Police in Luanshya have recorded a warn and caution statement from Patriotic Front Roan Member of Parliament, Chishimba Kambwili for allegedly defaming President Rupiah Banda.

The police have also recorded another warn and caution statement from the two Post newspaper journalists, Mutuna Chanda and Zumani Katasefa, the authors of the story in which Kambwili said that President Banda was foolish.

Kambwili who arrived at Luanshya Central Police Station around 10 hours accompanied by his supporters in four hired mini-buses, was interrogated for close to two hours in the presence of his lawyer.

Addressing his supporters outside the police station after the interrogation, Kambwili denied having insulted the President, adding that he had respect for him.

Kambwili is cited to have accused the republican President of having incited MMD party cadres to harass him when he went to greet him shortly before his rally at Kafubu stadium.

Nkani yalula, azakamba kusogolo. I am just wondering why president HH is not being recorde a warn and caution statement but MP Kambwili has been taken to task. This is either selective ways of dealing with characters or president HH has not case to answer.

  3. What exactly is defamation? People have the right to criticize the president without fear, unless its a dictatorship …am I missing something?

  4. The police have recorded a warn and caution statement,. Fellow bloggers what is the meaning in that context and what is the implication?

  5. and the plot thickens. i think the police should also be visiting LT and see how freely we have a go at RB. Bakatwikata bonse lol

  6. We just have to know our limits gentlemen. we cant just be throwing insults at leaders like Nigerians do. criticize while still maintaining our values of Ubuntu (humanity).

  7. What was the picture when , he , was arrested?. An alarmist is as good as a criminal and the reasoning voices will speak.

  8. Headline in the Post “Malawi opposition leader fears poll rigging by ‘some Zambians’ ”
    Nkani yalula……………………….

  9. Zambians are backwards, how do you encourage this nonsense of police arresting anyone who calls a spade a spade! We all know RB is facking corrupt. The Chinese believe in corruption.

  10. Post reads: I CANNOT PROTECT TRIBUNAL WITNESSES – JUSTICE SAKALA

If the CJ cannot protect witnesses then who will? You know what? Arrest Justice Sakala too LOL

  11. I personally think The Post has lost it’s direction… This is my opinion, I could be wrong but just like with my belly button, I’m also entitled to an opinion.

  12. Now Mr Hakainde Hichilema should not be untouchable. He has a prima fascie case of defamation, sedition and treason-felony. I offer to prosecute (LOL)

  13. Do not insult Nigerians . Who taught me English? the Nigerians . As a lozis and a medical doctor at Specialist level . With the Knowledge of Things fall apart ? Nigerians,I love them , Cry the beloved country by Allan Patan in South African, encroachment By River between , by Ngungi WA Thio go
Who taught me advanced English? A tribalist wound have failed me period. Let sata be manure.

  14. I have said time and time again that Hakainde Hichilema is insignificant in Zambian politics. Please, even though you arrest him for the crime he has committed, he is not going to become popular. Even people in his own party where doubting his credibility and his hunger for power. This young man must step down and let someone else rule the UPND.

The UPND is facing some internal wrangling with some members pushing for the replacement of HH as party president and presidential candidate for 2011.

  15. cont.]

The dissatisfied members argue that HH is too arrogant and elitist and that since he has lost elections twice, he should step aside as per party constitution. Members have been calling for a national convetion to deal with other outstanding issues but the party has brushed these aside.

Please, exercise the law on HH immediately. Let him provide evidence for his claim. He dodged the request for evidence by stating “let them arrest me”. Please govt, call his bluff and act immediately. HH must not be exempt from the law.

  16. The police as usual are arresting the wrong people..Let them arrest George Kunda for supporting the hardcore criminal dora Siliya..

  17. THIS LAW ON DEFAMATION IS NOT CONSISTENT WITH DEMOCRACY AMONG WHOSE TENETS IS THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

  18. Can Rb be too questioned , for Maintaining Kafupi as a confidante….When LMP regarded him as a two faced individual.

7 Mossad-Kgb thanks and keep well.On Kambwili who arrived at Luanshya Central Police Station around 10 hours accompanied by his supporters in four hired mini-buses, was interrogated for close to two hours in the presence of his lawyer, I am happy that ba-kaponya are being given money for making noise so that they can eat too. Times have become hard in Zambia’s Copperbelt Province as our fellow Citizens are losing employment from time to time. So this is really a nice way to make sure they also get some money for food from the Constitutional office bearers in an easy fashion.

  20. Zambians, lets not accept anything the police do in the name of defamation. Lets uphold democracy in this country. Imagine this, if what Kambwili said was said by HH, i dont think they would call it defamation. I dont see anything wrong in what he said.

  21. LT why do you even give these cabovas press time- is this news surely? Is anyone @ your news agency aware of The Citizens Democratic Party/CDP. Have you seen their website and seen their most recent post on how to create jobs as you are reporting utterly useless stories as your lead story?

But I’ll comment all the same- what exactly does Kambwili think he’ll gain by insulting RB and vice versa. These politics of yesterday have been given too much attention. Pls give us something with substance. We’re sick and tired of being sick and tired. Google CDP Zambia.

I”m back on the blog like I left something. Glad to see Maestro is still making sensible contributions. Maestro go to Zambia and join UPND- maybe you will provide the spark they seem to lack!

30 Chinsali Inc greetings and thank you very much. Good to have you back and keep doing your thing even better now. On your “Glad to see Maestro is still making sensible contributions. Maestro go to Zambia and join UPND- maybe you will provide the spark they seem to lack!“, I am booked to go to Zambia in June and might just make it there. However, I am hoping I will be at home eating mabisi, munyoli, etc. with his mama in September or October, by God’s grace. I will see how much contribution I can offer to the Zambian political scenario once I am there.
    Have a blessed day, brother/sister.

  24. Maestro is right on this point . The Snake and them all are , evil in camouflage my area in pin pointing …..

  25. For Maestro- that’s good- sometimes we have to take the battle home. After all talk is cheap. Good luck to you; I guess I’ll be doing guesswork on your true identity when you are politicking. Don’t forget to shout out Chinsali Inc!- I joke….

On another note- one can oly say so much on this Kambwili story- LT get fresh stories we can debate- geez.

  26. Freedom of speech allows any of us to criticize the president or any person with political imbeddedness(kaya nga nichi zungu chamene na lembe lol). We only differ in the ways we speak some wisely comment while others due to the pain the MMD has caused to all Zambians they shoot harsh words. Especially since RB is both MMD and UNIP, it’s like looking at communism and total socialism in one; what’s worse now is that we know about democracy, while seeing the brain washing that Kaunda did to our country in real time in the 21st century. Let us all repent like Ninevah then ask God to bring wisdom to our people, the fear of the Lord which is true wisdom. Join me all in prayers bloggers we need help.

  27. Ataa!! UNIPISM has come back to Zambia. The law on defamation makes Zambian presidents dictatorial because its always used to stop freedom of speech. This law is backwards and impedes democracy that is if we have any in Zambia. The Zambia Police may have changed their name from FORCE to SERVICE but still are a FORCE against freedom of speech and freedom of ASSEMBLY,still kill more people extra judiciary than those murdered by criminals.Any one who speaks out loudly against the President or GRZ ends up being arrested or harassed by police.Democracy is allowing people to speak even when you don’t agree with them not squeezing their necks.Ba Satana!!

  28. #3 that’s correct, but remember that when you defame the president the law takes its course whether you are a member of the ruling or opposition party, Okay?

  29. Why arresting Kambwili leaving insults on this blog multiplying. RB on this blog is insulted from toes up to his head. Zambia Police come and arrest L.T bloggers. Its back to UNIP wamuyaya lesa apale amen.

  30. #6 Yes you are missing something. Society places limits on individual freedoms in case we harm others.
The president is the embodiment of a nation; the analogy is the respect children give to their father in a (well groomed) home.

  31. #25 Democracy like everything else has its limits. Can you imagine walking in cairo road and every jim and jack calls you a f****ng b*****d in the name of freedom of speech?
Imagine a young blogger insulting your father in the name of democracy

  32. For all bloggers who keep calling all negative events ‘going back to UNIP(ISM)’, that phrase is so yesterday. Be original, you broken records!

  33. Rocket Scientist Maestro Hhehhehhehhe - ndeezwa ku-musanza for Zambians in the 2011 tripartite National elections Rocket Scientist Maestro Hhehhehhehhe - ndeezwa ku-musanza for Zambians in the 2011 tripartite National elections

35 wiseman-reborn and Chinsali Inc thanks very much. Yes we as Zambians can say whatever we want on the blogs, but the real battle of wits is on the ground in Zambia. I am going home to do what I can and by God’s grace, I will help to clean up the mess in our Zambian politics.
In all, let us remember that we need to unite as one Zambia one Nation. I know that there are characters who behave as if they are supporting the Undereducate, but what they are doing is simply to create animousity for nothing because they are inherently MMD. Kee well you all and be blessed.

  34. i don’t understand this really, but it looks like people are constantly being questioned about whatever comments they make about the president. That surely in itself is very intimidating.

  35. lets not get too excited! The Police are always taking warn and caution statements from anyone. After all, they need to potray a working image. Nothing, and i mean nothing, will happen to Kambwili.

  36. These are laws meant to portray Zambia as a nation from medieval times. The president has enough protection as it is. Political hetchmen, from all respective parties, are going round terrorising innocent people and the police stand back and do nothing. The nation has become a paradise for lawlessness, and the police have the guts to warn and caution people who call the president foolish. Pity that the rulers have no courage to summon enough wisdom from the recess of their minds. They chose to govern by intimidation and fear. Unip once did that but where are they?

  37. Bane, hope muli bwino monse. Bushe if someone says you are a fool, is it an insult? Bloggers, please help me understand this. Kambwili is said to have insulted or is it defamed the President. Any insights?

  38. Nawakwi was threatened with Gang rape by MMD thugs. Is that not threateneing rape (violence against humanity/women)? Kabonde the IG talks on behalf of his boss boss RB and If Kabonde’s interpretetion that threats do not constitute a crime (as that is what the MMD believes in), then Kabwili is innocent. He must even be rewarded instead. I’m waiting for someone to threaten Gang raping Thandiwe. lets see what RB shall do.
