Govt to establish reading and recreation centers

Share

Government has embarked on a programme to establish reading and recreation centers through out the country.

Sports, Youths and Child Development Permanent Secretary Ms. Sikaneta says the creation of these centers is aimed at giving the young people a place where they can play but not tempting.

Ms. Sikaneta says this is important because recreation plays an important role in the development of a child.

She says that government will always endeavor to promote and facilitate the development of recreation centers.

Ms. Sikaneta said this in Lusaka today at the fourth graduation ceremony of 100 children from the Vacation Bible School of the University Of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA).

Meanwhile, Ms. Sikaneta has urged the parents and various stakeholders to nurture children and help them grow in the fear of God.

Ms. Sikaneta said it was important for children to be exposed to sound biblical teaching and give them spiritual direction at an early age as this would make them be responsible children in the future.

“Lets train our children in the love and fear of God, and if we expose them to sound biblical teachings and give them spiritual direction they are bound to grow into responsible citizens and contribute greatly to our country’s development,” she said.

She has since commended the SDA church for training children at a very tender age and called on other churches to emulate the initiative.

And speaking earlier, SDA church Children’s Ministry Coordinator, Naomi Mwanza said it was good for the children to be given early training so that they are not spoiled.

Ms. Mwanza said the church was doing this training in responding to the word of God in Matthews and Proverbs.

She has however said there has been a reduction in the number of children who have graduated as compared to last year.

The children who graduated are from the ages of three and fifteen years.

They have been trained in music, bible instruction bible stories, community service and presentation on the care of environment and entrepreneurship.

  1. This is a good idea as it will help increase the literacy levels in the country including the lost reading culture

  2. Some more empty promises, I hope its not all talk, They failed to maintain what was already built in the copperbelt. We can only wait and see. I hope after they ‘build’ they will be able to maintain them

  3. Those things were there in Kaunda era when in fact it was councils who were running them. But because of undoing all that was Kaundish, FTJ created another ministry (social welfare) when local government could have been more appropriate – through a social welfare department – to address all these things they want to make us think they are new. I remember the days I used to go to Buchi library at Buchi Hall. in those days there were even theatre groups performing in different recreation centres. Various sports including draughts for madalas were encouraged & provided a means of social interaction. Women were being taught making vidobili & how best to cook by “ba Mistrez”. We also used to have pasamulopas and DBP milk on Christmas at those centres but these days it is no longer there

  4. iwe sikaneta, talking too much lately, talk less and repair ma holofair.. whats with you MMD chola boys and girls?

  5. Those were the days; I remember a mobile Library run by the Lusaka City Council (Green in colour) used to come to our Primary School every week. I became fascinated with books through this service. We also used to Parks in residential areas; particularly I remember one in New Kabwata with tukamupelwa and fishelemuko etc! Kafupi came along these Parks were sold as Plots, even if he is not legally a thief, morally he is a thief! Where can we have moral thieves prosecuted?

  6. Great stuff SDA Church as opposed to the churches which are always fighting with GRZ. Indeed you calling is to bring all people to God’s messege and continue in this noble cause.
To the GRZ, the stuff is nothing new for we have Lusumpuko Halls in the might Southern Province where there were functionng libraries and recreation things.
Be blessed dall and take care.

  7. Ba PS, the last time I went reading I went to the LIBRARY. So, just do the right thing, refurbish and build more libraries. # 8, is the Buchi Library still there? I remember using it briefly but I was more into the Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation Library not in some might rural area.

  8. Definitely imagine that which you said. Your favorite justification
appeared to be on the net the simplest factor to take note
of. I say to you, I definitely get irked at the same time as other people
think about issues that they just don’t understand
about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest and also defined out the
whole thing with no need side effect , other people
could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more.
    Thanks
