The Chishinga chiefs in Kawambwa district have attributed the increase in cases of unwanted pregnancies among girls to some group gatherings organized by some churches in the area.
Chishinga chiefs’ representative, Benario Chabanya, said some churches have contributed to the increase in the number of pregnancies among girls because they send them out with boys for singing in choir groups to distant places.
Mr Chabanya was speaking in Kawambwa yesterday during the Campaign for Female Education, CAMFED, child protection and psychosocial care and support workshop.
Mr Chabanya said since boys and girls are not accompanied by their parents and guardians, they resort to involving themselves in illicit sex resulting into pregnancies.
He advised churches in the area to review their church programmes involving the youth to help reduce cases of unwanted pregnancies among girl.
And Saint Mary’s Catholic Church Parish Priest, father Crispin Mwila, said his church has stopped sending girls and boys to distant places for singing as a way of avoiding pregnancies.
Father Mwila, who is also CAMFED district secretary, said girls and boys involve themselves in immoral activities and his church has stopped sending them for singing to distant places.
Meanwhile, district Social Welfare Officer, Placide Musonda, bemoaned the lack of data on child abuse cases in the district.
Mr Musonda regretted that many people in the district did not report child abuse cases, a situation that was affecting development of statistics in the area.
And Mr Musonda has urged traditional leaders in the district to work together with their subjects in the fight against child abuse.
ZANIS
is this chief serous?
Any statistical figures from a conducted survey to justfy the claim, just curious. If its true, then it is sad………….very sad
Too bad. I am sure Church leaders will accuse traditional ceremonies for high pregnancy rate
who lays who? There is no blame to place on anyone for something that two people enjoy. Just accept it as it is.
Ifi fintu fyaliwamisha sana…the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
Iwe Nine Chale, nomba you have revealed yourself ha ha ha ha !! Nice Pic mudala wandi!!
Yes Jamaco, it’s about time to come out in the open without fear…give the babies some rest.
Wilaseka iwe…efyo iyaa.
the church has a big role to play in the economic scenario of our country. social activities such as these organised by the church are important for the self development and actualisation of the youth. the church should be thanked for organising them, but when we hear this, it just means that the church need to power up its muscle in teaching and correcting the flock. This is what the church is for. The Corithain church mentioned in the bible had a man who was much more sexually immoral than the Zambian boys and girls that he went to an extent of “chewing” his father’s concubine. There are many cases and examples that can be drwan from the bible itself, but we know that the bible is written to correct us and those cases have been recorded so that we take reasons from them.
The youth stage is a challenging point in the life cycle of growth. At this point in life, once is constantly banged by the powers of procreation through the raging power of sexual desire (call it is ISUNA as abena luapula tondo abene). Whatever, the church as well as the community has the role to play in ensuring that young people are told and well informed about the right place of having sex, and the consequences that go with the transgression. Ii end here, but maybe later, I will look at the economics of this issue. We cannot under estimate it.
#5 Nine Chale, Twaliishiba ati fyaliwama but the flesh can be controlled by it’s owner, lol!
Ba choir master should be held responsible for these pregnancies because he is the guardian of the girls and boys when they go out signing! So counselling should start with the choir master, the singers and then the parents should also be involve
Even the kids should stop using chruch as ka junction. kale fya yamba twa li fishi ba
#8&9. Xioto,
i AGREE WIT YOU MY BROTHER AND I JUST WANT TO ADD A FEW.
let me start by saying that one of my freinds who is a Jehovah’s witness told me that thats the reason why their org. banned choirs some years ago.
but I wonder why this is so common in the choir groups who preach to us the opposite of it.
Do these people ever dicuss their composed songs or the need to know God better than we know Him? Or could it be high time we looked for a better criteria to recruit singers in the choir so that we have people who understand their middion? Am a sunday school teacher that is why I will Never forget this phrase, ” WHAT YOU ARE DONIG IS SPEAKING MORE LOUD THAT I CAN’T HEAR WHAT YOU ARE TELLING ME”. May be priests should be choir masters.

Choir or no choir if a girl is destined to be impreganted, she will. Bala lya ba guy even if tali mu choir umwaiche.
I agree with u ba Dr.these teenagers spend more time with their parents, who are not even role models and in the end they expect a miracle from the Church. this is pure BLASPHEMY.
Choir camping stories…., true yet painful when your child is involved or a victim…
CAMP MEETINGS are to blame
ITS THE WILLI TO BLAME MWE BANTU
It is a normal result especially if pa chorus na last stanza ngamulefikapo ngapafita. And if you also have to sing ulwimbo lwachishipa pa last, alale mwandini nisotambe.
But mwaibepesha church!! Ati shani? Becuase of singing in the choir? Iyee mayo! Choir or no choir, when it comes to the ntwane, there is nothing you can do about it. And where are these statistics coming from anyway?
Overnight youth prayer meetings are to blame.
Charity begins at home. Well, that is very true. The bible places this command on parents The bible at Deut 6:6,7 states “And these words that I am commanding you today must prove to be on your heart; and you must inculcate them in your son and speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.” How can parents apply the words quoted above? Did you notice that good morals must start with the parents? Yes, God’s law must prove to be in their hearts, then they must also enculcate it into their sons and of course daughters. So christian parents who take this God given responsibility always ensure that they teach their children from a tender age. The church however also bears it responsibility in this.
No#22 Elo natona you just made my day, spoken with wisdom. Why do we not segregate choir meetings. I believe these should be conducted Saturday mornings with very Christian police madams present. Infact paying the police to have female Christian officers accompany these choirs would be a true solution. With technology teleconference the choir meetings. Solutions are abound.
A UCZ Rev was beaten up by a Choir Master for trying to stop this nonsense. So it not the churches but parents who allow their daughters to stay out at night on the pretex of attend to church business. Parents should help the church. If you see your friends gets pregnant through choir activities and you still allow your daughter then you become culpable too.
