The Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD) has

described as shocking the resignation of Defence Minister, George Mpombo.

Party Secretary General, Katele Kalumba, said the resignation of Mr Mpombo comes as a great shock to the party, especially that he was a senior member of the party and a minister.

He said Mr Mpombo holds a very important position in the country as a Defence Minister, adding that he should have followed a laid down procedure before he could announce his resignation.

Dr Kalumba told ZANIS in an interview yesterday that he expected Mr Mpombo to consult with the party before he could take such a bold decision.

Dr Kalumba said being a NEC member and elected by majority at the party convention, the former minister knows that it is difficulty for a person to relinquish a position unless under difficult circumstances.

He, however, welcomed the resignation of Mr Mpombo, who is also Kafulafuta Member of Parliament and MMD chairman for energy.

Dr Kalumba said Mr Mpombo’s resignation was a big blow to the party as the man stood for democracy.

He further wished the minister good luck in his new endeavors and hoped that he will remain a committed member of the party.

He has, meanwhile, called on all party members in the country not to panic, adding that the party will soon recover from the loss of the minister.

Dr Kalumba said MMD as a party has in the past lost important members but has quickly recovered from such.

He has further urged MMD members to stop politicking on who stands for elections in 2011, but concentrate on developing the country.

  2. A person must do what their heart tells them to do. Political leaders must do things dictated to them by their parties but based on their personal beliefs. For the first time, Mpombo is right. For the uptenth time, Katele is wrong!

  3. Katele is still big time aight? How long is it gonna take for Zambia to yet have some clean concious leadership?I foresee thefalling of once a mega party that stood for politricks and not politics.Still much to come……………

  7. Katele please just keep quiet, Mpombo know that there is no more democracy in the party and wouldn’t want to be part of the falling team in 2011. Cheers Mpombo, well I never expected such from you but this time I can give you five.

  8. Mwayamba ko. After being retrieved from an anthill ba Katele now you want to tell people what is right. Uzangena naiwe

  9. am lost pipo help me i do not really know what this man called katele is talikng about – procedure . i thot the defense minister resigned citing personal rreasons

  10. I agree with number 1. Who the **** does Katele think he is? Why this pre-occupation with procedure. Katele is deluded if he thinks he has any legal or moral right to tell people (other than his Children) when to express their views. The man has no integrity and is of questionable character.

  11. You follow procedure and its announced that you’ve been fired!Mpombo did the right thing, regardless of his reasons for doing so

  12. To Mpombo I say thare is a time for everything.Your time to end service in the government has come. How I wish all of them would resign so as to pave way for young and fresh ideas. we really need change in the government.
On second thougt what really would have prompted Mpombo to resign when his boss was busy with other visiting heads of state? can some one fill us in?

  13. #1: You are on your own if you hate Katele Zuma. “Pipo Chi Mpombo chachabe chali pa BBC as news. Chikali mulechitina. Temyemfufye chakwata – chachabe!!”

  14. what procedure iwe…just coz you ve no morality even after facing charges of corruption…you want to hang on to power…George did the right thing…congrats Mpombo………

  15. Thumbs up Mpombo for taking the bold decision. Whether you have resigned on immoral or moral grounds, we are yet to discover.

  16. Big up to you sir Ba Mpombo, so the ukufukama at Levy’s feet was’nt mahala, you know how to eat ubwalibwambusa, kanshi uluwamano.

  17. What proceedure? Ndiye kufunta uku manje. When being appointed, kwenze proceedure? Mwandi Mpombo. go the farm and lima kandolo.

  18. Katele mfwiti knows no procedure – he is an i.d.o.t. takwaba. Mpombo knows something these mfwitis don’t know. Wait and see.

  19. Katele also! I thought his group is the same people who says its the prerogative … to appoint and to disappoint! For them its better to be fired than resign?

  20. Manje Changwe vi powder ku menso! Even leaning towards Katele! Tewakwangasha uyo ka. uzatamba ceiling! Nizako.

  21. Its amazing what monkey baptism can do. i really have nothing much to say except that the strength of a river’s current cannot me measured from the surface. truth will unfold

  22. yayaya big man, its time you left for your farm. How I wish these other old people could learn. I only hope the ABSA scam does not fetch you behind bananas! Best.

  23. KATELE IS JUST DISSAPPOINTED THAT EVEN IN MMD THERE MEN (UNLIKE HIM) OF INTEGRITY. KK SHOULD HAVE STEPPED ASIDE UNTIL ALL CASES AGAINST HIM ARE OVER. BUT HE HAS STAYED ON. NINSONI OMFWILE TO SEE SOME ONE LEAVE SUCH NICE POSITION. MAESTRO COMMENT BRIEFLY

  24. Ithink these monkeys need to be honoured. AWARD FOR BEST STUNT GOES TO…………..Kolwe Kanitundila! AWARD FOR BEST DRAMATIC PERFORMANCE BY A NON HUMAN, GOES TO………………Kolwe Kamusunka!

  25. He is the first minister to resign, kindly give him thumps up. I hope he will keep his word becos others did the same but went back to the system. Remember VJ did the same but poverty made reverse his word. Let us wait and see where the sun sets

  26. Mpombo has done the right thing to resign. It takes a princpled man to do what he did. There surely no democracy in the MMD the man does not want to be part of misguided pipo like Mike Mulongoti , Teta Mashimba and many others. Alot of are yet to quit

  27. Please Solwezi Mabanga # 33. Do not mention that man’s name ever again. I always puke when his name is mentioned due to to filth during elections.

  28. i still cant believe that the chief bootlicker has resigned….. how… i smell rat, infact 5 rats in his case, i know 3,but some one should help with the other 2! there is story about Mpombo, circulating on the internet.

  29. the make-up of the lady….doesnt it somehow show that we dont simply appreciate the fact that God made us beautiful??? am not against make-up…but this on the picture is too much……i leave it to ladies as am not a make-up specialist.

  30. I think Mpombo’s presidential aspiration’s were frustrated when Teta announced that the presindency is not be challenged at the MMD convention. Or he got what the sun hotel monkey was trying to commmunicate to him,unlike………………..

  31. mpombo shud have resigned way back when there was that fuel crisis.i dont knw what tok u long bwana minister.

  32. May God bless the monkeys of Zambia. We are really humbled that these beasts have heard the cry of Zambians and they are in full swing to fight for Zambians. Who thought great bootlicker Mpombo could resign? This is after wrestling with the L/stone monkey. Hee, I cant believe that monkeys are more wiser than people as they came up with a very funny strategy to wrestle with these selfish people. Monkyes may your days be multiplied in Zambia especially as we near elections.

  33. Dr Katele Kalumba should admire Mpombo instead of critising him. KK has held on to his MMD position inspite of the serious cases against him and may be thats is the reason why he is disappointed by Mpombo’s move. It means KK stands alone as a contaminated element in the echlons of his party MMD. LONG LIVE MPOMBO”S ACTION

  34. #43 KAMBONGOLO, I DO AGREE THAT THE MONKEYS ARE WISER THAN PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO MAKE CONCLUSIONS WITHOUT RESEARCHING THE REASONS FOR MPOMBO’S RESIGNATION..

  35. icikalipa cimfwo mwine, uupamfiwe uulwa ne cibi. pls leave gm alone. he is just excersing his rights. lundenipo ifyashala.

  36. Mr Mpombo has made the right move. The MMD should be ashamed of drawing the country towards Wamuyaya type of leaderships. RB should be challenge for the 2011 MMD candidancy . Zambia should take leaf from the happenings in Hondulas just over a week ago when the president tried to hijack the constitution.

  37. Pandemonium # 37, my dear this african politics at its large. i know you hate the guy but accept the old man has resigned with respect if he will keep his word. i rest my story

  38. Katele should resign on moral grounds. He should first clean his name in the criminal cases b4 the courts. Government should be run by the ruling party and oppositions equal holding ministerial jobs.. It is unwise to see that the ruling party take all ministerial position and appoint. even unqualified people to hold top offices. Stop left handed ministers.

  39. Katele dont corrupt Mpombo. Lets hope he’s set a good example for everybody to follow suit. Bravo Mpompo. Mind you MMD has outlived its usefulness. We dont want onother UNIP era. Its true there no credible people in MMD any more. Lets pray hard that God gives Zambia a credible leader in 2011. The current one has no backbone of his own. He is being used by bootlickers. zambia is surviving by the Grace of God. There is simply no leadership in the Nation. It will be wise to call for early elections before its too late. Easterners, I urge and beg you to vote wisely this time.

  40. Katele is too intelegent for MMD. Teta and others and others have failed to read his mind. MMD supported RB’s candidature in order to reorganise the party for 2011. But the way things are going I think Katele and others will join the Pact and leave Teta and Mulongoti + RB to ruin the economy. I dont think there will be any thing left in the government coffers by 2011. The new Ruling party will definitely start from scratches as it happened in 1991.

  41. Zambian politics are a disgrace. Zambian politicians get away with so much BS. As far as I’m concerned all the Zambians in active politics are not trustworthy.

  42. Ba George Mpompo … great. You are the true child son of the soil. I wish RB could one shock shock he nation by resigning…

  43. America will not seek to impose any system of government on any other nation — the essential truth of democracy is that each nation determines its own destiny. What we will do is increase assistance for responsible individuals and institutions, with a focus on supporting good governance — on parliaments, which check abuses of power and ensure that opposition voices are heard; on the rule of law, which ensures the equal administration of justice; on civic participation, so that young people get involved; and on concrete solutions to corruption like forensic accounting, automating services, strengthening hot lines and protecting whistle-blowers to advance transparency and accountability.

In Zambia there is no governance and rampant corruption.

  44. Mr Katele, there is no procedure to follow if you want to resign. If you feel you are not happy with the party’s policies, you have the right to step down. Why should someone come to ask for advise from you. In zambia ministers do not resign because they do not save the people instead they enrich themselves, for them its a full time job.

  45. MPOMBO HAS SEEN THE ROT IN MMD,HE QUIT!WHAT PART OF RESIGNATION DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND YOU DIMWIT?WHO DO SERVE MR KATELE?YOURSELF OR THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA?WHEN CRAP SMELLS YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES YOU EITHER MOVE AWAY OR COVER YOUR NOISE,HE MADE A DECISION TO MOVE TO A CLEAN PLACE TO CLEAR HIS MIND…
