The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in Mazabuka have arrested a grade Seven pupil from Chivuna basic school for being found in possession of undisclosed kilogrammes of cannabis.

Mazabuka District Commissioner, Tyson Hamaamba confirmed the arrest of the 14 year old school boy to ZANIS in Mazabuka today.

Mr Hamaamba said the boy who is currently in the custody of DEC will soon be handed over to the Social Welfare Department to commence his prosecution.

He explained that the boy was apprehended at Simpile village in Chivuna area after his father who was a prime suspect eluded a team of officers from the Drug Enforcement Commission.

” The father to the boy ran away with three by 25 kilogramme bags of cannabis few hours before DEC officers raided his village, unfortunately he had left another 25 kilogramme bag with his wife who equally ran away forcing the officers to arrest the boy who was found in possession of the illicit drug,” said Hamaamba.

According to the DC, the father to the Juvenile had earlier in the day allegedly sold three by 25 kilogramme bags of cannabis.

He said DEC has since launched a manhunt for the fugitive suspected drug dealer.

Meanwhile authorities in Mazabuka have expressed concern at the alarming proportions of cannabis cultivation in the area.

District Commissioner Tyson Hamaamba said last month alone, 21 people among them women were arrested and sent to prison for trafficking in psychotropic substances.

He said 80 percent of the convicts were women.

Mr Hamaamba has since called on traditional rulers to help government in sensitizing their subjects on the dangers of growing cannabis.

He said cannabis had the potential of undermining the economic development of the country.

  1. Dear Zambia.

Please take note of what goes on around the world.

Lets look to Netherlands first. They make BIG BIG money on the tax collected from the sales, the controlled sales of Cannabis. And we talk about so much money that it would affect the whole country positively.

What people seems to forget, is that Netherlands also makes big bucks on tourism.

Because most educated people like to enjoy their “spliff” without police, possible corrupt police as a threat to their legal status.

There is hardly anyone growing industrial Hemp in Africa.
Mark my words folks… Hemp could make Africa very rich.

That’s why the white man keeps Africa out of it… 🙁

Today Zambia receives funding from US DEA(Drug Enforcement Agency), a dubious organization that brought us the…

  2. This is wrong; They arrested the 14 year old for his fathers sins. Clearly the mbanje belonged to the father who ran. Let the boy free.

  3. why arrest a poor villager who is trying to make ends meet.its better to counsel them and be educated on the dangers of cannabis.why detain a young boy honestly?and how much are those kilograms of cannabis as compared to what FTJ plundered?Zambia is lost

  4. Its because the DEC get money from the DEA and the DEA’s job in Africa is to keep up the steam on bull**** like arresting and prosecuting kids and elders.

The DEA and the rest of the scum just does not want Africa to become a part of the first world.

A good way of doing that is dragging nations like Zambia into a “War” against harmless substances and poor people.

Its crucial for the first world to avoid that Africa starts growing hemp and then becomes self sustained in clothes, fuel and a lot of other materials and foodstuff.

  5. These guys aint serious how do they arrest a minor of possession of drugs that are not his. The Dec guys know for sure that the weed is not for the kid but they still arrest him and want him to be prosecuted. Thast not justice.

  6. Yes # 3 (holahola), I agree with you. We’re lost as a nation. This selective process of justice in Zambia has got to stop bane.

  7. they boy is ok as long as he keeps the rules of the game never get high from ur own supply , if he is making money over it leave the boy alone , go get chiluba and vera they were plundering money together as husband and wife …

  8. 25 Kg cannabis in a village against the undisclosed amount of cocaine found on Miko Chiluba. Leave the little chap alone to concentrate on his education you rotten selective prosecutors!

  9. Alphamale#1 and ,#9Ulufyo I totally agree with yo sentiments….I still shocked with the Chiluba verdict so I am keeping my comments short to avoid imiponto….

  10. This is the US’ doing. They have spread the “war on drugs” around the world as they keep the third world under their boot heel.

  11. I wonder where is coke snorting plunder benefiary Miko chiluba. Let the kid go , just give him some advice and he is still young and willing to change. Arresting a grade 7 pupil will not help anyone , the kid just needs a good session of advice unlike miko chiluba who probably sniffs cocaine like a vacuum.

  12. Wasn’t it traditional in most Zambian ethnic groups for people to smoke chamba? You can still those photos with the old women from Southern province smoking the big pipes. Even our kings used to indulge. For these people smoking is part of their way of life so why should a child be punished for his father breaking laws that were imposed on us by outsiders?

  13. DEC should seriously reconsider their stance. The real culprits are the parents to that boy. DEC the amount of damage and trouma you have already afflicted on that innocent soul will live in him for a good part of his adult life. Surely if you can fail to apprehend a villager what more a sophisticated city drug peddler. I am very disapointed with DEC bec ause their action does not in any way solve the problem. Where are the Human Rights Activits, these are the issues that concern them, let them rise to the occassion.

  14. some chaps have stolen millions zedians people and are still running the show pa zed, a poor familiy trying to fight poverty by selling what your so called GOD put on this earth , get their get butts arrested….
On the 7th day HE said let there be weeeeeeeeeeed

  15. Remember that even if the DEC thinks they work for Zambian National interests… They don’t.

They are financed and working for another foreign power. Against what would benefit the nation and region in a long term.

Yes… Let the DEC chase cocaine and other hard drugs.

But please don’t spread fear and terror upon a population simply practicing their traditions.
