Chief Government Spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha has challenged Catholic Diocese of Ndola Treasurer- General Augustine Mwewa to produce evidence that President Banda was involved in the judgment in which Dr Chiluba was acquitted of corruption charges.

He said this in an interview in Lusaka yesterday in response to claims from some sections of the public that the acquittal of Dr Chiluba was political.

Father Mwewa was quoted in The Post newspaper of yesterday as saying that President Banda was insulting Zambians by thanking them for having accepted Dr Chiluba’s acquittal when he had a big influence on the court’s judgement.

Lieutenant-General Shikapwasha said it is sad that a man of God had resorted to lying on the matter, adding that President Banda has nothing to do with the acquittal of Dr Chiluba.

“Whatever decisions the courts make, the President does not have any influence and so it is only necessary for Fr Mwewa to show his integrity as a man of God by showing evidence to all the Zambians on how the Head of State got involved in the judgement.[quote]

“Rather, it is Fr Mwewa who is lying on the matter, and this is not good for a man of God. Maybe people misinterpreted the President’s remarks when he said it was good that the case had finally ended because, like many other Zambians, he felt that the case had dragged on for seven years. It was good that the judgment had finally been made,” he said.

Lt-Gen Shikapwasha, who is Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, said Zambians should speak with facts, adding that this is the only way the country can move forward and develop.

He said people should believe and move with the truth all the time as opposed to commenting on anything which comes their way.

Lt-Gen Shikapwasha advised all Zambians to read and study the judgment made by the court in Dr Chiluba’s case and desist from making unsupported statements against President Banda.

And MMD youths on the Copperbelt have condemned Fr Mwewa for insinuating that President Banda had influence on the outcome of former President Frederick Chiluba’s corruption case.

MMD provincial youth chairman Evans Chibanda said in a statement issued in Ndola yesterday that there is need for men of God to respect the court’s decision involving Dr Chiluba’s corruption cases.

“As MMD youths, we want to condemn Father Mwewa, he must learn to respect the verdict of the courts because this country is governed by law. It is such men of God that want to portray a bad picture about the President unnecessarily,” Mr Chibanda said.

He said Fr Mwewa’s comments should not be entertained because they are aimed at inciting Zambians to rise against the court judgment.

Mr Chibanda said youths on the Copperbelt will not entertain such comments from the clergy who are supposed to promote peace and reconciliation in the country.

He said Zambians have accepted the verdict in Dr Chiluba’s case and that it was up to the government to appeal against the decision of the court or not.

“Our worry is that even young priests are issuing political statements instead of promoting peace and unity in the country. Let them desist from issuing such comments because the judiciary is an independent organ of Government which should be respected,” Mr Chibanda said.

  1. Ala ..you mean this SHIKIPwAAASHAYA is the only one who does not know that RB had influenced this case? What kind of minister of information are you. Try to read blogs to get a sense of what Zambians are saying ..not just listening to your house servants and RB’s house servants. Where did you guys get the data that Zambians are happy? When did you conduct this survey and how many people where in that sample. I hope you did not do the survey in at MMD HQ

  2. As George Bush said ‘fool me once shame on you, a fool cant get fooled again’ anyway never mind its foolish for RB to think the Zambian people thanked the court for finding Chiluba innocent let him have walk around the country and hear for himself what the people think. We just dont wont to argue with you as the saying goes ‘don’t argue with a fool people will fail to notice the difference’ so we are patiently waiting to get rid of you Sir in about 25 months time.

  3. If there was a time when Zambians were unhappy it is now. We are the most unhappy nation the world over. You may mock man but God cant be mocked and we are people beloging to HIM. On day He will come down, wina azadya mauzhu remember Nebucadisser in the Bible?

  4. 1. A few weeks before judgement, Rupiya was quoted Chiluba was dam a good leader.
    2. In Kabwe while the judgement was being read, he clearly gave a message where it was
clear that Chiluba would be acquited.
    3. Less than 48 hours after the acquital he claimed the verdict was accepted by Zambians
    (which was not true).
Ba Ronnie, use your brains, we are not children.

  5. Strange that a man of the cloth can have more, I am a Christian almost cursed their; sorry, more clout than even LT bloggers. He showed us what is to be done action not only words. Why dies the MMD government thinks it can speak on behalf of everyone. Zambians more so the sheeples or cadres lack simple logic (common sense), thus they speak in defense of the obvious manipulations. We even wonder why Zambia is the thirteenth poorest nation on this blessed planet.

  6. Does any of RB’s advisors or indeed his ministers ever advise the president…im pretty sure there are some sensible MMD members and or MP’s out there who always wonder as to what the president is up to or what bombshell he’s going to drop next, he is such a motor mouth, that he cant even recall what he said a few minutes earlier, who hasnt heard his praises on Chiluba, and people like Shikapwasha just talk coz they cant bite the hand that feeds them, thank God that other lumpen is still recuperating in a South Africa hospital, otherwise we could have been treated to some terrible drivel. God help Zambia, sometimes it hurts to read and contemplate what goes on in ZED

  7. Why did the father say that? It is not helpful for a person of that status to speak on legal matters like that. He is a shepherd who has a flock following him. Those followers may be influenced by his utterances. We all have personal opinions about FTJ’s case but a shepherd should be careful with his words.

  8. do we really need a doctor to tell us that this ugly monster shika is not well…. i dont think so,..i will help out fr mwewa on some ponits that cod be viewd as having inlunced the judge’s decision:1.Chiluba was pronounced a Deamn good president by the head of state shottly b4 his vidict could be delivered(2)Chiluba was made to sit next wit the chief justice at state functions even wen the presudent new that it wod compromise the justice’s stance on the corruption cases of chiluba.(3)chiluba vigourisly compigned for RB in last by elections as opposed to the way he opposed levy’s campaign, that surlly intells that RB promised to let go of chiluba’s cases once elected…there so much we cod write to pump some knowledge in that empty head of a reverand….

  9. These verdicts are affecting my concious pa mwamba ya pwanya nachizungu hahahaha. Shikapwashya Iva nozzle must be inhaling everything Nama inert gases, no wonder the man sees every thing like neon lights. Things appear clean and nice just like Las Vegas at night, in the light of day the nasty is shocking. What do we need to do to atleast one day get decent leaders before the rapture or the years of tribulation that follow.

  10. PEOPLE ON THIS BLOG ARE SAD I FEEL SORRY FOR ALL OF YOU UKWALOLAMWE….. AND SURE SOME OF YOU IF YOU READ THE OTHER ARTICLE THAT WAS IN THE TELEGRAPH IN THE UK ABOUT THE CHILUBA CASE YOU WILL CHANGE YOUR MINDS. BY THE WAY ITS ALSO ON THE POST NEWS PAPER ONLY QUOTED FROM THE SAME PAPER

  11. No#7 Zambian my brother or Sister, I am a born again Christian ( believer of Christ not the fake painting or movie actors we see created by the roman empire) also known as a pente in Zambia. I am a true Nubian, like Southern Egyptians the reals decendants of Pharoahs. This priest is 100 percent correct, we sit back and take what the goverment feeds us like nkuku za Lon; even Christians, Zambians must learn to request what is rightfully ours truth and Justice. Chiluba stole from us, he even made away with another mans wife; we can also hold him accountable for that too. So to say we as Zambians are all happy is like slapping us on our first cheek whenwe already turned the other. Thus naife tiba yashe mbezi ba goverment and their goons ( cadres and politicians ) period.

  12. Stop moaning guys and move with your lives. The “big” man is free just like we all knew would happen. Why mukalikudabwadabwa, muzakadabwilila mpaka mwakota.

  13. But zoona fye, even Ronnie himself nomulumendo Evans Chibanda know that aba kaamba ba B helped me out of this mess but they are trying hard to defend me. This is loyalty countrymen!!

  14. There is nothing wrong Fr. Mwewa commenting on the aquital of Dr. Chiluba. Every citizen is entitled to his own opinion. This calls for Ge. Ronnie to be level headed when responding to citizens comment. If RB has no hand in the judgement so why is he gtting agitated. Let pipo make their own comments both for and against the landmark judgement by Jones Chinyama Chamukamayi. That is how is how pipo react to matters of public interest after all FTJ was Head of State and his actions whilst in office whether positive or negative affected every citizen. By the way any latest on the conditionof Ben Tetamashimba. Mike Mulo is zee what is happening is he also on the line up to a South African clinic for medix. Seeking treatment from our local GRZ Clinics is a nightmare, no drugs long hrs of queing

  15. TO ALL THE SAD BLOGGERS CONCERNING CHILUBA’S ACQUITTAL

Make me understand, we were all crying to take chiluba to court
we did that, we removed his immunity he was tried and the courts have
acquitted him for lack of evidence. So please instead of being angry and throwin insults at everyone who seems to be happy with the courts decision try find some evidence to your claims or leave the man alone and focus on the other important issues rather than attacking personalities
For seven years the man has been living in terror in his own country, no movements he was being monitored like a baby, …………………………what more do you want from him?
I beginning to think you all just have a personal hatred for the man.

  16. Shikapwasha, don’ t think Zambians are dull. Your Banda, first influenced the out come of Siliya’s case by taking that case to a corrupt charge. Within 24 hours after that case, he reappointed Siliya as Minister of Education. You mean you can’t see that Banda is corrupt. Some few weeks ago Banda was busy praising Chiluba that he was a dam good Leader. Just last monday, Chiluba was aquited of his cases. The following day, Banda was busy saying that he is happy that Zambians have accepted Chiluba’s Verdict. You mean, you can’t see that this man influenced the whole thing. Please don’t think Zambian are dull.

  17. This is very true. Fr Mwewa is making a statement without proof. This makes him a liar. God hates lies. Lying is a sin. Fr. Mwewa must provide evidence of his claims. He is defaming the character of the president by spreading lies.

Let him provide proof. We do not need liars in the church. This is hurting the integrity of the Catholic church. Prove your case or shut it Fr Mwewa.

  18. Just because Teta left a void does not mean this chap has to step in. I was beginning to enjoy the silence that had been created from Govt when Teta was admitted, but it seems he transferred the noise disease to someone before being evacuated. The Govt should learn to keep quiet sometimes, especially in the Chiluba cases. We know you support Kafupi but please stop rubbing it in our faces

  19. Zambia! Land of rumour and innuendo. Land of slanderers and back biters. Land of covetous people, boasters, proud, blasphemers (taking the name of God in vain), unthankful, unholy, lacking family love (see how many street kids!), truce breakers, false accusers, hostile to goodness, traitors,… and ‘maintaining an outward form of religion but repudiating its power!’ There is blatant lack of respect for environment, property and persons. Lack of submission to authority and elders. Every man does what is right in HIS/HER own eyes! Throw litter anywhere! Urinate anywhere! Poo anywhere as long as you are not seen! Lie any time as long as you are not caught. Say anything even without the facts! Take anything for yourself! This is ANARCHY and Satanic.

  20. Sata was going to free Chiluba in 2006 if he got into power so why the fuss? That is one of the reasons the Post told me not to vote for PF. How things change!!!!!

  21. RB has gone to the Northern province to tell people there that he released Chiluba to show them that he cares for them.Watch this space.

  22. we all know it is banda that is why he is appointing sakwiba sikota the mat he uses as a mat to stop him from inciting junior ministers to deny chiluba his immunite his mats like mabenga a man who was defence minister to use himas a mat settling a junior minister of lands even the chitalu sampa rejected to used as a mat people like muliokela and magande who can’t be used as mats are fired

  23. Shikapwasha, how can you be so sure that Rupiah had no part in the acquittal of Chiluba? It is disgraceful that an old man and reverend such as you is determined to thrive on bootlicking and falsehoods. You are digusting.

  24. RB betrayed himself when he said that ZAMBIANS HAD WELCOMED THE ACQUITAL OF CHILUBA. This in simple terms means that this action was expected. How did RB communicate with12m Zambians less than one hour after the judgement. Normally all offenders get caught due to carelessness and this is a typical example.

  25. Am sure the judges secretary diary about the judges appointments espcially running before the judgement , last two weeks phone records and judges movements can reveal whether RB had a hand in the trial. The behaviour of the judge on the weekend is

  26. FOR ONCE I AGREE WITH SHIKAPWASHA. I THINK THERE IS NO EVIDENCE. IF WE SAY THERE IS EVIDENCE OF INFLUENCING, THEN FOR LAST EIGHT YEARS, THE CASE WAS CONSTANTLY BEING INFLUENCED. IF LPM WAS HERE, AND NOT AS SITTING PRESIDENT, HE WOULD, IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT FOR HIM TO SAY RB INFLUENCED THE JUDGEMENT. HE WOULD REMEMBER HIS OWN ACTIONS, WORDS, ETC VIS-A-VIS THE CHILUBA CASE. IN ANY CASE, CHILUBA’S CASES CAN NEVER BE SEEN TO BE PROSECUTED JUSTILY, ESP LOOKING AT THE WAY THE CASE PROCEEDED. THOSE COMPLAINING KNOW THAT LPM SAID “I WILL BE HAPPY IF CHILUBA WILL BE FOUND INNOCENT BY THE COURTS, EXCEPT I WANT THE DUE PROCESS OF THE LAW TO TAKE ITS COURSE” SO WHAT HAS CHANGED NOW? WHY ARE THEY SAYING LPM WOULD NOT BE HAPPY? THE REASON IS THAT, THEY KNOW LPM DID NOT MEAN WHAT HE SAID BCOZ OF…

  27. Banda is simply a lunatic. But brethren, shall we sit and just complain in the terraces. We need to take these people head on. We are too docile as Zambians and these baboons have taken us for granted. Even Jesus whiped those that were misbehaving in his father’s house. Lets team up and whip these scandrels.

  28. Evans Chibanda shud shutup. He is one of the beneficialy from the the stella chibandas stealing. Which zambian has acepted the court vedict, only the beneficiaries from the theft can say so. It is a sickening jugdment.

  29. Ba LT be proffesional, are you part of the government intelligence wing? Why are you blocking certain comments.

  30. All you bloggers and your ranting, moarning against Chiluba’s aquital. Well the judgement has been passed and thats it. it is over. Chiluba can now move on after all those years of torture and torment thanks to Levy ( may his souls rest in peace). If Chiluba was guilty why have they failed to bring evidence against him. And how you people have played along with the Post shame. The Post think that they are court and looking at them they prosecuted Chiluba and found him guilt all that remained was to put behind bars shame on the Post. You people ought to see beyond peoples noses, not every article in the Post is gospel truth. Often times they are so subjejective and sometimes they just have scores to settle with certain individuals. We are tired of the Post. But one Membe will also be…

  31. webo ka chibanda ! Uku punama. who has has told you that every youth in the Copperbelt is happy about your President. You are the people super K will call situpiti idyoti. Look at you , utu molu you think Zambians are blind to what the law is messing up? people are dissatisfied with the law custodians and their enforcement behavior, the governance etc. People have the right to air their views and that is what the priest is just doing. He has the guts some of you will never have. You will be puppets for life Shikapwasha , wake up and leave a legacy for your family to look to man! and webo ka chibanda kelele kani ta ukwete ifya kulabila.

  32. Fyonse ‘fi fila nekashya ku mutima; A thieif and his partners messes up millions of Zambians and he later concentrate on one Zambian and wrecks his marriage because the dude’s wife is greed and promiscuous( may he is promiscuous too or they are both messed up couples), the layers who fails to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt but are busy pocketing millions of dollars from government, the president who pretends to up hold the rule of law, ministers who strongly believe that Zambians are naive and because they are piece loving, there is a limit to all things mind you, opposition parties that serve their interest not the peoples’ interests, leaders who do not want to face reality that people are suffering at the hands of foreign investors who no interest for Zambia. Who have…

  33. ctd…come to own Land in Zambia for 99 years lease and Zambians end up owning nothing meaningful, remember Zimbabwe Land Issue, the politicians are breeding a future like Zimbabwe, Zambians see this but politicians are busy making money amassing for a future or rainy day, we know you and history will tell.

  34. Chiluba acquitted after ten years of abusing and defiling the small nation of Zambia in the Sub-Sahara Africa and depleting the national coffers. The facts of the case are that Chiluba and his friends planed a scandalous scheme in which he(chiluba) headed the national of Zambia and skilfully messed up the economy of Zambia by buying himself luxuriant custom made clothing. At one time he attempted to build a college though this- like many allegation against him-was never proven .However, many of his colleagues were found guilty. In passing judgment the judge observed that the layers prosecuting him could not prove their case against him and noted that it will set bad precedent to jail him. This was after a rumor that a siting political leader has similar plans like Chiluba. Ba mukukulu imwe

  35. FR Mwewa is right. Most of us know the pres had something to do with it. Its just plan common sense. Those who think that he is not saying the truth, there must be something wrong you, seriously. Don’t push the Catholic church because you know they’ve got the backing and money to make things happen.

  36. I stand to be corrected is Mwewa the catholic church!!!!! Most certainly not. He is a politician who happens to be a member of the catholic church. If this man has a congregation, I am confident he is not speaking for the members of his church. To put this in context, Mwewa is speaking for himself. It’s like saying I agree with Fred Mmembe that there is indeed anger brewing in the country. There are a few vocal individuals in the country who think their opinion is universally mutual, sorry I disagree. Surely don’t we have Zambians out there who can set up an authentic tabloid to replace this political party news paper. I count among the many Zambians who are gladly welcoming the acquital of this great former president.Levy never fought corruption but Chiluba the same goes 4 Mmembe.

  37. “Our worry is that even young priests are issuing political statements instead of promoting peace and unity in the country. Let them desist from issuing such comments because the judiciary is an independent organ of Government which should be respected,” Mr Chibanda.”
Evil flourish when goodmen do nothing. The priest is a citizen of Zambia and thus entitled to speak out as he wishes. Zambian ministers are spending too much time defending the actions of the president and ignoring their duties. The country has slide into anarchy. What head of state would openly defend evacuation of members of his government to a foreign country for treatment? What is the leadership for? The remarks the president made before and after the verdict, in the Chiluba’s case, betrayed him. Be the judge.

  38. #61 This is a real bitter pill for the Post to swallow, after all that largely factless but emotional campaign against Chiluba. And as usual they are looking for public sympathy. But we now know them very well, egoistic zealots! I actually doubt Chiluba’s innocence but what can we do when the Post tainted its campaign with half truths and downright lies? The Post has reinvented Chiluba in the likeness of an angel, and they want to pass the buck to President Banda. Guys let’s move on, we have better things to attend to. After all, 7 years of embarrassment for any former Head of State is enough punishment.

  39. Zambians are so wedded to politics of lies and deceipt suh that even when judges with clear malicious intent abort the course of justice in order to dance to the whims of pathetic politicians, some sectors of this society term this freedom of the judiciary. One honestly wonders sometimes, if we allow charlatans like Banda and Chinyama to do as they wish, what would remain of institutions of this country in the end. Ours is supposed to be a nation of laws, whence institutions, if we keep on eroding their integrity in the Chiluba Dora fashion, we will sooner than later be Nigerialized. No wonder it was Banda’s maiden destination upon ascending to the presidence. Zambia is doomed. And this thing of Banda speaking Nsenga everywhere, why is he doing this when the official language is English?

  40. Well, if Zambians cannot find justice in their owns courts, they ought to find other sources to find it. The judiciary and entire legal fratenity in Zambia have destroyed this nation, completely. This was all started by Mushota, he made us the most litigative nation in the world where virtually no goods are produced and million millions are paid to talk show fools called lawyers. If there is anything Chiluba’s case has taught me is this, should anyone wrong me, I will fly over their throat! Chiluba stole millions from us and since Banda has decided to turn him into a bedfella, the onus is on Zambians to get even via other means. He did so with Dean, McTribouy, Kaulung’ombe, Ngenda etc. It’s about time he tasted his own bitter medicine.

  41. Usually I do not read article on blogs, however I would like to say that this write-up very compelled me to take a look at and do it! Your writing style has been amazed me. Thanks, quite nice post.

  42. Woah this weblog is great i really like reading your articles. Stay up the great paintings! You already know, many individuals are hunting round for this information, you could help them greatly.
