Ms Mwanawasa said claims by Patrick that she was not aware of the appointment were not true and advised her nephew to avoid being used by people not happy that the Mwanawasa family was ready to work with President Rupiah Banda.
“The Mwanawasa family has always been ready to work with President Banda. We said this even at first prior to the October 2008 presidential by-election and I do not see the reason things can change now.
“This situation will not take us anywhere. I mean, Patrick has never been in touch with me to talk about this issue and if anything, Patrick is just a child and he is not the person we should be consulting over such issues,” she said.
Ms Mwanawasa said family members who included her uncles Green Chilabika and Philimon Mokola and her older sister Rona were all consulted and gave a ‘green light’ for her appointment to the NEC.
Reacting to claims published in yesterday’s Post edition that she and the family were not consulted, Ms Mwanawasa said she even had the opportunity of discussing the matter with her close friends who all advised her to accept the appointment.[quote]
She advised Patrick to go back to school and build his future than allowing himself to be used by the people that would not help him shape his destiny.
Ms Mwanawasa said her family was ready to work with President Banda’s administration and that was the reason she accepted the appointment.
“In fact, after my appointment, we even went to State House with my two uncles to meet and thank President Banda for recognising me as a person who can work with the party and this confirmed that we were actually consulted,” she said.
Rona Mwanawasa said separately in Chisamba that the family actually sat down and advised her sister to take up the position.
“We actually sat down as a family and advised Evelyn to accept the appointment. We are MMD and we see no reason we should abandon the party to join the opposition just because our brother has died,” she said.
She said that those trying to use Patrick should desist from doing so because they were just bent on destroying the young man.
“In fact, if Patrick says anything wrong in the whole thing, he should have contacted us than going to the newspaper. We have never been in touch with him and it is not true for him to say he had even contacted Evelyn over the appointment,” she said.
Patrick claimed in the Post Newspaper story that MMD wanted to use the Mwanawasa name only when it suited them and that the appointment of her aunt was not genuine and was just intended to benefit the MMD.
But Rona said Patrick was not a politician and had never been one and that those trying to use him were not helping him.

LT, is this story really wort the space it has been given? To me, these are just normal differences which have no great significance to the lives of ordinary Zambians. We want to hear what the gov’t is doing to solve the crisis with health workers.
Has Zambia become a kingdom or what? I really do not see why the Mwanawasa’s should really be so coveted that appointments to government or party positions can be made solely on the basis what name one bears. In all this, I see a lot of opportunism in both the appointed and the appointee. What experience or expertise will she bring to the MMD or indeed the government save for the name she bears. These appointments are really just a breach of trust that people have entrusted in certain individuals.

Did anyone on this blogg hear the name of this Rona when LPM was president or either Patrick Mwanawasa? The ans is no. Few weeks ago when the K27 billion corruption came to light plus some money in one of the banks in Zambia came to light, was it not the same Teta who come out telling people that there is a mother of corruption involving the first family. Mwanawasa Jr should form a party and use his father’s name which is still fresh in the minds of many Zambians, to win the 2011 elections. I bet he can get sympathy votes better than Sata / HH/ RB combined. It would probably be the biggest political upset in Zambia today. This is the best legacy Mwanawasa Jr can do for his father and for himself. Zambia needs a generational change of politicians and this young man can be the one to change the face of Zambian politics. If he stood against the top three Sata/HH/RB, he would come out clean and blameless while all three would find it hard to convince people to vote for them because of their questionable pasts. I would strongly urge Mwanawasa jr to go for the 2011 elections. Political funding will be available!! Is he man enough for this?kaya!
The first thing that mwanawasa jr should do is, challenge Sata/HH and RB to a televised 100 meter sprint. The purpose is to demonstrate his youthfulness. The second thing he should urge is all the three (HH.Sata.RB) to be probed for corruption and see who will come out clean. Chances are all three will emerge with nasty records which will further damage their reputations. He should then use his father’s name to organise funding through calculated media appearances, he is more likely to get both local and international media attention which would be enough to get him noticed. Utilising his father’s presidential links will only strengthen him and by the time 2011 comes, he will just walk into state house. This is possible, it can happen if the young man wants to make things happen!

Leave the young man alone. WTF, in Zambia cant anyone speak their opinion. What happened to freedom of expression? You go boy, if your family was not consulted according to you, say it. That Aunty of yours is leaving in the past. We need fresh ideas and youthfulness in our land.
#111, I must say, the issue of age is an obstacle but it can be overcome. First thing is first, the young man must begin to campaign (through NCC or other ways) to have the constitution changed so that Zambia should not set a minimum age limit for Presidential candidates. If we don’t have an upper (maximum) age limit why should there be a minimum age limit? It does not make sense. It should be a free for all matter for all eligible Zambian Citizens and at the end of it all the winner should beemerge or selected. I don’t see what is so special about the age 35. If we are changing the constitution, I believe this issue needs to be looked at because it does not make sense.
Is this a political dynasty? Are there no other Zambians who can serve in these positions? We will not be surprised if we learn that RBB is grooming one of his children to take over when he retires in 2021.
Presidency is not an inheritance-
The only President who ever did anything for the people of Zambia is Dr. Kenneth Kaunda. Yes, he made some mistakes but Kaunda’s vision was for the betterment of Zambia.
