MMD to resume lower organ elections, Katele Kalumba

Share

Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) will soon resume the process of elections to fill up leadership positions in the party’s lower organs.

Party National Secretary, Katele Kalumba said members of the MMD could not continue with this process because of the demise of late President Patrick Mwanawasa who had initiated the process.

Dr. Kalumba said the National Executive Committee of the MMD has considered it prudent to continue with the process after the election of President Rupiah Banda, who is now the party leader.

He said the chairman of elections has since been directed to issue a time schedule defining when different levels of the party organs would be expected to complete their party conferences.

He said the process of elections will be a continuous one, adding that this initiative has already been undertaken.

Dr. Kalumba explained that the level at which each province has reached concerning elections in party organs would not require to start afresh but would just continue where they ended.

This is contained in a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka last this evening.

And the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy in Serenje district of Central province has pledged total support to President Rupiah Banda in all his endeavours to lead the country.

Acting MMD district chairperson, Mulando Hamachili and district secretary, Richard Chikamba said President Banda should be given enough time to lead the country to prosperity.

Mr. Hamachili and Mr. Chikamba have since commended President Banda and the MMD National Executive Committee for expelling Katuba Member of Parliament Jonas Shakafuswa and Mpulungu Member of Parliament Lameck Chibombamilimo from the party.

The duo said the MMD should not tolerate indiscipline members adding that nobody was indispensable.

  1. Now Mpondela has felt the wrath of the voice of youths, but i thought the post already corrected the issue and MMD secretariat shud have acted on the report that came from the post rather than wanting Mpondela to take the post to court in order for him to be reinstated. Well finding faults with the post will not help cleanse the mud RB and coy have rite now

  2. there is total confusion in MMD, if you want to save your job dont say anything about your president and what is going on in the party.

    • then what kind of leadership is that that does not consider other pipo’s views? thats dictatorship then RB is not a leader beside he is not offering any leadership at all we are in trouble….

    • AND I SUPPOSE YOU CAN SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE SELF APPOINTED LEADER IN PF OR ASPIRE TO BE PARTY PRESIDENT OF UPND IF YOU AREA LOZI OR BEMBA. AT THE MOMENT MMD IS SIMPLY THE MOST DEMOCRATIC. NOT PERFECT. BUT BETTER THAN THE REST IN THE PACK.

    • Point of correction my brother, the MMD once was a democratic party but at the rate we are going it will be exactly like UNIP under KK.WE Shall leave it for them.

  3. How is the process of elections to fill up leadership positions in the party’s lower organs going to help Zambia fight the effects of this economic crunch Mr Banda?
Pls direct your party and its members in a direction that profits not only your ego but also the nation as a whole. I was beginning to praise you on your statements to those Chinese investors last night at State House. Now this? In one LT thread you make sense and in another you pull everything down. ~X(
Please away with these Party centered politics and adopt politics of the entire nation. The time given to you by the people was not for you to restructure your Party! Even if the former President initiated it, you are not…

    • .. the Craftsman of that process. You may agree with the visions that Levy had but you will be judged by your own Visions. Please use your brains and not those of a former president. Please look at the PRESENT economic Situation and come up with strategies that will address these issues. The main problems with most African Leaders is sticking to ideologies that a thing of the past. Please start living and live for Today and the future.

    • “A PRESIDENT MUST BE ABLE TO DO A THOUSAND THINGS ALL AT THE SAME TIME.” THIS IS WHAT OBAMA TOLD MCCAIN WHEN THE LATTER SUSPENDED HIS CAMPAIGN OVER THE COLLAPSE OF OF LEHMAN BROTHERS. GOT IT?

  4. On “Mr. Hamachili and Mr. Chikamba have since commended President Banda and the MMD National Executive Committee for expelling Katuba Member of Parliament Jonas Shakafuswa and Mpulungu Member of Parliament Lameck Chibombamilimo from the party”, I hope the duo above commending the President will not cry foul in the near future for the sad decision to expel Mr Shakafuswa and Mr Chibombamilimo from the MMD.

    • IT IS TIME TRIBAL CLEANSING.THE WHOLE NEC SAVE FOR TETA & KATELE WILL GIVE WAY TO UNIPISTS.UNIP IS BACK THROUGH THE BACK DOOR .2011 ZWAAA!!!

  5. I also think that people like Teta should not be included in the new Nec. This chap has no respect for authority at all. He insults Katele who apparently is his superior and lately he’s been insulting Jeff Kaande who is also his boss! The electorate should mark such people very carefully
