Teachers in Southern Province have resolved to go on strike when schools re-open for the second term on Monday.
Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia, BETUZ,Acting Chairperson, Mwangala Dyaunka and Provincial Secretary, Basil Hibajeene, disclosed this to ZANIS in Mazabuka today.
The two union officials said the teachers resolved not to report to work in order to press government to expedite the conclusion of negotiations for increased salaries and improved conditions of service.
They said the current collective agreement expired in March adding that by April, teachers were suppose to have new conditions of service.
The union officials said teachers have become impatient over the delays by both government and union leaders to conclude the negotiations forcing the union to take painful decisions.
The union leaders said the move taken by the teachers will serve as a warning to government not to take teachers for granted.
They said teachers are demanding for among others, payment of outstanding settling, housing, rural, and remote allowances apart from the salary increment.
The officials also complained that the price of essential commodities have continued to rise while government has paid a blind eye to the plight of teachers.
ZANIS
strike, strike, strike let them go ahead everyone needs money.
Its about time. No more excuses for the credit crunch, which has affected everyone else and government ought to be seen to be moving in a direction that is aimed at alleviating its impact on workers.
They have all the rites in the world to strike
I wonder where the govt is going to get more money for such civil servants if its not from me a tax payer. I mean, they decided not to tax the mine owners enough to cover their budget and the same civil servants were for the idea giving an excuse of a credit crunch. now that it has affected them, the credit crunch is not to be the excuse. Anyway, since they don’t ask me how much to give them and they have already decided, my only prayer is that party of my money will be used to develop my town which happens to be CHINGOLA the most negrected town in terms of development but most concerned in terms of getting money from it.
Teachers, just srtike. Too much kumidelela for too long now!
This is a well deserved call. On “Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia, BETUZ,Acting Chairperson, Mwangala Dyaunka and Provincial Secretary, Basil Hibajeene, disclosed this to ZANIS in Mazabuka today“, I am in support of Mrs M. Dyaunka for this decision she has taken. Continue doing a good leadership job madam there in Mazabuka and Southern Province.
This “The officials also complained that the price of essential commodities have continued to rise while government has paid a blind eye to the plight of teachers is very annoying especially after President RB Banda’s first thing he did when he assumed the Zambian Presidency was to sign the new exhobitant increase of Constitutional officers of which he is part.
Have a blessed day.
The govt & its party cadres are enjoying while citizens are wallowing in poor conditions do it.Improve also on performance of teaching so that we have high rate of passing than what we have now because when they grow up again we shall have dull & selfish leaders like the current economic hazards as at now.
