Chief Mwanachingwala of Mazabuka has differed with school authorities at Konkola High School following the alleged expulsion of his 18 year grade 11 pupil daughter he has planned to marry off to a named teacher at a basic school.
The Chief told ZANIS in Mazabuka yesterday that he has no regrets for taking such a decision because his daughter is ripe for marriage.
He charged that both education and school authorities have no moral right to cancel a wedding ceremony that has been set for 30 August,2009.[quote]
Chief Mwanachingwala said the wedding would be graced by the Catholic church clergy at Chikuni Mission in Monze District.
The Chief questioned why school authorities decided to expell the girl before the wedding took place.
He challenged the education and school authorities to interpret what the new policy on girl child education states in regard to girls who become pregnant while at school.
” This is nonsense, my daughter is not pregnant and the wedding does not mean she will be staying with her new husband who is equally a teacher. The education policy encourages girls who become pregnant to continue with school after delivering,” said Chief Mwanachingwala.
Chief Mwanachingwala further said he had officially invited Mazabuka District Commissioner, Tyson Hamaamba to be the guest of honour at the wedding.
Mazabuka District Education Board Secretary, Darius Kaluba refused to comment on the matter, saying he could only do so at an appropriate time.
ZANIS
What nonsense coming from Maestro s chief. When did the law start allowing Teachers to marry pupils. Both this Teacher and his demented Father in law chief should be arrested
At the time i met this man , i knew something was wrong with him, he is psychopath who is still living in the stone age era.
Really what nonsense is this coming from a chief. Why the rush? Surely the law encourages girls that fall pregnant while at school to go back. Two things are wrong here. 1. The law does not allow teachers to go out with pupils period. 2. If the law allows after preganacy does it allow deliberate marriages to be arranged whilst at sch? I shudder to imagine even the morality of the catholic priests marrying these chaps. Please God help us. As for Mwanachingwala, let him have his brains checked to determine whether he is fit to be a chief.
This isn’t right. What kind of precedence are you trying to set? Teachers marrying their pupils. I thought its not allowed for teachers to date their pupils. Why can’t u wait 360 days for your daughter to finish sch and then do whateva u want with ur daughter. This pupil must be expelled from sch and the teacher should be expelled as well. Shame on u chief, I think it’s time zambia gets read of these shameless money mongers beings in the name of chief. They are all a disgrace and they no longer save any purpose in today’s Zambia. I rest my case!
I need to go and get an offer from this chief.
The duagter is RIPE this a joke of the day from the chief. What about his subjects? Nothing is reported while they happen.
No comment. Too shameful.
Hello Chief, mind if I get your other daughter, younger than this one you marrying off? I ripe too.
imfumu naipena.
Mango nayipya, amasuku nayapya, mwanafumu napya. Kuti fyalablola so never delay.
Is he realy a Chief or an Induna?? Not even an Induna can come up with such a decission!!
For those of us who went to school in Southern Province, one of the things you accepted in Tongaland was the amount of weed grown in cattle kraals, and its potency. So this chief must be taking too much of it and it is making him hallucinate. How can a daughter be ripe? is she a fruit? and how do you encourage marriage between a pupil and a teacher. Ba chief please reduce on your weed uptake, your eyes will be opened and all will be fine.
KsamaWeed is good do not
This Chief is so 2000 and late, does he know that we are in 2009. The is already pregnant, that s why the chief want them to get married.
A girlchild is in trouble. But the traditional leader has gone crazy ,what is the rush all about, how much lobola has this teacher paid to the chief. My advice is, let the girl complete school mr.chief you will even recieve double salary. The teacher you forcing to marry your dota is already having other girlfriend teacher what will happen to your dota without cv.?
This is what we we call Express marriage, why Chief plz. aaaaah.
Lubanjee!!! Too much of it chief
Kasama boy Weed iz good when taken relatively. Gomola (well processed weed/tombwe)is infact the best. This man is just a joker.
Is the Chief saying that just because you are a teacher, you can marry your pupil, guys think about changing your careers now. There are some benefits being a teacher.
#17 Elephant Ndholvu, Easy on the weed, you will soon become a teacher, or are you already one.
Chief Mwanachingwala, you can’t have it both ways, choose between school and marriage period!!
She is supposed to be in grade 12 at 18years…….Obvously the chief has already used the lobola money.
shame on you chief…

This is a difficult case. while the law does not allow teachers to go out with school pupils, without a pregnancy there would be no evidence to suggest that the teacher is going out with the girl. What the teacher has declared is intention to marry and the law is silent on this score. Our law further allows married people to go to school meaning that after the wedding on the 30th the headmaster will have no reason to expel her. The case even becomes more complicated with the fact that this girl is above 16yrs. at 18yrs no one can curtail her freedom of Choice and association including that of concential sex and marriage.
KA FWAFWA IYO! ANOTHER JOKER
#11 Kasama Boy.
Thats very funny. If the chief is weeding, how much more the subjects?
In Afghanistan, they grow a lot of cocaine raw material. Look at the Talibans. When the chaps smoke, they see American bullets like flies flying around. Dobo!!
What is the teacher son in law saying about all this? Cant he wait? Let him take a cold shower, or something.
Come on bloggers all of you are aganist this marrige why, There is obsolutely nothing wrong with the girl getting married and staying at school, who ever expelled this girl should be sued and I shall help in the legal cost. Marrige is hard to come by this days and when a parent finds a good suitor for his daughter he should go ahead, equally no one should be denied schooling becuase she is married, Viva chief go ahead and marry off your daughter. you miss this man you might not find another, as for the Head teacher, reinstate the girl pronto.
# 19 BaHoney Am already teaching but my worry is to marry mpali. On weed shakaleke, I enjoy weed than white fwaka. It make concetrateon my job -teaching (maths and physics). If it made legal Iwould be happy. I Teta is my friend no beer as long weed is available but bcoz politics I do avoid him.
Lets not forget that the teacher could even be almost the same age as the girl i.e 20yrs old.
#23. YOU ARE RIGHT.Obviously she is a very pretty tonga girl. The graduate teacher cannot wait for a second to have her in his arms. The chief is civilised because he understands the rights of a human being. The right to form and have a family, right to education, etc.
Kasama Boy. The Chief”s actions are very correct, and please don’t attribute his action to the weed, infact he is a very senseable and reposible parent than you. he thinks about the future of his daugter vey much thats why he would like to keep her in school at all cost.
This chief wants to ruin the future for the girlchild, one wonders whether that is his real daughter. He should know that there is more to the life of this poor girl than marrying a poor teacher, you know how much teachers are suffering in zambia. Or the teacher wants to get wealth from the chief. Sad story.

Marriage will certainly increase the responsibility the girl has. This is likely to distract her studies. She will have a home to run, having to think about what the husbad is eating that day, his clothes, and all his well being. She will be a wife, it’s only normal for a wife to care for her home and husband. Right now she is free of all that.
If all our school girls married, we will see a deterioration in exam results. Girls will be busy thinking about their spouses and homes. it’s bad enough when a school girl falls in love. What more marriage.
This chief is her father. What type of fatherhood is this. Is this the best he can think for his daughter.
# 31, This is a very reposible Chief, he is securing the future of his daughter both in school and marrige. In rural Zambia, teachers don’t suffer like the teachers in urban areas, he get rural hardship, he has a Maize field, life is so simple such that these guys can go on without touching there salaries for month on ends.

The Chief has said that the weeding does not mean she will be staying with the teacher, so what resposibilities and distruction are you talking about. Infact armed with the knowledge that she will be running a family, she has no choice but to work extra hard for the benefit of her upcomining family.
I think the girl is pregnant and that is the reason why they are rushing into marrige. The fact could be, the teacher approached the Chief to say let me marry your daughter before the School Authority get to know the development of the pregnancy and protect his Job. In the same vain someone knew about this move hence he or she decided to expel the said pupil!
THUNDERBOLT *33 I still feel the chief is iresponsible, cos an educated child will have more chioces in life other than sticking to this teacher who may even mistreat her when he sees another beter pupil. Mind you the father is only interested in the child getting married cos once she completes grade 12 she will be a proper housewife, marriege is not everything.
The Chief like every one else knows that education is not only up to grade 12 these days, so I bet you, him together with the husband would like to see her as a Teacher or a nurse. by the way the teacher is from a basic school she is at a high school so not at the same school.
Following Mwachingwala’s “This is nonsense, my daughter is not pregnant and the wedding does not mean she will be staying with her new husband who is equally a teacher…” then why marry her off if she won’t stay with the husband? Why expose her to ntwenu as if she won’t have sex? Why not wait until school is over, what is the impatience about? Why do something wrong all because there does not seem to be a clear policy – the moral aspect should apply. You don’t create a crisis to make law. Mwanachingwala IS FOOLISH and no need to condone his nonsense. He wants political attention over the matter. RB will fail to discipline him because the price will be withdraw of political support.
Rubbish! This chief is the most useless to be had in Southern Province.
Iam concerned about this girls future, why not wait until she finishes her education , then she can marry her teacher. If the teacher is serious he will wait for her.
If the teacher and girl are not at the same school, there is no law that will prohibit this marriage. The chief is right. Why should she be expelled for getting married? Is this the official policy? Our laws allow marriage at 16. Do not demonise the guy. She is 18 for chrissake! If you are not happy with the law, petition your MP to have it changed. We like using emotions instead of facts
This chief has no brains for real. each color ca kwe. The girl is pregnant hennce the rush. He must have already eaten lobola plus a few other gifts. Nonsense.
CANT THE SCHOOL EXPEL THE TEACHER ALSO.
zambians why are you so negative about certain events taking place in other people’s lives? Look, there are so many girls who are sleeping with boys or so called men and I believe that it is wrong. but the chief is speaking about marriage not fornication. he wants his daughter to get married, enter some form of serious commitment. however he also wants his daughter to go to school so that she can be more responsible for herself and life giving to her family. I do not see anything wrong. some of you have got girl friends who are still going to school, but the chief is encouraging his daughter to enter a serious commitment; he is a responsible parent. Please comment….
Who on this blog would marry your daughter in this way? Put your hand up.
# Political Being
When that husband teacher starts having sex with his wife, he will turn into a beast. He will want her so often that she will have to go home at least every weekend. Even the chief knows that when a man is aroused, that’s it, game over.
Why not nkobekela fye, ie engage. If that teacher cant wait a year, something is wrong with him.
This is a good litmus test for Dora
1. What is the code of ethics for Teachers
2. In what circumstance can a Teacher officially marry a pupil
3. Why should parents mix pupils in class if it is illegal for pupils to marry
4. Should we draw a new code of ethics for both teachers and pupils
5. Should we have an age limit for school going pupils
6. Should we create schools were sexual feelings of a pupil are not suppressed
7. Whats the role of a parent if the pupil meets all the requirements of marriage according to the traditional culture and laws of Zambia
If he was my father i could be hidding my face each time i go out he is a shamful man He need to be checked at chainama
#34 Thunderbolt
It’s possible that the girls is already distracted. With all this going on, I wonder if she’s concentrating on her studies. May be she’s even working details of her wedding – the guest list, the food, the dress, the bridal party, the reheasals, the matron, the cake, the honeymoon, those loving eyes in the head of that teacher, his romantic words, the father giving her away, etc.
Now throw mathematics and science in there. Oh Finish!
She’s gone already. Check her end of term exam results.
# 49 UK – ZED
School authorities are the ones bringing distrations to the girl by expelling her. One, why expel her? two,on what grounds did they place the expulsion on, she is not yet even married.Three, there is no law which stops a girl above 16 getting married weather in school or not. Infact most of the girls in Zambian school now are already married. The fact that the Chief wants his duagter to continue with school is a big plus for the old man. Chief let no one stop you. the School autority have no rights to expel her.
# 49, In rural Zambia, she does not need to take part in the weding preparations, hence no distrations
This chief is a pank.
This is in contradictions with other Chiefs fighting early marriages in their Chiefdoms. May be he lost plenty cattle due to denkete and he needs replacements. THIS CHIEF FOR MAESTRO HEHEHEHE IS A BIG FOOL. Im lozi KING ELUTE wena.
There are alot of fun things happening in Tongaland. The Chief needs help on this matter GRZ policy moms going back to sch after giving birth is only applicable where the girl gets pregnant whilst in sch. In this case the Chief is talking of marrying off a daughter whois still in school. That guy should wait for her complete. Expulsion for the girl is right action coz such conduct by the chief will encourage other parents to follow suit. By inviting DC Tyson Haamanba to grace the weeding, that is putting GRZ in quire posistion. Can the appropriate GRZ wings move and arrest the Chief. What special thing does the Chief want to achieve. May be its JUJU. GRZ is busy promoting girl child education and Chief is doing the opposite. May NGOs move and adopt the girl until she completes grade 12.
Guys, Chainama is not all that full, at least one can be accomodated. What do you think?
This teacher is alraedy having sex with this girl. I would not be surprised if she was expelled as result of having sex or fondling with this same teacher within the school vicinity withstanding the fact that she was the chiefs daughter. i mean the school administration would not have been foolish enough to make such a drastic decision. As for the chief, to avoid such embarrasment, he just has to go for the idea of marriage for the daughter……….
ba chief,if you want your daughter to go 4 education, let her go 4 it,then if you want her 2 go 4 marriage, then let her go 4 marriage, 4 she cant save two musters at once, but one thing is 4 sure is,if ba chief u think marriage is good without education, then your daughter wil reap the coast of ingnorant.
The Chief has errored. He is asking about the policy on pregnant students but what he is forgetting is that there’s also another policy about Teachers sleeping with students. The teacher will be arrested for doing so if the law is applied as it is supposed to be. The chief could be the parent and in consent, but the child has protection from the department of social services if the parents are not executing their parental authority in a sane manner. So, Mr Teacher, beware there are laws that protect students as long as they are in your school and in your care as a teacher. You can take advantage of the confused parent in this case Chief Mwanachingwala, but remember the chief is not the only stakeholder in student affairs. If this is allowed, it can lead into a very serious problem pa Zed.
problem is that most people have been conditioned to think education is key to everything… let the chief marry her daughter if that is what the daughter wants. you can’t argue, you dodn’t live in their village. even if she got educated, it may be useless in her life in the end… marriage may actually maybe more fulfiling to in her life. Men, do not be hypocrites: some of you where married while in bording school.
Bana donka mwana baTeacher nikale. Mwana mutonto shuwa….maloza aya manje so!
I am a Tonga I grew up there. I can assure you the Chief BANAMUDYESA KULI TEACHER. Ask him how many heads of Cattle he has received from the teacher. 4,6 or 12. Ba MWAMI let your Child go to School first Ngati ASILIZA she might end up buying you a HAMMER ka. If you are playing because of envying the educated AZAKA CHAYA ZA Mrs. Kapoko. Forge a grade 12 Certificate. Husband and School are two near imposible combination. MWAMI TAKE CARE.
But ba chief balibe nzelu aba sure he aint even ashamed of saying he wants to marry her daughter of to a basic school teacher! Sh*t I can’t even afford to finish this article just the first paragraph sickens me. And they say they want females to be independent, what kinda hore-sh*t is that. Forgive my language y’all, this just makes me sick!
As a teacher, I say FIRE THE TEACHER, FOR BREAKING THE MOE ETHICS/CODE OFCONDUCT/ZAMBIAN LAW.
Then he wont have the income to maintain his wife to be
mama mebo! ba dala aba basondokele pepe! WTF! where is sanity here?
I think we have to get rid of the old guard and encourage all zambians aspire for a better education i.e both male and female. We can’t simply allow an old guard marrying off his daughter because she’s of age. What the hell is of age. In order for zambia to develop we have to first accept that we nid a highly educated society. We nid people to debate about issues constructively. On a personal level I thank my parents very very much for having enabled me to attain a good education. I look back at the days i was in school being taught about the critical path analysis. I sit down and smirk, simple things that cam make one think logically that our young are deprived off. There’s need for the GOV to intervene through the ministry of education and ministry of gender issues.
Matonga kwayi yali chakana, bukuba ni ku ozela. Ki’ngi kunyalisa mwanana asikafeza sikolo? munoswabanga mulatahulu mali mwali pokoto, tuhela mwana afeze sikolo sahaye, bambe ni fakaofi nenikakushapa ka pafa ya kubu, u mulena ya sitani mwa boko, ne nili kuli matonga bana ni ngana kanti ki likuba feel. Wakeup you chief bull.
It is an absolute disgrace that teachers are having any kind of sexual relationship with puplis and that they are not fired for doing so. SO many girls in zambia have their lives turned upside down because a teacher cannot act profesionally in their job and refrain from getting involved sexually with children. They need to keep their penis in their pants and take it out with their wives, adult girlfriends and outside of school time and property. schools are places of learing and when male teachers are prowling the class rooms looking for “ripe”girls to take advantage of, then they are not teaching. AIDS is rampant among teachers in Zambia and they are passing it on to young innocent children, let me ask those teachers are you supporting the offspring of these affairs ? no you are not !
Pardon my ignorance. Is there a law which forbids married people to go to class?
What is wrong in the southern province, do we need to go pray and fast over that place. While we are at it let pray for each province, Bantu bafunta kuZambia.
No. 66 Mubita’s Comments deserve a translation:
So, I will be brief as Lozi tends to be a packed language. Mubita says that Chief Mwanachingwala needs to wake up from his drunken stupor. Whatever hallucinogens he is purported to be taking need jolting with some high voltage prong if not cattle branding iron. The chief’s short term need of getting rid of the immediate problem by manipulating words to meet the current situation does not solve the perpetual problem of Married teachers killing the dream of many families by impregnating girls who they throw by the wayside left to fend for themselves and the baby. Disease and hunger takes the better of both victims. It is these poor girls who are vulnerable to be preyed upon by the figures of authority (Teachers) who should be held…
I hope this Chief will ask VJ for the reason the once invincible Tonga bull is now a shadow of himself. There is more to life that S E X and marriage and once would have thought after so many people have died in this province because of stinking promiscuity, they will learn to avoid such pathetic behaviour but alas, the chiefs are the one in the forefront of encouraging under age promiscuity. Tonga are trully wedded to promiscuity, mwatusabily imyebo basuntwe.
