-@:-@^:)^^:)^^:)^^:)^^:)^^:)^

Ba MMD if you want to continue, get rid of this clown you put at the helm of your party, the true blues are complaining about these outsiders who are now behaving like UNIP during its dying moments.
FINE i am encouraged with your analytical thinking and understanding of issues surrounding our economy and the way foward.RASHID JONES etal.. are really Kaponya type and they have little to do in thier daily lives!I cant imagine the kind of businessman RASHID JONES is.If he is running a Katemba then am not surprised.BLOGGERS ZAMBIA NEEDS ALL OF US WHO CAN DEBATE WITH THE LOVE OF OUR COUNTRY AND NOT DESTROYING KIND OF BEHAVIOUR! STOP YOUR MERCENARY BEHAVIOURS AND GET PRODUCTIVE!
I CURSE O THOSE WHO SAPTED RB IF THEY ARE FORMING NEW PARTIES THEY WIL NEVA GET MA SAPORT,,,,,,
lelo Nyama Soya
jst fullfill what you promised
201!
UNIP was socialist. KK was blamed for the economic woes of Zambia because of running a command economy: controlled prices, interest and exchange rates and salaries as well as copper production. The IMF criticised him for subsidising consumption (mealie meal). MMD was capitalist. Chiluba espoused free market. Supply and demand. The IMF & co. promised debt cancellation. LPM achieved HIPC and we got debt cancellation. We gave up control of Central Bank and foreign exchange and copper production. Mealie meal prices, exchange rates etc. will follow the laws of supply & demand. Now we have a president who is MMD in thinking but UNIP in feeling. Mind or heart who wins? That is the question!
Fine…I must say I am very impressed with your blogs!! They are the reason I keep comin back here…we need more people like you who can articulate issues and know exactly wat they are talkin about…thumbs up to u! =d>
FINE i like your analitical will power and consistence. Its just that RB s inadequacies and shot coming are overpowering. It would look to me as tho global crisis is becoming an easy shied for our govt because they had promised with no intention to pay up.My parents are farmers in CHAMUKA area in Kabwe and they never saw any of the 50pin ferti.IAM SURE THEY FEEL CHEATED
Vote Rigger
‘LPM achieved HIPC and we got debt cancellation’
This is a misleading statement, HIPC was not achieved. Was it an achievement to be considered among the 30 poorest nations in the world.
It is sad and indeed very disastrous for Zambia to have a man like RB who has no vision at all for the country presiding over the affairs of this nation. I want to believe the man is beginning to feel the real heat of that seat. No wonder, he is now trying to find a scapegoat. And what better reason to advance than the global financial meltdown. Shame on the man!!! Real leaders rise to the challenge. Look at Obama crossing party lines just to get people who can do the job and not picking bootlickers. When will you ever learn, RB Akulu Mphuno?
I hate you rashid and matworld .dont ask me Y?.
#198. ZAMBIANA, #203. Girly,
Thanks guys! It is because of people like you that I continue to make contributions. I am encouraged to see people who can perceive things like me, makes me feel I am not alone. I love people who, despite having emotions like everyone else, will not let emotions overshadow reality and understanding. People who will not be easily decieved by shrewd and crafty politiacians. I am happy to note that not all have been deceived. There are people whose calibre is above simple manipulation.
#192 Zambiana,
LPM had one major edge over RB and the rest. He believed in having systems/structures as the foundations of governance. Vision 2030, FNDP are just some of the few examples I can cite. And the man was dead seroius about the job at hand. Not so RB and his mentor KK.
Philosophically speaking, it is immoral to use man as a means to an end. Rather man must be an end in himself. Howver, this is what our current crop of leading is doing.
By the way. I never voted for LPM. He however proved me wrong.
The day when i will marry,i wil definitely be the happiest person in the world.Ala nkomfwa bwino!
Cease fire guys whether RB is doing fine or not don’t insult him.Respect your elders. Having said that where is that muzungu image builder, I think our president needs him again.Your excellency there are certain things you should not say in public like Zambias population is high- are you kidding me? Don’t reveal that govt procured fertilizer late, you will cause a national uproar and lose even the little confidence people have in you.Advise for free, i usually charge ka!
RB HAS FITTED INTO THE VISION 2030-ZAMBIA A MIDDLE INCOME PROPEROUS NATION.WHAT IT MEANS FOR HIM IS TO PROVIDE A ZAMBIAN FRIENDLY TYPE TYPE OF LEADERSHIP-OPEN TO DIALOGUE AND LISTENING TO WHAT ALL YOU BLOGGERS ARE SAYING AND HE HAS MECHANISM TO LISTEN FROM THIS PLATFORM.EVEN WHEN YOU INSULT HIM HE IS IGNORING YOU BECAUSE SONE OF YOU ARE GOOD CRITICS FOR NOTHING.BUT FOR THOSE WHO ARE DISCUSSING AND COMMENTING POSITIVELY ZAMBIA IS OURS AND LETS BUILD THE ZAMBIA AS PER VISION 2030! THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE NOT KNOWLEGEABLE AS TO WHAT IS BEING DONE BY RB OR CHOOSE NOT TO SEEK THE TRUTH YOU CAN CONTINUE WITH YOUR RIGHT TO CHEAT YOURSELVES!
This implies other countries are being managed better. Zambia is paying for poor leadership!! Blame Sata and HH for spoiling the No-MMD votes. Greedy chaps. If they joined hands, RB would not be President right now.
205. Roma Side
It is a disgrace to be among the 37 most highly indebted poor countries. So far only Guyana (in South America) has been promoted out of this list. By ‘achieving HIPC’ I mean that we implemented the IMF prgrams and reforms to get through from the ‘decision point’ to the ‘completion point’ where our debt was finally forgiven. I was trying to abbreviate for lack of space. By the way, did you know that Zimbabwe is not a HIPC?:-?
A lot of BS happening pa zed. Have you noticed that Zimbabwe has not been affected by the global crisis? we dont just neeed people in Govt we also need skill . Top notch skill not this tipping site stuff we ended up with. That is what people do when they have failed they blame it on circumstances.
vote Rigger
You meant meeting the benchmarks
I get your point.Certain counntries refused to be part of HIPC,Ghana is just one of the example.Zimbabwe was doing much better when the G7 proposed the HIPC initiative in cologne.
Rupiah needs legal lecture, says Masupa ..
208 Fine
Thanks for keeping the blog fire burning.
However could you tell me as to why is it possible for MMD cadres to demonstrate and not other people. How come ZNBC is always where there are people supporting the government and not those against the government. How come Teta can call for the blood of Muteteka when no one called for Teta’s blood when he was all over insulting the UPND leadership before he resigned from the party. Is this not a case of the black kettle calling a fire blackened pot black while ignoring its (kettle) own colour.
Rb and his bootlickers have just to do something. If it means consulting the sangomas let them do that. The seat is getting hoter and hoter each minute. lelö lelo….uleshininkisha. You thought being a president is being a VP under LPM?? Kosa fye taba insoni. my advice to you is stop sleeping as you used to do under LPM, its your time know to ride Zambia. #218. UMWINA KALALE,
I can not explain what you are asking for before I establish whether or not what you are saying is true.
I cannot explain and assumption that i have not made.
If you make an assumption you should be ready to explain the meaning.
But if you bring proven facts, then we can discuss them.

Where are you if i may ask. In zambia or outside the country. Do you watch ZNBC or you own Satellite tv connection. Your answers to these questions will give me a chance as to the basis of your argument and whether its is worth enganging you on this blog.
I n I have no coment today, a lot has already been said and am just following the discussion. Greetings Baby C, Shine on coz you make my day, selah. Herb time…

I am in Zambia and i watch ZNBC, Muvi, CBC, Mobi and TBN.
Do you only watch ZNBC yourself?
I think RB has dented the image of MMD. Looking aacross parties, MMD seemed to be full of bright young guys, risk takers, full of energy. It was so unlike UNIP, which was full of old guys like KK, Grey Zulu and their generation. PF is more like Sata himself.
MMD would do well to retire RB at 2011. He seems to be against the grain of the party. MMD is for dare-devils, risk takers, game changers, shrewed no-sacred-cow type of quick or slick people, not docile, slow, sleepy chaps. If RB continues at the helm, MMd should kiss goodbye to it’s image. It may fail like UNIP.
PF will die with Sata. HH has already failed to gunner mass support. MMD needs to rebirth itself.

:d Thought every one knew were we were going, starnge that our leader the great toadface was not told that we require good living in zambia.
Strange that our president is the first to cry about Global crunch from the african continent. How can he cry over a population of less than 12000000 PEOPLE
when other leaders are managing billions of individuals!!!
look at china!!! Fine my brother,i know we should be fair to our leadrs but our leaders should also be fair to us!!!
What change or new ideas do you expect from people like VJ and Teta!!!

Naisa bloggers naya mukuchinja pad.
It’s pity that the agricultural policies are not given priority by most African Government. As a matter of fact, I tend to wonder if politicians ever no the season let alone country action plan. You know immediately I heard about 50 pin fertilizer, I laughed that this is a joker!
Every finished product has input materials which when we put together sum up to cost of production. What do I mean in terms in analysing RB’s fertilizer saga:
COST ANALYSIS (FERTILIZER IMPORT)
USD $
F O B (per 50Kg) 35
Insurance & Freight 10
Cost before Duty 45
Duty 2
COST 47
ZMK Conversion @5000/$
#232. Time will Tell,
It does not matter wheteher you are just 2 or 3 or even alone, when you dont have enough, you dont have enough why pretend you have plenty?
What RB has done is simply to tell you that what is happening has negative impacts on our economy, whether we are 12, or 120 or 1200 or .., 12,000,000 does not matter. what matters is per capita income my friend.
SATA and Chiluba ruined all the industries, mining, agriculture and everything. Mwanawasa tried to bring some improvements but now we are faced with this crisis, our copper is worth little and that is the saty of our economy.
You expect RB to perform magic overnight? SATA and Chiluba caused deep damage to Zambia.

No. 214 VOTE RIGGER,I agree with you, for you information you can not compare Zambia to Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is far much ahead of us, that country has structures to support its economy. Its only that Bob is frustrating western interest, just wait if those guys will manage to pull through Zambia will be trying to buy maize, butter, cement ect from Zim. Mark my words!!!
Well, we are all experiencing the pain and hardship (either in person or by proxy, via family and friends etc) brought on partly by the policies and actions (or inactions for that matter) of previous governments and partly by global market forces. We are all affected, including Fine.
I find Fine’s analysis and arguments, on this topic, pretty factual, cogent and well reasoned.

Pretending to be mad is not the same as being mad guys or fellow bloggers. RB went that extra mile to win the MMD candidature and more extra miles to be elected as President of this land. I bet you he was not privy to the fact that being a lorry boy is not the same as a being a driver of the truck. He has just discovered that being a driver is much tougher. A real mad person can walk a busy road during peak hour of traffic while a person pretending to be mad will not do that as he know the danger. Don’t pretend to know or appreciate RB’s predicament which he has thrown himself into by lying in broad daylight. He lied that he will reduce the price of fertilizer.

It is not about not knowing how to be a driver, but it is about the ability to understand your environment, and knowing that such has dynamics. It is good that RB knows that the economy is not as rosy as Mr SATA potrays it.
It will be sad if our opposition leaders have no idea about what is affecting our economy.
Dont tell me that G.W. Bush did not know how to be a driver when his economy was being hit by this evil. It started primarily in US but he did not see it, now he has to react to it. RB is not the originator of the crisis what authority does he have over it?
All he has to do is acknowledge and find ways to address it.

Thanks. We need to understand what true suffering and real wealth is. Zambians may have mildly difficult times but they are prone to exaggeration of their difficulties. In 1980’s I worked with Nigerians and Ghanaians in ZCCM. While we were moaning, these guys kept telling us that we did not know what suffering was. Everyday, Zambians trekked to the market and Shoprite for repu or kabeji or kapenta and buledi on their way home from work. Very few utilised their spacious ‘mayadi’ to grow anything. Now things are changing slowly.
Point of correction #251 VOTE RIGGER, in the 80s there was no shoprite in Zed
Guys,I have just joined Congress of the People(COPE)!
Its great to see Zambian’s contributing on this blog. My wish is if we could have a constructive debate where we can all aire our views. I would blog more but am at work. I will play devils advocate, i feel it is wrong to entirely blam RB for this mess our country is facing. On the issue of fertilizer promise he erred but he wanted to win an election just as Sata was busy lying though luckily we haven’t had the chance to experience it. We know Zambias economy is dependent on other economies, doesn’t everyone see what is going on in the world? those calculations of maize and hectares, stop being theoretical and be practical, not every farmer has that many hectares and remembers economies?
We depended on boma for everything: rented accomodation, salary (hand to mouth- no investment) and pension to buy ‘icikayo’ after retirement etc. This govt dependence must stop for us to move on. The job of govt is to provide the instruments but it is up to us to work hard and prosper. Zambia’s GDP is $16 billion and debt is less now than it was at $4 billion. USA GDP is $14 trillion but debt is $17 trillion! How come they are not poor? Economists must be careful in the way they define poverty. Was my grandma poor when in the 70’s she had no TV, no tap water, no electricity, no cell phone but had chickens, goats, ka dimba (small garden) and a thatched roof over her head?
The ka Girl in the pic will be beaten by RB `s 28yr old dota if she continues looking at him like that.
#252. Kasai Kanko
Thanks. Point taken. I meant ZCBC and Mwaiseni.
As a result of the economies of scale, each farmers cost of production is different and therefore that theory can not work. I agree govt should be doing more but stop blaming people just for the sake of doing so.The time frame is too little to blame RB though he needs to step up and offer ways the country will get out this. Several ways: increased govt spending on capital projects to help employement, force banks to loan at favorable rates and reduce spending on non critical issues such as govt trips abroad. But being in the USA, these steps may not work in Zambia since we dont hav emoney as a country.
I give up LT….am outta here!!! :)>-
As I said before, it is the urbanised and spoilt hang abouts who moan about ‘difficult times.’ People in the rural areas are far much happier. They have hunger when the rains are poor, but not otherwise. The guys that feel poor are the ones who hang about at Manda Hill and drool over the ‘dollar flashing’ expats, NGOs and ‘recently arrived from abroad’ Zambians. Poverty is a relative feeling. Psychologists have shown that the people on the island of Vanuatu are among the happiest in the world! Vanuatus are allowed to use hog teeth as a means of exchange! One tooth can get your child educated for one year!
:)]Hello#188 the Blackman` Child. Sorry for responding late I was visiting Zanzibar. My comment on the shoe and George bush is : That journalist should be punished for missing the target.
Chintomwa and VOTE RIGGER, good arguments guys, we are learning. Keep it up.
It is time the developing countries developed their own economic systems. We fail because we are trying to imitate the western societies that have been experimenting for more than 400 years! Perhaps we should get rid of cash and the so called ‘dollar pegging’ and create a financial system that is backed by what we all agree is true wealth. There was a time when salt was a medium of exchange. We must find out what is it that people value most and use that as a means of exchange. Now, someone out there is seething! Yeh. go on, bring it on and let’s debate:)>-
LT why are you so boring nowadays. This story has been the main story since yesterday. Please update your site frequently like the way you used to update in the recent past.:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((
Vote Rigger, would love to agree with you since doing so would help us create a barrier when a crisis occurs, however, it is just not feasible in that economies are intertwined and isolating ourselves by having our own medium of exchange will not work. Unless we had all we needed in our countries but it is not the case. You may want a benz, but not produced in Zambia or if you decide to go to school abroad, they wont accept school fees paid by a bag of maize. We just need to use our comparative and competitive advantages more meaningfuly nad first task is identifying what those are.
Kwena muli mpoundishi ba gayi. If only our so called leaders could log on to this blog, they could just pick up one or two things to change their pathetic mindset
265. Chintomfwa
Aah, good point! That is where a duo system works. In the days of Christ, the Jews (best economists and astute businessmen ever) had a duo system. There was Caesar’s denari and Jewish shekel and these worked side by side. But when you came to the temple you needed to exchange your shekel for the temple currency (either a temple shekel or an animal to sacrifice). The so called ‘money-changers’ whose tables Jesus overturned begun the evil practice of charging commission on the proceedings. Similarly, in these days banks charge interest. This is totally wrong and will perpetuate poverty forever. The free masons (knight templars) started modern banking. It’s evil and enslaving.
# 263. Now you are talking. If we reverted to the old barter system of exchange as practised at Ingombe Ilede(renowned for copper-gold trade), it would circumvent the current tendancy where the value of our precious metals are determined at the London Stock Exchange with no input from the seller. This is the significance of inter-regional and intra-continental trade.
What the hell is happening with Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia?.Why cant we pump in abit of cash and produce D-Compound as an emergency?.Hey..RB,Kunda,start thinking b4 its too late!
Vote Rigger,Again agree on your point in the days of Christ, but we have to bear in mind that these were much smaller societies and in most cases they were very similar in culture meaning their”most important commodity” was probably similar but today in africa alone, Zambia may be maize while in a neighbouring country it may be beef or rice, so thereby creating a hussle to trade. the duo system, i believe that is in practice in zambia currently, i remember being told that an aunt ahd exchanged a bull for 5 bags of maize, it can be done if the people have similar tastes. So i still feel, we should just work hard and come out on top.
Na mailo litali, goodnite bloggers

We have have been hooked to the ATM type type of thing;
Now tell me, how are you going to configure Ingombe Ilende system onto the ATM transactions.
Should we get cows from our employers as salaries.
Anyway, your jokes are more intellectually refreshing than what majority resort to as jokes when they are waiting for a new topic.

These ideas are not as laughable as they look. Cuba has survived 50 years of strangulating sanctions by uncle Sam because of batter system. There is more we have that can be used to our advantage than the dollar. We have human and resources and anything can be battered. Venezuela uses oil. Why do we have to use the LME to sell our copper? I for one believe that this institution has outlived its days and must go. It was ok for Cecil Rhodes BSA Co. but it is no longer necessary. The world is running out of ‘traditional methods of fighting a recession.’ It is time for new thinking>
LT, what’s this? Have you gone on strike or what?
Thank you #279. Did you mention Venezuela? Nigeria is within our vicinity and RB was recently on a tour of duty to that country. Surely, we could barter their crude oil with our Zambian goods. What about Angola?

African way of thinking. Sorry guys but we are thick! The wum gets paid by MMD so all is well for him and Zambia.
I have always said on here, there are people in Zimbabwe who are going to tell you there is nothing wrong with Zim and infact the economy is doing fine.

Either you are a bachellor who stays alone or you dont treasure your family for you to continue browsing and blogging at home.
As for me, I have a wonderful family with whom I spend my pleasant moment after work.
With you language I can see that you have insulted them for too long and there is no way you can enjoy evenings with them.
The internet does not have feelings so you can spend more time with it than your family.
