Government says it is aware of the various operational problems that both the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) and Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) are facing.
Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, Ronnie Shikapwasha says it is for this reason that government will consider increasing funding to the two institutions so that they operate effectively.
Lt Gen. Shikapwasha who is also chief government spokesperson, said this after touring Joy Fm radio, Times of Zambia and ZANIS premises yesterday.
He said that he was impressed with the equipment at ZANIS and government will look into possibilities of assisting the institution as is the trend with other countries where government news agencies are funded.
Lt Gen. Shikapwasha however said the equipment should be taken care of by the employees adding that they should not misuse it.
Earlier,ZANIS Director Gilbert Maimbo said the institution is facing a lot of operational challenges in executing its mandate.
Mr. Maimbo said the development has made it difficult for the institution to propagate government’s programmes and policies.
He has since appealed to government to assist the institution with resources in order for it to operate effectively.
ZANIS
Hoping for the better….
Where do our TV fees go?
Tv fees seems are being abused! Bedsides, you have made ZNBC the mouth piece of every ruling party! Personally, I want the station to understand my viewng needs and not show me Shikapwasha, Teta and Rupiah every time! I am sick and tired of you ZNBC. The more you are funded, the more you cover only the politicians! How I wish you can just CLOSE UP (defunct)!!!!
More funding, more plundering, what a waste of money.Actually, just the TV license fees an boost operations there.Even more air time given to corporates to showcase their programmes can generate more revenue for this ZNBC.But in this case, its Mulongoto,Tete,BR and so forth, how do you develope kanshi?
Emulate SABC!!!
Or is it that they want to equip ZANIS because the elections are looming?
Tshombe is very right. The fact that ZNBC itself is happy to receive funding from government is worrying for citizens because it means staff dont know that they are supposed to be free from government control. Journalists at this organisation wont fight for their freedom if they know that the government which is actually the ruling MMD funds them. Thats why you find journalists bootlicking politicians. ZNBC should not be funded by government because it is not supposed to be a government propaganda wing like ZANIS
What about the actions in regard to the audit report?? did that story die just like that??
What has happened to sense of shame? ZNBC sure is so shameless,Henry Ngilazi cant learn from his wife Kabwela Chansa what is newsworth him news news editor @ ZNBC.
Lord Have Mercy!
Ba Shikapwasha, is this the conclusion you’ve come to after studying the ZNBC K6b scam?
What are all these audits and reports for then, if at the end of the day it’s business as usual?
That report contained gross theft, corruption and mismanagement at its highest!
Just read this again – ZNBC K6b scam; pay and it shall be stolen
ZNBC is a shame to the people of Zambia. We pay TV fees just to View Politicians Like RB ,Teta,Mulog,Shika etc for what. Ask the People how many watch ZNBC just a 1/4 because of what you broadcast. Most people have gone to Free to air Channels and DSTV. We ever fail to watch our own ZNBC when visitors come to our Homes. You are even pressing charges on the post editor that a mother giving birth is Porno.Watch other channels you will see what is porno. Please no increased Funding to these two because it will perfome worser than this current performance. Please channel the Funds to NURSES AND TEACHERS AND POLICE FORCE SALARIES. We are sick of you People.
The time they spend on Teta & Co could well be speent on adverts which can bring more money
Even if they do so, ZNBC will always broadcast poor programs with poor picture and sound quality. ZNBC has to go Digital or even beter HD (as if it will ever happen).
I have heard the story of numerous ministers being “impressed by the equipment” by the equipment at ZANIS nearly every year. They then leave and dont do anything about this. May be you should privatise ZANIS because it is just a money drain. The donors should not allow their money to be misused like this!
