Zambezi Central Ward Councillor, Paul Nongo has called on government to provide a standby generator to the Zambezi District hospital to avoid inconveniences when ZESCO power goes off.
Hospital Administrator, Bukama Chilipili said efforts were being taken to secure a generator but referred all queries to the Ministry of Health spokesperson, who could however not be reached for a comment.
Patients complained that they use candles every night when power goes off, a situation which should not be happening at a health institution.
Meanwhile a Mr.Nongo has accused nurses at Zambezi District Hospital of being uncaring to patients.
The Zambezi Central Ward Councillor, charged that the nurses have no sense of urgency for patients, saying they take long to attend to patients even when they were not busy.
Mr. Nongo told ZANIS in an interview that he received a lot of complaints from the members of the public about the alleged bad behaviour by nurses towards patients.
Another case for the Minister of Health. It seems someone is not doing their job adequately.
I don’t think it is MOH’s fault. It all goes down to Ministry of Energy & Water Development’s Policy. They should look at whether there are potential falls or rapids in the entire Zambia which can be taken advantage of to have micro-generation facilities. I am sure Zambezi has some which can be tapped for electricity generation.
Very good observation Kamunyama. The Ministry of Energy & Water need to work in coordination with the Ministry of Health.
Sure, the Hospital should have a back up generator that will service in case of the same situation occurs
Exactly a generator is owez important
This is not accepted zesco was the engine of rural electrification, they should sustain and maintain the flow of power as professionals, even where they have installed prepaid, they should be no power shortage because one has devoted to pay ahead then should he/she buy malasha by the side? the hospital can buy the gen-set but the provider should be the sustainer. ERB must draft a regulation to compel the supplier to accept responsebilities when supply is disrupted, let Zed go forward
Every hospital deserves a standby generator for emergency purposes. With the multitude of load shedding in Zambia, such pleas must be considered ASAP.
Well nurses should have a heart to care and if they ever find themselves loosing the touch of caring for patients then they are no longer in need of the profession.
Reading such news, sadden me and the more we find nurses relaxing when on duty then strong measures should be put in place and this includes the matron and administration entities as much as we are in developing countries patients should be treated with respect and extra care.
