You are safe-Liato assures nurses

Share

Labour minister Austin Liato has assured nurses wishing to go back to work that they will be protected from harassment from picketers.

Mr. Liato has also appealed to union leaders in the health sector to encourage the nurses to return to work so their concerns can be addressed as promised by President Rupiah Banda.

Mr. Liato said by asking nurses to return for work, government is not intimidating them but only demanding the right procedure to be followed.

He said government cannot address the demands of the nurses while the workers are on strike.

Mr. Liato said the nation needs nurses to return to work and help those seeking medical attention.

Government has given the striking health workers up to Monday to report for work or be fired.

The Nurses who have been on strike for over three weeks are demanding for a rise in uniform, night and risk allowances among other things.

  1. Just pay them you insensitive Government. You are such a disappointment mwebuteko… Can’t you see that you are fighting a losing battle??????

RB, where are you with your promissory notes? Just slash off your ministers’ allowances to mitigate the current scenario!

  2. Nurses don’t be intimidated. Firing you will cost the RB( Rubbish Banda) more than you are requesting from them!!!

  3. Sure a lasting solution is needed,But the only way out now GRZ is to pay these medical officers, no one wanted to listen when they started on a go slow.
Health officers we are with you, let GRZ pay you first what you want and then you can go for work smiling too.

  4. Thats why we shall never rise as a nation. how can workers perform best when they are busy worrying about how they’ll pay the next rentals, or how much they wish they cud eat chicken for dinner for a change but cant coz they have to pay for …..abc….. and look after relatives etc.
these workers shud maintain their stance, mmd cant fire them all

  5. Ever asked ourselves why the opposition in Africa always align it self with anarchy?

  6. I will be one of the pipo who will be very disappointed when nurses go back to work without their demands being met.

  7. #11 Chapwa thats interesting reasoning…..you mean print money the way Mugabe did? You don’t just print money dear that will cause inflation.

  8. Hon Austin Liato, there is need to engage in constructive discussions with the striking healtj workers so that their demands are somehow met. The situation is bad in the health institutions especially in Urban areas. Pipo are dying coz there is no one to attend to them. The GRZ should swallow its pride and own up. I thought Liato with his union background was better placed to negotiate but he is proved to be a disaster.
