Gwendoline Konie dies

Social Democratic Party president, Gwendoline Konie has died.

Ms. Konie died at MKP Trust Hospital in Lusaka on Saturday morning.

Family Spokesperson Saviour Konie disclosed this in a statement to ZNBC news.

Mr. Konie said the burial of Gwendoline who is also former Zambia’s representative to the United Nations will take place on Tuesday at Kalabi farm in New Kasama.

The funeral is being held at Kalabi Farm in New Kasama, in Lusaka.

Ms Konie contested the 2001 presidential election which ushered President Mwanawasa into office.

  1. I knew the Lady when she was Ambassador here in Germany in the 90’s !! MHSRIP !! One of the intellectuals that Zambia had.

It was the only best bookstore that was around those days. Hope we could try to do a Foundation on her behalf either in her name, bookstore or her deeds.   8. I met Ms Konie in New York in ’99 when I was attending Under Grad School. She was such an articulate woman. She will be dearly missed by a lot whom she influenced with her simple but well thought out reasoning. Very principled and well read.

  9. Ba Mwine, she was quite old and I’m not sure what the problem was but she was okay and was at a function last Sunday and she was in high spirits. What a lovely woman. It’s good to see so many kind comments about a woman who was a geniunely lovely person! God bless her and I feel for her family.
